had a dream where danny gonzalez and drew gooden switched channels and both started running car washes. well actually it didn't make sense it was like drew gooden had a car wash and then travis schuldt the actor who plays ben the soldier in it's always sunny in philadelphia was there and he had a car wash and danny gonzalez was doing something but i don't remember what it was. i don't remember the details exactly but i remember both of the car washes had assistants and it kept switching perspectives and drew's would be a very bright and fun environment and i remember them spinning some kind of wheel to figure out an activity. and then it cut to the other one and he was like spinning a wheel too but his said "start and stop time" like it was something pathetic and significantly less fun. and i don't know why but every time it cut back to travis's there'd be a moment where he was talking and the camera would switch focus and you'd notice his assistant had been there the whole time. the last time it happened he was talking and it switched focus and she was standing right there in front of the camera facing the side. and there wasn't even anything creepy about the way she was standing or looking but i remember it was so scary. it was like a horror movie. and like when i woke up i sat up and i was just sitting there terrified thinking about that shot of her coming into focus. i wish dreams made sense so this could have some kind of internal logic but this is all i remember

(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 95 minutes of 'The Giant Mechanical Man’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

Again...the film gets a bump because of that conversation between Tim and Pauline.

Of course I constantly hope that I’d come across a film that is able to scale the heights of ‘Enough Said’....but not expecting it of the majority of the RomComs I watch.

What I’m not so crazy about: Doug left as a caricature. (While the rest of the characters in the film get more depth ---- which makes them just doing the best they can....compared to Doug....)

HIGHLIGHT:

INT. TIM'S APARTMENT (LOUNGE ROOM) - NIGHT

PAULINE stands in the middle of the room, lost in thought. TIM approaches with another box and a dress shoe.

TIM There was also this box under the bed with some letters. And...

He hands her a box.

TIM ...there's a box here.

PAULINE Oh, thanks.

TIM You're missing a shoe?

He puts the strappy black stiletto on the box she's holding.

PAULINE Shoe, yeah. Thank you.

TIM I think there's some books.

He heads to the windowsill where books are piled up.

PAULINE I also wanted to apologize to you.

TIM For what? You don't have to apologize.

PAULINE Um, for what I said about---That I never believed in you.

TIM Oh, that.

PAULINE It was harsh, and I'm sorry.

TIM It's okay. I'm going to quit that stuff, anyway. Nobody really seems to get it.

PAULINE Tim, you can't quit.

She walks over to him.

PAULINE What!? No.

TIM It's a worthless skill. It's...It's not like I'm a piano player or a painter or something.

He shrugs.

TIM It's got no value.

PAULINE I was angry when I said all that, Tim. I don't think it's true.

He's not buying it.

PAULINE I know you're going to take this thing, and it'll evolve...into, I don't know! Something bigger. Wherever your brain takes it.

He chuckles and looks out the window.

PAULINE Because you don't see the finish line.

He looks at her dubiously,

PAULINE You don't ever put that pressure on yourself. And---And that's so great about you.

The silence hangs between them.

TIM I'm really sorry.

PAULINE Why?

TIM Because I let you down and because I wasn't enough.

PAULINE Tim, you didn't let me down. Okay? I think we just grew in different directions.

She tears up.

PAULINE But, I'd still really like to be your friend.
