Today's additions are the seven Koopalings! These guys were pretty fun to work on, especially taking inspiration from a lot of the stuff they're known for using in battle. It was also fun giving them fun weapons to use, such as Lemmy's Bumper or Morton's Skewer gauntlets. Fun fact: all seven of them are based on a specific boss fight (except Lemmy). Think you're able to recognize them all?

Wait there's only six here. Oh yeah, I forgot one of them, and it's probably the most interesting idea out of all of them:

Yup! Iggy found his way into the Underwhere and stole its three-headed guardian to carry around his chariot. He's always had a strong relationship to Chomps, so why not use the strongest ones of them all? Bringing the world of regular Mario together with the world of Super Paper Mario is one of my favorite things to do with this project, bringing the whole shared universe closer than what just having the Underchomp as a character would accomplish.

Red Chain Chomps are an enemy that first appears in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, and show up again in Super Paper Mario as part of the Underchomp. They also show up in the main world in games such as in Mario Party 7, and WarioWare Touched. Once again another example of a enemy that was introduced in the Paper games, and still shows up in the main world.

the underchomp was a fun change of pace but i think there should have been additional challenges like that

It was definitely suprising. I'll say though, being introduced to a one time game mechanic with its own rules spontaneously can throw people off.

I remember watching someones playthrough and they weren't exactly sure what to do in this situation since before that you don't really have an effect sheet/description for certain things and, well, before you really didnt have to worry about getting hit since you had the ability to dodge. In this case you're locked in place. The person died to it and then realised they can apparently use the Pixls in this fight which turned out extremely useful, maybe even crucial. You have the stats of characters IF you examine them with Tippi or have a card but otherwise you're left guessing.

Overall if challenges like that more present in the game it would add variety but more doesn't always mean better. SPM already mixes a lot of styles, from the Brobot fight in space being a shooter, Fracktail being dynamic in 2D and 3D simultaneously, and the Underchomp like you mentioned. Maybe there are a few more that I don't remember but it's honestly already pretty cool as it is. Maybe as additional challenges, that could work nice alongside the Pit of 100 Trials.

I'd like to mention some that I commonly forgot bc in stupid

1. whacka bc for some reason I kept forgetting he existed. or was a card. either one. also honourable mention to Cyrrus because I think I tried him twice but he's not a card 😔 also same for Flimm and Flamm...

zombie/ghoul shroom (honourable kept spelling specifically ghoul shroom as ghoul shrrom), dull bones line, chain chomp line (which is a shame bc Underchomp at least used to be my favourite boss, mostly for the music) mega koopa, most of Francis' meowbots especially surprisemeow but mainly because they spelt surprise as suprise which brings back memories of yr1 me beating a yr6 in a spelling bee because of that exact mistake 😇, pokey line, bullet bill, but especially the blaster bc I kept trynna type launcher :/, Welderberg, Hornfels and Monzo bc I kept forgetting how to spell their names, piranha plant line, underhand, and pm/pmtyd partners bc I haven't played those games oops

I have so many opinions and questions about Luigi in that game. Mr. L is the best in a bastard kinda way and Dimentio is the best but in a 'you love to hate him' kinda way. Who're your favorite characters?

Also like 90% of my love/information for this game is directly from the Fandom because I just love absorbing things via osmosis ig

Yeah yeah sure blame this for your candybats hyperfixation

But actually I DID get into spooky month through a mutuals spm blog sooooo

Also the memory soundtracks are the literal definition of nostalgia

And also o chunks

Love him

Amazing

Probably definitely has some trauma

But yknow all the best characters do

Not literally all of my blorbos being absolutely traumatized hehe

Honestly I love chapter 2

Like when I was younger I always wished I could replay that chapter

Also chapter 8 is just yes

Can we start a Blumiere’s father hate club

I’ll bring snacks

I have memorized the whoa zone and joy to get through it

But not the final maze in chapter 8-4

Also the piccolo quest takes FOREVER and is TEDIOUS but I don’t want to try to battle the underchomp without it so yknow

Also speaking of which I love that Mario canonically goes to hell

And also chapter 7 is like??? A masterpiece??? Like literally THE WORLDBUILDING AND DESIGN OF THE UNDERWHERE I CANT

Just finished my “no lvl up” run, and I must say... This game still makes my heart ache, positively, but it still hurts.

idk, something about Dimentio being irredeemable hurts me akjshd I like that he supposedly dies/vanishes in the end, it’s the ultimate ending for him, but I feel like he didn’t just betray Count Bleck and the others, he betrayed us players too, maybe that’s exaggerated to say, but ... it’s painful

And I also have to say that I had to lvl up to defeat the Underchomp because it’s just impossible to do it kjashd

Attack of the koopa bros has been my ringtone for too long, rec me a different song from the paper mario ost to change it to

Gloam Valley is my Favorite of the OST, everytime I hear it it just gives me a big rush of Serotonin and I begin to grin... this song's stimulating my brain cell

Maybe "Got a Special Item" for a Text tone? Lol, I have the Rayman 2 Switch Flipped Chime as tone when I plug in my phone lol
