they're both sorta outcasts at preschool, so naturally they sat around alone together, for different reasons. they're definitely the closest to each other as friends, but its probably more just Dave tolerating Shawn's blabbering about zombies and wacky hijinx (god help me). Shawn is a lot more hyper and imaginative, so it compliments Dave's constant moping well

I guess the one thing they do have in common is that they both are willing to keep each other safe... or at least, their own separate ideas on how too keep 'safe'
