Darcy held Katherine tight in the embrace he couldn't bear to give her before. The anger was gone and all was left was the pain. His sister was alive but that didn't mean she was okay. He would never be able to forget the way her eyes looked. Glazed over and glassy and filled to the brim with an anger that wasn't her's. The empire had taken his sister and molded her into something that she wasn't. How he had yearned for her to be alive for so long. But what did it matter if she was alive if this is what they had done to her?

Maybe there were some fates worse than death indeed.

Darcy's head pounded as silent, angry tears fell down his face again. His migraine mimicked the pain in his heart: strong, sharp, and never ending. Katherine's warmth eased some of that suffering, and relished in what he could. He pulled back to stare are her through the hazy aura in his vision.
