Hey, if you don’t mind the question. What’s your opinion on Undertale Yellow?

8/10 game. pretty good at being a game, not so much at being an undertale story. the gameplay itself was fun, the area/puzzle designs too, the soundtrack was untouchable it literally gave me the same rush i felt hearing sburb initiation for the first time. minor NPCs designs were fun but the primary cast was too monotonous, tbh. (all the main characters have tall gangly very detailed designs save for like, axis). its attempts at landing Undertale's humor were quite often successful, but it held back on exaggeration and caricaturing its original characters which took away that oomph from the canon game. the character writing was... lacking. which is a pity.

i love fucked up women so i was really disappointed that every single one of ceroba's actions/ideas/influences on the story were nothing but an extension of her dead husband. when you take chujin away she's just... A Good Wife and Mother. or starlo's past love interest ig. i mean both dalv and martlet's backstory were tied to her family and we never see them interact at all. but they do have an established dynamic.... with the dead husband. again. UGH. she's just really wasted as a character (she and chujin should've BOTH been scientists and she should've continued the project AGAINST his wishes after he died. she's the main cast character, she should be the driving force in the narrative, not him—even if chujin sets the plot in montion by inventing the serum first).

I'm not a huge asgore fan—not that i dislike him, he's just not a character i care about all that much—so congrats to this game for making me say "he would NOT fucking say that". the "fuck the royals" subplot thing was really unnecessary. actually, that was a bit of a recurring thing in the game. suddenly introducing these Huge Social Dilemmas like labor exploitation, anti-monarchic sentiments, misogyny (bro who on earth "needs to take a wife" this is Undertale) everyone realizing that clover is a child, over exaggerating the violence at stake... while also attempting to maintain Undertale's careless, bouncy treatment of the situation. that's... not how things work. undertale is able to maintain its light tone BECAUSE it doesn't let you take those topics seriously, they're not meant to be. the fairytale-like king, the battles, the child protagonist, they're all set dressings for the REAL story and REAL power imbalance it wants to highlight: that between player and game characters. everything is in function of that. you take that layer of separation and make everyone aware that theyre violently attacking and killing a literal child... that's not. a good thing dude. if it's not gonna impact the tone of the story, why acknowledge it in the first place? it's just unnecessary

anyway flowey neutral run was really, really fun. his dialogue writing all throughout the game was very solid and i had a blast having him around. however, they shouldn't have tried to anticipate his character development. this game is a prequel, you can't do that without undermining his arc in the canon events. pacifist should've had him doubling down on his frustration from the neutral ending. i do all this work for you keeping you alive and you make the same mistake i did sacrifice yourself for them??? are you BRAINDEAD???? what I'm saying is he basically should've thrown the biggest tantrum of his LIFE. oh and in the NM run he should've been terrified when he lost control of the SAVE file. this is the first time it's ever happened to him and now he's gonna die for good. he wouldn't have gloated like he did.

if you want to hear more criticism along the lines of what i said then this post by the fantastic @andreabandrea covers a lot of what i also felt during the game. i know this might sound like a lot of negativity, but the fact remains that UTY was an absolutely phenomenal work of fan creativity the likes of which we have never seen before in the fandom. considering the quality and polish, i thought it only fair to approach it as the piece of art it is and give it my genuine thoughts on the matter.

overall, still a really fun way to spend the afternoon with a pal. so. thumbs up

#it's just that. it is a product of fandom. with a lot of fandom shortcomings too #and seeing people praise it so wholeheartedly that they insinuate it surpasses the original #just reminds me once again that the majority of people have absolutely zero idea about what makes undertale 1) good 2) what it is #lol #answered asks #no word on the music i have the tag blacklisted because I'm tired of seeing it everywhere but not the music brother #i am listening to that shit 24/7 #turn it UP

Sorry if someone’s already asked this but what’s your opinion on undertale yellow?

ooh UTY!! well-deserved title of being one of the best ut fangames out there imo. wonderful designs, character backstories and the MUSIC. hooo the music. they went so hard on that i cannot tell you how many times i’ve listened to Guns Blazing and all the flowey fight tracks lmao

speaking of flowey (wonderful segway there) the neutral run has gotta be my favourite route because they absolutely Nailed his character. the fact that they implemented his trauma into his attacks is so smart and to top that with the different art styles??? their mind??? it also felt like he was experimenting with how he’d want his actual omega flowey fight to be like which is so so cool

i still remember the first time i saw him go from “why won’t you give up??” to slowly looking straight at the player. since clover doesn’t exactly have determination the meta aspects of ut won’t be as prominent, but in that short moment you get a huge blow of it- just flowey acknowledging but not quite confirming your presence, a second of vulnerability on both ends and then it’s gone. chef’s kiss gave me all the chills 👌🏻

that said tho although it is the yellow soul backstory i don’t really see it as a ut prequel? not in a bad way just that it doesn’t quite give the same energy as undertale yknow. some parts like the character designs are actually too good to fit into ut’s aesthetic (like ceroba and starlo’s whole gang), while some npcs felt like they were there just to deliver a gag instead of being a part of the world. ik undertale is guilty of that too at times but i felt like uty had a lot more of it,,

it would’ve also been interesting if they tied in the geno route to canon ut instead of having clover releasing the souls. it was kinda sudden to me especially with all the buildup of how asgore will definitely kill him but in reality he just got KO’d not even in battle. you’ve got the player rooting for the monsters and you’ve got a successful geno run in undertale already, so why not do something different here and have clover fail? see how the underground deals with the aftermath of it all while still developing into the ut we know?

BUT despite that it’s no doubt this is a phenomenal fangame! loved the demo when it came out, love the final even More, and the passion of everyone in the team really shines through- it’s so cool to see what this community can come up with :)

What if Moray parents are Dogamy and Dogaressa and Moray is part of Endogeny?

Just an idea.

I love that idea but also I hate doing that to Moray 🥺

The amalgamates are special in how they’re kept to the end and you get a sense of familiarity with them but you can’t quite tell why until you see them with their families again

I kinda wanna reserve that for something more significant than just saying “oop Moray you have nothing to do here have some eternal suffering” /j

In this AU I’m already making Asriel one of the amalgamates for character-swap consistency. I imagine the others would be mixes of npcs from UTY (the names of which all escape me rn for some reason except Sweet Corn and Penilla)

Actually, Red technically isn’t in Undertale… I could put Moray and Red in place of Dogamy and Dogaressa. Of course, their relationship would probably be different hahah

Tho now I gotta think about the changing significance of Endogeny. Like, what if Moray’s parents replace the dogs in this situation?

The extent of this extended universe is extending. I keep trying to have it all make sense and be nuanced while also completely ignoring the big question of “what kind of big event would change the timeline this much?”

I’m hurting my brain trying to make sense of it all rn so lets just stick to character swaps and we can flesh out the lore and narrative later-

Doing my do-diligence and posting on one of the now (fairly) rare times that I do to tell y’all:

Undertale Yellow was good and I have now entered that fandom lol

(Spoiler free review because I’m bored lol!)

It was so much more than I expected it to be. Most Undertale fan games I’ve seen are short and sweet, or are just a single boss that’s hard to beat. UTY is so much more than a fan game!It’s a fully fleshed out game with a lovely story (including secrets to be found to expand the story telling), fun characters, and amazing music. The game play itself is very fun as well! Very similar to Undertale, but it adds its own flare to the game mechanics in certain battles that make it fun and challenging! The game itself is canon-compliant in many ways, but adds its own lore too! It felt like it fit into the original universe tbh, especially when it came to jokes, flavor text, and npc dialogue! Plus, the art and animations are absolute beautiful at times! I was not expecting the animations to be as cool as they are! Especially for a fan game! The only negative things I have have for UTY is that some of the character sprites feel off compared to what Toby and Temmie created, but it’s not a bad thing and it’s to be expected with art! However, there’s so SO many sprites that feel like they could easily fit in Undertale or Deltarune! My last “bad thing” is that some of the boss battles are more than a bit difficult. But I still had fun with the challenge!

Tbh if I didn’t know any better, I’d think this was an official prequel to Undertale! Props to the team behind this fan game for this! I recommend anyone who enjoyed Undertale and/or Deltarune to play this game! It was a journey and I had a blast with it!

A very random ramble about fiction ideas... some which might could turn into fanfics lol

As a person who enjoys writing, I've made a few fanfics and a few original pieces of writing in my time... Funny, when I first started being on the internet, I didn't really fancy myself as a writer... but now? I think it's one of my passions... or at least, writing ties into my passion of creating characters, and building worlds for them. Whether that be some fanon (like Splatoon or Pokemon, ect) or my own original work. Creating or thinking about characters/fictional worlds is something that I think about on a daily basis, whether that entails trying to create fiction, or simply enjoying a walk through the realms of my imagination lol. I have all sorts of random ideas in mind... some that could have fanfic potential, and others are just dumb thoughts ig. These random ideas that could potentially be crafted into stories/scenarios include: A dumb fic/scenario idea of how my Undertale/Deltarune sona (who's a snow woman monster), might meet North Star/Starlo from UTY... Perhaps him and his family could be selling corn to the residents of Snowdin, in which my sona would get to know him as they sell their corn there... She'd get a huge dumb crush on him, but wait for him to ask her out because she's old fashioned... Later on, she notices that he's rather happy. And when she asks him why, he ends up telling her that he and his childhood crush are finally going out. Cue my sona to making a friendly/not rude excuse to go back home and then once returning home, proceeding to cry of heartbreak... In the end, this works for the best, because my sona prolly couldn't handle the climate of the dunes lol. (she also does her best to be happy for Starlo and Ceroba lol... after she mourns her heartbreak) ....I'd like to imagine the my sona and Starlo remain as friends by the end of the fic

And of course another fic idea I have that I would love to attempt is a Side Order fic... We honestly don't know much about Splatoon 3's Side Order yet BUT I'M HOPING AGENT 4 GETS CAUGHT UP IN IT... It would make for some great angst between Cryo and Tom. (Tom is my Agent 4 lol) ....Like perhaps Tom and Nestor (my Agents 4 and 8) would be going to Inkopolis Square for old time's sake or something.... Then the events of Side Order happens. Perhaps Tom and Nestor both go missing, and with her best friend Tom gone missing, Cryo goes to Inkopolis Square to investigate, only to be caught up in the Side Order antics as well! ....I imagine she and Nestor would play the role of Agent 8, with Nestor taking on missions by Daylight, and Cryo taking on missions by Moonlight... (in my Splatoon fanon, Cryo is known as Agent Ice) ...if the Splatbands make cameos as NPCs to rescue, and those NPCs included Ikkan and Warabi, that could potentially make for some fun interactions between Cryo and Tom! (since in my fanon, both Cryo and Tom are musicians and end up at least being friends with Ikkan and Warabi) ...tbh I've gotten so attached to my oc x canon ship Cryo x Ikkan, I might just make it canon to my fanon. And seeing Diss-Pair in Side Order, would give me the chance to see if such a silly ship could be viable to my fanon lol. (if not, then it could have the event of Ikkan rejecting Cryo's feelings and heartbreak ensues for the poor Octoling) SPEAKING OF IKKYO I definitely intend to continue the oc x canon fic, seeing as it's my favorite oc x canon ship of mine.... I can't help it, I ship them so hard. ;w; So much so, I might make it canon to my main fanon. I've got rough ideas for Chapters 4 and 5, as well as Chapter 3 being mainly done, just not posted lol. Speaking of Undertale, Undertale Yellow and Ikkyo, I have another dumb fiction idea that might not be turned into fanfiction, but it's fun to think about: Like an UT AU where the monsters and humans live on the surface, and maybe there's this fair/event for monsters and humans to maybe work together, like mentors and kids who look up to them? Like Clover looking up to Starlo, since he's a rootin tootin cowboy... (ok so he's still just a dweeb farmer who enjoys LARPing as a Sheriff, but they look up to him nonetheless) And Tom (who in my UT fanon does the role of Frisk) maybe looking up to Mettaton and wishing to take the stage, albeit by playing the saxophone rather than being a famous actor/star like Mettaton. And Cryo, who looks up to Ikkan (who might could be a squid monster in this AU?) who's the bassist of the band Diss-Pair. (in this scenario Ikkyo is not shipped romantically, but purely in a wholesome, platonic manner) Also it's fun to imagine Tom and Clover being friends and chilling out like pals... It's also fun to imagine how the kids would get along with their mentors, and how they might look up to them... Especially Starlo and Clover, like maybe he could be the cool farmer/cowboy uncle they never had and they enjoy playing Wild West with him as well as maybe helping him on his farm sometimes... Looking up to the funny star monster and aspiring to be like him someday~ I dunno man... imagining fictional scenarios is just too much fun for me lol

(Also just want to point out that any dynamics between adults and minors here are STRICTLY platonic, as we do not romantically ship adults and minors here!)

Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game?

yes unfortunately! There are two and they belong to you, moth!

The first is Tabitha Northgate. When you recruit the both of them there is in awkward dialogue triggered either in camp or while they're in your party. They awkwardly greet each other and say the other looks well, rolling a mid dc on investigation you realize there's history between them. I think asking Tabby to delve further into what happened nets disapproval and she won't give you a clear answer. You also get disapproval from her for asking Uty, but he'll reveal they were married roughly 15~ years ago and a series of unfortunate events led to their falling out. Do not press him or he'll net disapproval.

Having high approval in Act 2 you can speak to him and ask him again about Tabby and he'll reveal he still loves her, and will never stop but life has torn them apart and he is focused on one thing for now. You won't be able to bring this up to Tabby. It isn't until you meet Raphael in Act 2 and find out that Uty made a deal with Raphael can you ask him what the deal is and with a dc 20 of persuasion he'll reveal that they lost something dear to them both, and Tabby spiraled, so to try and save both things he made a deal with Raphael.

Act 3 you find Moxie in Rivington and both he and Tabby will now have updated quests that are: Saving Moxie. This is where as Durge you find out [REDACTED]. If you ever choose a path that involves hurting Moxie or Tabby, he will also leave the party and become a fucking menace the entire game. Saving Moxie triggers a special scene between him, Moxie, and Tabby where they reunite. He can later be found near Moxie talking to her about stuff they did when she was little. if you save her you can also find a unique dialogue choice with him asking about his bracelets, where he'll reveal Moxie had made them as a child and he has kept them ever since as a reminder of what he lost and what he stands to gain.

a human boy from the opalarian empire. as the npcs should assume, he’s a wanderer who tends not to be where exactly he should belong. he sees no point in their warring, and feels incredibly bad about the need to even white lie about his reasons for crossing - which have begun to fall under trade and mere exploration, even if they’re not quite believed. if found outside the empire territory, he’s most likely gotten in through incredibly illegal (though not necessarily evil or harmful) means.

most prominently will be seen looking for friends or friendly faces. you can find him almost anywhere, so long as it’s not in a jail cell or five seconds from respawning.

( he can’t keep doing this. this is too many wars, guys. he’s seen two already and even if he doesn’t remember one, that’s screwed up. he’s not a fan even he didn’t remember either of them! unfortunate that he can’t knock some sense into npcs with his sword or his words.

also, failing to save the city was a terrible time. he was certainly conscious, but. it’s hard to do things with that same sword and little else ability! he’s hoping there’s a way to save them all again. )

magic abilities. retains cure from canon; gains barrier (def), blessing (att), light, and lock/open (uti). physical abilities. still incredibly fast and evasive, because that’s a thing you have to keep up when you’re running from guards who hate you, apparently! weapons. the wooden sword with a keychain attained upon arrival in isola.

other. god i don’t know what he’s wearing but imagine it’s fantasy stuff i don’t really know? he’s still baby it’s relatively the same
