Portuguese Air Force Receives Two New Leonardo AW119 MkII Koala Utility Helicopters
The Portuguese Air Force (Força Aérea Portuguesa; FAP) has received two new Leonardo AW119 MkII Koala utility helicopters. The helicopters were officially received on 22 November at the Maneuver Airfield No1, in Ovar. The helicopters were delivered from Leonardo Helicopters in Italy. The two helicopters are the latest addition to the FAP's fleet of helicopters, which also includes AW101s and Super Lynx aircraft. The AW119Kx will provide greater versatility and performance compared to the current fleet of ageing single engine rotary wing aircraft, as well as an outstanding training capability for military crews before moving to the AW101, Super Lynx and other frontline types. The FAP has ordered a total of five AW119Kx helicopters from Leonardo. The first three helicopters were delivered in 2019 and 2020, and the remaining two helicopters are expected to be delivered in the near future. The helicopters are being used for a variety of missions, including search and rescue, utility, and personnel recovery. The Leonardo AW119 Koala, produced by Leonardo since 2016, is an eight-seat utility helicopter powered by a single turboshaft engine produced for the civil market. Introduced as the Agusta A119 Koala prior to the Agusta-Westland merger, it is targeted at operators favoring lower running costs of a single-engine aircraft over the redundancy of a twin. AgustaWestland promote the type as possessing excellent flight qualities with high levels of controllability, maneuverability and inherent safety. The design of the rotorcraft is derived from Agusta's earlier and highly successful A109 helicopter, differing primarily by being equipped with a single engine, a Pratt & Whitney PT6B-37A turboshaft engine, and using fixed skids in place of the A109's retractable wheeled landing gear arrangement. The AW119 shares the same cockpit and cabin of the AW109, along with commonality with various other systems, while costing roughly half of the latter's price tag.

I watch from the edge of one of Kalem's favourite flower beds as Arias and Kalem walk side by side through the paths that'd been dugout.

Like if a ray of his favourite colour was cast onto him to illuminate his joy and kindness, he glowed.
"Master," Kalem calls with an excited wave as he runs over to me. "Elven magic is amazing."
"Is it?" I question as I glance up to Arias who was pocketing his true form away to fit inside of his less daunting one. 
Kalem nods his head eagerly as he glances back at his friend.
"Arias did things t-that would make your mind go...go," he searches for the right word. "Go poof."
Kalem was sure to animate his words by raising his hands to his head and expanding them in a mock explosion.
"It just might," the Elf comments, though I heard the different meaning in his words.
He met my glare with one of his own before he gave Kalem a bright smile that made him seem bipolar.
"We'll continue where we left off tomorrow."
"Okay," Kalem agrees as he hugs his friend goodbye. 
When we're alone, Kalem turns back to me and raises his arms expectantly.
With a chuckle, I pick him up and make my way back into the castle with my beaming boy.
"So love, what did Arias teach you today?"
"Well there was a lot," Kalem starts as he culls his thoughts. "He told me about how Elven magic works and what it relies on, then he showed me a bit of it... which was a little scary Master."
"Scary?" I ask with a frown, I could hardly envision the Elf doing anything that would cause Kalem to fear him.
Leaning in until he had his mouth cupped against my ear, Kalem whispers as quietly as he could...
"He made his hand turn into dirt," he takes in a breath. "And the dirt into his hand."
Kalem pulls back to glance at the nearby vampires that explored the halls, trying to decipher if he'd been quiet enough.
I'd regrettably had to tell Kalem about vampires' hearing abilities before we had the first of our clan move in, so that he knew to be cautious with his words.
It was for the best but also saddening since he now knew that I heard his little mumblings and was trying to put a stop to them.

I wasn't sure if Kalem was describing it well but what he'd put in my mind was far more than odd.
But I had to be careful with my words when it came to Elves since Kalem was one of them.
He may end up mistaking it as judgement I was casting on him and he'd come way too far for me to mess it up with negligence.
"It was weird," Kalem says with a nod. "But then he put my face into the rock and it was soooo pretty Master."

I'd have to get Kalem to explain it better when he wasn't so excited or I'd have to ask the Elf and I much preferred to ignore him where possible.
So I listened to Kalem talk, his amber eyes almost glowing with his joy as he described his day for me.
It wasn't even seven yet but Kalem was a bustling ball of energy that I knew wouldn't be simmering down any time soon.
From what I'd been told by a few pleased vamps, he apparently had already promised tours for them, starting today.
And though that didn't seem to be on his mind right now, I knew the second he remembered, he'd be off.
I wanted to be upset that he wouldn't be with me through the day, the night had been dreadful enough without his warmth in my arms but I knew how much good this would do him.
The boy I'd found almost a year ago would not have been able to spend even a few minutes from my side without panicking, but now, he could do that and a lot more.
I didn't need to worry about him being without me for the day, my lover was strong enough to stand on his own two feet and what a gorgeous thing that was.
"Master, you're not listening," Kalem whispers, his excitement slipping from him.
I quickly press a kiss to his lips to snatch a portion of that sadness away.
"I'm sorry love, I was thinking about you."
Kalem seems to falter at that, not sure if he was upset that I wasn't listening to him entirely or pleased that I was lost in thoughts surrounding him.
With each day, Kalem grew more possessive of me, and with each day, I came to love him even more for it.
"Okay," Kalem says with narrowed eyes. "That's okay Master but I was telling you something really important."
"Can you tell me again?" I ask as I reach my study. "I'm sorry for not listening to you the first time, I promise I am now."
Kalem only pouts for a moment more, trying to stay mad but his smile was breaking free from him by the time I had us settled in my chair.
Shifting in my lap until he's straddling me, Kalem rests both his hands onto my shoulder as if to prep himself for what he had to say.
"I was saying that Arias said that some Elven creatures could fly," Kalem says with sparkling eyes. "He said they were the types born with wings like dragons and something called griffons. B-But I was thinking, what if the form that's hidden away from me has wings, Master." Kalem squeals just a little. "What if they're sparkly."
I say the words I knew he wanted to hear but was too afraid to even entertain in his own head.
"Then you'd be a bit like a pixie wouldn't you?"
A full-fledged scream erupted from him this time as Kalem popped from my lap and to another point in the room.
It was quickly becoming a habit of his to loosen the reigns of his control when he was excited.
I watch him go with amused chuckles, trying my best to keep track of him.
Kalem had wings, that wasn't something I doubted.
As a Nyphilim, he should've been born with them, the Elf had hinted to that much through our many conversations.
And though his true form was hidden from even himself, I was sure there'd be wings there still.
The way Kalem took to the temporary ones he'd had in the pixie realm showed that he was born for them.
The only reason the elf hadn't shared his thoughts about the wings to Kalem was to avoid placing hope somewhere that might sprout disappointment instead.
In the case that he didn't, it'd be better for him if he wasn't expecting to unlock them in the first place.
But I still prayed silently that he did have them, it would make him happier than I could probably imagine.

Evaluations at the USAF Special Air Warfare center at Eglin AFB pointed to the existing T-37 Tweet (so named because of the high pitch of its engines), a two engine jet trainer from Cessna, as having potential. In 1963, a contract was awarded to Cessna to modify two T-37s as prototypes for the new aircraft. The changes to these YAT-37D would include:
*Stronger wings.
*Three stores pylons on each wing.
*Larger wingtip fuel tanks of 95 US gal capacity.
*A General Electric GAU-2B/A 7.62mm machine gun, with a rate of fire of 3,000 rounds/minute and 1,500 rounds of ammunition. A gunsight and gun camera were also fitted.
*Better avionics for battlefield communications, navigation, and targeting.
*Tougher landing gear for rough-field operation.
*Replacement of the Continental J69 engines with higher power GE J85-J2/5 jets.

YAT-37A-1 first flew in October 1964, with #2 flying the following year. The second prototype differed from the first in having four pylons per wing rather than three. The first prototype was later modified to the same configuration, and the eventual production aircraft also featured a total of eight pylons. Interest in COIN aircraft cooled for a time, but losses of the Douglas Skyraider reignited the USAF's push for a dedicated plane. A contract was awarded to Cessna to convert 39 T-37Bs, creating AT-37Ds. The second YAT-37D, which had been turned over to the USAF Museum, was pulled out of storage and returned to flying condition. Recognizing that the Dragonfly was quite different from the Tweet, the designation was later changed to A-37A.

SUPER TWEET
Under Operation COMBAT DRAGON, 25 A-37As were shipped to Vietnam for combat evaluation in 1967. Based at Bien Hoa Air Base, Dragonflies participated in USAF "air commando" missions: close air support (CAS), helicopter escort, forward air control (FAC) and night interdiction. An A-37A could carry 2,700lbs of bombs, rockets, napalm or gun pods, in addition to its own gun. To extend the aircraft's range or loiter time, two drops tanks could be carried on the innermost pylons. During FAC missions, the A-37 would have a crew of two, pilot and observer, while other missions would only have a pilot, allowing an increased fuel and/or weapons load. Although officially named Dragonfly, many pilots, familiar with the aircraft's older brother from their training days, called it the Super Tweet. Over thousands of Combat Dragon sorties, no A-37s were lost to enemy fire, though two were destroyed in landing accidents.

Though successful, Combat Dragon did highlight some flaws with the A-37A, chiefly a lack of power, limited range and endurance, the vulnerability of its flight controls and the effort required to move them during combat maneuvers. Cessna had already been awarded a contract for 57 improved A-37Bs, and these complaints were being addressed in the new plane. The A-37Bs were all new-build aircraft, with reinforced airframes now capable of pulling 6 Gs in combat as opposed to the 5 G limit of the A-37A. Crew survivability had been addressed by adding armored ejection seats and flak curtains in the cabin, as well as self-sealing fuel tanks in the wings. Redundant flight controls were also added, as well as being power-boosted to reduce the effort needed. The aircraft were fitted with uprated J85-GE-17A engine, allowing for higher speeds as well as more fuel or weapons to be carried. Since pilots during Combat Dragon had found that shutting down one engine improved endurance, the engines on the A-37B were angled slightly downward and outward to improve handling when cruising on a single jet. The B model also added aerial refueling capacity, though unusually for an Air Force plane it was fitted with a Navy-style probe-and-drogue rather than the USAF-style flying boom and receptacle. The new model also had upgraded avionics, a redesigned instrument panel, revised landing gear, and automatic deicing equipment. The Dragonfly was relatively low-maintenance, requiring only 2 hours of work per flight hour. This was partially due to the aircraft's low stance, as well as though-out access panels for major systems. Payload for the A-37B was increased to 5,800lbs. The 7.62mm gun was retained from the A, but external pods for 20mm and 30mm cannon were tested, but not adopted for combat.

In addition to the USAF, the A-37B was also acquired by the RVNAF, who purchased 254. The Dragonfly was found to excel at CAS, its slow speed allowing more accurate delivery of weapons compared to faster fighter-bombers like the F-105 and F-4. By the end of the Vietnam War, A-37s had flown more than 150,000 combat sorties, with only 22 losses. Nearly 120 RVNAF Dragonflies were captured by the North Vietnamese during 1975, and were pressed into service against the South. After the Fall of Saigon, they were used by the Vietnam People's Air Force in missions against Cambodia and China, as well as being shipped to allied nations like Poland and the USSR. In the USAF, the A-37Bs were passed from TAC to Air Force Reserve and ANG units. In the 1980s, they were replaced in the CAS role by the A-10 Thunderbolt II, and were redesignated OA-37B and assigned to FAC roles. The last combat service for the USAF's OA-37B was during the 1989 Operation JUST CAUSE in Panama.

Ex-USAF A-37Bs saw wide export to Central and South America in the '70s and '80s, seeing service in the air forces of Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru and Uruguay. Surplus Dragonflies were also supplied to South Korea and Thailand. Export customers liked the Dragonfly for its low cost and ease of operation compared to more complex aircraft like the F-16 or other 4th generation strike fighters. In Colombian service, the A-37 was modified to carry GBU-12 500lb laser guided bombs.

Political Participation – Article 6 Of The Declaration

Article 6 of the Declaration reads: “Reaffirming women’s rights to political participation on the basis of sex.”
Article 6 covers women’s “access to voting rights, eligibility for election, participation in the formulation of government policy and its implementation, the holding of public office, performance of all public functions, and participation in non-governmental organizations and associations concerned with public and political life.”
Historically, women have been excluded from political positions and public life on the basis of being female. Although women enjoy a greater level of equality now, discrimination and inequality still persist for those who choose to work in political spheres. This makes it necessary to amplify women’s voices and ensure that they have equal representation.
“Gender identity” vs Sex in Article 6
Women have fought hard over decades to have an equal voice in politics and a right to political participation. But the progress that has been made is under threat by the introduction of “gender identity” as a protected characteristic alongside sex.
Though measures like participation quotas and anti-discrimination laws help to increase women’s involvement in political life, the introduction of “gender identity” in law affects women’s abilities to participate.
This is because “gender identity” presents an inherent contradiction to sex: it’s impossible to protect women’s sex-based rights and opportunities when the definition of sex is expanded to allow self-identification with the opposite sex. When the definition of sex include “gender identity,” sex becomes a meaningless term.
The inclusion of “gender identity” as a protected characteristic in law represents a clear violation of women’s rights when it comes to participation in politics. A man, no matter how he identifies, can never be an effective voice for the concerns of women and girls.
This is because members of the male sex, men do not and cannot experience the sex-based discrimination and oppression that women and girls face on a routine basis due to their female bodies.
Women’s Rights to Political Participation
“Gender identity” policies effectively shut women out of political participation and keep their concerns from being represented in what historically has been a male-dominated sphere of public life. If men are allowed to take positions away from women simply by “identifying as a woman” this ensures that women’s voices cannot be heard.
One example of a man taking a political position away from a woman is Emilia Decaudin, who ran for the 37th AD “Female State Committee Member” position and “Female District Leader” 37A position in the New York state government. His opponent was an African American woman, Corinne Haynes-Woods. Decaudin beat Haynes-Woods, and was successfully elected to the position.
Even though the 37A district had a specifically designated spot for Female District Leader, they ended up with two males occupying both district leader positions. This effectively shunned a female voice, not to mention a woman of color’s voice, from representing the female residents of the district.
Furthermore, the case of Decaudin also shows the homophobia inherent in men who claim a female “gender identity.” Decaudin calls himself a lesbian. But as a man, Decaudin is unable to be a voice for the lesbian community because as a member of the male sex, he cannot understand the struggles that lesbians face.
Lesbians are already an underrepresented and marginalized community. By occupying the position of Female District Leader in the New York state government, Decaudin has taken away the opportunity for lesbians to have their voices heard in the district.
Participation in Non-Governmental Organizations and Associations
Article 6 also covers women’s participation in non-governmental organizations and associations. Men are taking away roles of influence specifically designated for women in these types of organizations as well.
For example, a man named Catherine Fitzpatrick occupies the head of Women’s Studies at Rutger University. Fitzpatrick claims to, “represent marginalized communities,” despite being a white man in a position of influence that otherwise could have been occupied by a woman.
Despite teaching Women’s Studies, as a man Fitzpatrick has no understanding of the uniquely sex-based oppression and discrimination that women and girls endure on the basis of our female bodies.
And as a man, he is occupying a position that could have amplified a woman’s voice, especially when academia still tends to be male-dominated. According to the Brookings Institution, in 2016 women represented only 26% of tenured professors.
Another example of men taking away roles meant for women is when Caitlin Jenner was named Woman of the Year by Glamour, despite being a man. Instead of celebrating a woman and her achievements and providing a chance for a woman to have her voice heard, Glamour chose to give this position of influence to a man.
Preserving Women’s Rights to Political Participation
Women have historically faced exclusion from political and public life, on the basis of their female bodies. In many parts of the world, this is still the case. Women in the U.S. fought hard to have voting access, the right to hold public office, and equal representation in politics.
But now that the definition of the word woman is being expanded to include “anyone who identifies as a woman,” the sex-based protections and measures designed to get more women involved in this area of society effectively no longer exist.
The idea that men who claim a female “gender identity” are equally if not more oppressed than women, and therefore deserve to occupy positions of influence meant for women, is a threat to all the progress women have made in the fight for sex-based rights.
Lawmakers across the U.S. must uphold the definition of sex in law and legislation, and ensure that bills seeking to expand the definition to sex to include “gender identity” do not become law.
They must also ensure that women’s concerns are heard, especially when it comes to laws that uniquely impact them, and that women are equally represented in public office.

The Gulfstream V (Model GV, pronounced "G-five") is a long-range, large business jet aircraft produced by Gulfstream Aerospace, derived from the previous Gulfstream IV. It flies up to Mach 0.885 (508 kn; 940 km/h), up to 51,000 feet (16,000 m) and has a 6,500 nmi (12,000 km) range. It typically accommodates four crew and 14 passengers.
