I don’t say that often about many places, cause it usually takes me a while to get my bearings and understand the true nature of a place.

But I loved it! 🥰

What I thought was just going to be a day of me doing light travel and eating, turned out to be such a culturally immersive experience from just walking down streets.

Considering this was my first stop 🛑 in South America, I truly came to understand why people love Peru so much…,𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝐡𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

And I was able to get back and forth starting with just a quick Uber ride, right out of the airport.

Although I was running on short time, I almost didn’t want to leave.

This was truly phenomenal first stop on my South American journey.

So I have to tell you guys, despite constantly sharing travel content, for some reason beauty brands love reaching out to me. 😂

And interestingly enough, I tend to have folks comment on my skin and hair regimen, even in travel.

I’m a minimalist at best, and really only use 3 or 4 products for my hair and skin - which surprises people too, especially when I tell them which products I use topically.

.

But even for myself, I’m always surprised when people ask about my skin for instance, because believe it or not I used to have horrible, acne-prone skin and dark spots. I’ve since gotten that under control, but now I mainly deal with eczema and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. These are probably two of the most common skin-related issues faced by people of color.

.

When it comes to hair, I’ve always had long hair. But if you’ve followed me long enough, you’ll know I was always protective styling my own hair with natural twists. It was a drastic change when I decided to big chop over a year ago - one in which I’ve embraced since.

.

I have to say, travel has had a great impact on my skin and hair, for the good and the bad. At this point, I kind of just accept it for what it is.

So I guess I’m just curious to ask,

Imagine, I’m the only Black employee at this place which was “mistakenly” in my contract (according to HR) which they fill with ONLY their White South Africans and Filipino employee so all day I sit in a staff room full of spoken Taglaog and Afrikaans. No one makes conversation with me and all I receive are stares from the other members of staff and parents. And not the cute quick glances but flagrant ones from hints of disdain. (I work in Southeast Asia).

My response? Silent anger. I don’t even bother to go to the staff room anymore as there is no reason to waste some minutes of my day staring at a desk before my next class. I started to stare back at anyone I catch doing it to me and I will not back down on that.

The audacity of my supervisor (White South African) and the HR lady (Asian woman) to sit me down and ask, “We have observed that you keep to yourself.” and started mentioning observations they made via the cctv cameras and raised “concerns” about never being able to find me on camera or see me in the staff room.

Not sure where I’m going with this but in summary: If someone shows up to work and does what is expected of them, substantially and without causing any drama, leave them alone.
