Okay I know we like to joke about Vaggie and Charlie having really kinky sex but..

* Charlie for years thought that her girl friend was normal Sinner and wanted to get her into Heaven.

* Charlie has "pre marital sex" on the list of things to avoid.

* There is no way she would bar her girlfriend from redemption for her own needs.

So that's a lot of evidence against them having that sort of carnal relationship pre-reveal. However, we can then add-

So what am I getting at? Charlie may be bi-romantic, but when push comes to shove, she acts very much like a sex-repulsed asexual. So it's possible that their relationship is purely romantic and not sexual. Which fits into their whole paradigm of having a really non-standard relationship by Hell's standards.

Either that or any "fun times" they have is so vanilla that it turns the ice cream coffee flavored in comparison. Because Charlie is clearly not comfortable with anything more exotic.

From Ben Lerner's book No Art. This is a UK collection of three smaller poetry books Lerner published in the US. This poem was originally published in the collection Angle of Yaw.

Cartoons and other simplified iconic imagery may be visually precise, but their worlds follow laws of metaphor, rather than physics. When Wile E Coyote runs off the edge of a cliff, he only falls once he has noticed he no longer has ground to stand on, his neck elongating to allow his head to be stationary just a moment longer, grimacing. When he hits the ground, his silhouette becomes a hole.

Cartoon characters live in worlds where the very fabric of reality reacts to their actions. "Flatten the duck with a frying pan and he becomes the frying pan." I have microplastics in my gut and blood. Cartoon characters are kinda narcissistic. The world moves, they do not. Livestock globally undergo unthinkable torture, but I still like eating burgers. When I'm sick I subconsciously imagine my face to be green and swelling.

The language of poetry is not at all precise, instead probing toward subject matter that wriggles away from prosaic depiction. But the language of this poem is precise, scientific and specific, employed to describe images that do not relate to our reality. It has an uncanny kind of meter to it, but takes the form of prose: a block of functional sentences.

There's something weird happening here, in the space between the things being described and the language used. When Tom and Jerry assault one another, we don't feel their pain. They operate outside of the rules of gravity, so the violence is weightless. They can see it coming, but wait for it in place.

The gravity of the situation of climate breakdown is known to us, but felt like cartoon violence, weightlessly and unliterally.

When I think of a cow, I imagine something like this.

"The popular breakfast sandwich is made of cartoon flesh."
