#they’re supposed to be some sort of experiment to see if people could recreate Sun Wukongs stone egg. the goal was to make a more controlled#and tame version using carved wood and cultivation. but eventually they got worried about it becoming too powerful and scrapped it#eventually they come to life and live in the abandoned temple they were built in#their bottom half is made of wood because when they came to life their creator/s left them unfinished when they scrapped the project#they had to carve the rest of their body out of hunger and frustration because they couldn’t eat or move much by crawling on their top half#this is also why they spite their creators and hate irresponsible creation. because of abandonment issues and feeling like they have no#purpose or direction in life#their power is also very limited to due being man made since they were originally a wood carving#meo gave me the idea but one reason would be because they’re half finished. the sculpture was still half stump so it was completely untouche#that half can channel power in its raw form but the other half cannot once it’s been carved by man#so technically they could have the same level or potential for power as the stone but that was dampened#the other thing is how they were created to be a duplicate or recreation of a stone monkey and a celestial looked at that and was like#‘we’re not doing that again’ LMAO#i think the case of them carving their own legs doesn’t take away their power though. that balance was made#before they came to life so carving the legs or not can’t affect it anymore. like making a cake and slicing it#their energy levels are also naturally low because of that so their movements are sluggish and they aren’t very active overall#constantly lying in the sun to charge their batteries and get some stuff done. just like me fr#I actually don’t know what I’m gonna do with this character besides Put Them In Situations with other ppls ocs.. so if you have#a lmk oc you have been warned /lh /j#I wanna make some backstory art for them though.. maybe even the animatic treatment if I can get through dear wormwood which is 25#SECONDS OUT OF 3 MIN BTW#doodles#Lego Monkie kid#lmk#Monkie kid#lmk oc#monkie kid oc#myart#my art#xin ya

I love Wolfquest the game I've been playing it since I could figure out how to download shitty demo apps onto my ipad at like 8 years old and now I'm working on starting a legacy pack in 3.0 and im so excited for the saga but the specific experience I get when playing the game is so fascinating it's like no other game I've played
Literally I open the game and I'm thinking logically what my next moves are and what I need to take care of like any responsible gamer but as time goes on and I get more autistic about it I inevitably hyperfocus on the game and this fugue state I'm naturally put in by any interesting thing just propels my brain into the body of the wolf avatar on my screen and I forget I ever walked on two legs. Sheer, utter joy. Absolute euphoria. Until eventually I'm disturbed within a singular percentage of my fixation and I remember that I was never there at all.

i say all my art is personal because if it wasn't, then there was a process behind it, and that process can be analyzed and criticized. if it's just me, then you can't criticize it, because criticizing me is rude

Jingyi hadn’t expected there to be an inn in Yiling—surely the enormous cloud of resentment overshadowing the western sky would encourage travelers to keep right on traveling—but if there was Burial Mounds tourism, then there had to be at least one inn. Wu Yuan informed them that there were in fact three. This seemed downright excessive to Jingyi, but apparently one of them was just an elderly couple who rented their spare rooms at generous rates to anyone new to the city who needed time to find their feet before settling in.
People moved to Yiling. On purpose. Truly it boggled the mind.
Of the other two inns, one was apparently much nicer than the other, with soft beds and breakfast included. That one catered to traveling cultivators and the wealthier class of tourist. If they’d been adults, or if they’d been on a sanctioned mission, that was probably where they’d stay. As it was, there was only so much silver to go around, especially since Jin Ling threw a fit and refused to pitch in.

So I know Betty wished for Simon to never get hurt when she was inside of golb, but while that keeps Simon from actual harm, does that mean he will die of old age? Does his human life progress as if he's 47, going on 48, 49, 50, or did Betty's wish COMPLETELY cease him from dying? Is he eternally 47? Is he essentially a deathless being like Hunson now?

There's a big focus on "pristine" "undisturbed" spaces in most entry-level conservation spaces but disturbance is arguably a big part of any ecosystem.
I live on the east coast, we get hurricanes about once a year. Massive storm, rips trees out of the ground, drenches the soil, blows away anything not nailed down (and sometimes those too.) Terrible for, say, a forest, right?
Well... not exactly.
Some dead trees that were still standing might get blown away or knocked over, as will a good number that weren't deeply rooted enough to hold on. But that newly cleared space is an opportunity for new plants - and new trees - to grow, taking advantage of greater access to sunlight to claim their spot in the canopy or reproduce before a new tree takes over, leaving their seeds buried for the next opening. That rainwater will percolate into the soil, feeding all the plants already there and maybe giving some the boost they need to germinate. Cleared forest floor gives them the space to poke out of the soil and start growing. This is a yearly occurrence, of course the plants are going to be adapted to it.
Certain ecosystems actually depend on specific types of disturbance to be maintained, like fire-adapted forests that clear away dead brush and make room for new seeds to sprout. Those pinecones that only open after they've been burned? That's fire adaptation! The ecosystem needs that blaze to let new plants grow, and to keep the underbrush from building up so much that the next fire burns everything to the ground.
Intertidal communities have to survive being submerged and exposed to sunlight, which isn't an easy task for most marine organisms! Prairies get grazed and trampled by roving herds of bison, but they also get fertilizer in return from their poop. Deserts spend most of the year dry until lucky weather sends enough rain to make the land bloom; cacti are notoriously picky about when they flower because the wrong timing can kill them.
It's not the presence or absence of disturbance, it's the kind and intensity that matters. Cattle were disastrous for some US ecosystems because they weren't adapted to non-selective grazers that ate anything they could get in their mouths, leaving them nearly picked clean of edible plant life. Fire is essential to my local forests, but devastating to others. Some plants thrive specifically in disturbed areas, often as a sort of disaster recovery to restore the conditions needed by late-succession species to come back.
Disturbance is a part of ecosystems. There is no "pristine" nature, every member of the community is impacting something else. Humans are members of our ecosystems, just as much as a bird or bush. Instead of trying to separate ourselves from it, shouldn't we try to have a good impact?

Halsin was a breath of fresh air in this camp - almost literally. His outlook on life riveled her own, and at least now she had someone who could understand her love for this world and all that inhabited it.
"Probably more an embarrassing secret rather than a good one, I just thought perhaps you'd find it funny." Karlach grinned, her arms folded. "When I was in Avernus, probably the first year or so I was stationed, if you want to put it that way... I was so lonely, I 'adopted' a pet rock. I called it Crag. He got smashed at some point."
She gestured to one of his whittled wooden ducks. "Though I think these beauties would have been so much better to have. They're so detailed! Do you name them?"

"Such was the origin of the sort of intimacy which took place between them within the first fortnight after the Miss Bertrams' going away, an intimacy resulting principally from Miss Crawford's desire of something new, and which had little reality in Fanny's feelings. Fanny went to her every two or three days; it seemed a kind of fascination; she could not be easy without going, and yet it was without loving her, without ever thinking like her, without any sense of obligation for being sought after now when nobody else was to be had; and deriving no higher pleasure from her conversation than occasional amusement, and that often at the expense of her judgement, when it was raised by pleasantry on people or subjects which she wished to be respected."
Such a great description of those relationships of convenience we fall into where we have absolutely nothing in common.

For like two glorious days we got cooperation and open-mindedness on a scale that made defeating Dracula seem incredibly possible.
…and then well-meaning withholding of information and dismissing strange evidence as being dreams can-canned back in and trampled that progress beneath their well-worn heels
