Tumblr media
ok weeks later i am finally continuing my gwitch rewatch lolz. time for episode 12.... someone PLEASE tell tumblr to stop erasing my posts just as im about to hit post and not being able to undo it because i had the longest write up and now here i am.... rewriting again and trying to remember what i'd written. i'm gonna scream lmao
Tumblr media
this part feels so awful now that the series is over and thinking back on ep 24. miorine just comes to, all to see the doors closed and hear suletta's screams and sophie's gunshots on the other side. no doubt in my mind this girl probably dealt with awful nightmares about suletta dying after quiet zero
Tumblr media
i know prospera did use this as another XP level up for aerial, but jeez, imagine how much confidence she has in suletta and eri to be able to say something like this. like not just that suletta will go to aerial, but that together they can take on the attackers who at the time prospera didn't know shit about
lmao i dont think ive ever felt so confidently about something that id bet my whole life ln it
Tumblr media
ad stella universe is crazy because i can only think the big liberatarian ancap society is some silicon valley fascist's wet dream because how else do you explain the business management girl knowing 1337 hacker skills
Tumblr media Tumblr media
stupid asshole
Tumblr media
sophie and norea are such tragic characters to me goddamn. like how often were they practicing their piloting to be able to be good enough to join on a mission like this? were they upping their permet score during practice too?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and why exactly is it them who pilot the lfriths instead of someone else from DoF? we never really get a clear answer on why it has to be the teenage girls when later on we see there's a ton of grown men around. i think given what else we know of ad stella, though, it doesn't matter much when we have asticassia as a school for the elite that basically serves for furthering earthian oppression be it by force (ie. see guel's original plans for joining dominicus) or just continuing to further the spoils of space capitalism
when you think of it that way, i don't see DoF any different than say palestinians fighting back against oppression from IDF forces. unless you're a racist fuck, you can't blame palestinian kids for throwing rocks at IDF soldiers, so i can't really blame norea and sophie for joining the fight
to quote fanon:
National liberation, national renaissance, the restoration of nationhood to the people, commonwealth: whatever may be the headings used or the new formulas introduced, decolonization is always a violent phenomenon.
- Frantz Fanon, "Concerning Violence," The Wretched of the Earth
i really do wish they hadn't just sidelined DoF entirely lol if you subscribe even a smidgen to anti-colonialism, its hard not to sympathize with them and shaddiq/grassley girls. and here theyre actually fighting for a just cause and are deserving of sympathy unlike 0079’s fakeout with zeon.
flipping the UC spacenoid/earth dichotomy so that earthians are the exploited class is just good shit when you consider what fuckers like musk want to do lol and its not as set in stone as exploitation only happens on earth either. mercury sounds like an abandoned appalachian mining town at this point with people lured out by jobs and then left to fend for themselves once permet was found elsewhere and their utility to the spacian capitalist class has run dry. and though i take this one with a grain of salt because we never get hard confirmation or denial, the elans were supposedly spacians (norea calls him a spacian even after finding out el5n’s not the real elan and he doesnt say one way or the other).
Tumblr media
enough marxist ramblings, here's a cool shot of lfrith ur
Tumblr media Tumblr media
whoever added this, i love them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as much as i don't trust bandai with sulemio unless they reverse the mess they've made for themselves.... i just want to fucking know more about notrette so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
badass shot of lfrith thorn to go with the ur one earlier
Tumblr media
snitch boy starts his snitch arc
Tumblr media
the whole way guel killing vim plays out felt like it was gonna lead to something cool at the time... it makes me even more mad now knowing that it very likely is all an homage to zeta and kamille stealing the mk-ii and then later watching his mom die lol (ffs we even have the guel episode later on stealing its title from a zeta episode). guel's entire character just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth with everything thats happened recently
Tumblr media
to think that 15 mins later she'd just be all ditzy over pancakeing a man after basically peeing her pants here
Tumblr media
prospera shooting a gun at quiet zero >>> prospera shooting a gun at plant quetta
Tumblr media
this show and this fucking pose, man lmao
Tumblr media
AERIAL REBUILD is going to be stuck in my head all night because of this episode.... but look at how fucking cool she looks!!!
Tumblr media
okouchi if this is a line you wrote, you, sir, are a troll... her face now is literally just :<
Tumblr media
if you have the rebuild aerial and you don't have her posed like this, then what are you even doing?
Tumblr media
i still feel like secelia and rouji for sure had no idea how powerful aerial's gund-bit gun was in episode 17. like norea is scared shitless here and tells sophie and olcott to get the fuck away. we have olcott telling us that even though it has school regulations on, it's strong as fuck
that said, i don't think guel was in mortal danger given that the school restrictions don't let them aim at cockpits or whatever, but it sure would've fucked up the darilbalde
Tumblr media
oh this line hurts lol
Tumblr media
i don't think i ever paused on this frame before lol i really hope peil hags master plan here wasn't just to have el5n get all rapey like he does later on. i mean, probably not and that was moreso el5n's desparate attempts to stay alive given he barely gets a chance to do anything before school shootings 1 and 2 bring everything to shit
Tumblr media
comparing this frame versus suletta inside calibarn in ep 24 and suletta is still just a baby at this point in the show lmao she looks like a little teddy bear vs kakkoii ikemen suletta
Tumblr media
paused on this frame and it honestly looks cool as hell lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and we made it to THE scene
you know, as i said in prior rewatch posts, i had been watching via GJM's fansubs at this point and was gonna wait for them to release their version of episode 12... however, that same suletta sunday i logged on to twitter and immediately got spoiled on this scene lmao so i needed to find out what the fuck happened and stopped waiting on fansubs (i did rewatch later on)
it really is such an amazingly well done scene though like goddamn lol
now that the show's over, i do kind of wonder if there could have been something other than this to become the spark of tension between suletta and miorine. with the exception of sophie (which arguably was more eri's victim than suletta's), suletta never kills anyone again in the show. her final fight ends up being against the gund nodes being commanded by eri lol so she just fights unmanned drones. it's an interesting decision considering the gundam franchise as a whole
i know it's meant to contrast against shaddiq's by any means necessary approach and prospera's willingness to do the same if someone tries to hinder her plans to help eri... but i really just can't get behind the whole violence is always bad no exceptions message behind the show. i do appreciate that shaddiq's plan basically still came to fruition and that it ends up being an in-world analogue to nationalization of industry. and it's really a cherry on top to have sabina call out whether that was for the best - not just that they nationalized industry but that nothing else was done to stop those who don't agree with what miorine did. history has given us countless examples of countries that nationalize various industries just for the united states military to come in and make some shit up and stage a coup and hand over said industry to whatever shithead capitalists were being piss babies about it at the time
lmao i know we're all mad about a lot of the yuri being left on the table because of bandai execs, but i wonder how much of the anti-capitalist message got left on there too. they really had a chance to make guel a real hero and he's just... not lol. episode 15 makes me mad not because it's a guel episode but because nothing ever actually came from DoF existing. like what was the point?
if they just wanted to humanize DoF a bit and introduce the kid that guel and kenanji run into later on, that could have taken half an episode given the insane pacing they chose to go by during the 2nd cour
regardless, i'll still savor little bits here and there
ok lmao i feel like my original post was way better than this and it took me double the time now to make this post but whatever. gonna try to get through some more eps this weekend

BUISNESS BUISNESS BUISNESS BUISNESS
Tumblr media
I cannot overstate how much I love Ash and how much I loved that scene from episode 1
[Image Description: a digital drawing of Ash from Unprepared Casters, drawn from the waist up. She is a slim fire genasi with deep red skin, light blue eyes, and firey hair that goes down to her chin. She is wearing a dark blue pinstripe suit that has been cut into a crop top, and the sleeves are ripped off as well. She has a white shirt with a black tie under the suit jacket. She also has small black sunglasses. She is using a knife to point at a whiteboard covered in colorful charts, and also has "buisness buisness buisness" and "numbers numbers" written on it. END ID]

Spoilers for arc 12 episode 5
DM Gus Rachels is a such a big brained guy for utilizing his player’s other characters from other arcs reappear as opponents? That’s such a unique use of the structure of the show!!! Again, there is the caveat that the “antagonist” players play it easy, but with this group it seems that none of them are doing that.
Anyways excited for the next episode!

Finished watching a playthrough of Lost Judgment with the lads.
Random blurbs and thoughts will contain spoilers so more under cut!
1) i fucking love akutsu. dude is a super chad. him getting a selfie with kaito and yagami was so sus and shady. i love it. i love that he was soma’s muscle too. i was really hoping he would get some sort of redemption arc after getting beat down by yagami, but right after i fired off a tweet about it, he gets shot and killed so fuck that i guess
2) fuck dem kids. i do not care if they all changed for the good, it had to take soma kidnapping one of the bullies and the kid getting bullied for them to finally all change after one had already apologized. fuck them all. koda should have all kicked their asses at the end.
3) please for the love of god, give higashi his own game. it could be a random game or one about his backstory. there wasnt enough of him and i need more of him. fuck it, have yagami bring him on like kaito.
4) soma is a babe. he is so deliciously evil. he was really the final boss. idc about kuwana’s final boss battle. soma is the final boss, and you can’t convince me otherwise. you wanted to see him go down at the end, but oh my god i was rooting for the bad guy. he was great.
5) i need deets on the rk guy who greeted saori when she was uc. he a qt.
6) i am very conflicted about kuwana. i want to like him because he a qt and he’s pretty cool in general, but i also think he is a massive piece of shit for killing all those bullies. jury is still out on him.
7) i was going to do a “take a drink every time yagami says ‘sawa-sensei,’ and i’m glad i didn’t now
8) reiko deserves everything bad. fuck her. her being ride or die with kuwana and then selling him out when her son finally wakes up from his coma. fuck her and fuck kuwana for wanting to help her even after she sold him out.
9) love the callbacks to the yakuza games with mention of daigo, zhao making the group food when they go to visit tesso, and yagami going to kashmoney’s  kashwagi’s bar
10) fuck bando. he is an absolute skeeze and a dickbag. that’s all that needs to be said about him
11) give me more tesso. i hope he shows up in y8 or judgment 3. he’s great. i love him. give me more of him. give me more of him gushing over zhao too
12) all the boss themes are wonderful. yakuza/judgment game with good music, what else is new
13) this game is insanely violent and shows a lot of gruesome stuff. it being part investigation stuff, you expect it, but holy shit. first scene of the game, and you see the fire department and pd find a dead, decaying body and they show it and it’s swarmed with bugs and i almost threw up. yagami almost gets chopped in little bite size pieces and i was waiting for them to show anything violent with any of the grunts getting it instead.
14) i feel like they kinda left it open somewhat at the end. i hope they revisit kuwana in a later game.
15) the ending made me cry, so theres that
16) 10/10 game, would play it if i had a ps

Bad Karma? Abe's Assassination and the Moonies Jeff Kingston
 December 22, 2023 Volume 21 | Issue 12 | Number 5 Article ID 5814
The assassination of Abe Shinzo in July 2022 not only felled a political giant, but also, by October 2023, propelled the government to seek dissolution of the Unification Church (UC), known as the Moonies in the Anglophone world, because the gunman told police that he targeted Japan’s longest serving prime minister (2012–2020) due to his links with the church. This article traces the unlikely arc of dynastic links between one of Japan’s most powerful political families with a South Korean fundamentalist Christian group established by the self-proclaimed messiah Sun Myung Moon. The UC is infamous in Japan for controversial fundraising and recruiting methods in addition to conducting mass weddings. However, it was only in the summer of 2022 that the media drew back the veil on the UC’s extensive political connections with Japan’s long dominant Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), igniting a firestorm of public condemnation.
Yamagami Tetsuya, the gunman, told police, “I believed Abe was tied to the Unification Church. Nobusuke Kishi [Japan's Prime Minister from 1957 to 1960 and Abe’s grandfather] had brought the Unification Church to Japan. That’s why I killed him” (Tokumoto 2023). His mother donated the family fortune to the UC, leaving the household destitute. As a result, Yamagami became increasingly resentful about a descent from a comfortable life to a precarious existence. Armed with a homemade blunderbuss, he took revenge, managing to come up from behind Abe and shoot him at close range while he was campaigning for an LDP candidate. In a society where guns are tightly controlled and violent crime is uncommon, the nation was left shocked by Abe’s murder.
PM Kishida Fumio quickly announced there would be a state funeral to honor Abe, only the second for a post-WWII prime minister. Initially, there was strong public support for this initiative, but the mood quickly shifted as the media spotlighted the UC’s cozy ties with the LDP and its extensive record of coerced donations and dubious practice of ‘spiritual sales,’ charging exorbitant amounts for various ‘sacred’ objects ostensibly as atonement for ancestral sins. Suddenly a nation grieving Abe’s death discovered a hidden world where a notorious religious group held enormous influence in the corridors of power. The subsequent anti-Abe backlash was quick and widespread, fed by the UC revelations and extensive reporting about a series of cronyism scandals implicating Abe that slashed his approval rating to 34 per cent (NHK 2020) on the eve of his 2020 resignation (Nakano NYT 2020).
Clarifying his motive, Yamagami also told investigators about Abe’s upbeat video message of support in 2022 to the Think Tank Rally of Hope, an event hosted by the Universal Peace Federation, a UC affiliate founded by Moon in 2005; Abe was introduced there as an heir to the Kishi political dynasty (Asahi 2022a). Abe previously had sent congratulatory messages to this group in 2006 when he served as Chief Cabinet Secretary. This drew criticism, because by this time there was widespread public condemnation of the UC’s deceptive marketing schemes and many complaints about coerced donations. In response to the uproar, Abe’s office asserted that the telegram had been sent by mistake and that the person responsible was reprimanded.
Ironically, the South Korea-based UC enjoyed extensive influence in the Abe faction of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), a strange brew of clashing nationalisms given that Abe was advocating for historical revisionism, a rightwing political movement that promotes an exonerating and glorifying narrative of Japan’s shared past with Asia (Saaler 2022; Postel-Vinay 2023), while the UC was raising donations from Japanese by guilt-tripping them about Japan’s colonial rule in the Korean peninsula (1910–45). Abe’s unapologetic revisionism of denying, minimizing, and whitewashing this history triggered vilification in South Korea and bilateral relations sank to new lows on his watch. Anti-zainichi (Japan-born ethnic Koreans) sentiments escalated in Japan, stoked by a tabloid media taking its cues from the prime minister’s office (Schreiber 2016). In addition, when a jingoist organization called Zaitokukai marched through zainichi enclaves in Tokyo, spewing hate and brandishing discriminatory signs, Abe never repudiated such actions. His government was dilatory about curbing the hatemongering, demonstrating a high level of tolerance for intolerance (Guardian 2014). At that time, Abe encouraged LDP lawmakers to accept support from the UC, which had gained a higher profile among politicians in part due to its prominent lobbying since the 1980s in favor of a state secrets protection law aimed at clamping down on spying (Asahi 2022a). To that end, in 2013 Abe secured Diet approval of a Special State Secrets Law that also targeted whistleblowing and investigative reporting (Repeta 2014).
Given that the UC is a Korean group raising donations from Japanese by badgering them about Japanese colonial era misdeeds, how did it penetrate Japan’s conservative nationalist establishment as early as the 1960s? Such critical views of Japanese colonialism were awkward for Kishi, who had been directly involved with Tokyo’s exploitation of Asia 1931–45 (Samuels 2003), but he and Moon were committed anti-communists. During the Cold War, ideological common ground trumped nationalist grievances and anti-Korean prejudice, facilitating UC penetration of Japan’s elite political circles. These connections persisted into the 21st century, well after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Despite the end of the Cold War in Europe, its legacies remain prominent in contemporary Asia, where the Korean peninsula remains divided and the China/Taiwan standoff smolders. Moreover, the Japanese government is beset by strategic anxieties linked to communist states, namely the spectacular rise of China over the past few decades and North Korea’s nuclear missile program. Thus, there are still significant ideological bonds between the UC and the LDP. Equally important, the LDP until recently depended heavily on UC support staff in handing out leaflets, writing postcards for candidates, and manning the sound trucks that canvass neighborhoods during campaigns. The UC and LDP also share a common “family values” agenda, opposing women’s and gay rights. So, there are several factors that contribute to this strange bedfellow’s collaboration.
Kishi Connection Since Japan’s defeat in 1945 and the end of its colonial rule on the Korean peninsula, relations between Tokyo and Seoul have ranged from frosty to hostile due to unresolved historical grievances, territorial disputes, and the irreconcilable views of victims and perpetrators about the long shadow of their shared past. Relations were not normalized until 1965 and only then because Washington pressured both governments to do so. However, despite the $300 million in grants and $500 million in loans from Japan that jumpstarted South Korea’s economic miracle, there was no apology from Tokyo and no breakthrough on reconciliation (Ju 2020). Nonetheless, Kishi rolled out the red carpet for the UC.
