Written as a companion to a dance piece by choreographer Kate Wallich, Ugly Season effectively inverts the balance, situating Hadreas' hallmarks- his romanticism, his expressivity, his startling, sometimes violent sense of drama-in the context of something that plays more like a symphony or soundtrack than a set of discrete songs. Bo NA$TY definitely specializes in that “gettin ignant in the whip, driving way too damn fast with ya niggas spillin henny on the backseat” type music. That “no, officer, this is just tobacco” type music; and he just dropped yet another gem off his upcoming mixtape UGLY Season for ya’ll niggas to get pulled over to. “Hoopty Music” is the second single off the tape (here is the first single if you late as hell smh), featuring Jah NA$TY cause NA$TY is truly the squad, and these niggas are not playing. The beat on this one is a pretty straightforward trap track with a Southern kick, but it hits hard and with Jah and Bo’s rugged NYC flows it makes for some good ass riding music. Keep your eyes peeled for UGLY Season dropping (real soon, we not finna get into dates right now) and hit that play button boi.

Premiered on SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY, Bo NA$TY auto-produces ”NA$TYTHE$QUAD”, off of his upcoming tape UGLYSeason, due out early 2014.  Bo, who is loosely associated with Little Pain, Ade&Nte, and Prada Mane, unearths some of the new hype that his borough (Brooklyn), and city (New York City) have been toying with recently.  Here, he focuses his reverberated//deepened voice into a rolling sound peppered with splintering synths.  

Wincing the white-bright gleam of pain into a nature-walker’s eyes, Bo pulses discomfort throughout his instrumental.  Paired with a snarling//synth flute prod, he creates a facade of organic gore.  Piercing sounds from nature butt up against industrially-churned hi-hats and hood-hoppin shrugs in the distance.  A careful balance of natural discomfort and lifeless throbs violate listeners’ equilibrium, setting us up for Bo’s Memphis//ATL composure as a lyricist.  

Speeding over the darkness he infuses as a producer, chopping to his bleak hi-hats, Bo captures a Southern demeanor on this track.  And since the South’s revival in the Eastern dialogue, we’ve heard a deepened interest in “geography-switching” from “our” artists.  Not to say that Bo can’t or shouldn’t explore this aspect of his artistry, just that it’s important to note a stylistic change that continues to hold true for rap as an art and culture.  Tracks like this continue to challenge the idea that where you’re from is relevant to the art you can create as a rapper.  And Bo isn’t faking it, here.  His work demonstrates how deeply-rooted artistic explorations have held as of late.  Brooklyn doesn’t have to drag timbos and sag Pelle Pelle.  BK can get trill.  BK can hit the Karate Chop flow.  BK can slur and sip and po’ up.  Bo’s just out here doin it to his own machine-gun metronome.
