This breakup makes more sense to me. They’re both at fault for being cruel to each other. And it’s hard to see the loving, tender side of their relationship when they weren’t really given that much time to explore it before the shit hit the fan.
Aedion getting discharged as General, that’s rough buddy. And Aelin still isn’t recognized as Queen by Darrow. Probably it was a bad choice to do this whole Lysandra charade… lol… even if Aelin comes back, guns-a-blazing, ready to rule, he’s probably gonna hold this against her for this show of irresponsibility. It was partially her plan, so… he’s not wrong…. Darrow’s an asshole but he also kind of knows things and I respect him for some reason

Queen of Shadows is even better than the first time I read it, last year.
Throne of Glass read along - A @throneofterrasen event.
At chapter 30 these are my thoughts (no continue reading cut, bear with my thoughts):
Nesryn deserves to be in the story. She can analyze the situation, she can do her job, she knows what she wants to obtain and work to get it. This saga has so many cleaver characters that she shouldn't stay aside and join the MC crew.
Chaol is scared out of his mind. He feels inferior to the big events that are happening in the world and when something happen that he doesn't know how to react to, he reads it the wrong way. And when things are explained... Chaol.exe stops working.
Manon and her Thirteen are so cleaver that I don't know how they went on 80+ years bearing with Grandma Blackbeak. And what they offered Elide...
Asterin and Manon calling Elide 'witchling' is super cute ahaha she is cleaver and beautiful and needs to be treated with respect. I'm glad Manon was there when Vernon spat those things about Elide's father. Plus, I get it when Asterin asked her if she was 15 or 16 and she is 18. People still think I'm younger because I'm smaller than my age haha.
Lysandra is lovely, truly. Her character is already so complex, her thoughts so full and she even helped Aelin with Aedion's rescue. And then, let's not forget what she did for Evangeline.
Aedion. Aedion gives me one of those "I'm her older brother and will protect my little sister with all I am". And when Aelin and he made eye contact at the birthday party, I've got shivers and cried a bit.
Rowan. That's it. The reunion is adorable. The hair-washing is intimate. The "Someday I want to see you wear this" has my heart. So that's it. Rowan.
Aelin is doing a good job. She has plans and plans for the plans and I don't know how the girl keeps track of everything without writing them down, if not at the start of the book. And her esitation towards Dorian shows that she doesn't want to kill him.
And finally, Dorian. Dorian baby needs a hug and to be reminded that he is good, he is nice and his magic doesn't define who he is. I'm still not over the "I love you" from Chaol: brotp to its peak.

So what you’re saying is that we take the reputation conception and implement that through inversion to what you wish you were. With a huge fracturing at any specification of the inversion. Sorry to begin in the middle. It’s 24 May 2023. I’m trying to stay with this very slippery thread. It’s about how the shattering of reputation is into grid squares by frequency and wavelength, meaning by some specific gs process, and how the threads of that shattering becomes Things, because there must be a Thing which Attaches to the threads of gs.
That would be the best description of God yet. That is: there must be a Thing which Attaches to the threads of gs means that at any level of existence, there must be a Thing. That Thing includes any version of God, which clearly makes sense as explanatory Things which fill the gaps between what we see and what we don’t know or what we feel is missing. So Thing includes at the highest level that which organizes at that level. This is not the same as saying there is a Thing in charge, but rather the meaning is exactly that we get the God we deserve because there must be intermediary layers between the Thing in charge and what we think God means and does. It’s like the limit I run into, which I’ve been saying more often, that I can’t remember everything at once all the time. I can remember it well, but that doesn’t mean the recall is instantaneous. The reason is that new Pathways have to connect this new approach or form to existing. We see in that the misidentification of paths is built in: this actually relates to the Chaiton constant because there are a number of errors which can be made before you realize it’s the wrong path, and this is clearly related to the string length, to the distance of the thread.
This is also why people can see an error being made by others. An external, 3rd End perspective adds gs processing which fits across the space, meaning a string length. And that 3rd End can see an apparent meaning, like an obvious End, because that 3rd End’s reading is of externalities, meaning it’s Triangular over gs. Being on the 1-0Segment is Triangular within gs. What is the best notation? I’m up in the air. How about Togs for Triangular over gs and Tigs for Triangular inside gs? Let’s at least try it. That 3rd End’s reading is Togs, while the reading along the 1-0Segment is Tigs. Woiks?

It felt a bit ridiculous to be defining images and approaches to and from God as intermediary to a Thing which includes those. Then it’s like the High Council to me: I have no idea what goes on beyond what I can see, and I know that what I can see there is what is reduced to present to me. That’s why it’s a Storyline. Yes, used Storyline to show the existence of God but also the relative nature of any approach to God.
As for reflecting, we have that model already: what you see in front of you reflects your fears, your hopes, your insecurities, your self, your family, your community, your nation. That is Tigs. Makes me laugh, but it is Triangular inside grid squares, which means inside the CM1 that inverts over CM1 into the world of Togs, which is Triangular over gs.
Can I map that? As a process, I see 4 sheets interwoven so some input, like a new grid square, arrives at the edge, and the awareness of that translates through the sheet, say in every direction, so it reaches over the grid squares to CM1, where that awareness then spreads out inside the next sheet. This is orthogonal, as drawn, so one HG of sheets is to the limit of the internal definition of the Thing, to the Boundary of that Thing, which I can FINALLY see as separate from the physical shell, meaning the internal and external align 1-0//0-1 over CM1 in both Togs and Tigs. Or Tigs and Togs!
That is crucial to the inversion process by which identity entangles. It is how infiltration occurs too, for good or bad. That it occurs on the edges of your identity where 1 and 0 can flip. That simple model explains a vast array of human behavior. It’s very clear in animals.
That really fills out the shell and internal identity conception. They are now required, not optional.

Ooof, I don't know if I have it in me to reread TOG yet haha. I re-read it last year for the first time and all the feels!!! Rereading KOA for the first time was a trip! I miss them so much.
ACOTAR is just my comfort read. I like to read it once a year if I can! SO, the plan is most likely in January 2023!

Sometimes I just think about how Chaol had never even killed anyone before the competition, yet had trained his while life and trained others to do so. And how Dorian had never been raised to even consider the possibility of ending anyone else’s life, choosing to surround himself with books and life (much to his fathers dismay,) yet growing up to be someone who wouldn’t give it a second thought if anyone were to harm those he loves.
There’s something so heart wrenching to me how Chaol was the one who was meant to protect Dorian, but it ended up being the reverse. That was really all Chaol ever wanted. He devoted his life to protecting him at all costs and yet despite that, he had never taken another life until it was absolutely necessary, and even then it wasn’t easy for him. And then think about Dorian. Dorian who grew up learning stuffy court politics rather than war and bloodshed, standing up and protecting Chaol with his life. Without hesitation. Sacrificing himself and his freedom so that Chaol might have a chance to live.
It’s the complete reversal of their characters after QOS. Chaol was always meant to be the warrior, the protector yet he ended up being the most sympathetic and kind hearted leader. He ties his life to a healer he falls in love with. Dorian on the other hand, was always meant to be protected. And not just by Chaol, but by literally everyone. As seen with Aelin willing to sacrifice herself even though he just as easily could. And yet despite all that, and despite being coddled his whole life, he turned out to be one of the most daring, the most selfless characters we see. Dorian going from the crown prince who would never be seen hurting a fly to the “You once asked me where I stand on the line between killing to protect and killing for pleasure … I’ll stand on the other side of that line when I find your grandmother” and the “It is not such a hard thing, is it—to die for your friends.” King we see emerge from the rubble of his shattered home.
Chaol came out of the shattered glass castle as a broken, deeply scarred man, who found his healing in himself. Dorian came out of the glass castle as the man who shattered it. They both grow and heal and change, but it’s just so interesting, the vastly different paths they took. And how similar Chaol’s journey was to how we expected Dorian’s to be, and vice versa.
The protector, becoming the protectee. Such a hard hitting trope.

Last night I finished Kingdom of Ash (🥳)
I had a physical copy, but for a good portion of this read, I was reading an ebook I checked out from the library. Unfortunately, too many people were waiting for this book, and Libby automatically returned it when I only had about 30% left, so I had to lug around my gigantic dictionary-sized copy with me everywhere to finish. (😵💫)
I apologize for doing a bad job of taking notes, i literally stopped doing it about 20 chapters before the end, but if you’re interested, here’s some raw thoughts up until that point.
IT WAS QUITE THE JOURNEY.
And what a fulfilling end to an epic series!

It’s all starting to come together. This fear, this hype, the whole adventure coming to its final conclusion. I’m very excited for when Dorian shows up like a total badass with all three wyrdkeys. I’m very excited for the demolition of Erawan, and maybe Maeve too if Aelin can find it in her.

I think I said before how much I love Evangeline. It’s good to have diversity of characters, and someone like her, who is a literal child, getting to have perspective on some of these big moments, it makes the world so much richer.
I also like Darrow for part of the same reason - even though he’s extremely unlikeable, personality wise.
The combination of Darrow and Evangeline isn’t something I knew I needed, but I actually like it a lot.
Aedion will be alright, honey. We have to have faith.

That flicker of sorrow in Dorian’s eyes, when Chaol introduced him to his wife, I know it was probably just brotherly sorrow that he couldn’t be there for the wedding day, but I absolutely believe he was sorry that Chaol is off the market and he’ll never get his chance to make out with him now.
(I’m going down with this ship, toot toot, Dorian x Chaol, sinking beneath the surface)
Why! Why do we have to die! It’s so dumb!
I don’t want either of you to do it. I vote, we anger the gods, and do what we want, and live long happy lives and fall deeper and deeper in love. I vote we die of natural causes, at the ripe old age of 200 or whatever.

The issue of dying in place of your friends is so selfish. I especially love Rowan right now for fighting to keep Aelin’s heart beating.
She wouldn’t let him die to save her, so what makes her sacrifice any better?
I like the idea of both Aelin and Dorian giving “half” of themselves. Maybe they’ll only die a little bit. Only mostly dead, like in The Princess Bride. And what could be a better reason for living than true love!

I still think Darrow is a piece of shit, and it’s kind of amazing that he has so little respect for Aelin after all that she’s managed to accomplish. I think Lysandra didn’t do her any favors pulling the shapeshifter decoy game, but she has a point. The army, the whole armada, and all of these warriors, are here to serve Aelin, not some dusty old man from a random court in her kingdom. He better learn soon to start affording her some respect. What more can she possibly do to prove herself?

Oh god damn it. I love how Maeve and Erawan knew Dorian was hiding there the whole time and STILL decided to have their casual conversation and catch him up on the plot. Now he knows Aelin is safe and that Chaol is probably safe - and all about Maeve and her valg heritage.

Um? Uhhh.
Of the two evils, I would definitely describe Maeve as the lesser, since she spent centuries just playing Fae Queen, compared to Erawan who actually wants to take over the world - it’s possible that she could be bargained with and allowed to stay in this realm. They both do want the same things - in a way - to shut the doors and bar all other valg from ever entering. I find it very interesting that Dorian is willing to ally with her. But I do think offering her an alliance through marriage is a bit much, Lmao. If anything I’d let her help with the key quest, wield them to seal off the Valg realm and send Erawan back, and then tell her to fuck off back to her own continent, never to darken their doorway again.
Dorian’s really interesting right now. He’s right here in the thick of it. I don’t want the scene to change to another character but I get the feeling it’s going to real quick here.

Aw, but that scene between Gavriel and Chaol was so sweet. Maybe you can let him father your kid; too. Or he can be like, sort of a grandfather. Since your kid probably won’t get to know their own grandfather.
Did the Ironteeth witches leave because Manon summoned every witch to her legion? Or are they still here to make life worse for everyone?
I mean - they’re not HERE - so, hopefully they’re doing the cool thing and joining forces with Manon.
But the air is stagnant, and maybe something horrible is about to happen.

MAEVE. I want to believe that you are our friend, that you just came from a spooky, shitty planet and you truly do like this world and want to stay here. I want to believe that after Erawan is destroyed, you’ll behave yourself, and won’t try to bring about the end of life as we know it. But I don’t trust you? You kind of tortured the main character - viscously - and you psychologically tortured Rowan by making him believe that his first mate died pregnant with their child. Like, listen, I think people can come back from the dark side, but you’re pretty deep in it, Maeve. You have got a LOT to atone for, and if you think befriending Dorian is gonna make up for everything then you’re fucking wrong.

And Chaol’s life.
Maybe even Dorian’s life. (Although you broke up with him so that he wouldn’t be in danger. He is a prince and kinda the king’s son so maybe he’s wearing plot armor BUT STILL)
I feel like the plot is picking up. I’m starting to get a little more engaged in the story. (I’m easy to win over what can I say)
Everyone’s my favorite character but Nehemia most of all and obviously this new guy Archer.

"Fae magic is passed down through their bloodlines. It doesn't appear at random. Perhaps these people came here. And then were forgotten by the world, forces good and evil. Perhaps they knew this place was far away enough to remain untouched. That wars would be waged elsewhere. By them." He jerked his chin to a carving of a Valg soldier. "While the southern continent remained mostly mortal-held. While the seeds planted here by the Fae were bred into the human bloodlines and grew into a people gifted and prone to healing magic.”
Uh… Implying Yrene is demi fae as well?
“Perhaps that is why whoever it is that's been stalking the Torre, was hunting me," Yrene whispered. "If they are indeed sent from Morath ...They don't want us realizing any of this. Through healing you."
Maybe she’s a powerful fae princess just like Aelin, the long lost bloodline of some third sibling to Maeve and Mab.

A conversation about exes with your new lover is always hard to have. But Yrene is kinda his therapist, too, so she does need to help guide him through his feelings and make him come to terms the knowledge that those relationships have ended.
I noticed how, he specifically said he doesn’t love Aelin and doesn’t love Nesryn but she didn’t make him tell her he doesn’t love Dorian.
