Results and Discussion
Most Kissing Pairs Per Show
The shows with the most different kissing pairs are:
Warp Effect (15 different pairs)
Friendzone (11 different pairs)
U-Prince (9 different pairs)
The Player and The Jungle (7 different pairs each)
Only Friends (5 different pairs)
Not Me and 3 Will Be Free have 4 each, then Mama Gogo, Moonlight Chicken, P.S. I Hate You, Theory of Love, and Three Gentlebros have 3 different kissing pairs each.
The Power of Jojo
As discovered in the first iteration, Jojo has an outsized impact on the number of kissing pairs.
He directed roughly 13% of all the shows analyzed but his shows contain about 33% of kisses present in the data set. Jojo also directed 4 of the top 6 shows with the most different kissing pairs (and 6 of the top 13).
Tumblr media
The median number of "different kissing pairs per show" of a Jojo show is 6.0, compared to a median of only 1.8 "different kissing pairs per show" in non-Jojo shows.
Tumblr media
(note: I am just looking at kissing pair iterations here not at unique kissing pairs, e.g., Phuwin/Pond are a pair in two shows (once in a Jojo show and once in a non-Jojo show), so they are counted twice.)
Most Kissing Partners
There has been a shift in the rankings... Welcome Joss to the top!
Tumblr media
Top ranked are Joss with 10 different kissing partners, then Lee and Namtan with 9 different kissing partners each, then Ohm and Nanon with 7 each.
Next are Gigie and Singto with 6 kissing partners each, then Bright, Film, First, Fluke Pusit, Jan, Krist, Mild, New, and Off with 5 each. Finally, Drake, Fah, Neo, Plustor, Tay, and Win have 4 each.
The average number of kissing partners per actor is 2.3.
Most Kissing Partners in One Show
We have four people tied for "Most Kissing Partners in One Show," and they are from only two different shows. A round of applause for Plustor (4 different kissing partners in Friendzone) and for Fluke Pusit, Gigie, and New (each with 4 different kissing partners in Warp Effect)!
Honorable mentions to: Joss (3 in The Player AND 3 in 3 Will Be Free), Namtan (3 in The Player), Neo (3 in Only Friends), and Singto (3 in Friendzone).
Please note all of these shows are Jojo shows.
The Kiss Web
Behold... the Kiss Web:
Tumblr media
I made this to better visualize the intertwined who-kisses-who situation going on. It's, uh... a lot.
I also made some fun visual breakdowns to help sort through the mess of the Web:
First image below highlights "kissing triangles" and "squares" (shout out to the 3 Will Be Free trio of Joss, Mild, and Tay; the Friendzone trio of Nat, Plustor, and Singto; and the Warp Effect triangle of Fluke Pusit, Gigie, and New and square of Fah, Gigie, Joong, and New, all of which were established over the course of one show each - yes these are all Jojo shows).
The second image highlights the reach of the top 5 kissers.
The third image shows the incredible kissing webs of Warp Effect (in red) and Friendzone (in blue), the two shows with the most kissing pairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unique vs. Repeat Kissing Pairs
The vast majority of kissing pairs only occur once, in one show. There are 136 "unique" kissing pairs in the data set, with 128 (94%) only appearing once, in one show, and 8 (6%) pairs appearing at least twice.
Tumblr media
The 8 pairs that appear in more than one show are:
Book/Force (in A Boss and A Babe, Enchante, and Only Friends)
Bright/Win (in 2gether and Still 2gether)
Dunk/Joong (in Hidden Agenda and Star In My Mind)
Earth/Mix (in A Tale of Thousand Stars, Cupid's Last Wish, and Moonlight Chicken)
Film/Gun (in Not Me and Three Gentlebros)
First/Khaotung (in The Eclipse and Only Friends)
Gun/Off (in Not Me and Theory of Love)
Louis/Neo (in The Eclipse and Fish Upon The Sky)
All these pairs, with the exception of Film/Gun, are BL branded pairs, which says something about the variety of the het GMMTV show world and about the structure of the BL system.
All in all, 99% of mixed gender pairs only appear once, in one show, compared to 88% of same gender pairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Same Gender vs. Mixed Gender Kissing Pairs
A change in the data! With all the new kisses we've gotten in, the balance has shifted. Of the 136 "unique" (non-repeated) kissing pairs, 59% are mixed gender pairs and 41% are same gender pairs.
Tumblr media
Last time we were at 59% same gender kisses and 41% mixed gender kisses, but our sample includes more het shows now which explains the shift.
I dug into this a little further by looking at how many shows featured both same and mixed gender kissing pairs, and which shows featured only one or the other.
Tumblr media
43% of the shows had only same gender kissing pairs, 39% of the shows had only mixed gender kissing pairs, and only 18% of shows featured both. All in all, a fairly even split.
I was curious so I did the math - about 34% of the 112 actors I looked at have only ever kissed someone of the same gender. Of that 34%, roughly 32% have kissed more than one person of the same gender (representing about 11% of the full sample).
And now, some burning questions...
Which of the GMMTV boys has kissed the most guys?
We have a five-way tie for first place: congrats to First, Fluke Pusit, Neo, Plustor, and Singto, with 4 men kissed each!
Tumblr media
First kissed Gawin (Not Me), Khaotung (The Eclipse and Only Friends), Mix (Moonlight Chicken), and Ohm (The Shipper)
Fluke Pusit kissed Jay Jatuporn (Warp Effect), New (Warp Effect), Ohm Thipakorn (A Boss and A Babe), and Thor (Warp Effect)
Neo kissed Drake (Only Friends), Force (Only Friends), Louis (Fish Upon The Sky and The Eclipse), and Mark Pakin (Only Friends)
Plustor kissed AJ (Friendzone), Arm (Friendzone), Nat (Friendzone), and Singto (Friendzone) [he was very busy in Friendzone]
Singto kissed Krist (SOTUS), Nat (Friendzone), Ohm (HCTM), and Plustor (Friendzone)
Second place is a five-way tie between Earth, Gawin, Khaotung, Krist, and Ohm who have kissed 3 men each!
There are also 13 men who have kissed two men each: Chimon, Dunk, Force, Gun, Mek, Mix, Nat, New, Papang, Pawin, Phuwin, Pod, and Tay.
*Note: while First and Fluke Pusit appear together in The Shipper, and it gets verrrry close, they do not actually kiss.
Where does Only Friends stand so far?
Only Friends itself is at 5 kissing pairs so far, which is higher than average but only 5th place overall among shows. I believe it can claw its way up easily though (it only needs two more kissing pairs to catch 4th places The Jungle and The Player)!
First has had 5 kissing partners so far which means he's only 2 away from reaching the top 5 Kissers (Joss has 10 kissing partners, Lee and Namtan have 9 each, Nanon and Ohm have 7 each). Neo is at 4 kissing partners, so also within reach of the top if he puts some effort in. Khaotung is at 3 partners, so within reach of the upper echelon but maybe more of a stretch. Force and Mark Pakin are at a respectable 2 partners each so far but Book has only had one kissing partner so he is going to need to kiss a lot to make up some ground. Lookjun is at 2 so she has room to move too.
In terms of gay kisses, First and Neo are already at the top of the leader board with 4 men kissed each, while Khaotung sits in respectable second place with 3 men kissed. All three have a strong chance of moving up the standings (Neo is averaging 1 new kissing partner a week so let's see if that continues). Force has kissed two men so he is not far off either. Mark Pakin and Book have only kissed one man each and thus they are far down the leader board for GMMTV men who have kissed men, but I remain optimistic.

ch.1 + ch.2 + ch.3 + ch.4 (final) + alt. ending
Leaving behind the person you love the most was like ripping your heart out of your chest bare handed. When you boarded the plane that took you miles away from Bakugou’s sleeping figure, you left your heart there beside him, broken and tattered. It was up to him whether he would try to reassemble the pieces, and up to you whether you would want it back. You had both made so many mistakes and waited so long that you were in the worst situation imaginable, and really, you weren’t sure it was possible to pull back from that. You needed to understand yourself again. You needed to choose what you wanted, and so did he.
You would be lying if you said you hadn’t been petrified to find out his answer.
The first six months of being away had been incredibly hard, the pain still fresh in your chest, the world continuing to spin while you fell apart. Simple tasks felt too hard to do some days because all you wanted was to cry. You wanted him, but wanted to be away from him all at the same time. You’d see him in everything you did and life felt like a challenge, because you now knew what it was like to hear him say he loved you too, and somehow that made it worse.
You heard through Todoroki the day after you left that Bakugou had broken things off with Camie. Though you felt guilty, the bubble of hope for the future that formed formed in your chest was unignorable.
He would call you every night those months, even though you never answered. You needed time but he didn’t want it, he would say he was trying but the messages waiting in your inbox every evening said otherwise. You’d listen to his voicemails in your too small bed, focusing on how his voice would quiver when he whispered how much he missed you. How badly he wished you’d talk to him. How much it hurt when he woke up and you weren’t there, like it’d all been a cruel dream that taunted him.
He’d fill the messages with admitting how stupid and wrong he had been to put you both in the situation you were in. Sometimes when he got particularly upset, his messages would turn into ants about how angry he was at himself for fucking up something that could mean so much.
Part of you felt awful hearing his heart broken tone. You felt like you had done the worst thing imaginable to him, like you’d crushed his entirety to bits and pieces. You hated the way his voice would crack when his messages got particularly forlorn. You would picture the tears dripping off his cheeks and staining his eyes a bloodshot red and wanted to vomit.
The other part of you felt maddened by the guilt that grew when you listened to them. You weren’t the one in the wrong this time. You weren’t the one who hurt two people in the process of figuring out what you wanted, he was, even if it started out unintentionally. You had only been hurting yourself. You had both been stubborn, but he had brought someone else into the situation, and for that, you were angry. Because even though you weren’t together then, knowing he broke it off with a girl who loved him fully to try and finally have you made you feel like the scum of the earth. Camie didn’t deserve that, she may not have liked you but she was only a victim to the same thing you were: love.
It wasn’t til seven months in that you decided to start answering the calls. The first time you had, the way his mood soared made the dull ache in your chest fade. It was still there, the pain, the anger, the frustration with the whole situation, but being away had made it easy to miss the little things about him. Like how he smelled when he enveloped you in his embrace and filled your senses. Like how he would tease you over the littlest things til you got annoyed and he’d giggle like a toddler.  Like the way he made you feel even when you were the saddest you’ve ever been.
Hearing his voice every night had become your routine, going to work teaching piano lessons at the local theater, eating a badly cooked ramen dinner, and laying in bed to talk to Bakugou. The conversations slowly went from quiet and filled with little confessions of pain, to laughing at his stories about life back home. You heard all about how he broke his toe with a can of beets and Kaminari wouldn’t take him to the doctors. He told you how he tried to make himself those cookies he loved so much only to nearly burn his kitchen down and make Midoriya try instead.
He would listen to you tell him about the kids you were tutoring and beg to listen to the songs you were producing on the side. He would list all sorts of stupid things he wanted to buy for your ‘lame sounding’ apartment. You would hear the smile in his voice whenever you laughed at his ridiculous suggestions for living room furniture; like a bunch of plush toy grenades like the ones straight from his hero costume.
It was so easy to yearn for him, so simple to hear his voice every night and want to fall back into his arms. You knew that taking your time would be important, the healing couldn’t be rushed or you’d only end up falling back apart in the end. You needed the time to find yourself again without him there beside you clogging your brain. He needed time to completely move on from any feelings he had for Camie, because if you were going to give things a chance, you wanted to be the only one.
You weren’t sure you’d be able to survive getting heartbroken by him twice.
After about eight months, the phone calls didn’t feel like enough. You were starting to heal, starting to let yourself be happy without him there beside you holding you up. You felt like you could breathe again, no longer stuck still in a place of torture. You were feeling like you again and all that was missing was the boy whose late night phone calls had been joined by constant texts throughout your days.
He had realized you needed space after asking to come see you twice and you insisting you weren’t ready, and as hard as it was for him, he tried not to push it. You could tell it bothered him, especially when your birthday came and went and he wasn’t there to celebrate with you. It was hard for him, to watch you grow without him, but he was growing too. He had learned things about himself he didn’t like and regretted decisions he’d made in the past. He was trying to make up for them one by one, all so that when you finally let him back in, he’d never have to leave.
It wasn’t until month ten when the boys had a vacation near you that you decided you were ready to see Bakugou again. You’d been petrified, so so scared that the pain would come thundering back along with the self doubt the second you saw him again. Hearing his voice every night was one thing, but it was easy to make empty promises of wanting and missing through a device. You were terrified you’d made him wait to long, that the love you almost had simmered away with no chance of saving it and you just didn’t know it yet.
The moment you slipped into the hotel lobby and knocked on their room door, those fears had been squelched, his smiling face having thrown the door open and enveloped you in the most bone crushing hug the world had ever seen. It was like the feelings from before came rushing in, but without the bitter aftertaste that left you teary eyed and distraught. It was like waking up for the first time in months without having a nightmare prefacing it.
That night had felt surreal, watching him throughout with the biggest grin. The boys all showered you with love and hugs and Kaminari apologized about eighty times for not telling you about the previous situation sooner.  Bakugou was beside you every second he was in the room, his body pulled to yours like a magnet. You could tell he was having a hard time resisting the urge to hold onto you, but it meant a lot he was. You knew he wasn’t one for taking things at a low tempo and you were thankful he was trying not to rush you, even if he was itching to take the next step forward.
When he reluctantly hugged you goodbye at the end of the night, his hands lingered around your middle and his lips hesitantly pressed into your temple, whispering how much he’d missed you and how he couldn’t wait til you came back home. The simple fact that he still wanted you to think of home being where he was made your stomach do a leap, and you found yourself excited to return there as well.
It was nearly a year to the day when you moved back, Bakugou, Kaminari and Shindo all being forced to help you move your things into your new apartment. Bakugou had been so eager to get you back in town he’d been the one who came and toured it, face-timing you the entire time and showing you each and every corner, explaining all the things you could add to make it your own. He was especially happy it was just a few streets away from his own place.
The look on his face when you pulled him aside from the others and asked him to stay for dinner had been the most ecstatic look you’d ever seen. You knew why he was happy and so were you, because you were finally in the place where you were letting yourself feel it, the love you had for him. You didn’t want to hold it back anymore, your body bursting to hold him and touch him and tell him what he meant to you.
You could feel it every second of every day, in every move you made, everything came back to Bakugou. Your Bakugou Katsuki that swore between kisses that night that he’d never hurt you again. Your Bakugou Katsuki that repented for his mistakes and begged your forgiveness for ever being as dumb as he had been. Your Bakugou Katsuki that forgave you for being too scared to come forward because he had been as well, and none of it mattered now.
Another year passed with the season’s changing more each week. Your view from your apartment went from warm reds to subtle greys as the ground covered in white. By the time the snow melted and flowers started to bloom your view had changed from your small apartment, to a place all your own with Bakugou. He made you laugh every day and kissed you when you frowned. He would break into your showers and leave kisses along your spine while he washed away your stress. He took care of you when you were at your lowest and supported your every accomplishment like the proudest boyfriend in the world.
Waking up every morning beside was a gift, because just two years ago you felt like none of it could ever be possible. You had been at your lowest point in your life, the most shattered you had ever felt and depressed beyond belief. You’d almost lost him, you’d almost let the one person you needed slip away. You had come out better from the pain and landed in a dream that you never wanted to wake up from.
Which brought you to now, where your legs were tangled up in the sheets with your sleeping boyfriend, his hair a mess on the pillow and his cheeks smushed against the plush cushion. Your fingers were trailing light paths up and down his bare chest, eyes flickering between every little mole and freckle on his flushed skin. The way his lips curved slightly as he began to stir awake made your own smile spread, eyes drooping shut as you pretended to still be asleep.
You could feel his hands sliding around your waist as he tugged your body into his, legs completely encasing yours like a monkey. The puff of air he let out as he kissed your forehead made your hair flutter off of it, his lips puckering into a gentle kiss on the surface. His kisses trailed up to the top of your head, fingers creeping up under his shirt you’d stolen, before taking his claim on your lower back.
“I know you’re awake.” He whispered against your ear lobe in that raspy morning voice that drove you crazy. His lips brushed your skin as he chuckled into it, heartbeat thumping slowly in his relaxed state. The sun peeking through the windows warmed your bits of exposed skin, the warm patches making the room brighter. Your eyes flicked open as you pouted at him, adjusting so your palms rested against his chest, fingers just barely sliding over his shoulder blades.
“How could you tell?”
“Because I wasn’t asleep and could feel you touching me.” He grinned, laughing lightly at your eye roll and small smack to his chest.
“Don’t make it sound so creepy.”
“I can’t help it you can’t control yourself, I know I’m irresistible.” His laughing made you smack his chest again, trying to frown like you were annoyed. He adjusted the both of you, hands sliding to your hips as he maneuvered onto his back and pulled you on top of him. The sun cast a glow against his cheek at the angle, making your insides twist from how beautiful he looked.
Your hair was longer than it had been before, falling in a messy manner over your shoulders, the shirt you’d taken from him far too large on you and serving more as a dress than anything else. His hands slipped from your hips down to your bare thighs, thumbs rubbing circles into the skin as he held you in place on his lap, your knees bent on the sides. The blanket had pooled around your backside, making goosebumps rise from the sudden burst of cool air hitting your skin.
“You’re so damn beautiful.” The way his voice barely met your ears made your neck feel hot, his eyes soft and squinted slightly as they trailed over every inch of you. His eyebrows furrowed as his smile faded a minute amount, a heavy puff of air coming from his lips as he gripped you tighter. “I can’t believe I almost fucked up so bad I never got this. I was such an idiot.”
“We both messed up.” You clarified and let your fingers play with the waistband of his pitch black sweat pants, snapping them once against his pelvis.
“I messed up worse though. I did stuff that hurt people. I hurt you.”
There were still some days when you could picture him down on his knee proposing to Camie. There were still some nights when he’d be gone late training and the consuming frustration would try to rear it’s head again, but you loved him. You loved him, and he loved you, and you knew he was trying to be as good as he could be for you, to make up for his mistakes.
“It’s in the past Katsu, stop dwelling on it.”
“But I was such an idiot.”
“You’re always an idiot” You rolled your eyes at his persistence, cracking a smile when he started to whine at your statement. His hands found their way to your middle under the shirt, fingers attacking your sides as he sent you into a fit of laughter, your body falling forward onto his chest. In a quick movement he was on top of you, pinning you down with his  weight as he continued his tickle assault.
“Take that back, you little brat!” His own voice was laced with laughter as his eyes shrunk into those half moons you so loved, your own eyes watering and spilling over. Your body was squirming underneath him, your legs tangling between his longer ones, blankets twisting around your lower halves.
“I take it back!’ You gasped, tears gliding down your temples from how hard your laughter was, hands desperately gripping his biceps to try and make him stop.
“Now say you love me.”
“I love you! I love you!” Your laughter bellowed out as his hand stopped moving at your side, the other slipping around your neck and behind the pillow as he buried his head into your shoulder. His laughter was contagious, your happiness mixing and filling the air as he rustled so he was held up by his elbows above you. Your laughter died down finally as you locked eyes, his lips softening into a gentle expression.
“Marry me then.”
“What?” You asked, eyes widening as he leaned back to sit up, your own body following suit, crossing your legs as you watched him. Between his fingers sat a simple ring, no fancy diamond, no brightly colored flashy things, just a simple white gold band with a B carved inside.
“Not right now,” He clarified as his hand grabbed for yours, lifting it up to his lips and pressing a kiss to each and every knuckle as he spoke, “but someday, when we’re both ready.”
The earnest look on his features made you melt, nodding as he slipped the delicate ring into its proper home on your finger. He kissed the surface of it, making a silent promise to not lose you this time.
The pair of you had been through every emotion. You’d been through the pain of loving someone that didn’t love you back how you wanted. You’d been through the anguish of feeling the other slipping away. You’d experienced the distance that lingered when you were apart, and now finally you were feeling the bliss of becoming one. And it was indescribable.
“Gosh I hate your hair.” You snorted after a few silent but meaningful moments, reaching forward and twirling a strand of his awful bedhead of spiky, blonde hair around your finger, ignoring how he grumbled over it.
“It’s not my fault, mood killer.” He grumbled, showing a barely noticeable smile to make it obvious he knew you were messing with him. His nose brushed against yours, your finger slipping from his hair and instead trailing over his jaw. His eyes slipped shut as he savored the feeling of you so close to him, your thumb brushing against his bottom lip. “Besides, I think you kinda like it.”
“Hm, maybe.”
“Shut up, I know you do.” He huffed, grinning as his neck craned forward, kissing every freckle or mark on your skin along your neck and cheeks. His heartbeat  was slow and steady, mingling with yours when you rested your hand against the side of his throat.
“I love you, baby.” He whispered into a kiss, your bottom lip perfectly tucked between his as he twisted the ring around your finger twice, fingers interlocking in his lap. His lips were soft but sure, positive that this was exactly where he wanted to be; right beside you in your shared bed, in your shared apartment, with the world quiet around you. “Always have, always will.”
“I love you too.”
“I’m sorry I took so long to figure it out.”
The ring on your finger felt like a promise from Bakugou, a promise to never let you go again. A promise that while he hated it had been such a mess to get to this point, he was happy that he ended up with you.  A promise that when you were ready, he would ask the four words he hoped you’d say yes to in his heart.
He was ready for when that moment came, the diamond ring in a perfect little velvet box he had hidden in his dresser drawer.
And he knew when you were ready, you’d say yes.

Writer Notes: The Wicked + the Divine 40
Tumblr media
Spoilers, obv.
The first issue of "Okay." I've known for quite some time that it was likely the final arc would use the word "Okay" in some way. The unpacking phrase "It's going to be okay" has been a backbone of the series. Due to the first year on the book, that's been a loaded phrase, all the way through.
But when signing a first volume of the book, I've added the dedication "It's going to be okay." There's lots to unpack in that, and I suspect I'll wait until later in this arc to say any more. But knowing that eventually we'd like have an arc called "Okay" was definitely part of doing it.
The quotation marks are key. It's a move I've done a few times in my career, in terms of showing it's a story that wants to highlight something, and raise awareness that the word should be approached with conscious consideration. This is a choice. I want you to know it's a choice. Let's talk about what that actually means anyway, right?
It's a technique I first lifted from Bowie's "Heroes". Which, of course, is doubly appropriate to use it at the end of WicDiv.
We knew they'd be a gap between the end of Mothering Invention and the start of this. The remaining five issues of the arc were tightly plotted, but in the document, this is the one which I left a lot open. I knew what I wanted to be, and it was a chance of finding an execution to make it work. It was a last chance to do a big concept issue.
(Which isn't to say there isn't conceptual stuff elsewhere in the arc. There just isn't a whole issue of it.)
This is something that I've been trying to do since issue 6. As in, a purely fan-centric issue of mainly talking heads. Every time, it's had to be cut for space. The talking heads shots of realistic footage, showing a lot of fans views on the matter. You get ghosts of it – any time Beth turns up, you get some, basically, but all of those moments could have been issues in another version of WicDiv.
(The one we won't be doing is the whole issue of literal talking heads. As in, Tara, Lucifer and Inanna just telling stories. That's fun, but we just don't have the time, and when I realised I had to stop them talking, it was definitely out. Oh, Minerva. You spoil everything.)
Equally, WicDiv's a book with two poles – the modern fan pop cultural part and the mythological grandeur. We swing one way or another, and it's easy for the latter to mug the former. I suspect that's because that's the easier stuff. Especially as Laura has gone down her hole, she's been incapable of seeing the good parts of fandom. An issue of that before the end, seemed necessary.
(Equally, with where it goes. Like, we start with Laura as a fan, and end with her on stage, saving people. The Bowie Saved More People Than Batman of WicDiv. It's a book about cycles, and ever more so here.)
So! The other side is this apocalyptic final scheme, and give a perspective on that – the necessary plot. Equally, keeping Laura off stage as long as possible.
So we end up with this.
I knew wanting to pick up and run with minor characters in WicDiv was something I wanted to do, and merging it with a disaster rapidly led to something else – this is clearly an inverted Watchmen 11. There, they gather the supporting cast together in the b-plot and then with a I-did-it-35-minutes-ago kill them all. We flip that. We imply everyone we're watching is dead, reintroduce the whole cast and then have Laura save them.
Suffice to say, formally, this was tricky.
Jamie and Matt's cover:
Meet Tom. We surveyed the whole supporting cast and picked someone who was present enough in a scene to be likely to be remembered but minor enough to be a surprise. In the end, there were less options... and the kid who asks Persephone about what to call her obviously has some strong thematic elements. She told him something. What did he make of it? It also gave a supporting cast of friends.
It's fun doing a cover like this and people going "who the hell is he?"
I wish he wasn't white and male – if I realised I was definitely going to use him in issue 24, I'd have likely have suggested otherwise. But, on the other hand, there is a point that white male guys should have heroes who aren't white male guys. So maybe I'm okay with it. Comics!
Claire Roe's Cover Well, this is monstrous. You do get the image of Minerva, like she's in Home Alone, trying to smuggle skulls. Just some great images here.
Ray Fawkes' Cover
For the Heroes Inititative Charity. The theme was "Giving" which immediately jumped to a "Lucifer giving an apple." Giving is very loaded for us. Ray is amazing – he's been an incredible support throughout all of WicDiv, and we love him. Go buy his books. My favourite is THE PEOPLE INSIDE, but for something more genre, the UNDERWINTER books are fascinating, horror. UNDERWINTER: SYMPHONY is the adult gothic sister of Wicdiv, if you squint.
IFC
Flipping "Ascended Fangirl" into "Descended God" was sitting in the script for this issue before anything else.
Page 3
Black page with white text is something that's come to the fore in the last year of WicDiv. In here, the exact word choice was key. While this feels like a documentary in terms of how it arranges information, the text doesn't tell you that. It tells you it's just footage. This means that it's not necessarily an in-world document.
Page 4-5
Working out the exact panel dimensions was a nightmare, and led to a couple of rewrites to move some pages from eight panel to a more accurate six panel. You can also see Jamie start to wrestle with the unique horror of drawing stuff that is slightly distorted, choosing angles which are less traditionally interesting and so on.
Unboxing videos are a fascinating phenomena. It's fun to see culture happen which I fundamentally don't get on an emotional level. That's what culture should throwing up.
The details on the ticket do make me smile, in an awful way.
Yes, the "change the orientation" panel is clearly us showing off. This is the sort of issue I did a lot of doodles for. It also led to a bunch of lettering challenges for Clayton, in working out whether to put balloon tails off-camera to signify the other speaker. In the end, Clayton talked us into the other approach, noting it worked fine in Mister Miracle. Hey, if Tom King does it, I guess it's fine with us.
It's worth noting the way the off-panel speaker is orientated, to ensure you know who they are. See the "Tom" in the dialogue in the second panel, to ensure you know it's Nathan.
"The front row if it kills us" is very us. This issue is a mix of awful tension and strokes of equally awful gallows humour. His smile is also adorable.
Page 6
Sometimes the most beautiful thing in the world is a page of exposition via the medium of power-point. We're all big fans of the 1960s kirby superhero maps, and this is kind of the same thing.
Page 7
This is also a masterclass in a "Naturalism is hard" sort of page layout. The choice of the greys by Matt is really nice too.
Page 8
And back with Tom and friends. Worth noting the planning on this issue – I had this list of scenes, and tried to work how much I can cut between them to create a rhythm, which obviously accelerates the further we go in.
"Shitting them whole"? Nathan is totally right. Tom, you re NASTY.
Trying to get a subplot which fit in the space for them is key. Like, friends navigating a space. That Tom and Nathan are both far from perfect in this is also important. I just realised this is totally an alt-dimension Kohl and Kid-with-knife scene.
Page 9
The greatest tragedy of WicDiv is we never got around to doing the WicDiv calendar with all the dates on. Will we get around to it for Christmas 2019? IT COULD BE POSSIBLE.
The problem in terms of story here is getting the multiple lies – Woden doesn't know what Baal has had him to do, and Baal doesn't know what Minerva is making him do. So trying to set that information up so is clear, while also in a naturalistic fashion is a trick.
We were having LOC CAPs on some of this footage, but decided to cut them all. Only some of them had it, and having it on them all would create a mess. This is the one I regret though – there's one tiny bit of information I'd like to have got in here. C'est la vie.
The colour banding on this is fascinating – the late night recording. Also, Jamie's burn on the calendar is golden.
Page 10
This was another one where the lines were worked hard. What happens BEFORE the image, what happens AFTER the image and all that.
Anyway, some good thinking here Tom.
The chat between the two, in terms of fans-beliefs and minor pieces, and hot takes and their own beliefs. Also re-introducing certain takes.
Page 11
This page is hard. The silent third panel is amazing – what Jamie does with the panning between the two. The caption would have revealed who's filming it – the Sister – but that isn't essential information.
"You soppy twat" is something I'm oddly pleased with getting in. It's a very naturalistic issue, and the tenderness is very real.
There has been a tendency for people to take Baal's fight against the Great Darkness solely to save his family, and understandable why. This scene and what follows shows that no, it's not just that. He actually believes he's saving the world, because if he didn't, he certainly wouldn't fucking do this.
Page 12
And Minerva reveals her side of all this. The little callback to 1373 does make me smile.
The stylistic nature of this is key – Jamie doing the fish-eye, Matt working the blues, giving that night vision creepiness.
Page 13-14
This issue was definitely me trying to look for ways for Jamie to not just draw a million crowd-scenes. The first two is definitely me lampshading it.
In passing, this two pages is basically all of Young Avengers in sixteen panels.
The last panel is a thing of love, and definitely inspired by a Glastonbury festival, circa 1998. I'm there alone, as it was one of the infamous wet years, waiting for Nick Cave to come on the main stage. A highly high and/or drunk guy stops beside me, after pushing through the crowd. He's clearly very excited, to the level where a group of younger women start to join in and/or mock him. He is very entertaining.
Nick Cave comes on stage, doing a half-speed From Her To Eternity.
"From her."
"To."
Eternity."
Murmurs Nick.
Our new friend hasn't actually noticed and howls at the top of his lungs...
"FROM HHHHEERRRRR TOOooOOOOOOooOOOOOOoo ETERRNNITYYYY!"
...at at least twice the speed of Nick.
At which point, he's decides he wants to be further front. Turning to the people around him, he suggests we all go forward. "Yeah?" "Yeah!" the girls scream, and immediately they all form a conga and start pushing through the crowd, with him chanting "NICK CAVE ARMY COMING THRUUUUUU!"
I join in, as clearly I want to follow this journey. It leads us to the front, where I believe I stay for the rest of the night?
On the way to the front I step on the shoe of a guy who, a year or two later, invites me to storm the stage on a Saturday morning TV show. I turn it down, and then he only goes and does it anyway.
Pop music!
Anyway, that panel is for that guy, wherever he is.
Page 15
Okay, I can't hold off crowd scenes forever. Sorry Jamie, but not too sorry, as this looks amazing. Matt pushing the controls completely into the red, with the distortions going on. This is everything. It's also the panel where the conceit of watching television is lowest – the panel shape is wrong, and it's unlikely a camera would be on Baal's mum on the top of the pillar... but they are deniably so, I suspect.
I look at this page and smile. This is some comics. Nice work, us.
Page 16-17-18-19
And we're off. This is... oh, god. There were diagrams for this, in terms of working out panel flow. There's multiple routes through the two pages, which cascade together. The backbone is the "Baal" story arc, across the diagonal on both spreads.
The second panel reads across both pages – notice the orange band leading you to the right – where a talking head explains what's actually going on at the gig, and why everyone is being immersed.
When you finish this row, you get the presenter giving the context for the remaining talking heads. On the first spread, you get a talking head talking answering the question... and then placing them in the crowd. When that ideas's been set up, in the second spread we have multiple talking heads answering it, which all gather around a single group shot showing them all by each other, unknowing. And then there's Tom, and his friends, mixed in, with Tom's own answer stumbling towards his own truth, and his friends together, joined in this.
I'm getting excited here, clearly, but this is some engineered machine monstrosity, and I love how it collaborates with the reader.
This made it a nightmare for the guided view on Comixology. We contacted them in advance, offering to help a little. In the end, I wrote my suggested route, and they went with it. Moving from a non-linear sequence to a linear sequence clearly changes it somewhat, but I think it keeps a lot of the percussion. So don't blame them, blame me.
Oh – I had a list of people to possibly include in this sequence, and selected from them. There's been some impressive attempts by readers to ID everyone. Clearly, I tried to signal who they were in their dialogue a little. My personal hero is the guy from issue 19 who saw Dionysus before Baph nabbed him. You're a fucking legend too, mate.
Tweaks we did was realising it was three hetero-reading couples on the first page, which was heteronormative. We changed that to avoid it. And, yes, that's Jon's mum.
The one I wished I could get in, but lost, was the guy standing to the right of Laura in Issue one, who jizzed to Amaterasu. His line would have been something like "I hope I enjoy this one as much as that time with Amaterasu!"
This is an awful book, in many ways.
20-21
And just let the awful moment linger. Do it naturally and show it. All that rush and then this. Once more, Matt Wilson for Eisners. The hyperbright is one thing, but the flicker on the aftermath another. And the hint of the giant in there is also carefully worked – it's something we needed there, but also was a small part of it. What was important just imagining all those people dying.
22
Inevitable Total Eclipse Of The Heart reference, the go-to song for ending WicDiv dance parties.
23-24
And then, after all that, we get this moment, building towards that final image of Laura.
Honestly, this got to me when Jamie first sent it to me in a burst into tears way. You've come a long way.
I also like the idea that Laura, before heading out, looked through all her stuff and decided "Yes, Hoop ear-rings are the look for saving 20,000 people."
Next issue is out on Wednesday.
Thanks for reading.

SEO Checklist 2020
Tumblr media
Are you looking for a complete SEO checklist 2020 for more brand visibility and increasing website traffic? Do you spend a lot of time trying different SEO approaches but none work? We have put together a comprehensive SEO checklist guide that we follow for our clients, which done right can skyrocket your website traffic.
The guide includes:
Pre-requisites before you start
Complete SEO checklist for 2020
Answers to some common questions
Pre-requisites Before You Start
Before we delve into the checklist section, it is important for you to prepare for it. The checklist before starting SEO is mentioned below will help you make the most of the steps.
1. Create a Sitemap
Sitemaps instruct the search engines where to find crucial content on your website, which they can crawl and index. This is how it looks:
Generally, you can find yours at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
If you use WordPress, you can use Yoast, otherwise there are lots of sitemap generators on Google.
2. Create and add Robots.txt file to your website
This is a plain text file that tells the search engines where they can and cannot go on your website. It looks like this:
As you can see above, the robots.txt file includes a link to the sitemap which instructs the search engines where to look for, followed by some directions leading search engines not to crawl and index any pages which have ‘billing’ in the URL. If you are a WordPress user, use Yoast (the next point will explain how to install it) to create and optimize this text file. If not, this generator can work well.
3. Install Yoast SEO (if using WordPress)
It is a free plugin for WordPress. It helps you create sitemaps, optimizes metatags, applies ‘noindex’ attributes at required spaces and lots more. So, we can positively say it makes tedious technical things less tedious.
In case you do not use WordPress, then find the ‘Best SEO plugin for (your CMS) on Google.
Note : Some Yoast alternatives like The SEO Framework and All in one SEO Pack are useful too.
4. Set up Google Analytics
It is a free tool from Google to see the number of visitors on your website and how they interact.
To install Google Analytics, sign up and paste the code into your website.
5. Set up Google Search Console
It is the most popular and powerful tool for all webmasters. It allows you to track the performance in search and find out the keywords you rank for and also help you know the site improvements you can make.
How to use this SEO Checklist?
Before we move ahead with the main section of the SEO checklist, it is important to know how to use it. This checklist is like a shopping list of all the ingredients you require for a delicious chocolate cake. Using all the ingredients make you a perfect cake but some are more essential than others.
What we mean is, you do not need to implement everything that’s on the checklist. Following the key advice from every section and doing your best will help you achieve the numbers. Let’s delve into it:
Keyword Research Checklist
Keyword research is the essential ingredient of SEO. Think of it in this way, if you do not know what people are searching for, how will you be able to optimize your content for the search engines?
Follow these actionable elements:
1. Find the Target Keyword (Primary Keyword)
Each page on your website should be dedicated and targeted to one primary keyword. For example:
50 Actionable SEO Tips (SEO tips being the primary keyword, having more than 10k searches a month).
20 Best Free SEO Tools (SEO tools being the primary keyword, having 9k searches a month).
Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer and Google Keyword Planner can help you find the right primary keyword.
2. Find Long-tail Keywords
Not every person searches for one thing in the same way. Basically, people look for the same thing in different ways. Google reaffirms that 15% of the searches are new and never searched before. This is where long tail keywords help.
Use Google autocomplete to find these keywords as you can see below. Put your primary keyword and you will find plenty of long-tail keyword variations.
You can even use Ahrefs’ search suggestions for finding long tail keywords.
3. Understand User’s Search Intent
There is hardly any time when you Google something and do not find what you are looking for in the first results. This is because Google understands what the user is searching for when they type a couple of words.
To rank for a particular keyword, you need to understand the search intent of the user. Let’s check out the current ranking results in SERPs for ‘SEO Checklist’ to help you understand better.
The results shown in the above image are all blog posts. There are no E-Commerce results for product pages because Google understands that is not what the user is looking for.
4. Questions People Are Asking
From analyzing the search intent, you can understand that the phrase ‘SEO checklist’ is an informational query where users are looking for guides. But do you know what questions do they have? What information should you include in your guide?
The ‘people also ask’ section’ in the search results can help you get ideas.
Also, the search results at the end of the page can help.
5. Ensure Ranking is Achievable
You would of course not want to put efforts into ranking a keyword which is unachievable. Well, it is not possible to not rank on any keyword. However, it can be too tough to crack in case your competition are some strong pages like:
Multiple referring domains
Big brands in the top searches
High URL rating to top pages
The Ahrefs Keyword Difficulty will help you give a sense of it.
What if you find a difficult keyword? We would suggest you look for another easier to rank keyword.
On Page SEO Checklist
1. Use Short and Descriptive URLs
Google loves shorter URLs and they rank better as per the 2016 study of 2 million keywords.
Note – this is a correlation study.
Make sure your URL is short and descriptive giving an insight to the user on what they should expect when they click on it.
For instance, https://ahrefs.com/blog/free-seo-tools/, which tells users they would find free seo tools on the page. This URL also has one more factor to rank high- keyword – ‘free seo tools’.
2. Add the Keyword to Title Tag and Meta Descriptions
Including the keyboard in the title tag is important. Google now weighs click through rates on the search results to determine the ranking. Thus, make your title attractive so that most people click on it.
Including the keyword in the meta description does not determine the search engine ranking but can help you get more clicks, which matters.
Make sure to not stuff keywords only because you have to. This wouldn’t work for you positively. Instead, place it in a way that looks effortlessly natural.
3. Use Only One H1 on Page and Include a Keyword
Google stated that you could use as many H1 tags as you want on your page. But we think it is wise to not stuff the content with H1 tags because it is often used for title or most important heading and we assume there wouldn’t be many. Including keywords in the tag can work positively for your website because:
Scanning – Placing the keyword in H1 tag helps you confirm that the visitor is in the right place and talks about the topic they Googled before arriving at your page.
Link Framing – Including the keyword in the H1 tag will increase your chances of receiving links that people link to your page with the target keyword. Ahrefs’ site audit can help you check the number of H1 tags you have on the page.
This video will help you to know more.
4. Link to High Authoritative Websites
Web Pages that link to high authoritative websites rank higher when compared to those who don’t.
Note – This is a correlation study.
Do not forget to link out to other pages, just ensure they are not your competitors, of course, relevant and have a good domain authority.
5. Link to Pages with Search Engine Optimized Anchor Text
Apart from including relevant links to authoritative websites in your content, Google even considers the language used in the hyperlink. By internal linking with anchor text to a relevant page, you are indicating Google what the content is about.
Make sure you stick to in content links because including keywords in global navigation can look like over optimization which Google doesn’t like a lot.
6. Optimize Your Images with Alt Tags
One of the most common mistakes that marketers make is not including the target keywords in their image alt tags.
70% marketers do not use an alt tag in images and 50% don’t even fill it but tags are important. The purpose of the tag is to tell the reader what the image is about if the image fails to load. Thus, making descriptive alt tags is better and should include a keyword.
Not just this, the alt tag can help your image rank in Google images.
7. Use Long Tail Keywords ‘Naturally’ in the Content
To your surprise, most top ranking page on Google also ranks for almost 1000 other keywords, which means that most of the traffic will not come from the target keyword.
A post of Ahrefs’ gets 6.5k monthly visitors from the United States as you can see from the image below.
But the primary keyword has a search volume of 1.2k and send 376 visitors a month to the website. This means that most of the traffic comes from the long tail keywords to that website.
Make sure you do not stuff the article with long tail keywords but sprinkle it throughout the content in a way that it looks natural and makes sense. Remember not to overdo because readability is the priority.
8. Add Schema Markup
Schema markup allows the search engines to understand the content. Also, it can affect the look of how it is displayed in the search results. Here is an example image below:
This is how it would look in schema markup.
Schema markup can increase the clicks and it is also not technical to implement. You can use any of these:
Google's markup helper
Schema markup generator
Content Checklist
Choosing the primary keyword and a few secondary long tail keywords as well as doing other basic on-page SEO is crucial but not worth if the content is not up to the mark. Follow these tips to ensure high-quality content:
1. Write a Brilliant Introduction
If you fail to convince the reader that your web page offers what they are looking for in the introduction, then you wouldn’t think twice but hit the back button and look for another source.
You need to have an attractive intro and should include:
Relate to the reader
Promise a solution to their problem
There is another reason why you should have a compelling introduction. No one will link to your content without reading it. Thus, to attract links (which is an important ranking factor), you need to engage the reader to your content.
2. Readability
Would you like to read a big paragraph? No one would. Thus, it is important to divide the content into bullet points, subheadings, add images etc.
In short, make your content readable with lots of images for a better understanding. You will notice that a lot on our blog.
3. Keep Sentences and Paragraphs Short
Did you know 50% of the US people read under an 8th grade level.
So make sure you target the entire population with your article. Using shorter sentences and paragraphs will help them understand better. Also:
Use simple words instead of complicated words
Do not use unnecessary jargon and adverbs
4. Informative Content on the Topic
As you may know, the readers are on your website to get some information. Make sure your content is concise and there is no fluff.
Follow the E-A-T method that Google claims to be looking for in your content. E-A-T stands for expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness of the creator of the content.
Technical SEO Checklist
Often, technical SEO problems don’t hold back a website from ranking. Most people think that technical SEO is complex and tedious. The fact is, it isn’t.
This section focuses only on common SEO problems that you can solve. For in detail understanding, what this video (embed SEO Audit: How to Fix Your Website’s Technical SEO)
1. Find and Fix Crawl Errors
The crawl errors mean that Google is finding it difficult to view your content. If it doesn’t view, it will not make your page rank. Thus, fixing these issues is very important.
Find crawl errors in – Google Search Console – Coverage
2. Fast Website Speed and User Experience
Search engines value the sites that load fast and provides a great user experience. If your site loads slow, the user will lose patience and leave. This will not only have you lose customers but also drop your engagement rate.
Use GTMetrix to check page load time.
3. Mobile Responsiveness
It is very important to have a website that is mobile -friendly. Every person has a mobile and internet connection. Most searches happen on mobile devices, and you just cannot ignore this point.
Use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test Tool to know if the site needs to improve on mobile.
4. Find and Fix Broken Links
It is important to find and fix the broken links on your website. Its does not affect the ranking of your website but the user experience. Less than 2% of the websites ranking in the top 10 of Google searches have broken links.
Learn how to find and fix broken links here.
5. No Plagiarized Content
Make sure your website does not have duplicate content on it. This can be a problem for you because Google gets confused about which page to rank. It dilutes the value of your content. Find and fix duplicate content as a priority.
6. Find Bad Redirects
A 302 redirect is temporary. It is used for time-specific promotions and maintenance. The drawback of this redirect is that it will not pass all the SEO values to the new page like 301 redirect. So replace all the 302 redirects with 301 redirects.
7. Switch to a Secured Connection
If your website is HTTP, switch it to HTTPS today. Google has stated that HTTPS is a ranking factor. Since the study is too old, we suggest you to take it with a pinch of salt but not ignore. Most websites are switching to HTTPS and so should you.
Keeping the ranks aside, switching to a secured connection will protect yours and your visitors’ data which is very important.
Off Page SEO Checklist
Off page SEO is the most challenging task of Search Engine Optimization. The reason is that most of the things are not under your control and you have to rely on others to give you a link. Below are the few tried and tested off page SEO tactics that you can use:
1. Evaluate Competitor’s Links
Your competitors may have some backlinks if not many. It is a good thing for you as if a site is linking to your competitor’s site chances are that it would link to you as well.
Thinking how can this help you? Find the websites that are linking to your competitors with the help of Ahrefs’ Link Intersect tool and enter all the competitors and you get a list of links. Look for the ones that you can replicate like guest posts etc.
2. Look for Unlinked Mentions
Unlinked mentions are when people and mention your brand name without linking back to you.
The image below will help you understand better.
You need to convert these unlinked mentions two linked mentions. All you need to do is just reach out to the author and request them to give you a link. Since they already know your brand, there are higher chances of them giving you a link.
If you do not know how to find unlinked mentions read this guide.
3. Contact Linkerati
Linkerati are those who would be interested in your content and also have the power to link you. Blogger outreach services can help you contact these right people.
If you are thinking, if it works or not, yes, it does. There is an example of a reply to an outreach email below.
Miscellaneous SEO Checklist
There are a few more things that you need to consider apart from those mentioned above to help you secure a place in the search results.
1. Hold Your Brand Page on all Social Media Platforms
Make sure to hold your brand page on social media platforms before anyone else gets that account. This is because you want to ensure all the results on the first page of Google are yours.
2. Setup Bing Webmaster Tools
Bing works well for many companies all over the world, especially the United States. It is just like Google Search Console for Microsoft’s search engine.
3. SEO Re-audit
It is not possible to conduct a manual check on the SEO. You can either run the audit using audit tools or hire a professional for it who would help you out with the solutions as well.

Optimize Your Site For Success With These SEO Suggestions
Optimizing your search engine capabilities can be a great boon to any website, but do not go about it the wrong way! These tips will increase your page ranking while maintaining a good standing with your search engines.
When publishing content, it’s best to post multiple short pieces on topics that are similar than it is to post extremely long articles. A long page will not get you additional attention from a search engine. Additionally, many viewers won’t bother reading a whole article if it is too long.
There are various search engine optimization strategies you can employ. A site that utilizes techniques designed to maximize search efficiency will produce the best results. A more satisfying experience will be the outcome.
Consider using a pay-per-click strategy as a good affiliate marketing tactic. This is a simple system with low pay, but you can make money from it.
It is important to be patient while enduring the process of boosting your Lynchburg Search Engine Optimization. A large amount of traffic will not come overnight from your efforts. If your website is new, it may take months for you to get more site traffic. In this respect, an online business is no different than a traditional one. Reputations develop over time.
Look into exactly how much experience they have. You need the best information and knowledge of risks to make an informed decision.
Search Engine
When you are trying to accomplish search engine optimization goals, the use of meta description tags on each page of your site can be very effective. These tags are worth the time it takes, because they will offer a little summary of what the page entails, either on your site or in the search engine results. The content that you use on your meta tag should be concise and valuable. Visitors will see this information and want to click your site, and even may help you beat out pages that rank higher.
Keep your focus to just one subject per page. Don’t throw all your eggs into one basket. This will keep your readers interested and on your website longer. With a single focus page, you will have greater results.
Create a site map that includes your keywords. A map will help your viewers see all the parts of your website and will allow them to easily navigate throughout your site. This will increase your search engine rankings, because this sort of tool that supports easy access is highly regarded by the search engine algorithms.
Look into using online ads. Many times DIY Lynchburg SEO is not enough. These advertisements will increase your views. Adwords is a product available to you from a major search engine and can greatly improve your site traffic.
Use Javascript if you want, but some crawlers won’t see it. Using Java is totally up to the website owner as a choice, but remember that some search engines will see your website differently due to the different capabilities found in the respective crawlers.
Image links are a rarity on websites that have undergone thorough search engine optimization. You cannot add descriptions to an image link, which limits the ability of search engine spiders to see it and rank it.
Make sure all image tags have “alt” tags for better Search Engine Marketing. These tags are intended to replace images if the website visitor disables image display. Search engine spiders can’t read images, only alt tags, which means they’ll be seeing those keywords. And this can improve your search ranking.
There are an almost limitless amount of techniques out there for Lynchburg Search Engine Optimization but trying to learn them all is a mistake. There just is not enough time to fully master all the different techniques you can implement, so learn one and exploit it extensively.
If you know how people will search for you, you will know what keywords to use when building your site. Make sure to include the keywords in your title tags and main content. Be aware that “keyword stuffing” is a grave offense that could get your site de-listed from search engines.
High quality, unique content is one of the best ways to boost your search engine rankings. So you aren’t overlooked by prospective viewers, make your content original, pertinent and differentiated from other sites. Visitors will spend more time on your site if you offer them relevant and original information.
Keywords will help you improve the visibility of your sites. Search engines will more easily be able to find articles that contain relevant keywords. Good keywords help make your articles more visible. As a rule of thumb, your keyword should appear in the title, the summary, and about four or five times in the main body.
Put more content on pages than only links. Incorporate the links throughout your pages and make them blend well with the content. Local SEO Strategy Guide: How to Rank Where It Counts via @webceonews
Who exactly needs optimization for local search? At first glance, it’s obviously those who want customers to walk through their doors physically. But those, who conduct business without meeting people face to face, are still going to need local SEO as long as there’s a benefit and opportunity to attract customers from a specific area (whether it’s a single town or an entire country). Many businesses fool themselves into thinking that, because their products or services are available to a worldwide market, there’s no benefit in specifically doing well in the region where they are located. This is often a mistake. At its core, local SEO is about two things:
Placing your site in the most visible spots in local search.
Gaining your target audience’s trust.
And both are perfectly within your reach. So, is your mind ready for some work? Have you armed yourself with high-quality SEO tools? Let’s do it, then.
1. Use Local Keywords
Normal search can be described as “find me this thing”. Local search adds an extra component: location. Users tell the search engines “find me this thing in this place”, and all other places are recognized as irrelevant and filtered from the results. What remains? Results that are relevant since they are about that thing in that place. And because websites rely on keywords to be found via search queries, you can imagine that not just any keywords will do. They will need that extra component. Examples of local search-friendly keywords:
Buy bicycle in London
Bicycle store near me
Bicycle store near The Ritz
Closest bicycle store
You can also try to include local jargon in your keywords. It’s a way to localize them without explicitly naming the place. That’s how local keywords are different from normal keywords. What else do you need? A way to pick the best from the lot. There are two major factors.
Search volume: The number of monthly searches by users. The higher this number, the more users you can potentially attract through search engines, so aim as high as you can.
Search intent: A good keyword clearly represents what the users are trying to find. Local keywords are already more specific about that thanks to including a location, but you can increase your chances to attract the users you need by doubling down on details. Compare these two keywords: “buy bicycle in London” and “buy mountain bike in London”. Adding an extra detail signals to potential customers that you have exactly what they want.
Now, with all of the above in mind, all that’s left to do is find the best local keywords for your site. There is a keyword finding tool that can do just that: Keyword Suggestions.
Tumblr media
Type your keyword ideas into the bar and press Search. The tool will display information on the keyword you entered and suggest many other potential keywords you could use. It will be up to you to decide which are the best for you.
2. Create Optimized, High-Quality Content
Search engines rank websites based on their overall authority – their reputation, if you will. It’s the sum of all factors that indicate a website’s value to users. However, users rarely think about most of those factors and only focus on a site’s content. That’s what they see most of the time, after all. So the question is: what kind of content is valuable and the most likely to make money?
Useful: It must offer users solutions to their problems.
Informative: It must provide as much information as users might need.
Convincing: It must be able to convince users to become your customers.
User-friendly: It must be simple to view and use.
SEO-friendly: It must be optimized to rank in search engines.
Unique: Every page on your site must be one of a kind and not copied from anywhere – not from another site, and not from your own.
You can find all these traits in content that ranks on Google’s first page. The closer it is to the coveted position #1, the more apparent these traits become. There is no standard to create high-quality content – making a really successful piece often requires inspiration and ingenuity. But there are general tips for SEOing your content that everyone can use. Help search engines and users understand what your content is about. Put your keywords in these places on your site’s pages:
URLs. Make your URLs short and readable.
Page title. It must be unique for every page.
Meta description. It, too, must be unique for every page.
H1-H4 headings. Don’t just use a slogan without keywords as an H1 tag.
Image titles, captions, and ALT attributes.
Other text.
If there are poorly optimized pages on your site, find them with the On-Site Issues Overview tool.
3. Use Eye-Catching Visuals
Visual information is really good at getting the point across. In fact, no other type of information comes close. That’s why, if you are trying to sell something, graphics and videos are essential for you. They will make your website look alive and your business more presentable. What is especially good for local SEO?
Pull out all the stops and show your customers everything you’ve got: The building where your workplace is located, the surrounding area, what your workplace looks like inside, your products and/or services, your employees, even your customers (with their consent). Make your users want to visit the place they see on the screen.
360° photos: A tripod may cost you a bit, but a beautiful panoramic shot is priceless. It’s also fun to interact with, so that’s a bonus point for the user experience (UX) on your site.
Remember the part about making your site look alive? That’s literally what the word “animation” means.
Videos. Sound, imagery, and text make the most powerful combination existing on the web, and nothing has topped it so far.
Got a bit of interesting knowledge that’s related to your line of work and would be better digested when spliced with some pictures? That’s the recipe for an infographic. It will have an even greater effect on users if it’s unique and no other infographic talks about the same topic.
Charts and diagrams: Confidence is born from success. Don’t be afraid to show that you know what you are doing! If you can tell a story about your success, it might be possible to show it in a visual form – for example, how much your sales have increased or how many customers you have served over the years. Just be careful not to brag too much.
And if you enable an option to share your visuals in social media, users will be all too happy. Lastly, there’s a way to make your images even more useful in terms of local SEO: geotagging. It means adding GPS information to images, making it easier for search engines to associate them with specific locations. Usually, modern cameras (including phone cameras) do it automatically, but if your photos somehow weren’t geotagged, you can do it manually with a free online service.
4. Optimize for Multilingual SEO
If you plan to be really successful, I doubt you will sit on the same spot your entire life. You will want to expand, claim new ground, gain even more customers from new places. Eventually, you may even cross borders. And once you build a new HQ in another country, your local SEO will crash right into the language barrier. That’s where international SEO takes the stage! It isn’t as simple as translating all your content into a foreign language. There are many more steps to take, but here’s a full list of them – hopefully before you need them.
Choose the Most Optimal URL Structure
Where should you put your international content? You have these options:
Keep it on the same domain.
Purchase a new domain.
Create a subdomain.
For the purposes of international SEO, the best option is to create a subfolder on your existing domain. Like so: https://example.com/de. Why this over the other two? It’s because a new domain and a subdomain will end up competing with your current domain for rankings – definitely not a good thing in SEO. If you use a subfolder instead, it will receive all the domain authority you have already built up until now. Another way to keep translated content on your domain is to use language parameters (e.g., https://example.com/?lang=de), but this isn’t a very SEO-friendly approach. Search engines sometimes have trouble indexing pages with parameters in their URLs.
Use the Hreflang Attribute
Search engines will recognize the language of your content with no problem, but it’s still a good idea to spell it out for them. To do that, use the hreflang attribute in your pages’ HTML code. Like this: <link rel=”alternate” href=”http://example.com/de” hreflang=”de”/> Keep in mind that this attribute tells search engines both the language of your content and the region you are targeting with that page. This is where it gets tricky: you must pick the correct value for the hreflang attribute. For example, the value in our example is “de”, which means German content independent of region, but if you want to target a German-speaking audience in Spain, the value must be “de-ES”. Fortunately, Wikipedia’s got you covered: it has the list of language codes and the list of region codes. Simply pick what suits your situation from one or both of these lists.
Set up a Layout That Doesn’t Conflict with Different Languages
As you know, not all languages write from left to right. If you translate your content into a language that writes in a different way, make sure it still looks good and can be easily read on your site. Otherwise, you will have to change your site’s layout.
Don’t Use Automatic Redirects
You might be tempted to check your users’ IP and automatically redirect them to a translated version of your content. There are two reasons why it’s a bad idea:
Redirects add to page load time, lowering page rankings and hurting UX.
Users might not actually know the language you are giving them, which is even worse for UX.
Just don’t set up such redirects.
Use Only High-Quality Translations Done by a Human
A native-speaking translator beats a machine all day, every day. Don’t be stingy; there’s many a tale about people who embarrassed themselves with a poor choice of words in a foreign language. Invest in high-quality translations done by a person who knows what they are writing about.
Don’t Use Country Flags or Names in Your Language Choice Menus
Here’s another rookie mistake: confusing country flags with the languages they supposedly represent. People migrate all over the planet, often to stay. It’s hard to name a country where they speak only one language. That’s why, when you make a language choice menu on your site, you shouldn’t rely on countries’ names and flags to signify the options. Now if you use the languages’ names instead, there’s no risk of making a mistake. One look at such a list and the person will immediately know what they need to choose.
Tumblr media
Allow the Use of Local Currency
This is a good tip for ecommerce site owners: you will acquire more customers this way. The dollar is used worldwide, but people are often more comfortable with their own country’s official currency. Give them an option to pay with it if your payment processor allows this.
Optimize for Local Search Engines
While Google is used everywhere, many countries have their own popular search engines. It’s, therefore, a good idea to research those search engines and figure out how to rank in them. Before you start worrying, know that many of them are powered by bigger and more famous search engines like Google, so this task is a lot easier than it sounds.
Make Sure Your Content Is Culturally Sensitive
Who wants to risk an international incident? No business owner worth their salt, that’s for sure. What is acceptable in one country might not be so in another. When you expand into a new place, you must be aware of its cultural situation and what is considered offensive there. Wherever you are trying to make money, be careful not to step on too many toes.
5. Make Rich Snippets with Structured Data
What’s the best way to make your search results more clickable? Titles, meta descriptions, URLs – these are all good places to start and improve. But the absolute killer way is to turn your results into rich snippets. You know, these guys:
Tumblr media
Don’t they look enticing? You can make these for literally any site. All you need to do is schema markup (also known as structured data) and the knowledge about how to use it. There is an in-depth tutorial for that on Schema.org’s official site. What do you normally mark up on a website for a local business?
Address
Telephone number
Opening hours
Review score
Prices
Menu (for the food service industry)
Number of rooms (for hotels)
Number of screens (for movie theaters)
And more. Anything you want to show in your search result, you name it. There are two important things to keep in mind with structured data:
Mark up the information on your web pages correctly. If you don’t, your rich snippets will show your information in the wrong places – for example, your product prices where your telephone number should be.
Validate your pages with Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool. It’s the easiest way to spot any errors you may have made.
6. Gather Positive Reviews
Customer feedback is more powerful than even the prettiest, most clickable ad. Utilize that to come out on top. In fact, if you want to come out on top, that is your only option. But no pressure! Fortunately, as long as you keep your business in top form and provide great service, it will be easy to gather positive customer reviews. If you want to make full use of them, you will want to show what people say about you on your site. Be sure to create a page where your customers can leave their reviews for other users to read. But don’t stop there: take it one step further and display your review score in your rich snippets, too. And how to make your customers leave a review? Just ask them and provide a link to the review form.
7. Create a Google My Business Listing
Another huge help in local SEO is Google My Business – Google’s free tool for managing your appearance in local search. Let’s make this clear: these days, there is no local SEO without Google My Business. If you don’t create a listing there, customers will have so much trouble finding your business that they will probably not bother with you at all. The benefits of using GMB are so enormous that everyone wants to successfully register with them, and disregarding them means to doom your business to obscurity. If you still need more motivation, here’s what you will get for creating a listing on GMB.
Ranking boost in local search.
Google Maps: a spot on the map for every address you occupy.
Local 3-pack: a place in that list with three results under Google Maps.
Knowledge Panel: the large panel with information at the top right side of Google’s first page.
The only potential downside to GMB is the sheer amount of information it displays for you – it can be easy to get lost. But this sort of problem is easily solved with SEO tools, particularly WebCEO’s Google My Business tool. You can use it for these tasks:
Get information on how users interact with your business in search: impressions, site visits, photo views, phone calls. If you have multiple listings, the tool can display this information for all of them at once (whereas Google My Business shows it for only one at a time). Switching between listings is also easier.
Find your local competitors (including the ones without their own websites). The tool sorts your competitors in the list based on their distance from you on Google Maps – something even the actual Google My Business can’t do.
Manage customer reviews. You can even reply to them without leaving WebCEO’s platform.
8. Use Data from Google Analytics and Search Console
Everyone who does SEO has at least heard about Google Analytics and Google Search Console; many are even skilled at using them. And they have a lot of data that will prove useful to a local business. It’s no secret that Google’s services can be hard to navigate, so you should also use SEO tools that can draw Google’s data and present it in a more user-friendly way.
Local Keyword Analysis
Are you aware of every keyword your site is ranking for? Sure, you are optimizing it for a few or a lot, but there may also be other queries that trigger your site to appear in search. If you start using them more actively, it could be your chance to get more traffic than before. Where to Find This Data: The Google Search Queries report is integrated with WebCEO. It’s a good place to find new local keyword ideas since it also shows the queries’ impressions, average positions found by Google searchers globally in the past 30 days and click-through rates.
User Interaction with Your Site
Do users click on your site in search results or do they ignore it? What about how they act once they arrive on your site? Obviously, the more users find you and give you clicks, the more you can earn – that’s the whole point of having a website. You don’t want any problems with this part. Where to Find This Data: Google Search Console -> Performance. Here you can find a chart with your impressions, clicks and click-through rates. You can get even more detailed information in the table under it – for example, checking the CTRs of your individual search results. You will also need information on your bounce rates, which you can check in Google Analytics -> Behavior -> Site Content -> All Pages.
Local Audience Analysis
As a local business, you will want to bring in people from specific places. You will also want them to have certain interests so they will at least consider becoming your customers. Therefore, it would help to know how good your site is at attracting such people. Where to Find This Data: Geo reports in WebCEO.
Traffic by Country: Check how much traffic you get from all over the world, along with bounce and conversion rates.
Traffic by City: Narrow down your traffic to an individual city.
Language of Visitors: See the languages used by your most prolific users.
Another useful report can be found in Google Analytics: Audience -> Interests -> Overview. Divide your site visitors into categories of interests and see how many of them come from your target audience.
Audience’s Journey
How do users come to your site? What pages do they visit? Where do they start, where do they go next and where do they drop off? If you can understand how users browse your site, you’ll be able to influence the course of their journey and direct them to pages where you need more visitors. Where to Find This Data: Google Analytics -> Behavior -> Behavior Flow. Sort user traffic by Acquisition -> Traffic type as shown on the picture below. With this, you can view the users’ journey through your site while highlighting the different sources of traffic.
Tumblr media
Use of Your Site’s Search Bar
If you have a search bar, you should know what your users do with it. Their search queries will tell you a lot about what exactly they want to find on your site. You can optimize your pages for these queries or even create new pages if the users are looking for something you don’t have yet. Where to Find This Data: Google Analytics -> Behavior -> Site search.
9. Build Local Links
When one site places a link to another, it tells Google: “These guys have relevant content! It’s valuable to our users!” At least that’s how it is when everyone is playing by the rules. What do you think happens when local resources recognize your business’ site as relevant? Your site receives a ranking boost. Research the sites that share a niche with you – backlinks from there will be the most valuable. You can look up many examples of such sites in the Content Submission tool. What kind of sites should you look for?
Local forums
News portals
Blogs about local events
Other businesses’ sites
Business directories
It’s also a great idea to check your local competitors’ backlinks – their linking domains could be useful to you too. Find those domains with Competitor Backlink Spy.
Tumblr media
10. Use Unique NAP(U) Citations
Contact information for a business serves two purposes. It:
Allows potential customers to contact the business.
Can be treated as its unique identifier.
Why is this important? Some businesses have either the same name or the same address as another business. In rare cases, they can have the same phone number. However, it’s next to impossible for any two businesses to share all of the above. You won’t confuse them as long as you have this information. And if you don’t have it? Problems arise. Here’s an example. Let’s say there are two movie theaters with the same name, but in different cities. You have their phone numbers, but you forgot which theater is from where. You are left with one theater name and two numbers. How do you know which one you should call to book a seat? It’s not a very difficult problem, but it’s still a major inconvenience. That’s why NAP(U) or UNAP citations are so important. They include your business’ name, address, phone number and website’s URL address.
Fill out this information on your site.
Fill it out on Google My Business and other business listing sites.
If it happens to change, be sure to change it everywhere!
And while you are at it, here’s an easy way to give your citations an extra oomph: embedding Google Maps with your location on your site.
11. Fix Technical Issues
Can you expect to have a good user experience on your site if it’s barely working? I can’t imagine anyone saying “yes”. Unless it’s suffering from special, funny errors that you couldn’t cause on your site deliberately if you tried. More likely than not, your site errors will be annoying and unsightly. (Although nothing is stopping you from creating a funny 404 page. In fact, it’s encouraged.) Scan your site for errors with the Technical Audit tool and fix everything it finds for you. You can adjust the scanning speed if you have a slow site that might return false-positive errors if the scanning tool goes too fast.
Tumblr media
12. Optimize Your Site for Mobile
How big is the mobile web? The way things are going, it’s fairer to say that PCs are competing with mobile devices for online traffic, not the other way around. Still, the two often work in tandem like this: users look up a product on a mobile device and switch to a PC to make a purchase. From this fact alone, I can offer two pieces of advice:
Don’t be too alarmed if bounce rates are high and CTRs are low when examining mobile traffic.
Make your site mobile-friendly so it might convince users to seal the deal right there – without switching to a PC.
Now for achieving mobile-friendliness. There’s quite a lot of work to do, but it all boils down to making your site easy to use on mobile devices. Since you don’t normally make two separate sites for mobile devices and PCs (at least you shouldn’t), your site needs to be optimized for both at the same time. Already a conundrum, don’t you agree? But here are all the necessary steps.
Large, easy-to-read text.
High-quality images with minimum file size.
Mobile responsive design.
Low page load time.
Space between paragraphs of text, links and interactive elements.
You will need to check your progress at some point. That’s when you should test your site with the Mobile Optimization tool.
Tumblr media
Also, try using your site yourself to make the final judgment. Bonus points if you check your site from several devices with different-sized screens.

Member Applications!
After thinking, experimenting and much hair-pulling (not figuratively or metaphorically) I have come to the obvious conclusion that this blog is too much for one disabled person to handle. Part of being multiply disabled is the two-for-one package of knowing first hand why accessibility is important and having decreased ability to practice it, so I need to bring on a team who can help me do this and bring you all a better blog, since my chronic pain is getting in the way of allowing me to do all this and anything else.
I’m after two or three people who can help me with taking the many wonderful stim toy posts floating around Tumblr and can add the resource information that means other people have to do the least amount of scrolling, clicking or researching: image descriptions, direct links to the product in question, prices, alternate sellers, archival tags (I’ll post on how I do this), any seller or product advisory notes. I’d like at least two people to share the workload - so that this becomes something done a few hours a week, not an every day job. I try to run on a queue with a buffer of a few weeks, so there is no requirement to be on Tumblr every day to do this.
This should allow me more spoons for messages, HTML coding the tags pages, asks and my own reviews and tutorials.
Because I am not particularly good at shared projects and because this sort of thing is so far outside my comfort level it’s laughable, please understand that I won’t be granting admin status until I’m more comfortable with this as a shared blog. At this stage, I’d be posting private lists of posts to be formatted and queued and leaving you to post those to the queue, or asking you to save anything cool you find to draft which I can then add to the list.
If this interests you, please check below the read more cut for more information on the kind of people I’m looking for and how to apply:
The Non-Negotiable Mod Attributes List
Adulthood. (Tumblr users over the age of eighteen.) This is because I don’t show my follower list and do allow NSFW blogs to follow me if they don’t practice certain kinds of kink and refrain from interaction. (My belief is that knowledge should be accessible for everyone.) I cannot allow a minor to have access to the activity page.
A willingness to be exposed to NSFW blog titles and avatars on the activity page. I only ask that people who engage in kinks that mirror non-consent and cg/l-type blogs (basically: things that trigger me) don’t follow, which means that active kink and gore blogs who abide by my no-interaction rule do follow me. Again, I don’t want to restrict knowledge.
(While I have a list of people I’d prefer not to follow me, I only actively block, in addition to the above who ignore my right to consent, spammers, individuals I know to be unsafe for the community for various reasons and a few notorious discoursers. I will always listen to you on the matter of blocking someone who is unsafe for you, but I want it to be plain that the activity page is not a safe space.)
Neurodiversity. This place is for ND people and about ND people, and I’d like it to remain run by ND people. You absolutely do not have to be autistic.
People who aren’t REGs/TERFs/exclusionists. This is for my comfort, as a pan aro-ace agender/trans person. It breaks my heart that I must mention this on a stim toy information blog, but discourse’s roots reach everywhere, and I really don’t want to have to develop a relationship with someone knowing we have such wildly differing beliefs on something that hurts me.
(If you blog on a platform of hate for another group, even if said group isn’t mentioned above, I kindly ask that you don’t apply.)
A no-gatekeeping attitude as to which ND people can stim or which ND people should be prioritised in stimming. I’m deeply uncomfortable with conversations on who can’t use the word “stim” or arguments that autistics should be centred in stim spaces. I hope this space is more about unity among stimmers than divisiveness, and I’d like to keep on working to make this so.
Awareness of accessibility. I want this space to serve as many stimmers as possible, and that includes otherwise-disabled stimmers who have difficulty accessing or interacting with information. I absolutely do not know myself all I should about this: I’m just asking for an ability to keep learning.
Reasonable English expression. I would prefer capital letters to begin a sentence, basic punctuation and some sense of when to paragraph. This is also for accessibility: I struggle to read text without capital letters beginning sentences, can’t read all-bolded text and can’t parse long block paragraphs.
(Perfect adherence to English style conventions is often ableist, racist and classist, but some adherence in communication makes it easier for people to derive information without struggle.)
A willingness to check the tags pages for already-used tags before tagging, hunt down direct links and check listings for shipping information, further item details or purchasing information. I spend a lot of time doing this. I’m trying to make the informative posts on this blog contain the basic information people need with a minimum of clicking or searching in the most accessible possible way.
An interest in stim toys. You don’t have to know much about them, because I didn’t before starting this blog, but please have an interest in stim toys and stimming!
Optional Mod Attributes
I’d like to have a North American mod and a European or UK mod at least, if possible, as this broadens our knowledge base.
Queue Wrangler Duties
The addition of image descriptions, links, product details, additional source information and archival tags to posts on my list before adding them to the queue.
Observation of any accessibility/advisory issues about a listing or tutorial - no alt text (I check images using Firebug on Firefox, but that requires the ability to read basic HTML), no captions/descriptions, sound of video, holes that merit a trypophobia tag, etc. I don’t do this perfectly myself and don’t expect perfection from you, but the attempt is awesome.
(If you can’t do or observe certain things because disability, that isn’t a problem.)
The saving of posts to the draft folder – if you happen across something that can be informative with a little work, save it to the draft folder. If you find a great video, a post somewhere not Tumblr, a tutorial, a new store? Anything you think is new, approaches something old in a new way or just too awesome not to share? Save it to the draft folder. I truly want you to help out in finding cool things!
(I ask you to draft it because that way if someone else spotted it, we don’t double-up. My job is to keep track of what’s been posted already, and I can easily delete anything added twice.)
If you happen across a giveaway, sale or other time-sensitive post and have checked the blog to make sure someone else hasn’t tackled it already, please add a description and anything else informative and tag and post it immediately. The sooner these go up, the better, so I’d be very glad for you to post these as you see them.
Patience with me. You’re dealing with a perfectionistic, possessive writer and blogger who fell into this strange thing of having a community blog and is woefully unprepared for it. I’m learning all this on the fly and I’m probably going to make more mistakes than you ever will.
Please note that I do prefer some post formatting ability (for example, in-text hyperlinks, not pasted URLs). This might be extremely nitpicky, but I’m an editor and text designer myself. Neat text makes my soul happy.
Additional
Please write and queue your own reviews, informative posts and tutorials! If you want my watermark so it looks official, it’s yours. If you’d rather post to your own blog and reblog it here, that’s also awesome. I’d very much like to have your thoughts about stim toys made accessible to our followers, so please join in on talking about toys.
I’d also like a bio and any links pertinent to you that we can add to a team page on the sidebar.
If you have a store, an art blog, a book, a website, anything SFW that we can promote to thank you for your work, we’ll post it. I’m sure our lovely followers won’t mind a few non-toy Promotional Sunday posts in return for your efforts here.
Interested?
Send me a submission (it will not be posted) from your main/primary blog answering the following questions:
User name:
Include that of your secondary blog, too, if you think I’ll better know you that way. If you want to be known a certain way, mention this, too.
(Please do this. I know your primary blog user name is already attached to the submission. Write it out for me again anyway.)
Age:
This can be general: mid 20s, 50+. Just indicate to me in some way that you’re not a minor.
Nationality/region:
Tell me where you’re living. You absolutely do not have to give away identifying information.
About:
Tell me about yourself in a paragraph or two - anything you think I need to know or should know. Pronouns, neurodiversity, why you like stim toys, why you think you’ve got patience enough to deal with me, what you had for breakfast, what makes you happy, your special interests/hyperfixations, what you do at school or work, why you want to help out a stim toy blog. Anything. This lets me get to know you a little better!
Show me your work:
Link me to a post containing an image description (anything; it doesn’t have to be a stim toy) written by you so I can see how you do it.
Content restrictions:
Do you have any content you cannot, should not or would not interact with? GIFs, loud videos, moving anything, items with holes, images including hands... Listing these things means that I don’t hand you a list of videos when you can’t hear them or a list of GIF posts when GIFs give you seizures. Inform me so I can better help you, please.
Anything else:
If there’s anything else about you that you think I should know, tell me.
Applications will be open until midnight April 26 AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) or GMT+10.
Thank you, my followers, for all you’ve done to help me out. I truly appreciate it.

Local Security Company SEO Audit
SEO Audit Example Of A Local Security Business
00:01 Hello, this is an SEO site audit for the Three Lion Security Limited, so we met at the networking meeting in Thrapston, and he asked me to have a quick look over his site. So I’ve gone through and done what I would call a simple SEO audit for you, which will highlight a number of the issues you have with the website and I’m listing things that you need to do, a checklist of things that you need to get done to help you improve your ranking. So hopefully you find it useful.
00:58 So I’m just going to take you through your website and show you some of the issues. I’ve got a notepad here where I’ve just taken some notes of some of the issues with the site. I expect this will take about 15 to 20 minutes, so start off with. It’s a, it’s a nice little site. It’s functional, it’s on WordPress, which is good. There are a few kinds of legal things that need to happen. You need to have an EU cookie consent pop up. You’ve probably seen those annoying popups on other websites where you need to have one on here so that you can, you can do that via a WordPress plugin. There are plenty of those. Um, and also you need to have, I can’t find them anywhere, some privacy pages and your terms and conditions pages, especially as a limited company.
01:59 You should really have those on the website as well and you can just pop them in the footer bar here, the footer menu here to keep them out of the way that they really ought to be there. One comment on the homepage is there isn’t really a lot of information and to improve your rankings it will be a good idea to add some more content. One of the biggest issues I see with websites these days is they try and look better than they are useful to Google. So, you know, it looks nice. You got a big header image here and you’ve got the three content boxes here, but the only real content is this a little bit here and it’s not really enough for Google to be able to understand what your site is all about. So let’s just have a quick look at the Moz toolbar.
02:54 This is something that just gives us some information about the page and you’ll see as we go through this that there are some reoccurring themes. A page title, this should be around about 75 characters and yours is 133. And for most of the pages, the page title is too long. So we need to look at reducing the page titles, the Meta description as well, which is here. This is the snippet that shows when somebody does a search and Google, this is too long as well. There should be shorter than this, otherwise, it gets truncated and it doesn’t make sense for the searcher. So we need to look at shortening those on the page. One of the things that most of your pages have is these Meta keywords, now this has been dropped by Google.
03:52 I would remove those keyword tags has probably been done by the Yoast plugin, but you can disable that. So I would get rid of those. We’ve got an H1 tag here. There’s no H1 tag. It will be good and helpful to have an H1 tag, although we’ve got an H2 tag. It was possibly something to do with the theme or it might just be the way in which the text has been formatted, but you would certainly want to have an H1 tag not having an H1 and just having an H2 wouldn’t make any sense to Googlebot. So that needs to be looked at and there’s no bold words or Italics. Ideally, you want to bold your main keyword and italicize some of your main keywords throughout the content, preferably in the first paragraph.
SEO Audit Checklist – Image Optimisation
04:46 This is the ALT tag, a little explanation that you can add to any images that you’ve got on the page so that a web browser can read them and understand what the image is about. And also screen readers use this for the visually impaired. If you’ve got people with accessibility problems, shortsightedness, those kinds of things, then the screen readers will be able to tell them what the images are and all throughout your site, your ALT tags really could do with being better optimised. This is pretty much the standard that we’ve got on every single page. That’s mainly due to the logos and that in the footer. So it will be better to look at improving the ALT tag and again, through WordPress, that’s reasonably straightforward because each image has the facility to add an ALT tag text to it using the media library.
SEO Audit Checklist – Schema Markup
05:51 There isn’t any Schema markup on any of the site. Schema Markup is something that is a code that you put into the site which will tell Google exactly what your page is about in an easy to understand machine language. You should, as a local business, have at least local business markup you can use. You can use a plugin to help you with this and it should ideally be in JSON LD, but it could also be in microdata format, but really it tells Google what your business is, where it is, and also helps to link together your social profiles so it can start to build up an idea of who your business is on the web and start linking those properties together so that when you tweet something or you share something on Facebook, Google can understand that it actually is about your website entity.
SEO Audit Checklist – Secure Website With SSL (https)
06:50 One last issue on the home page, something that is a ranking factor these days, which again now isn’t that difficult to do, is to switch to an https website, a secure website. You’ll need to make sure that you do any redirects from the old site to the new site, but that would also help to give your site a little ranking boost. So, just looking at, these other pages, we’ve got things like security guarding and again, it’s a fairly similar thing. We’ve not got anywhere near enough content on these pages. There should be at least 300 words as a very minimum. And if you’re looking to outrank competitors, then you need to make sure that you’ve got more and better quality content for your pages to make sure that you rank for these. Again, looking at the on-page stuff, we’ve got a page title too long meta-description this a little bit too long.
SEO Audit Checklist – On-Page Elements
08:02 We’ve got meta keywords that need to be removed. We’ve got H1 tag, but really we could do with better optimising that so that it’s more keyword rich. And we’ve got an H2 tag with the content “why use us?” That’s a bit of a waste of a keyword in the H2 tag. Again, no bolding or Italics to identify or highlight the keywords that this page is about. So in an ideal world, you have, for each of these pages, this is your security services page. Your title will reflect that your meta-description will reflect the keywords, the keywords that are bolded in the text reflects that the H1 tags reflect that the H2 tags, the images, the images, ALT tag text on the images reflect that as well. So the whole page is themed around these, the main keyword.
09:03 So I won’t go through the rest of them because they’re all pretty much the same. I’m just moving over to here. Accreditation’s again, it’s just a similar theme. There’s just not much content and Google really doesn’t like what’s known as thin content pages, ones that don’t have much content. So you need to look at putting more information on your pages or combining the pages so that it’s. I said that they’re kind of better laid out. On the meet the team. I thought it was a bit odd because I was expecting to see staff images and that kind of thing and I got an About Us page essentially, so we might want to look at kind of rewording that or doing something so that it seems to make more sense and it looks as if there’s been some copying and pasting as gone on because there’s a lot throughout the whole site.
10:02 There are these areas here where you’ve got odd characters and these are ‘dot formatted’, character’s usually where something’s been copied and paste from word and it’s gone in and WordPress hasn’t quite understood the character and coding that’s gone through, so this all needs to be attended to. It should be fairly straightforward just to go through the text and make the changes so that we get rid of these odd characters. I noticed there was a lot of it on the job vacancies page as well. I’m down here. We’ve got kind of odd characters around here and here, here and various others here and I think on one of the pages right at the bottom where it was it. One of the pages contact us, one of the pages that have got a big banner at the bottom, which is kind of got your motto and that was messed up as well. So let me just see if I can quickly find that for you whilst we’re flicking through.
11:17 The other thing that we can do to the site is what’s called siloing, this is about building buckets of related content. The other thing is to do with silo in and that is where we create content stacks if you like, and where we start linking from our content to relevant content within our site. So we haven’t got any of that at all. So we’re not helping google to understand what the site is about. The other issues looking through my little list here is that we’re looking at targeting these local areas, which is absolutely fine, but there’s nothing on the site other than the keywords that have been put in which needs to be got rid of. That really indicates that you are a local site targeting these areas.
SEO Audit Checklist – Location pages
12:11 So really to do this properly and efficiently it will be a good idea to have a locations page tab here with the various locations and the services that you provide in those locations. And then build out content within each of those that let’s say for Wellingborough. So let’s say you want to provide these four services within Wellingborough where you recreate these pages within the Wellingborough location tab and you then put the content in there and you make the content relevant to, to Wellingborough. If you want to rank locally, you really need to look at doing more about optimising your site for local search intent because at the moment you’re not really taken advantage of that. Although the keywords seem to suggest that that’s what you want. So overall, there are quite a few things from an on-page point of view that need to be looked at.
SEO Audit Checklist – Google My Business Optimisation
13:17 Your Google my business page. That’s an important element because it kinda tells Google that about your business. And really that kind of ties everything together. And the one of the ways, the main ways that Google will tie that together is by using what’s known as the NAPW, which is your name, address, phone number and website, and these details need to be the same across all of your web properties and directory listings. So on your Twitter, on your Facebook, on your Google, My Business page, on your Yelp or Yell.com listings, or any of the free listings that you can get. These all need to be exactly the same and they need to be the same as what is on your Google My Business page, which at the moment is showing this address which is slightly different to what you’ve got is different to what you’ve got on your website and different to what you’ve got.
14:11 Because as we see down here, we’ve got your Registered Address. So it might be better if you put the registered address in your, say your terms and conditions page. And then you had your address down here, which would then match up with what was on the contact page. And the contact page addresses, again, slightly different to this. So that would need to be changed up so that it actually matched the address because it needs to be exact. Say they haven’t got that in the Google My Business listing and the postcode is, is formatted slightly as well. So there’s a little thing, it might not seem much, but in Google’s eyes, they’re as different as chalk and cheese. So you need to make sure that the address is laid out correctly and is the same and consistently the same. Otherwise, you won’t benefit from those mentions, what are known as citations from across the web.
Local Security Company SEO Audit – Call Us For You Own Audit
15:12 So I think we’ve got a good deal of things that we can target to improve your website on-page, you’ve got a lot of keywords here and you have got the opportunity to make some really good content written about this. So a content marketing campaign, creating interesting posts about all of these topics and then getting people to link back to those articles locally will really help you to start to boost the authority of this website and really help to improve your rankings, which will, of course, get you more calls, enquiries and generate more business. So I hope you found that useful I’ve got a separate report which I shall include with the email to you and I’ll send this all over with a link to this video so that you can watch it and if you need to, you can obviously watch it a couple times. So feel free to get in touch if you want some advice on how to get all of this done on the implementation.

Airbnb banned neo-Nazis from booking in Charlottesville — and set a standard for how tech companies can fight hate
Editor's Note: This story was published before the rally in Charlottesville erupted into violence on Saturday, leaving three dead and dozens injured.
This weekend, alt-righters and white supremacists will descend upon Charlottesville, Virginia, as they have throughout 2017. But they may find themselves without a place to party.
That's thanks to Airbnb, which this week removed users who were using the service to book venues as part of their Unite the Right rally, as Gizmodo first reported.
The company learned from some of its users that Unite the Right attendees were organizing logistics on the neo-Nazi website the Daily Storm, which brands itself as "The World's Most Genocidal Republican Website" and has a poster for the event on its front page that urges visitors to join the rally "to end Jewish influence in America." Once Airbnb confirmed that some rally-goers had used the platform to book listings for events associated with the anti-Semitic rally, the home-share site decided to boot those users' accounts.
This wasn't just an easy and correct call for Airbnb. It was also an example of how a platform company can actually make judgments about what is and is not an acceptable behavior, rather than simply waving away controversies by claiming it offers a mere tool for its users. That's something that many deep-pocketed Silicon Valley firms can't seem to figure out—and an area in which, until recently, Airbnb struggled, too.
In this case, the problem that Airbnb had on its hands was clear-cut.
"We've taken over all of the large AirBnbs in a particular area," wrote a user named SCnazi on a Daily Storm message board. "So far, we're close to filling our 7th house. We have 80-90 people, and are a mix of various AltRight groups."
SCnazi continued: "We've set up 'Nazi Uber' and the 'Hate Van' to help in moving our people around as needed, esp. between our off-site locations and Charlottesville."
Airbnb said it booted a number of rally attendees because they "would be pursuing behavior on the platform that would be antithetical" to the community policy," which requires "those who are members of the Airbnb community accept people regardless of their race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age."
Not all tech companies have been as swift to act in similar circumstances. Like Facebook, which following the June terrorist attack in London allowed a post by Republican Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins that called for the hunting and murdering of "radicalized" Muslim suspects to remain online.
Yet a status update made in May by DiDi Delgado, a Black Lives Matter activist, that said "all white people" are racist—an extreme argument to some, but not one that called for violence—was removed and her account was suspended for seven days.
And then there's Twitter, where the alt-right has thrived, using the social media site to broadcast outright hate speech and harass people off the platform. Twitter routinely flounders when asked by its users to help protect them. Last year, actress Leslie Jones was driven off the platform after being barraged by racist tweets and inaction from Twitter in stopping it.
Jones' bad experience made headlines because of her celebrity and the involvement of Milo Yiannopoulos. But as almost any Jewish journalist who has ever written critically about Trump or any woman who has ever railed about systemic sexism can attest, harassment on the network is very real—and frequently goes unaddressed by Twitter.

— Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) July 18, 2016
Airbnb's decision to not allow its community to be an organizing tool for a white supremacist gathering is an example of a tech company taking its commitment to community safety seriously. It's also an example of a company maturing and learning.
In April, Dyne Suh — a woman who booked a cabin in California on Airbnb — was alerted only minutes before arriving that her reservation was canceled after the host sent a text message that read: "I wouldn't rent to u if you were the last person on earth. One word says it all. Asian."
Last year the hashtag #AirBnbWhileBlack proliferated on Twitter as a place for black users to recount their experiences being denied places to stay even when the listings were marked as open. Quirtina Crittenden, who started the hashtag after being routinely rejected by users with open listings, said that when she changed her photo to a generic city skyline and her name to Tina, she had no problem booking a place to stay.
While these incidents reflect racism on the part of Airbnb hosts and not values the company embraces, Airbnb decided that it had a serious role to play in making sure its service wasn't a place that fostered discrimination. In April, the company entered into an agreement with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing that would allow the regulatory agency to perform racial discrimination audits for hosts who have three or more listings on the site, which the state has long conducted of landlords to ensure that fair-housing laws are upheld.
Because of that agreement, the woman who rejected Suh because of her race is now required by the state to pay $5,000 and take a college-level Asian American studies course, as well as agree to comply with the state's fair-housing laws. Airbnb's latest move demonstrates the company is willing to act proactively—as opposed to, say, waiting for one of the partygoers to hang an anti-Semitic banner on the front of the house they booked.
More frequently, platforms only respond to such incidents when someone gets hurt or a news outlet embarrasses the company after a major misstep. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg initially refused to acknowledge that Facebook had a fake-news problem that was causing misinformation to circulate and potentially even influence voters, calling it "a pretty crazy idea" in November after Trump won.
Now his company has "disputed" tags and has teamed up with fact-checking organizations to help combat the spread of misinformation. (Its latest effort, "Related Articles," may end up being the most successful yet at tackling falsified articles on the network.)
Of course, social media websites designed for free-flowing communication are much harder to moderate than a website with a focus as narrow as home-stays. But those sites can still follow Airbnb's lead: When people in your community complain, you need to investigate and take action. That means not being afraid of pissing off thousands of people who use their platforms to share hate speech—which, yes, sometimes bleed into broader accusations of partisan bias, which social media sites are particularly loathe to incur. In an industry where losing users means losing money, booting anyone is a big deal, but it can also send a big message.
Zuckerberg said in May that Facebook was dealing with its content moderation dilemma by hiring 3,000 more people to work on the issue. But adding thousands of more staff to deal with the problem is unlikely to change a thing if Facebook refuses to make a clear commitment to protect its users first and foremost.
That means meeting with groups representing people who have been adversely affected by the Facebook's current content moderation strategy to get a clear understanding how the platform isn't working for everyone. But that's not happening. In January, a coalition of 77 civil rights groups wrote a letter to Facebook requesting a meeting to address what the organizers called the "disproportionate censorship of Facebook users of color." Facebook declined.
Twitter, for its part, says it's trying to curb harassment. Last month, the company reported that it's "taking action on 10x the number of abusive accounts every day compared to the same time last year" and now works to "limit account functionality or place suspensions on thousands more abusive accounts each day."
But that's based on internal data, and whether or not those fixes are truly meaningful depends on how many accounts it censured before. Still, something is better than nothing, even if it has taken years for Twitter to step up.
While Airbnb did the right thing in this case, monitoring situations on a case-by-case basis is unlikely to be very effective. Its platform is run on software that can book reservations much, much faster than a human can erase them. And that means that the company might need to use software to monitor for and flag bigoted interactions on the site. For example, if a black user is repeated being denied booking requests that are otherwise open, technology could flag that.
There are serious limits to policing hateful activities. It's nearly impossible to read a person's intentions; we also probably wouldn't want Airbnb to wade into political stances that don't involve outright hatred and calls for violence. Which is why having a clear, easy way for people to report problems they are experiencing, as well as a commitment to quickly investigate and act appropriately, is important, too.
And if the racists, sexists, and anti-Semites gathering in Charlottesville don't like it, they can go make their own Airbnb. It's a free country.

Our Passions
Our Passions.
Date: April 18, 2017 Tuesday, 4:13pm break, end 8:50pm
Notes:
Location + setting: I’m sitting outside, at Margot’s house (or as many of you will learn, my adopted little sister’s house) I’m waiting for them to get back from Washington. They’ve been gone for almost a week and (I almost said kinda but no) I really really miss them!
It’s super nice out, I’m listening to my alt-j and my spotify “new hits” playlist times are good.
Update, I am now inside. After spending around 3 hours on this piece, I feel very proud. I hit the mark stylistically and had a few concise statements. I hope this makes sense and now I’m going to work on some homework enjoy…
Our Passions.
So what inspired me to write today? Well, starting off, I actually have time and second I have energy. Now what really inspired me to write Today? Obviously if I’m asking this question nothing from above. Those reasons just happen to make the experience more enjoyable. I was inspired today in my car and in school during Advanced Placement Government.
I was sitting in my AP government class today. It was 3rd hour so about halfway through the day. As usual, I was listening to my teacher, one of my favorites by a mile long shot explain how political polling works. As he talked and talked his speech became monotonous.  Regardless of the fact I thought his class is especially interesting.
I started looking around at his room, which is, let me just explain to you right now, a palace compared to the average classroom. It includes a wall filled to the brim with a myriad of colorful license plates from all corners of the globe, political memorabilia, and even some movie posters carefully pinned down like a family portrait. Only as I shifted my eyes over to the window framing a overcast cloudy sky, did my thoughts begin to diverge from how many people it took to conduct a valid political poll, (it’s only 1500 I paid my teacher some attention).
As I started looking out of the window, as I usually start to do when I’m tired or lacking caffeine, I slipped into a daydream. Today was not the typical; the dream was not centered on after school plans or a cute boy i’d seen the day before. As turned side to side softly in my vibrant red yellow and blue rolling chair, my mind stepped from my seat. It began looking upon the classroom as if no one there knew anything different, the teachers, the lessons and the furious note taking became foreign. I became an outsider. Similar to a young boy from Africa, never knowing anything about higher education but looking into the classroom on this gloomy, overcast day, I wasn’t a student anymore. I was a non biased third party, transcended into the future. In that instance I thought of college. How everyone in my class would sit through so many more lectures and so many more hours of the black and white. The white paper page outlined with black ink or the white screen illuminated with black text. They’ll see it over and over again. This world I was taken to felt so eerily familiar and dangerously comforting.
As I realized my current place and time, I snapped back to reality. I had an upcoming quiz in the next few minutes so I shifted my head back to the board. Clearing the memory from my mind. I wrote down on my notes, “out of body experience, not in classroom”.
Throughout the day I pushed my thoughts about that college and the perpetual classroom from my head and as I cruised to my friends house, blasting rap music and skipping my track meet. As I confidently edged closer and closer to my friend’s house, with Beyonce’s Diva playing from my back speakers. The sun and blue sky lit my way and as i tend to do I started my deep thinking about passion, drive, what motivates us.
How come I used to be so motivated to run track and now it was like a chore or work? You can brag and feel good about working hard at a job cleaning dishes by citing your work ethic. You could brag about taking your dog out to a sibling citing you helped your parents. Even though these things are not particularly enjoyable by themselves, we do them to impress other people. Just like I do in track. Sure I like looking good on the track. Sure I like feeling refreshed after a run and scoring a new personal best time. Sure I like the occasional laugh with my friends and the “job well done” from the coach. Sure I do it majorly to impress others.
Sports correlate in impressions and so might school, impressing parents with great grades in challenging classes. The need to impress becomes a sphere, surrounding you like a hamster running on it’s wheel there is seemingly no end in sight.
Think of your life as a walk in the amazon rainforest, not a circle reminiscent of a hamster wheel but a series of overlapping paths and lines. At one point, yes the odyssey through the vivacious but mystical jungle will end. Yet, yes the choice to go anywhere you want on the path always rests with you.
So many people fall victim to the cobra of comfort that coils itself around its victim and swallows it into a deep tomb of ignorance. Basically comfort with something in school or in sports as I have been reflecting to is like the cobra in your path. Cobras can be camofaluged with the most innocent of objects such as a tree. Seemingly harmless unless you fail to look closer. A cobra, a trap, pulling down a veil over opportunity.
What keeps you truly alive is in my mind being able to spot the benefits and disadvantages of a situation and not be afraid to change, or follow your passion.
My father always wished he had the guts to follow his passion in music, reminiscing, “I wish I would have stuck with music”. This starkly contrasts to his reality, working at an auto factory.
If you want to try writing like me, start writing what you feel passionate about, even if the words that flow onto your paper end up sounding like a kindergartener's first written story, it’s a start. No matter how long you’ve been diverging from your path to dreams, hobbies or ambitions, it’s never too late to turn around. Starting can be as simple as picking up a paintbrush. Whether the excuse was money, time or resources, there are more opportunities than ever to animate a passion into a tangible, sustainable way of living. You only know if you try.
Now moving more into depth on passions. My definition of a passion is something that you wake up every morning, looking forward to or wake up thinking about. Honestly some may think of a passion as carefree; an activity only stress inducing in the slightest. This isn’t always true. Take running for example, some people have a passion for it because they genuinely enjoy the steady rhythm of the soles of their feet beating beneath them. Yet, taking that passion to the next level requires diligent training and strong dedication.
Living a life that has purpose is a skill. It’s a fine trade such as a master artisan of architecture or a world class surfer, riding the twisting current of a wave that splashes salt water on sunburnt toes. This skill takes effort to develop and even more effort to develop around modern life. Old age is the most common catalyst.
The catalyst to a passion filled life is old age and mostly the security that allows heads filled with grey hair to live off their hard earned taxpayer money. This increases security and therefore allows this generation to step out of their comfort zone.
The system of a developed nation is the most advanced society has ever embraced. Go to school, and do well, and get into a good college, and get a good degree and get a job to pay off those years of college, and then have enough money to support a family. The system embraces one thing and one thing only. I don’t even need to type it, we all know the green eyed monster is almost as common as the green grass in a suburban neighborhood. Money seems to be the driving factor controlling many lives in a century of glitz, glamour and technology.
Although this system is easily open to the most dazzling spectrum of opportunities, it also holds the heaviest weight of responsibility. This weight is often too cumbersome, limiting those opportunities to the people brave enough to see them. They see them by stepping from their path and observing the jungle; a variety of trees, flowers and animals otherwise hidden in peripheral vision.  The cumbersome weight holding many back in everyday life is the pride of millions of Americans today, equality.
Taxes and housing and electric and water and car insurance and gas and grocery costs and utilities and rent and phone bills and student loans and homeowner loans… the list is almost endless. These responsibilities, some promoting equality flow through the jungle as a everlasting river; gently supplying life but just as abruptly drowning you in rushing rapids.
It’s getting late, it’s only a tuesday and I need to snap back to reality and start my homework.
In a nutshell, a synopsis of my idea here is to never be complacent. Never take the journey of life for granted. Having a passion and having the guts to follow it is one of the most challenging things life can offer. Only, surprise surprise, life is that way. Afterall it is a jungle, oozing with temptations, mysteries and hardship.
In my life, I’m starting to realize, my journey is not going to be repeated. It’s only going to happen once. Not in my 30s or not in my 60s. This moment and it’s opportunities are never going to be presented again. School and sports are important to me, not just to impress everyone but to also better myself as an individual. Yet, even though these things are important, they’re general and nothing exquisit.
I feel like I’m trying to mold myself into a diamond with the pressure of a normal 10 pound weight. I believe Schools and Sports do present incredible opportunities only, the real opportunities lie outside of it, in the real world that’s  mixed with a healthy dose of passion. You just need to learn to turn over the next branch and look.
Btw: this is just a draft of my thoughts on paper & a hobby that I want to grow with and learn more about (aka my writing is not mechanically perfect)
Have an amazing day everyone & Peace out butter scout!
Love liv
