Varigo headcanons
Hugo mainly shows affection physically because this poor boy is not very good with words. It is easier for him to convey his feelings through a kiss rather than real words.
I can see him as the type who really likes hugs. He would be more than happy wrapped in a big hug that will most likely lift Varian up and spin him.
I think he would especially like the hugs from behind him because 1.) he can rest his head on Varian's or on his shoulder and 2.) it makes him too tempting to tickle him.
Hugo would also be in favor of kisses. Varian could expect everything from soft kisses on the forehead to cheeky kisses on the lips, to completely silly kisses all over his face to more passionate kisses against a wall somewhere out of the way. He is a lovely combination of lovable and dominant that allows his affections to range from cute and innocent to passionate.
I think he would also purposely exaggerate his affection to make Varian blush, like leaning down to kiss her hand, all while he maintains perfect eye contact because this boy knows perfectly how to alter the black-black's senses. There's no time when Hugo isn't flirtatious with Varian, he's just so madly in love with him that it's inevitable.
GOD YESYEYEYEYSYSYS
Hes always flirtatious but its like. Not in a suave kinda cool way and more of an "I'm so in love oh God oh God I have to express it now all the time now now now"
Hell get random bursts of feeling soft for Varian and randomly will get up in the middle of whatever he was doing to track down Variaj and just smother him in kisses and Varian just ends up becoming a giggling affectionate mess.
Your honor they're so in love

Who wants to hear some of my varigo headcanons??? Nobody? Too bad, I wanna talk about them
I know I’ve talked about this one before, but Varian has nightmares from everything that happened during QFaD, and snow makes it worse. So whenever he does have nightmares, Hugo will cuddle with him and help him through panic attacks and anxiety attacks
Hugo doesn’t know how to play chess and when they get to Corona and Varian realizes that hugo doesn’t even know what chess is, he’ll track him how to play and they’ll play it together whenever they get the chance. Hugo loves it, because for him, it’s something that he and Varian do together. It usually ends in tickle fights
Hugo’s super cuddly, especially when he’s tired, so he’s kinda clingy as a result. He’s almost always touching Varian in some way, and he wakes up earlier than Varian sometimes just so he can get extra cuddles
They love baking together. Rapunzel sometimes joins them, and her and Varian were the ones to teach Hugo how to bake
Varian is the one to initiate their first kiss, and it made Hugo cry because it was right after everything with Ulla and he thought he hated him
Hugo is the one to propose first. When he does, Varian just laughs and pulls out a ring
Feel free to add to the list if you want to. I’d love to hear about your guys’ headcanons. Also, check in the notes for some wonderful additions

I have no idea what to call this and its really short so um yes enjoy.
Gonna try to start a new au soon for varigo oop so yay
so enjoy i guess --------------------------- Wind threaded its fingers through his hair as his head sat back in a bed of moss, his eyes staying fixed onto the clouds that drifted and danced across the sky in a little waltz. Little, loose strands of hair drifted over his face, tickling his nose and forehead as he let out a soft sigh at the sensation. He let himself relax in the serenity of the summertime, ignoring the painful sting from under the bandage on his arm.
He wondered how Hugo was.
Hugo. The amazingly stupid man who moved in front of him to take a knife from his own mother. The one who was now asleep in the forest green tent after Nuru had spent the last few hours treating the monstrous wound. The perfect, perfect man who had decided that then was the perfect time to tell him that he loves him and always wanted to be with him.
Varian couldn’t even say he hated the idea either. He knew he cared about Hugo, despite their...less than ideal meeting of the blonde stealing the totem from the fire kingdom. Hugo proved himself to be trustworthy after denouncing his loyalty to Donella in favour of Varian and the others. It was meant to be a sweet moment really - keyword being meant, as four seconds later he was stabbed.
Varian rose to his feet and began to walk towards the tent.
His shaky hands pushed the flaps of the tent open, being greeted by the figure of Hugo, the blonde now sitting up with a soft smile, only broken by a slight wince at the pain in his side. Quietly, Varian rushed over, ushering Hugo back into a position where he was laying down, sighing softly. “No...you need to stay lying down, Hugo. Alright?”
“Are you sure, Goggles?” He chuckled and raised his hand to Varian’s cheek, the ravenette leaning into his touch and closing his eyes with a gentle smile as Hugo tucks one of his loose strands behind his ear. “Also, hey. I’m...sorry about what I said if it put you off.” He frowned as he hesitantly moved his hand away from his cheek, Varian not admitting how much he missed the touch and warmth of the blonde’s hand. “Look I’ll...I can stop coming near you if I make you uncomfortable.”
“Not at all, Hugh. I...I really like you too, Hugo. And...you’re great.” He smiled and leant down to kiss him, Hugo quickly reciprocating. They stayed like that for a while, breaking their abundance of kisses for soft giggles. Their fingers intertwined as Varian lay down beside his boyfriend and cuddled into him, his eyes shutting once again and letting himself sleep contently.

Betrayal
3rd prompt for varigo week is here! @alistairwrites
“Traitor.” Varian growled at the blond in front of him.
Hugo pressed himself against the wall. “Can’t we talk about this?”
“After what you did?” Varian demanded, brandishing his weapon. “I don’t think so.”
Hugo gulped, trying his best to get away but Varian had him cornered. “Goggles, please. I didn’t mean to-”
“Didn’t mean to?” Varian cried out, eyes brimming with anger. “Look me in the eye and tell me you didn’t mean to betray me like that. You were planning it from the start.”
“Varian, please believe me.” Hugo eyes his weapon nervously. “I wasn’t going to do it. She made me. I didn’t have a choice.”
“You always have a choice.” Varian raised his weapon, ready to strike.
“Varian no! I love you, please-”
“If you really loved me you wouldn’t have done what you did.” Varian glared at him, hatred in his eyes. “Now you’re going to pay.”
With that he struck, the pillow hitting it’s mark with a dull thud. Hugo shrieked in surprise and tried to get away but Varian swung the pillow again, tackling Hugo to the ground and continually hit him in the face with the soft cushion.
“How could you!” Varian yelled. “I trusted you!”
Hugo laughed, trying to get Varian off him. “Well that was your fault! First rule of the game is not to trust anyone!”
Varian hit him in the face again, and again, soon joining the blond under him in laughter. “I can’t believe you killed me! After we did all those tasks together!”
Hugo grabbed the pillow and wrestled it out of his boyfriend’s grip. “Hey! You deserved it for voting me out last round!”
Varian managed to pin Hugo’s hands, breathing hard from his laughter. “You owe me.”
Hugo laughed again. “For beating you in a game?”
“For leading me on and betraying me.” Varian grinned. “I expect compensation.”
Hugo snorted. “No way.”
He immediately regretted his words when Varian started to tickle him mercilessly.
“AH! Varian no! Stop!” Hugo laughed, gasping for air. “Babe stop! Okay, okay I give!”
Varian stopped his attack and grinned down at his boyfriend. “Good.”
Hugo sucked in a few lungfuls of air, a few giggles still leaving his lips. “Okay, what do you want from me?”
Varian booped his nose. “You’re going to make me hot chocolate and then we’re watching a movie of my choice.”
Hugo groaned. “Not Over the Hedge again. We watch that all the time.”
Varian narrowed his eyes. “I could just tickle you again.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll watch your stupid movie.”
Varian smiled and pat his cheek. “Thank you very much.”
He let him up and Hugo went to the kitchen to make the drinks. “You’re the worst.”
Varian snorted. “Pfft, says you. Don’t forget why you’re doing this.”
Hugo rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. I’m only doing it because I love you.”
Varian joined him in the kitchen, wrapping his arms around Hugo from behind. “Hmm, I love you too.”
They soon put on the movie and spent the rest of the night cuddling. There may or may not have been another pillow fight.

Serenity of the Dawn

✧ Excerpt from Chapter I: Serenity of the Dawn ✧
✧ Prompt: Sleepy Morning ✧
.
✧ Full chapter is here! ✧
✧ Full fic is here! ✧
.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
He’d whispered so softly that Hugo had just barely managed to catch the words that had escaped his lips. The alchemist had had a strange expression on his face, as he’d stared out at the cerulean surface of the river before them.
What had it been, sadness? Nostalgia, perhaps? Despite his lengthy contemplation, Hugo hadn’t quite been able to decipher what it was.
The lanky blonde slowly made his way towards the water. The serenity of the scene was enough to put him at ease, and he already forgot about the visions that had haunted him less than a quarter of an hour ago.
Hugo closed his eyes, sighing in relief as the brisk wind tickled the back of his neck. He stayed like that for a while, standing on the outskirts of the river, as the stillness of the morning washed over him and cleansed his mind.
It wasn’t until he turned around to start his short trek back to the campsite that he noticed the small lump leaned against a rock not too far away. Hugo squinted, his eyes widening as he realized just what — no, who — he was looking at.
He strolled towards the rock, careful not to make any sudden noises so as not to disturb the form propped up against its hard surface. When he reached it, Hugo glanced down at the younger boy before him.
His sunken eyes were gazing out onto the open water, unwavering even as the blonde sat down next to him.
Whether Varian had known he was there all along or had only just noticed his presence, Hugo didn’t know. The pair sat there in quietude, neither acknowledging the other’s existence as they mutually relished in the tranquility of the dawn.
Finally, after several minutes, it was Varian who broke the silence.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Hugo flinched, momentarily startled by the sound of the alchemist’s voice. Then, a pause. Varian spoke again.
“Hugo…what are you doing out here?”

Tickletober Prompt: Wake Up! + Pinned + Flustered
((Ler!Hugo & Lee!Varian. NSFW DNI))
Hugo gulped down his third cup of coffee and wiped his mouth. It was his and Varian’s anniversary and he wanted to make sure it was perfect.
Hence the reason he was up at the ass crack of dawn to make his beloved boyfriend breakfast. He had the table set with lit candles and a few wildflowers that matched Varian’s eyes. Careful not to spill a crumb, Hugo carried the tray of Varian’s favorite breakfast dishes to the table and stepped back to admire the set up. He knew his boyfriend would love it. Now, he had to face the challenge of waking said the boyfriend up.
Padding softly back into the bedroom Hugo smiled softly. Varian looked so comfy and relaxed in his sleeping state. He almost hated to disturb him. Almost hated.
Hugo grinned brightly and launched himself onto the bed and Varian who grunted sleepily, startled awake by the sudden weight.
“Morning Sunshine! Rise and shine!”
Varian groaned and tried to push Hugo to the side.
“Oomph, ‘Ugo what are you doing? And how much coffee have you had? I can smell it on your breath.” Varian mumbled, snuggling further under the covers.
“Go away, I’m sleeping in today.” The alchemist added, closing his eyes and trying to get back to sleep. Hugo pouted and thought.
“But babyyyy! It’s our anniversary! And I made you breakfast!” He pleaded giving his best puppy eyes. Varian huffed although he briefly considered getting up for breakfast.
“Then keep it warm for me. I’m sure it’s delicious.” He said, opting instead to roll onto his side so his back was to Hugo.
Groaning, the lanky blonde flopped back dramatically, once again squashing Varian beneath him.
“Oi! Get off you ass!” Varian complained before just giving up. Hugo wasn’t all that heavy anyway.
“Sorry, what did you just call me?” Hugo asked prodding lightly at Varian’s side, making him flinch.
“You heard me, now off!” Hugo smirked and did the exact opposite and maneuvered so he was pinning Varian down on his back.
“I don’t think you are in any position to be making demands, darling.” Hugo teased, holding Varian’s wrists beneath his knees. Varian glared up at him, clearly irked at being woken up.
“Whatever you think you’re doing, don’t. I’m warning you, I am not a morning person. Haven’t you figured that out by now?” Hugo snickered.
“‘Course I have. Why do you think this is how I’m waking you up? It’s always better to start the day with laughter.” He grinned as the realization dawned on his boyfriends face.
“Hugo. Don’t you- DARE!” Varian shrieked when Hugo latched onto his sides and dug in gently. Not enough to properly tickle, but it was enough to make Varian jumpy.
“Don’t I dare what, Stripes?” Hugo asked, batting his eyes innocently.
“Tickle me, you dummy!”
Hugo’s smile grew.
“Tickle you? No problem!” Varian let out a squeal and burst into bright giggles as Hugo attacked him with tickles.
“Nohohoho that’s not whahahahat I meant!”
“Mmmmh I dunno. It’s what I heard.” Hugo responded, switching to Varian’s tummy and poking mercilessly.
“Poke. Poke. Poke.” Hugo teased with each poke, making Varian turn bright red.
“Quihihit teasing!” Giggled the smaller boy, squirming madly. Hugo smirked.
“Nah, it’s fun.” He said before switching tactics and spidering along Varian’s lower tummy sending him into fits of squeals.
“Stohohohop! Hugooooo!” Varian whined through his giggles, although his escape attempts had lessened quite a bit. He really was starting to regret sleeping shirtless.
“Okay, no spiders got it. What about….. this!” Hugo declared scribbling quickly. Varian howled and shook his head wildly.
“Nohohohoho!”
“Alright fine! You decide then!” Hugo sat back, drumming his fingers lightly on Varian’s stomach. Varian felt his face heat up. Hugo’s teases always got to him and the bastard knew it! He was grinning down at him mischievously.
“Babe! You know I can’t chohoohoose!” Varian groaned, pouting at his mean boyfriend. Hugo sighed dramatically.
“Well, I have no other options here!” Technically that wasn’t true. Hugo had many ways of wrecking Varian senseless, but he loved teasing him.
Varian didn’t answer, too busy trying to melt into the mattress. He’d thought of one way Hugo had absolutely destroyed him, but he sure as hell wasn’t about to say it.
Luckily, he didn’t have to. Hugo had miraculously figured it out himself.
“Ooooh wait a minute! I remember now!” He grinned evilly at Varian as he lowered his head.
“Hope you’re ready for some good old raspberries!” Varian halfheartedly protested, but it was quickly swallowed by his laughter as Hugo blew raspberry after raspberry onto his belly and navel.
“HUHUHUHUGOHOHOHO! NAHAHAHAHAHA!” Hugo grinned against his boyfriends tummy.
“Hon, you know you love this.” He teased, speaking right against Varian’s navel making him squeal.
“IHHIHIHIT TIHIHIHICKLES!”
“Hmmm…. Yes that’s the point, dear.” Hugo said continuing his raspberry attack.
“SHUHUHUT UHUHUHUP!”
With one more wild buck, Varian cackled, letting himself laugh until his stomach cramped. He was laughing so loudly that he didn’t even register the dull thunk and startled curse from Hugo hitting the floor. It took Varian a moment to process that the raspberries had abruptly stopped. As well as the weight pinning him down. He couldn’t help feeling a tad disappointed.
Sucking in oxygen he looked around the room until he spotted Hugo on the floor, rubbing his elbow looking slightly stunned and pouting up at him like a confused puppy.
“Shit! Babe I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” Varian scrambled out of bed and knelt to check on his boyfriend.
“Damn, Goggles. I keep forgetting how strong you are!” Hugo said, chuckling. Once Varian was certain Hugo was okay, he swatted him gently.
“That’s what you get for waking me up!” He said, but he didn’t really mean it. Hugo snorted softly.
“Oh please. Like I don’t know you enjoyed every second of that.” He smirked as Varian turned scarlet.
“I-you- oh be quiet, asshole!” Varian stammered shoving Hugo playfully and making a run for it downstairs before Hugo had a chance to process the name calling. He knew Hugo was going to wreck him again for it, but for now he would settle for enjoying the breakfast his loving boyfriend had made him.

TickleTober Prompt: Tickle Fight + Counting + Weak Spot
((Switch!Varian & Switch!Hugo. NSFW DNI))
Hugo wandered down to the kitchens after a morning of hard work in the labs to get something for lunch.
Varian was in a meeting with Rapunzel discussing new ways to upgrade the security around the kingdom, but he said he would try to join Hugo for lunch. For now, Hugo found himself alone in the expansive kitchens, save for a couple cooks wandering.
Shrugging, the ex-con popped open the fridge hoping to find some food. Sure enough, he found something— one single ham sandwich to be exact. He knew his boyfriend was probably planning on having it himself, but hey- finders keepers, right?
Just as Hugo had taken the plate out and settled down to eat, Varian entered the kitchen and caught him red handed. Hugo stared at him, mouth wide open mid-bite. Varian stared back, an irritated gleam in his eyes.
“Hugo. Is that mine?” The short alchemist asked, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow. Hugo placed the meal back on the plate and stood.
“Hey, you left it there with no note. I was here first, so it’s mine.”
“Is not! I made it for myself! Now give it here!” Varian demanded, holding out a hand.
“Nuh-uh! Finders keepers! You’ll have to fight me for it.” Hugo said, mimicking Varian’s previous pose.
Varian’s glare shifted into something else. Something more mischievous and cunning.
“Fine then. I’ll fight you for it.” He said, calmly approaching Hugo and backing him against the table. Hugo gulped nervously, looking around for an escape. Varian smirked at him.
“Why so nervous? You did challenge me to a fight and I never back down from a challenge, hunny.” Varian said, poking Hugo’s sides, causing him to flinch and suck in a breath.
“W-wahait, wait! Come on! Let’s talk about thihihihis!” Hugo crumpled to the ground in fits of giggles as Varian continued poking him all the way down.
“Sorry, gonna have to fight your way out of this.” Teased Varian, spidering his fingers along Hugo’s ribs, smirking as another idea came to him.
“Say, Hugo. How many ribs do you have?”
“Twehehelve! Twelve pairs!” Hugo giggled, trying to capture Varian’s wrists to no avail. Varian hummed like he was unconvinced.
“I dunno. I think I should count them just to be sure.”
Hugo squealed and wriggled around as Varian began counting.
“1, 2, 3~ Hugo, quit squirming so much, I lost count! Now I have to start all over!” Varian groaned, feigning frustration.
“Nohohoho! D-Dohohon’t start over!” Hugo pleaded through giggles, kicking lightly at the floor. Varian smirked at him and began counting again, going extra slow.
Hugo writhed and giggled hysterically, trying to bat Varian’s hands away.
“S-sohohohmewhere ehehehehelse! Plehehehease!” Hugo cackled when the rib tasers became almost unbearable. To his surprise Varian listened.
“Alright, how about your thighs then? Or perhaps some neck raspberries? I know you love that.” Varian teased, grinning when Hugo flushed crimson.
“N-no! Not that!” Hugo cried, a wobbly smile spreading on his face.
“You’re right! Both at once does sound amazing!” Varian declared, ignoring Hugo’s pleas before leaning down and blowing raspberries on Hugo’s neck while simultaneously reaching back and squeezing his thighs.
Hugo shrieked instantly starting to laugh loudly and brightly. Both of his worst spots being attacked at once was almost unbearable. Almost.
He was losing the strength to push Varian away, but then he remembered- this was supposed to be a fight. There was no reason why he shouldn’t fight back.
With that thought in mind, Hugo reached out his hand even though it left his entire right side exposed, which was a risk. Varian had briefly paused his raspberries, curious to what Hugo was doing. Through laughter, the blonde flashed Varian a smirk.
“Lehet’s see how you like it, Stripes.” He quickly turned the tables and grabbed his boyfriends side and squeezed, sending him toppling off him with a squeal.
With a triumphant cackle, Hugo climbed on top of Varian and straddled his hips.
“Wahahait! Hugo don’t! I’m way more ticklish than you!” Varian cried out, already giggling with anticipation.
Hugo laughed and rested his hands on his lovers sides.
“But this is a fight, so I’m fighting back now.” He declared before attacking Varian’s sides with scribbles, pokes, and squeezes. His heart melted at the bright giggles and snorts Varian was letting out.
“Huhuhuhugooooo! Quihuihuit!” Varian giggled, shoving weakly at Hugo’s hands, shrieking when Hugo rolled up his shirt. That only meant one thing.
Hugo smirked at him as he lowered his head.
“You attacked my worst spots, love. It’s only fair that I do the same thing to you.” He said before blowing raspberries on Varian’s tummy, earning some bright cackles and squeals.
“NAHAHAHAHAT FAHAHAHAHAIR!” Argued Varian through his laughter, trying to shove Hugo’s head away, which only resulted in Hugo’s hair adding to the already ticklish sensations.
“Uh, it’s totally fair!” Hugo replied.
“If I was being unfair, I would do this!” He declared, quickly scribbling his fingers up Varian’s sides and to his armpits while continuing the raspberries on his tummy.
Varian howled with laughter, squirming violently. Both of his weak spots were under attack and suddenly he knew what Hugo had meant.
“STOOOOAHAHAHAP!” Shrieked Varian, desperately trying to escape.
As a last resort he stretched out his hand and prodded clumsily at Hugo’s ribs again. It did the trick and sent the blonde rolling right off him. Varian smirked and scrambled up, planning to wreck Hugo some more when the lanky male held a hand up to stop him.
“Truce! Truhuce! Please, I think I’ll actually faint if you tickle me anymore!” Hugo said, catching his breath. Varian lowered his hands suspiciously, relaxing when Hugo stayed where he was.
“Okay, truce. You alright?” Hugo nodded and grinned at him sheepishly.
“When I challenged you to a fight, I was not expecting a tickle fight.” He confessed, rubbing his aching sides. Varian laughed and shook his head.
“We didn’t even declare a victor! Who gets the sandwich?” He asked, tilting his head.
Standing, Hugo took Varian’s hand to help him up.
“How about we split it and go halvsies on it?” He suggested. Varian smiled and kissed him.
“Perfect. I’ll get a knife.” Varian opened the cutlery drawer while Hugo noticed something.
“Hey, Goggles.” He tugged Varian’s sleeve gently to get his attention.
Varian turned back to face Hugo.
“What is it, babe?”
Hugo pointed to the table. Where Ruddiger, Varian’s raccoon was perched, his cheeks stuffed with ham sandwich. The critter was about to shove the last bite in his mouth when he noticed the boys glaring at him. He dove off the table and stuffed it in as Hugo lunged at him.
Varian saw it coming and quickly gripped Hugo’s sides making him yelp and fold in on himself.
“Bahabe! We had a truce!” He whined, clutching his sides protectively. Varian chuckled and pecked his lips.
“I know, but I didn’t want you to murder Ruddiger over a sandwich. I’ll make another one and we can share that one.” Hugo smiled.
“Okay deal. Just no more sneak attacks!” Laughing, Varian made a fresh ham sandwich and the two of them shared a nice lunch break. They may or may not have had another tickle fight as well.

TickleTober Prompt: New Discovery + Accidental
((Ler!Varian Lee!Hugo. This is a tickle fic! If that’s not your jam, then don’t read!))
It had all started as an accident. Varian squeezing Hugo’s knee under the table at a dinner with the royal family in hopes to reassure his boyfriend, causing him to jerk his leg violently and smother a snort with a cough into his napkin and hoping no one noticed his reaction. When Varian asked him about it later, he’d claimed it had startled him and nothing more. Hugo had thought and hoped that would be the end of it.
The next incident had been in the lab. The two young men were working on a new upgrade to Varian’s hot water machines when Hugo decided to mess with Varian and steal his goggles off the top of his head. He had planned on dangling them just out of his shorter boyfriends grasp, while teasing him about his height as he was so prone to doing. What Hugo hadn’t planned on was Varian losing his balance when he tried to snatch the goggles back and falling forward into Hugo, grabbing a fistful of Hugo’s shirt as well as his stomach making the taller yelp in ticklish alarm.
“Babe, what was that?” Varian had asked Hugo, raising an eyebrow and taking his goggles back.
“It was nothing, hunny. I just got surprised when you fell, that’s all.” Hugo replied, praying to the Sun that Varian hadn’t taken notice of the blush that was creeping up his neck and onto his face and ears. Varian made a noise of disbelief, but didn’t ask any further questions—mainly because the chemical they had been testing was starting to bubble up out of the beaker and was moments away from an explosion.
Now they were in bed (not like that ya nasties XD) and Varian was running his fingers through Hugo’s hair. Both of them were prone to nightmares, but lately Hugo’s had been worse, but there was something about the feeling of Varian’s arms around him while he ran his fingers through his hair and massaged his scalp that always comforted and relaxed the blonde, making him feel so safe and loved. Just as Hugo was about to drift off to sleep again, Varian’s hand brushed a bit too close to his neck and he flinched, suddenly wide awake. He heard Varian let out a startled noise, probably since Hugo had nearly head butted him in the nose.
“Hugo, what is up? It seems like every time I touch you, you get all jumpy. Are you okay?” Varian asked, his baby blue eyes filled with concern and confusion.
“If I’m hurting you or making you uncomfortable, just tell me, Hugh.”
Hugo looked into Varian’s eyes and sighed. He hadn’t meant to worry his boyfriend. He just- didn’t want him finding out he was ticklish. Not when he had been the victor of all their tickle fights. But he supposed the only way to keep Varian from worrying was to come clean and tell him the truth.
“No, no, Bluebird you aren’t hurting me, I’m fine. I’m just-“ Here, Hugo paused and cleared his throat nervously, though he wasn’t exactly sure why he was nervous.
“I’m ticklish.” He mumbled quietly, hiding his face in Varian’s chest.
“Huh? What was that, baby? I couldn’t hear you.” Varian said.
Truthfully, he had totally heard Hugo. But he wanted to get some payback for all the times Hugo had wrecked him.
Hugo whined into Varian’s chest and flashed him a pout.
“I’m fucking ticklish, Hairstripe!” He repeated and then immediately regretted it when he saw the downright evil gleam in Varian’s eyes.
“Oh? Is that so?” The Royal engineer purred, effortlessly flipping over so he was on top of Hugo, a wild, malicious grin on his face. Sometimes Hugo forgot how strong his boyfriend was. Hugo gulped a nervous, giddy energy building inside him. But at the same time, he was also kind of excited. It had been a long time since some one had tickled him properly and he had almost forgotten how it felt.
“Y-yeah, a little.” He squeaked out, his heart racing. Varian smirked down at him.
“Only a little?” Oh, the little bastard was teasing him! Was this how Varian felt in the moments before Hugo wrecked his shit? Hugo found himself nodding. Varian let out a thoughtful hum.
“I think I’ll be the judge of that.” He said decisively, before starting to poke along Hugo’s torso, aiming for his ribs first. Almost instantly, the blonde began to snicker and brought his hand up to cover his mouth.
“Ah, none of that. I wanna see you smile.” Varian said, quickly grabbing Hugo’s hands and pinning them under his knees.
Hugo burst into bright giggles when Varian started spidering his fingers across his sides, lifting his shirt up and scribbling his fingers along Hugo’s stomach, even being bold enough to give him a few small raspberries there as well.
“G-gohohohoggles!” He whined through his giggles, thumping his feet against the mattress.
“Hm?” Varian hummed, glancing up at Hugo to make sure he was okay with this. What he saw made his heart melt. Hugo had a huge smile on his face and he was giggling his head off. He didn’t look uncomfortable, but joyful. It was an absolutely beautiful sight.
“Seems to me like you’re more than a little ticklish, Hugo. You know what that means, don’t you?” Varian asked, smirking. Hugo giggled and tilted his head.
“W-whahahat?” He asked through his chuckles, noticing Varian had stopped tickling him. He blushed when Varian leaned down so their noses brushed.
“It means you lied to me, Hugo. And liars need to be punished.” Hugo’s eyes widen and he tried to stutter out an apology.
“W-wait! What are you going to do?” He asked. Though he knew Varian would never hurt him, whatever he had planned was probably gonna tickle like hell. Varian grinned at him.
“Liars get neck raspberries.” He said, leaning down quickly and blowing raspberries onto Hugo’s neck. The blonde screeched, arching his back and trying to scrunch his shoulders up. Varian pulled away briefly, laughing.
“Did I find a bad spot then?” He asked, amused at his boyfriend’s reaction.
Blushing, Hugo nodded.
Smirking, Varian leaned down and blew more raspberries against Hugo neck, eliciting loud peals of laughter and shrieks.
“VAHAHAHARIAN PLEHEAHEAHEAHEASE!” Hugo cackled, his head tossed back in hysterical delight.
“Please what, Hugh? Please continue? I’d be happy to!” Varian chirped continuing his raspberry assault.
Squealing at this point, Hugo lost himself to his giggles, quickly learning he really couldn’t fight back. After all, Varian had his face buried into the side of his neck and didn’t seem to have any plans to remove it.
The raspberries switched to nibbles and that’s when Hugo’s laughter turned silent. It was the most horrendously ticklish sensation he had felt and he was torn between begging for mercy and never wanting it to end.
Varian pulled his face away from Hugo’s neck, giving him a much needed breather. While his boyfriend sucked in lungfuls of air between giggles, Varian admired how beautiful Hugo looked all giggly and breathless.
“Ahahahare you dohohone?” Hugo asked through residual giggles, his green eyes shining with mirthful tears. Varian smiled.
“Almost, I just wanna try one last thing.” Before Hugo could even ask what, two hands latched onto his thighs and squeezed. And Hugo. Fucking. Snorted.
“Ohoho my god! That was so cute!” Varian gushed, while Hugo turned scarlet.
“Shut up, like you’re any be- BeHEHEHETTER!” Hugo’s reply was instantly dissolved into cackles and snorts when Varian started rapidly squeezing his thighs.
“MERHERHERHERHERCY!! MERHERHERCY, PLEHEHEHEHASE!” Hugo shrieked out after a few more moments of thigh squeezes, during which Varian found a horridly sensitive spot where his thigh met his knee. Lucky for him, Varian stopped immediately quickly noticing Hugo was at his limit and didn’t want to push things.
Hugo sprawled out on the bed sucking in oxygen and twitching occasionally from phantom tingles. Varian reached over and started running his fingers through Hugo’s hair again letting him catch his breath.
“Sorry if I took that too far, baby. I just love hearing you laugh.” He apologized pressing a sweet kiss to Hugo’s temple. His boyfriend gave him a blissful smile.
“Oh I’m okay, Stripes. It wasn’t that bad actually.” He blushed smiling shyly.
“I had fun. I haven’t laughed like that in a long time.” He added, with a sheepish little giggle.
Varian smirked and hummed mischievously.
“I’ll have to remember that then.” He teased, planting a few gentle kisses to Hugo’s cheeks and face, before giving him a peck on the lips. Hugo beamed at all the love and attention.
“Yeah, but expect revenge. I can’t have you beating me at my own game.” He warned, skittering his fingers across Varian’s tummy, making him yelp and squirm back with a squeal.
“Youhohou ahahass!” Varian giggled, before moving back over and yawning cuddling close to Hugo who chuckled fondly.
“Watch your back tomorrow morning.” He teased, before feeling himself growing sleepy as well.
Varian just snored in response, already fast asleep.
Hugo drifted off with plans for revenge and plans to provoke Varian into tickling him more often filling his dreams.
A/N: Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of tickletober stuff! I honestly thought I’d get more out, but then I got COVID and was pretty out of it from the steroids my doctor gave me, so I didn’t feel much like writing. I was planning on waiting until the 21st to post this, but then I got excited and couldn’t wait lol. Also, Idk if anyone else is obsessed with Varigo like me, but I hope you all enjoyed this. (And I definitely plan on posting more tkl content for this ship! I love it so much 🥰 pls talk to me about my boys, I will not shut up!)

Tickletober Prompt: Ticklish Kiss + Nibbles/Bites + Arms Up
((Ler!Hugo and Lee!Varian! SFW only!))
Hugo adored Varian’s freckles and scars. They made his boyfriend absolutely beautiful and unique. So naturally, he loved smothering every inch of Varian’s body with kisses. The only thing that made it even better was that Varian was so, ridiculously ticklish and kisses in certain spots sent the younger boy into fits of giggles. It was honestly one of Hugo’s favorite pastimes, being able to turn his adorable boyfriend into a puddle of giggles and squeals. He decided he’d have to do that again as soon as possible.
˗ˏˋ꒰𖦹。🧪⋆°✰꒱ ˎˊ˗
The happy couple was cuddling in bed and Varian had been telling him about the scars on his stomach and ribs from when he’d been held hostage and attacked by Cassandra. Hugo listened willingly, knowing it wasn’t always easy for Varian to talk about traumatic events in his past.
“I just think they aren’t all that pretty.” Varian said, shrugging. Hugo gaped at him.
“Nonsense! I’m sure they are gorgeous!” Varian snorted and lifted his shirt to show Hugo.
“You sure about that, hun?” Gazing at the expanse of tan, freckled skin Hugo ran his fingers across the long, jagged scars that crisscrossed Varian’s tummy.
“You are so fucking beautiful, Freckles.” Hugo murmured before taking notice of Varian’s quivering tummy at the light touches. He smirked at the boy.
“Ticklish, goggles?” Varian bopped him lightly on the head.
“Y-you know I am, doofus!” The alchemist replied, choking back giggles. Hugo smirked, getting an idea.
“Say your scars are pretty, Varian.”
“No, why should I?” Hugo grinned and planted a kiss on one of the scars, just to the left of Varian’s bellybutton making him squeak and flinch.
“Because I’m not gonna stop kissing your tummy until you do.”
Before Varian had a chance to protest (though he wouldn’t have meant it anyway) Hugo had pinned his arms above his head and began smooching every inch of his twitching belly. He instantly burst into giggles and squeaks.
“H-Huhuhuhugooooo, dohohohon’t!” The smaller male giggled, halfheartedly wriggling around. Hugo paused briefly and grinned slyly at him.
“What’s the magic words, Bluebird?”
“F-fuhuhuhuck ohohoff!” Hugo gasped and feigned offense.
“Such profanity! I think I should punish you for using such foul language.” With that, Hugo switched from kisses to nibbles and raspberries, which turned Varian’s adorable giggles to full blown belly laughter.
“NOHOHOHOHO WAHAHAHAHAIT IHIHIHIHI’M SOHOHORY!”
Hugo grinned.
“That’s sweet, but not the words I wanna hear.” Teased Hugo, absolutely delighting in Varian shrieks of beautiful laughter.
Switching back to the kisses, he continued making his boyfriend giggle and squirm.
“Go on, say it.” Hugo sang, sneakily blowing a quick raspberry on Varian’s bellybutton making him squeal and buck wildly.
“Huhuhugohoho!”
“Yes, dearest? You know I could do this all day, and I bet you would enjoy it.” Hugo smirked watching Varian’s face turn red at the teasing.
“Plehehehehease!”
“Please what? Go back to nibbling this adorable tum of yours? Sure thing!” Varian cackled brightly as Hugo began nibbling his tummy again.
“Nohohohohot th-thahahahahahat!” Giggled the alchemist trying to tug his arms free.
“Not that? Raspberries it is then!” Chirped Hugo, releasing an endless stream of raspberries on Varian’s tummy, covering every inch of it with ticklish vibrations.
Varian howled, tossing his head back and letting the laughter come.
“HUHUHUHUHUGOOOOOO! STOOOHAHAHAHAHAP!” Shrieked Varian, wriggling like a worm on a hook. Hugo grinned.
“Didn’t hear you say anything!” The blonde teased switching sporadically between kisses, nibbles, and raspberry attacks, always keeping Varian guessing as to what ticklish onslaught would come next.
“OHOHOHOHOKAHAHAY OKAHAHAHAY! I’LL SAYHAYAHAY IHIHIT!” Varian cackled out when Hugo blew a particularly evil set of raspberries directly onto his bellybutton. Hugo grinned up at him and stopped the raspberries but began softly smooching again, keeping his boyfriend giggling enough not to have second thoughts.
“Well, let’s hear it. Don’t make me start nibbling again.” He warned between kisses, planting one just above his navel.
“Hehehe, m-mhyhyhyhy scars ahahahare p-prehehehetty.” Varian giggled out.
“Yes. They. Are.” Hugo confirmed kissing a scar to punctuate each word, Varian squeaking and giggling all the while. Then just for good measure and because it was fun, he startled Varian with one last giant raspberry making him shriek out loudly.
Chuckling, Hugo released Varian’s wrists and pressed a kiss to his still giggling lips.
“No more of that self-deprivation talk, or else.” Hugo warned, playfully wiggling his fingers at Varian who curled up and wrapped his arms around his stomach.
“Nohoho, no more please.” Begged the small alchemist, making Hugo chuckle fondly and give him a sweet forehead kiss.
“Hey now, I’m not that mean, am I?” He asked, jokingly, laughing when Varian flashed him a soft pout.
“You’re a bully, Hugo.”
“Oh, changed your mind about round two?”
“Don’t you dare!”
Giggling, Hugo pulled Varian into his arms and kissed the pout away. Varian smiled and leaned his head on Hugo’s shoulder.
“I love you, doofus.”
“I love you too, Bluebird.”

No one ever writes tkl content for them, so I have taken it upon myself to write the content I wanna see! I know is said I’d write for other fandoms, but this ship has me in a chokehold! Hopefully soon I can show off my other fandoms, but as of right now, it’s all the Varigo!

We got some more Varigo stuff
There was something about watching Varian's dynamic with his friends that made Hugo feel... well something. He didn't really know what it was.
Whenever he saw them messing around and being a family, he couldn't help but feel like he was intruding on it. Despite how many times Varian and everyone else told him that they loved having him in Corona, something deep inside just didn't believe it.
Of course, he loved Varian with everything he had. The younger alchemist had invited him into his home despite everything Hugo had done. The mistakes he made, the betrayal. Despite everything Varian still wanted him. That was the only reason he was still here, and also probably the reason he felt the way he did.
These were Varian's friends, not his. This was Varian's family, not his. The only family Hugo ever had was locked up in the dungeon for trying to kill everyone. The old Hugo wouldn't have cared. Heck, the old Hugo wouldn't have even bothered to stay, but that wasn't him anymore. Not since Varian crawled into his life and pulled him out of a life of thievery and a questionable mother/son relationship.
This was how he found himself, sitting in the garden, lost in these thoughts. Don't get him wrong. He was grateful for Varian. As a matter of fact, Varian was the best thing that'd ever happened to him. So... why did he still feel this way?
He was so completely lost in his own mind he didn't even hear someone walking towards him until they wrapped their arms around him from behind. He didn't even need to see to know that it was Varian.
"Hey Hairstripe." Hugo smiled, masking his worry and thoughts with the most nonchalant tone he could conjure.
"Hey Glasses." Varian countered Hugo's nickname with one of his own. He pressed a small kiss to the back of his neck before resting his chin on Hugo's shoulder. "What are you up to?"
"Thinking."
"That's dangerous."
"Haha, very funny." Hugo let some annoyance of the situation slip into his voice but not enough for Varian to worry. He turned his head to kiss Varian's cheek.
Varian scrunched up his face in a very cute way at the contact. "Ew, affection."
Hugo smiled mischievously. "Oh, you want affection? I'll give you affection."
He suddenly pulled Varian onto his lap and started to kiss every inch of his face. Varian laughed at the tickling kisses and lightly tried to push him away. Hugo held on to his boyfrend tightly. When he did finally stop, Varian was a giggling mess. His face was red and his eyes sparkled with joy. Hugo stared into the beautiful blues, a smile on his face. Oh god, he loved this boy. After a moment of them staring at each other, smiles still ever present, Hugo pulled Varian in for a real kiss.
Varian hummed sweetly at it and tangled his fingers into Hugo's ponytail. Hugo, in turn, wrapped his arms a little bit tighter around Varian. When they broke the kiss they leaned their foreheads together, both still smiling.
"I love you." Hugo whispered and placed another small kiss on his other half's lips.
Varian smiled even brighter and leaned up to place a kiss on Hugo's cheek. "I love you too."
After holding each other for another while longer, Hugo allowed Varian to get up. Once he did Varian helped him off the bench.
"You know, Raps asked me to come get you for something but I honestly forgot what it was."
Hugo laughed and intwined their fingers together. "Let's go find out what she wanted."
Varian smiled at him. "Sounds like a plan."
-------
When they got inside Rapunzel looked like she was about to burst with news. Her smile was so bright it could've countered the sun.
"Okay, now that everyone is here it's finally time." She smiled at Eugene and held his hand. "Eugene and I are expecting a baby."
There was silence in the room for exactly 0.5 seconds before the little mismatched family exploded with excitement. Varian was the first to run up and hug them both.
"Oh my god, that's great!" He laughed. Soon all three were almost plowed over by the Shnitz's.
"Im gonna be an uncle!" Lance shouted excitedly.
Angry and Catalina were both smiling. "And we'll finally not be the youngest in the group anymore!"
Eugene caught Hugo's eye. The blond alchemist was standing a few paces away from the group hug. He offered the teen a smile and Hugo half-heartedly returned it.
When they broke free from the group hug, Eugene whispered something to Varian who looked at Hugo and frowned.
Varian walked over to him, grabbing hold of the blond's arm and pulling him out of the room.
He stopped in a dimly lit hallway and turned to face his boyfriend.
"What's bothering you?"
Hugo was caught off-guard by the question. "W-what?"
"Stop. I know that face. What's wrong?"
Hugo sighed and looked away, rubbing his arm awkwardly. "It's alot to explain..."
Varian crossed his arms. "I've got time."
Hugo gave him a look. "No you don't. You and I both know you have a job to do."
"I'll make time. I can afford to be a little late if it's for you."
Those words made Hugo's heart warm. Nobody had ever bothered to give up their time for him before. Not even Donella.
He sighed. "I guess I just feel... like I don't belong here."
Varian's eyes widened and he caught the tiniest hint of fear in them.
"It's not you or anything you did!" He reassured him quickly. "It's just, I see you and you have this awesome family who loves you and I feel like I'm intruding on that. I mean, after everything I've done, how can they... how can you just accept me? Want me?" His voice got quieter. "Love me?"
Varian dropped his arms from their crossed position in surprise. "Hugo..."
Hugo took a deep breath and wiped away a tear he hadn't even known was there. He gave Varian a none-too‐convincing smile. "Just forget it. I-"
Varian suddenly grabbed the sides of his face and pulled him into a passionate kiss. It was unlike any they'd ever shared before and when Varian pulled away, Hugo was left a little bit speechless.
Varian rested his forehead against Hugo's as he gently brushed his thumb over the blond's cheek.
"I love you." Varian whispered. He was still so close, his lips brushing against Hugo's and his warm breath fanning across his face with every word. "I love you so much. I don't care about what you did. I've already forgiven you. Hugo, I love you."
Hugo quickly wrapped his arms around Varian's waist, pulling him closer and kissing him again. Varian grunted in surprise but quickly got over it and wrapped his arms around Hugo's neck, greatly returning it.
Hugo backed Varian against the wall and Varian laughed against his lips.
"Babe, wait." Despite his words Varian kept returning to his lips. "Hang on,"
He broke the kiss for real, leaning against the wall, laughing. "I know my family and they're going to be looking for us. We can do this later."
Hugo smiled but nodded. He placed a sweet and gentle kiss on his lips before releasing his hold on his partner.
"Okay, but I think we should talk some more about this later." He gave Varian a look. The younger knew exactly what he meant.
"Mmm," he pretended to think about it. "Maybe."
Hugo laughed as Varian pushed him away so he could get off the wall. They walked back down the hall hand in hand.
"Hey, we should give Eugene and Rapunzel really bad baby name ideas."
"Like what?"
"I don't know... Gladyss?"
Laughter filled the hall as they walked back to their group of friends.

Sweet As Sugar, Right As Rain
Chapter 3 of the Varigo Coffee Shop AU! Yay! Thanks so much for all the support I’ve been receiving on this fic, I’ve enjoyed writing it so so much! It’s just been amazing (considering this is my first time EVER writing a fic so aha, I really appreciate the support!) Enjoy! <3
Word Count : 3809
TW - Strong Language
---------------------------------------
Sunlight beamed through the windows, the rays penetrating the temporary shield of his curtains and straight into his eyes. Hugo let out a loud groan and raised his arm to shield his eyes from the blinding light, however his attempts were futile. He resorted to pulling the emerald sheets over his head with a groan. Birds outside had other plans however, singing and tweeting right outside his goddamn window to ensure he couldn’t go back to sleep. Hugo shoved the sheets back in frustration, kicking them off him and letting them fall into a bundle on the floor. “Note to self. Buy some shutters.” he muttered, propping himself up on his elbows and reaching out for his glasses on the bedside table.
As everything came into focus, he took a second to look into the mirror. “Holy fucking shit.” he complained. Blonde locks jutted out in every direction imaginable, sticking up unnaturally. “Okay then. Shower time.” he said to no one in particular, shuffling off his bed as it made a painfully loud creak once his weight left it. Squeaking and shuffling sounded from the cage across his room, catching his attention, and he glanced over. A smile quickly took over his face.
“Olivia! Hey there girl.” he jogged over, sitting at his desk and opening the top drawer of his desk to take out a packet of sunflower seeds. He tipped a few out of the packet, examining them in his hand before placing them in the cage in front of her. She inhaled the seeds, chittering and scurrying around in the cage happily after her breakfast with an energy unlike any other he’d seen before.
“Yeah, yeah. I get it. You’re excited. But I’ve gotta go get ready, sweetheart.” he muttered, moving to stand. He gave in to his urges at her pouty face (could mice even pout? He’d have to google it later) before reaching into her cage with his finger and running a finger over her smooth, golden fur. “Okay, NOW I’ve gotta go.” he told the mouse sternly, pushing the chair away from the desk and moving to his feet. Arms made their way above his head in a long stretch as he made his way through the tiny apartment to his bathroom.
He should be grateful, he thought, that Donella was kind enough to let him live alone, but god, this place was less than satisfactory. The window panes were cracked in their frames and never really shut properly - making winters like these with their incessant flurries of snow the worst in the world. Banging and screaming always sounded from above him, with his neighbours being possibly the most dysfunctional couple in the history of romance. The walls were paper thin too - he could hear whenever his frat-boy next door neighbour bought a girl round, dreading whenever he did, and he wasn’t even allowed to keep any real pets! It took MANY hours of seducing the landlord to be allowed to keep Olivia in the apartment with him. And don’t even get him started on the rip-off rent costs. Alas, it was home and he couldn’t bear to live with Donella again. She was a great woman, taking him in when he was young and supporting him, but she was terrible when it came to motherly duties and..it was pointless to expect that from her.
The bathroom wasn’t much to brag about, either. A lime mat covered most of the tiled floor with a heater barely peeking out under the mass of towels placed carelessly on top of it. Reaching out, he turned the handle and let the water run, so it could heat up gradually. He tapped his foot as we waited, checking his phone. 11:15am. Why did it feel like he was forgetting something? It was probably something Donella told him to do. She did that sometimes - springing plans onto him out of nowhere. As if he didn’t have a social life at all. So inconsiderate, he mumbled to himself. It didn’t matter anyway, the shower water already at the right temperature. He stripped out of his pyjamas and hopped in.
After his shower, Hugo finished drying his hair, tied it up and quietly changed into a light yellow shirt, blue jeans and his signature green jacket. He loved that jacket dearly, it being one of the first gifts Donella ever got him that wasn’t second-hand. (“Your clothes look ratty,” she’d said, trying to suppress her soft smile with a hardened expression. “I got you new ones. Maybe now you’ll look even slightly presentable.”) At least she was trying, he’d told himself as he started to fix his hair in the mirror.
Once he was fully satisfied, he set his course for the kitchen. In the hall, he passed various framed posters on the walls along with newspapers and small sticky notes with his engineering questions noted down on them. (All green, of course, because what was he, a monster? He had an aesthetic to uphold and he was determined to do so, goddamnit!). Shelves also littered the wall - containing various books on topics like engineering, chemistry, biology and physics. Donella had given him them too, so he had something to read growing up and to entertain himself while she was away on her business trips with her friend, Ulla. Sure, she’d be gone weeks at a time, leaving Hugo with Cyrus to be taken care of, but at least he had someone there to take care of him.
He trailed his hand to the doorknob and twisted it, pushing the door open and walking into the room. It was slightly bigger than the other rooms in the apartment - counters along the walls with a small table in the middle. A clock sat on the wall as well. 12:26pm. Why did it still feel like he was forgetting something? A string of curses left his mouth after he, in his distracted state, stubbed his toe on the chair, “Motherfucker! Ow!” he cried out and hopped awkwardly to the coffee machine which was, not surprisingly at all, fern green.
Hugo let the machine do its thing, taking the cup of absolute joy after it was done and adding some sugar. Black coffee was his saviour on a morning - especially after he’d had a party the night before. The bitter taste flooded his mouth and tickled his nose, him letting out a content sigh of happiness. This was it. The freedom he’d always wanted. He let the serenity of the moment relax the tension in his shoulders and allowed himself a moment where he could just be alone.
The moment was broken by a bleep on his phone.
“For fuck’s sake..” Hugo muttered as he checked the time again. 12:47pm. Shit, had it really been that long? Oh well..not as if he had anything to do today. His eyes scanned over the text he had received.
Cyrus : Hey bud. Have a good time on your date today. Remember - Donella needs you at the workshop by 17:00. Don’t be late.
  Shit.
He’d forgotten. How had he forgotten he was meeting up with Varian? He was such an idiot! He’d scored a date with the most handsome boy on the planet and somehow he’d forgotten! In his panic, Hugo tipped the coffee down the sink and rushed to the door...stubbing his toe again and slipping over. “FUCKING CHAIR!” he yelled and scrambled to his feet, scurrying and sitting on a step to lace up his shoe. His wallet and keys sat on the table by the door, his hand hurriedly scooping them up, shoving them into his pocket and racing out the door.
Lungs gasped for air and burned as he sprinted down the street, dodging people on his journey to the coffee shop. The sun shining in the sky was deceiving, the bitter winter air biting at the back of his neck. He should’ve bought a scarf. It was too goddamn cold out here - the December airs howling past his ears. He should’ve bought his headphones too. Oh god, he hoped Varian hadn’t bailed on him.
He fell through the doorway, gulping at the stares he received as he made his way through the people in the shop in search of one boy in particular with the beautiful blue streak in his raven hair. He stuttered apologies before his eyes found what he was looking for. Making his way over, he began to apologise. “Hey hairstripe, sorry I’m late. I was-”. His words died out as he made his way closer.
There, in the same booth as before, sat perfection in its finest form. Varian. His azure eyes were focused outside, gazing and half lidded but looking at nothing in particular. His ebony hair blew slightly in the slight breeze created by the fan in the shop, with the blue streaks sticking out against it. Freckled skin had a slight shine to it from the sun’s rays that provided perfect lighting and bringing out his soft features. His cyan sweater complimented the rest of his outfit, the headphones hanging around his neck matching the colour of his sneakers. It was like a movie scene - absolutely perfect. His mouth felt dry as the boy turned his head and gave him an excited smile and Hugo could swear he felt his heart skip a beat at the sight of it.
“Hugh! Hey!” Varian said, waving his hand and watching Hugo as he moved to sit in the booth opposite him. “It’s fine, you don’t need to apologise. I got here early anyway so I was just listening to some music.” he added onto the end, leaning against the table with a grin on his face. “Love the jacket by the way, really compliments the shirt.”
“I-thank you. I could say the same for you though. That sweater really brings out your eyes. And your hair.” he reached out his hand, running the strands between his fingers before pulling his hand away. He let out a chuckle at the sight of Varian’s flushed face, eyes fixated on the younger male as he tucked his hair behind his ear and fiddled with the hem of his shirt stuttering out explanations. “Hairstripe, calm down. It’s just a compliment. Anyway, what do you want? The drink is on me.”
“Oh, um -a vanilla latte again. Please.”
“Don’t miss me too much.” he grinned with a smug expression, laughing when Varian pushed him playfully before walking off to order. He let out a content sigh and glanced back at Varian as he ordered their drinks. The boy in question was playing with his hair as he read a chemistry textbook that he must’ve placed on the table when he left. He looked so beautiful, just sitting there without a care in the world. Hugo could just watch him forever, a red tint starting to build on the tips of his ears and cheeks as he realised just how long he’d been staring. He tore his eyes away from the breathtaking boy near the window and brought his attention back to the barista.
“Vanilla latte and black coffee for Hugo?” the chestnut haired girl questioned, placing the drinks on the side and allowing Hugo to pick them up. He nodded graciously, flashing her a smile before returning to his seat. Leaving a $5 tip in the jar on the way, he sauntered back to the table with the drinks in hand and a smile on his face.
“Lord Varian, your drink has been served by your humble servant. I am forever in your debt.” he laughed and sat down opposite the boy again as he pulled his drink close to his chest and took a sip. Hugo looked out of the window with a smile, eyeing the people walking past in the freezing weather, holding hands with their loved ones and cuddling them close to ward back the December breeze. He wished he could do that with a certain obsidian haired boy sitting across from him reading a chemistry textbook like the adorable nerd he was. “So. How’s your week been? I saw you were in the library yesterday. You did look great by the way.” He smirked and winked in his direction.
“Oh! It's been fine, Hugh. I do tutoring with Nuru on Wednesdays. We look after the sweetest boy in the world called Yong. He’s seriously the smartest kid I’ve ever met, but he gets so nervous to show it, y’know? And Nuru...god, she’s an amazing girl! Intelligent, yes, but just so mature and caring towards everyone! She’s a sweetheart really. How about you? Why were you there yesterday?” Varian asked quizzically, giving Hugo a little head tilt that made his heart soar. Fuck, he loved this boy.
“Me? Oh well, I was just picking up some books and doing some studying. I have an essay due in a few weeks and I just needed to look up some things.” he lied through his teeth. It was TOTALLY not because he wanted to see the other teen again before their date. Nope. No way. Nuh-uh.
“If you want me to, I could help you with your-”
“NO!” He yelled out, leaning forward against the table before flushing red and moving back into his seat, composing himself and tapping his leg rapidly to calm himself down. “I’m sorry, I uh-I think I’ll be fine on my own. Thanks for the offer though.” he chuckled awkwardly, letting out an exasperated sigh. “Sorry...I’m just really awkward.” he apologised, sliding back in his chair and covering his face with his hands. Great. Perfect. Absolutely swell. He’s just embarrassed himself in front of the boy of his dreams like an absolute idiot. If whatever god there was could just strike him dead right now, that would be fan-fucking-tastic-
A giggle followed by laughter and snorts broke him out of his spiral of self hatred. Varian’s hands wrapped around his wrists and gently lowered them, the most loving smile Hugo had ever seen plastered on his face as he dealt with the aftershocks of his laughing fit. “It’s okay. It was cute.” the boy commented, Hugo’s face twisting into a smile as well before joining him in his fit of laughter.
They must’ve looked like a strange pair - two boys laughing so hard they were in tears at a coffee shop in the middle of December, but neither of them cared. They were happy and that was all that mattered. Both took a sip from their coffees as they kept their eyes locked on each other. “Yep.” Varian thought, “Coffee does taste better when I’m drinking it with Hugo.” he concluded. He shuffled over in his booth, allowing Hugo to slide in beside him and look at the textbook to help with his questions.
Hugo tried his hardest to ignore how close Varian was, but after a few hours it became harder and harder to focus, with their shoulders pressed against each other and leaning forward with their eyes fixated on the book. A deep red flush developed on his cheeks yet again. Any closer and they’d be…Hugo tried not to focus on that, his gaze directing to Varian’s hand. He slowly and shakily took the younger’s hand in his own.
Hugo turned his head to look at Varian, the younger boy coincidentally doing the same thing at the same time. Their noses almost touched, but both of them were too lost in the moment to bother pointing out the awkwardness of the situation, with Hugo intertwining their fingers under the table. “Hugo?” the younger whispered. Hugo could feel the tantalizing breath on his lips, intermingling with his own. Just a little closer. He tilted his head, leaning in and..
 His phone rang.
Hugo snapped back to reality and moved away from Varian, letting go of his hand, much to both boy’s disappointment, and picked up his phone to answer it. “Hello?”
“Hugo.” Donella’s rough voice replied, and boy howdy, did she sound pissed off. He was in trouble for sure this time. “It's 5pm. Where the hell are you.” she growled through the phone.
“Shit, Donella I’m sorry. I forgot all about the time. I’ll start heading over now, I promise-”
“Hurry up then.” she commented before hanging up, leaving no time for discussion. Hugo turned to see Varian - the hurt on his face wounding Hugo’s heart. A kicked puppy would probably look less hurt than the boy did in that moment. And he put that look on his face. He really was the worst wasn’t he?
“Hey-write down your address. I’ll pick you up at 5 next Thursday-” he began to say, Varian’s face twisting in confusion before grabbing a napkin and handing it to Hugo. “Alright, I’m sorry to cut this short.” he sighed and gathered his things together. Hugo turned to leave, before he felt a hand grab his wrist and a kiss was placed on his cheek.
“Thank you.” Varian looked at the floor, his face flushed red however a smile was still evident on it. Hugo’s mouth felt dry yet again as he froze for a second, a now all too familiar heat covering his face. He nodded in response and headed out the store, where he immediately leant against the wall and placed a hand on his cheek.
“Holy fucking shit..” he whispered to himself. “I’m in love with Varian Ruddiger.” He let himself get lost in the moment before another bleep reminded him of where he had to be. Shit. He started sprinting down the street, his path illuminated by streetlights as he passed them with a smile on his face. Well…
Next week was gonna be interesting.
He opened the door to the workshop Donella ran, passing her henchmen as if they weren’t threatening at all. They fixed their glares onto him - okay yep, he was definitely in trouble for being late. He pushed open the doors, putting on his smug facade as he made his way to Donella’s desk. “Hey Donella, I’m here.” he declared, placing his hands on the desk and leaning against it. “You needed me?”
“Yes, I did.” she frowned at him and gave him her infamous death stare. He cowered back slightly before regaining his composure again. “I trust this won’t happen again..?” she questioned, a slight smile tugging on her lips at the frantic nod he gave. “Good. Now get to work. We have an important client who requested specifically for you to make his product so..get to it.”
He hurriedly left her office, heading to his workspace and pulling on his goggles and gloves. Sheesh, that woman could seem evil sometimes - he bet in her past life, she was probably a supervillain. Maybe in an alternate universe, she was. He let out a breathy chuckle, glancing over the blueprints. Hm. Looked difficult, but he could do it. He set the paper aside and began to work, the incident from the coffee shop still playing on his mind.
He couldn’t wait to see Varian again.
Meanwhile, Varian packed his things again and began his walk home. Was Hugo about to...kiss him? Did he seriously feel the same as he did? It made him feel giddy just thinking about the way Hugo’s cold hands felt against his warm ones, the closeness that made his heart pound and ache for more contact, the way Hugo leaned in and tilted his head...wow. Hugo liked him. And he liked Hugo.
He pushed open his door and, once again, fed Ruddiger before heading up to his room. The cat purred gratefully and ate before following his master, lounging across his bed as if he owned the place. The audacity of the fat bastard! “Sometimes I wonder why I feed you.” Varian wondered aloud, grinning as the cat meowed back and swatted V’s hand as he tried to pet him. “Ow! Okay! Geez, I get it!” he laughed before reaching over and grabbing his phone to see some texts from Hugo.
Hugo : Sorry for leaving so early, short stuff
Hugo : My mom needed me for something and I completely forgot
Hugo : But hey, next week you’ll have me all to yourself ;)))
Varian scoffed and looked at Ruddiger, who he swore had a disgusted expression as he read the phone screen. “I know Ruddiger. Absolutely disgraceful, isn’t it?” He chuckled, but..deep down he knew he wasn’t opposed to the idea of having Hugo all to himself...He shut that idea down fast, typing out a sarcastic response as he tried (and massively failed) to feign annoyance.
Varian : You wish I’d want that, you twerp
Hugo : Oh I don’t wish, I know ;)
Hugo : also, V?
Varian : What is it now, Hugh?
Hugo : Thanks for the kiss. Didn’t get the chance to say that earlier but..thanks
Hugo : Anyway, I’ve gotta go. Mom wants me.
Hugo : See you next week, sweetie <3
Varian : No problem, Hugo. See you next week =)
Varian set his phone aside and sat up. He completely forgot. He kissed Hugo’s cheek. Oh god, please don’t make it awkward, he internally begged. He didn’t want things to become weird between them. He really...really liked Hugo and just didn’t wanna mess this one up. He changed into his PJ’s and shuffled under the covers, reading through their conversations.
“Goodnight Ruddiger..” he muttered as he turned off the lights and closed his eyes, trying to drift off to sleep. He sighed in frustration and brought out his phone, turning it on quietly and typing out 3 words.
Varian : I Love You
His lips twitched into a frown as he stared at those 3 words. They held so much weight - had the power to change the course of his and Hugo’s relationship as soon as he sent them. He thought back to their meeting. Was he just being friendly? Did he just get distracted? Did Hugo actually like him? A hand reached up to run through his hair. What if he was just misreading the signs?
What if Hugo found out? What if he found out about all the terrible things Hugo had done? The people he hurt? How badly he messed up? Varian bit his lip so harshly the metallic taste of blood flooded into his mouth. Hugo would never love someone like that. Someone who did everything that he did. Tears he didn’t even know had developed fell onto his phone screen, to his surprise. He quietly set it down and wiped his eyes. Not tonight, he thought.
Varian held his finger down, erasing the text and setting his phone aside. He tucked his knees into his chest and looked at the wall. He had to tell him one day. Not now, but one day. He slowly started to drift to sleep, the thought of their date still fresh in his mind and the remnants of a smile on his face.
