The best way tumblr could monetize would be to create a marketplace tab. Let people sponsor posts for it that promote their commissions and bandcamps and etsy shops and whatnot. There is a real dearth of places to promote indie art these days, especially with twitter dying.

It would be a good revenue stream for tumblr, a way for creatives to get their content promoted, and would actually be a fun place to look for new music or crafts or art ect for the rest of us.

Like… I want to find cool bands and handmade gifts and new books and things like that, and if there were a little feed where I could specifically check that stuff out, I’d be down with that sort of being marketed to.

So I was just watching Strange Aeons new vid about the tumblr Blaze Feature this morning during breakfast, and something very clever about it occurred to me: you can’t see Blazed posts if you’re using an unmodified ad-blocker(I mean: presumably you can find the Blaze element and unblock that specifically, and you’d be fine but shushshushshush: Give Me a Second Alright?!?).

So: Blaze isn’t JUST a way to monetize aspects of tumblr users enjoy; it’s also a very subtle, no pressure, all-upside-way to ENCOURAGE users to stop using adblockers on tumblr; if you don’t, you can’t be randomly cursed by other users, afterall. And they released it After releasing a no-ad subscription feature, which(OK this next part’s just assumption I could be wrong about it) presumably still shows, or allows you to enable, Blazed posts; also-also making it an even-subtler way to encourage users to buy subscriptions!

I love Tumblr because nothing matters here truly. There are no influencers. Having followers doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a site where people post their sporadic thoughts and rb pretty pictures. Anyone who thinks any of this matters is woefully missing the point

#I joined tumblr for the aesthetics and now I’m here bc it’s the most low pressure social media to be on #Instagram is ppl’s highlight reel but Tumblr is where u see their pure thoughts unobstructed and I adore that #It’s very nice to have people to relate to and is def the main appeal to me but I don’t think there’s much more to it than that genuinely #Monetization on tumblr isn’t a thing and probably won’t be so it feels stupid to put more stake than necessary in it. Embarrassing #I know chronically online people exist bc I have seen them in my or somebody else’s inbox but imagine waking up at 70 one day and the #Realization hitting u like a freight time that u wasted all ur time thinking tumblr.
