like I get the site needs money to run, hence "ad-free tumblr" and "tumblr store" and "blazed posts" and all the other money making stuff they've already rolled out...

but putting a banner at bottom of screen telling us you can see when we're using an ad blocker maybe isn't it and maybe kinda feels invasive when people install stuff like ad blockers and privacy extensions because we didn't like how websites/corporations could see and track what we were doing... just saying.

Paying for Tumblr ad-free should come with the ability to opt out of brand integrations, not just in-dash ads.

Cancelled my ad-free tumblr due to Tumblr not being able to control their CEO. This truly is Elon Musk-type behavior. If it wasn’t so disgusting, such as Matt literally following users to different platforms, if Matt had Listened To His Lawyers And Shut His Damn Pie Hole, things would not be a volatile as they are now.

Personally, I think a CEO does have an obligation to their employees to ensure they are safe and yeah, death threats aren’t cool. Yes, even if the threat seems insignificant or like someone’s bad creative writing project, a professional boss should still care about the safety of their employees. We all know that as tumblr users we have been desensitized to threats, and they are seen as part of tumblr culture, but to an outsider, to courts, this tumblr culture Will Not Matter. It can and will make things worse for us, especially those of us who are marginalized, to be taken seriously.

All this is to say, Matt should have let lawyers handle this, all of this. I cannot in good faith continue to give money to a website that will fund a man like this. I don’t like people who don’t listen to their legal counsel, and I think that these people should not be this in charge of something so important.

So, I will be on tumblr mobile for a while more since my ad-free just went through for the month (literally the day before all this started💀), and then after that I am switching to desktop only.

I will reinstate ad-free once Matt is no longer CEO of Automattic or if Tumblr is sold

The new Tumblr ads look like they were made on geocities and it gives me life

Hello tumblr users. Here is how to block top-of-the-page video ads.

step 1: download uBlock Origin. hopefully you are already using this.

step 2: click the extension icon to open the panel, and click the gears icon. when hovered it should read "show the dashboard"

step 3: at the bottom of the file that opens, add this line:

www.tumblr.com##.fSAfy

step 4: reload tumblr. the ad should be gone

The worst tumblr ad I've ever found. Objectionable on every level.

Not because of the content, though I don't love gambling being peddled on the hellsite, but because of 2 AWFUL things.

AWFUL thing 1: the ad autoplays noise. A few chimes and some shuffling as the cups move. This keeps playing when you scroll away so I had no idea where the noise was coming from.

AWFUL thing 2, the worse thing: Once that ad has autoplayed through while you're scrolling around trying to find the source of the noise, it automatically opens a tab in your web browser for their fucking ad. It navigates you away from tumblr without your knowing.

@staff need to get this shit off my dashboard. I can deal with the fucking pikachu man. I can deal with the ugly shoelaces. But this is too far.
