y'all big finish is fucking crazy anyways here's two art things I arted after listening to "master" (you know the audio drama in which it is revealed that the doctor beat another kid to death with a rock for bullying him and the master when he was eight and then tried to gaslight the master into thinking he was the one who did it. yeah you know. that one)

Sometimes I think I haven't been too long in or searched much about the Master lore's, right? Until it's 11pm and I am writing a random one-shot that came up in my head and I have to stop and ponder if the drums are in the Master's head because the Doctor rocked someone and Rassilon decided to put a signal his head but he refused thus it was implanted on the Master OR in the last sanction Rassilon needed a signal thing-y to come back so he sent an order back through miss Jade-Death in time so the Doctor rocked a man to install said signall.

AND THE FACT ONE OF THE DOCTORS BIGGIST FEARS IS FIRE AND ALONG WITH INFERNO THERE WAS ALSO THE BURNING OF TROVICS BODY AND IN MODERN WHO THE BURNING OF GALAFREY WHY DID NO ONE PREPARE ME

okay well the doctor bludgeoned a kid to death to save the master and then they held hands as they burned his body. by a river yeah it was by a river. yeah they were just children. and then the doctor made the master believe it was he who had committed the murder. so.

What I love about this fandom is that, no matter how sad the Master's backstory is, we never let it excuse his actions. I just think it sets a really healthy precedent not only for behaviour towards other villains or fandoms, but for how we treat people in our own lives, too.

Going through absolute shit in your childhood does not excuse being an absolute asshole later.

And we have the ultimate example of this-

Most of the fandom agrees he was probably abused by his dad, then he had to look into the untempered schism (which sent him mad+ he gained the drums), got taken away from his family to go to the academy (which he said deprived him of a childhood). His friend group fell apart after two of them fucking DIED and one of them betrayed the others, his best friend got expelled, his friends all left. But, not before he almost drowned and his best friend killed his bully and then pushed the guilt onto him. He and his best friends ended up rivals, the only contact they let themselves have was the fighting, and then the war happened. He witnessed such atrocities- possibly had to fight part of it as a CHILD (according to one comic), had PTSD, was kept in a vault by their bestie for 70 yrs, complete with guilt and general mental fucked upedness, killed themself and got killed by themself, who had just discovered that the drums were put into their head as a child BY THE BASICALLY GOD OF THEIR SOCIETY to use him as a homing beacon. I won't even go into the terror of finding out your entire planet was destroyed, or that it was your best friend who did that, or dying over and over, or whatever the hell was going on in Chibnall's era.

What I love about this fandom is we never let all of this be an EXCUSE. They can be mitigating factors and explanations but they can never, ever be excuses.

Because he's done terrible things- he's taken over and destroyed so many planets, he tortured Martha's family, he turned the whole of Earth into a factory and the humans into slaves, he killed a lot of people and basically led Bill to her death, tried to manipulate 12 into killing Clara, DID manipulate things so 12 and Clara met and almost destroyed time because of it, killed children, destroyed his own people (if you believe Chibnall), rose a cyber army of human dead people (what about the sanctity of the dead my guy????) And gave it to their bestie for a bday present... I could go on.

Explanations are useful for turning someone into your babygirl, your poor pathetic meow meow, but they should never excuse terrible acts like this.

URGENT NOTICE

The student known as Torvic has been reported missing by his roommates and several of his tutors. Classmates recall seeing him last at dinner two nights ago, where he announced he was “heading down to the River Lethe to have some fun.” He has not been seen since. Various students may be asked to report to the council for questioning. Any leads as to Torvic’s whereabouts will be considered invaluable.

thinking about how seven was all "oh you don't blame me🥺🥺 really🥺🥺🥺 you think i was just a child who couldn't have know what would happen🥺🥺" after death revealed who actually killed torvic and john wasn't angry about it.. like he's so happy that his already enormous guilt wasn't reinforced even more. it's adorable.

Thinking about how The Master’s nickname at the Academy was Koschei, of all things. If he chose that name or accepted it. However he adopted it, I wonder if he read that tale in the Academy libraries, on the red grass next to Theta, sympathized with him. The wizard who was so afraid of dying that he hid his heart inside an egg. While Theta was learning about earth biology from stealing archives with his help. Koschei had read Der Sandmann, and maybe some things got lost in translation because the book never said if this was a real account or not. Maybe an all too familiar feeling of dread overtook him as he read of a dark looming figure who would steal the eyes of children, who stole the childhood of Nathanael. He who found hope in a lie. Who found beauty not in truth because the story said that nothing in Nathanael’s life was true. But back to the wizard Koschei because, I wonder how long that name dictated his life. I wonder if it followed him all the way to the end of Gallifrey. I wonder if he remembered. I wonder if he knew. 

If me and my best friend killed our childhood bully and had to burn the body to hide the evidence we would simply not be changed by the narrative
