Palestinians protest outside Turkish airbase housing US troops

On Sunday, hundreds of people at a pro-Palestinian rally attempted to storm the airbase where US troops were stationed.

This came hours before US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Ankara for talks on the Gaza Strip.

Protests erupted across Turkey since the outbreak of the military conflict between Israel and Hamas. As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsened, the country intensified its condemnation of Israel, supporting the two-state solution.

Earlier this week, the IHH Humanitarian Aid Foundation, an Islamist Turkish aid agency, organised a convoy to travel to Incirlik airbase in southern Turkey to protest Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and US support for Israel. The foundation called for the closure of Incirlik, which also housed US troops.

Comfort them, Lord, in this disaster. Be their rock when the earth refuses to stand still, and shelter them under Your mercy when homes no longer exist.

Forgive those who died so suddenly. Console the hearts of those who mourn, and ease the pain of bodies on the brink of death.

Pierce, too, our hearts with compassion, we who watch from afar, as the poorest on that side of the earth find only misery upon misery.

Move us to act swiftly this day, to give generously every day, to work for justice always, and to pray unceasingly for those without hope.

And once the shaking has ceased, the images of destruction have stopped filling the news, and our thoughts return to life's daily rumblings, let us not forget that we are all Your creation and they, our brothers and sisters. TURKIYE'S PRESIDENT ERDOGAN SLAMS US VETO OF SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION CALLING FOR CEASEFIRE IN GAZA, CALLS FOR REFORM OF SECURITY COUNCIL

Turkiye's President, Racep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking on Saturday, called for the reform of the United Nations Security Council, and said the United States was standing in the way of a ceasefire in Gaza.

Erdogan reiterated his call to reform the UN Security Council where yesterday the United States used it's permanent seat on the Council to veto a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip where nearly two months of incessant bombing has killed approximately 17'500 Palestinian civilians and injured another 46'000 since October 7th.

"Due to a veto by the US, no decision was reached. It is essential for the UN Security Council to be reformed,” the Turkish President said.

"We have lost our hope and expectation from the UN Security Council."

"Since Oct. 7, the UN Security Council, whose mission is to establish global peace, has turned into a protector of Israel," Erdogan said.

Israeli Occupation Forces resumed their heavy bombing and shelling of residential neighborhoods in the Gaza Strip on December 1st after a breakdown in negotiations failed to renew a short truce between the Israeli occupation and Hamas, which had taken effect beginning November 24th.

Erdogan further stressed that the Israeli occupation is committing atrocities and massacres inside Gaza that shame all of humanity with the full backing and support of the United States, and said that the "butchers of Gaza" must be held accountable "sooner or later".

Erdogan said that a fair world is possible, but not while the United States is siding with Israel, and added that the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights is being blatantly violated in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Turkey’s Ministry of National Defence claimed to have “neutralised” 26 more PKK militants

Turkish security forces have “neutralised” 26 more PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) fighters in northern Syria and Iraq, the country’s national defence ministry reported on Monday.

According to preliminary findings, at least 26 terrorists were neutralized in airstrikes targeting terrorist elements in the northern regions of Iraq and Syria on December 23, 2023.

National Defence Minister Yasar Guler claimed on Sunday that the number of those “neutralised” after military operations in the Claw-Lock area of northern Iraq had risen to 30.

Following Friday’s PKK attack that killed 12 soldiers, Turkish airstrikes destroyed dozens of targets in northern Iraq and Syria. Some 56 militants have been “neutralised” due to the latest action.
