I dream a lot about the Maze Runner books. It’s often that I’m one of the characters and something happens. Some are weird and some are really cool.
I’ve had like ten in the last couple months.

Girl Of His Dreams, Literally
Female Reader x Minho
Simple summary: You were a girl, the boys didn't expect your feisty attitude because of that, all but one of them at least. He saw you for the 'first' time, he, he recognized you, and you did too. You even knew his name.
------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
You woke in a metal box, scraping of metal pinching your ears with their sharp sound. You looked around your area and saw boxes and bags all labeled with the same word, WICKED.
You weren't scared when the top of your box opened, you wore more intrigued than anything. Light flooded the box, revealing silhouettes of bodies looking at you, craning their necks, surprised by something.
"The actual shuck, you guys seeing what I am" a voice gasped, a boy it sounded like. Multiple other voices said the same thing back to the first boy, "yes."
"What the hell are you weirdo freaks talking about?" you asked, firmly. "Also, get me out of this useless box, I want to see your faces"
One of the boys, most likely the leader jumped into the box. The leader spoke.
"Huh, you're a girl. Never had us a girl greenie before." He pointed out, "Can you remember anything about you? Your name? Where you came from"
"Yeah, I remember my name, a bunch of other stuff too" you looked at a pile of crates, and decided they would make good stairs. "Unfortunately for you my friend, I think our chat here is done."
And with that you swiftly swung your body around the boy and floated up the 'stairs' finding yourself surrounded by multiple boys, at least fifty of them staring at you.
One of them put their hands on your shoulders, holding you from behind. Probably so you didn't try to escape again. "Now why don't you slim it nice and cool, we just want to help you" the boy behind you said, he had a nice smooth and comforting accent.
One grabbed your arm, and you didn't like that.
"Get your bloody hands off of me" you yelled at the one who grabbed your arm. You swung your fist at him, making impact. He let go, yelping in pain.
You were shocked that you had done that, but it's not like the boy didn't deserve it.
The boy who had their hands on your shoulders moved their hands to your wrists, and swiftly pulled them behind your back, so you were unable to inflict more damage to anyone else.
"I thought I told you to calm down, did I not." the boy said.
You struggled to find your voice in the moment, you looked behind you and saw that he was close. "You did, but yet again, I think our chat here is done."
You swung your leg back, aiming for his shins. But he must have known what you were doing and dodged it. "Now, now. I am going to put you in the slammer if you do much more of this klunk. Am I understood?"
"Yes, you are understood. Now what the fuck do you want with me?" You put as much sass into your voice, just to annoy them.
"I am going to let you go now, try anything and my friends here will stop you. We want to ask you a few questions, about what you know." the boy warned.
"Wait, is that boy. M- Minho here? Was he sent to your maze?" you asked, you remembered him, and something about the maze and him being sent you were unsure why you remembered that information, but you just did. "We were friends before he was sent away, to a maze, that's all I can remember"
"You know Minho?", "Shuck, he won't be back for an hour still.", "Is she a spy?" all the boys were muttering to themselves.
You knew this was the moment you could sprint of and hide, while they were distracted. Most were talking to the boy you left in the box, so now was your chance.
You began a sprint, like a run for your life.
Found a tree and swiftly swung yourself through the branches, you were at least 15-20 meters into the air, so you stopped.
You were there for a solid hour, yet none of the boys had come close to finding you.
You had been looking at that big gap in the walls, wondering what was there, and then you saw him. The boy, Minho. He came out of the walls.
You jumped out of the tree, from about 5 meters off of the ground of course. But you horribly judged the distance, you were easily 10 meters off of the ground instead.
Doing this resulted in you screaming as you fell, but hey, you got Minho's attention. Maybe it was because you just fell out of a bloody tree, 10 meters up.
While you were falling, your shirt got snagged on a branch, slowing your fall drastically. Only having gotten a small blow to the head rather than almost definite death you were relieved. You saw the boy and yelled his name before you blacked out "Minho!"
The boy was close when you jumped, so he got to you within a matter of seconds.
"Holy shit, her back is all cut up, and her head is bleeding so much." He didn't even notice that you called his name until the original shock wore off. "How the fuck-"
"Minho, what happened to her?" the boy with the smooth accent asked.
"I don't know, I came through the doors and she jumped out of the tree, she got caught on a branch and continued to fall, then she yelled my name out" Minho said, out of breath and shocked.
"Yeah, we were gonna tell you that the greenie somehow knew your name, and that this place is a maze." The other boy spoke nervously.
"Look, Newt, I don't care what she knows at the moment. What I think we should care about is that she is losing a lot of blood"
"Are you two going to talk like I am not here" you groggily spoke, you were out of it. And you were out of it again as quick as you were back to reality.
"Right, Minho. Can you keep an eye on her, I am getting Clint"
"Fine, but straight after that I need to go to the map room"
The Clint boy arrived with Newt and they had to carry you to the homestead, so your injuries could be treated.
"Ok greenie, I am going to need to do some stitches on your back. The thing is, we can't knock you out, we either have to wait till' you are asleep which isn't a good idea, or we will do it now with you conscious"
"Just do it know, the pain can't get any worse"
A few of the boys held your arms and legs down, one gave you a shirt to bite onto. "Why are you guys holding me?"
"Because it hurts, it hurts a lot. We don't want you flailing around"
You felt the sting of antiseptic dribbling onto your back and your head, both at the same time.
"Great, two things hurting at once. Must be two people doing it" you thought to yourself.
Then came the excruciating feeling of hot metal plunging deep into your skin followed by the sensation of your skin being pulled together. Thankfully there was only one gash on your back that needed 6 stitches.
You were fighting of the urge to fling your arms and legs back and stop the near torturous experience. That only caused more pressure to be forced on your limbs, the boys were practically crushing your arms and legs.
Turns out they wanted to do your back, then your head because only one of the first aiders knew how to do sutures with wounds as deep as yours.
The boy doing your stitches soon moved onto your head, he had to bandage it and stitch it up.
He began to sew your head back together and it was absolutely excruciating, you were happy, it was so painful that you became unconscious.
You awoke to the boys staring at you, your instinct told you to run away but the boys obviously knew because you still felt hands on your arms.
"Sooo, can I like, go now?"
"Sorry but we can't let you, nobody can go, and we need to ask you a few questions - How do you know Minho? Where did you come from? Minho says he recognizes you."
"Newt, stop. Let me talk to her. I think she is scared of you"
"Hey there, how you feeling?" Minho spoke so softly as not to scare you. "I know you know me, and I recognize you, I get these dreams, and you are in them. Is, is your name Y/n?"
"Yes Minho, I am so glad you remember me. I, I got picked, they chose me. I wasn't scared, and I managed to remember you, and them I remember WICKED. We will get out in due time, but I can't speak anymore."
"Why Y/n? Why can't you speak?"
"It's the beetle blades, and the elites. They are listening to EVERYTHING."
------------------------------------------------
I might make a part 2, in all due time, I have like 10 different ideas for plots floating through my head. This one has been in my drafts for weeks so, I kinda had to get it done. Sorry for ending on a cliffhanger too, I want people to sit there and imagine what would happen next.

Not a love story.
Dystopias aren’t a dating ground for the main characters, unlike what Hollywood thinks.
Dystopian environments should make the main character and reader question everything and everyone. Would they tell me to the government? Would they leave me behind as we run away from infected people? Should I trust them?
Hollywood focuses too much on love to notice that the economy is collapsing and trust is a difficult and complicated thing while living in a dystopia.
In this essay I will be comparing The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner and between the books and the movies.
In the Hunger Games Trilogy, the books written by Suzanne Collins), there are plenty of instances when the main character, Katniss Everdeen makes it plainly clear that she doesn’t want to have a relationship with either Gale (her childhood best friend) and Peeta (the boy who saved her life when they were young.)
She only wants to save her younger sister, Primrose, and their mother. Anyone else is just a bonus. However, playing the star-crossed-lovers is what managed to save her and Peeta from the first games, because the Capitol (like America and Hollywood) wants to see a love story. After 74 years of having every other type of victory story, romance is perfect for them. “Haymitch is right. Star crossed lovers, they eat that stuff up in the Capitol.”
Katniss Everdeen fully believes in the “eye for an eye” motive. She cannot let go of the fact that Peeta saved her life when they were young, which proves to be a good motivation to destroy the Capital and its ideals of using child slaughter as entertainment.
Even though everyone in the Capital, as well as real life fans who only watch the movies, believe that Katniss and Peeta’s love for each other is what sparked the rebellion that led to the revolution, that is incorrect.
It was the murder of a 12 year old girl in the first games and Katniss’s grief that made the other Districts realise that they are done watching their children be placed in the awful situation where humans are pitted against each other and are forced to fight for the entertainment of others.
If Peeta wasn’t in the Hunger Games, it would still have a powerful message and Katniss Everdeen would still not be with Gale.
Although, in the prequel of the Hunger Games, we learn that before the 11th Game the Capital people didn’t enjoy watching the Hunger Games, not while contrasting their reactions in the 74th. For them it was as much punishment as it was for the District people.
In the end of the books, it is even shown that Katniss left Peeta. She left both of her love options so she can just live by herself and do what she wanted back in District 12.
Peeta, like always, came to her.
Survival takes precedence over romance within the books of The Maze Runner. We see it numerous times.
In the Scorch Trials, when Teresa betrayed Thomas and still believed that W.I.C.K.E.D was good, that was the answer.
In the movies of The Death Cure, Teressa choses W.I.C.K.E.D again and decides to stay, even so. The romance still clouded Thomas’ decision, he was hesitant to trust Teresa but less so than the others.
In the movies Teresa betrays Thomas on an almost daily basis, it was starting to get very tiring. She kept getting into contact with W.I.C.K.E.D (Although it is spelled WCKD for some reason), ignoring the fact that they have failed so many times at so many things. They were meant to keep the Gladers(or subjects as they referred to them) under control, and failed. They were meant to find a cure for the Flare, but failed. They were meant to save humanity and yet again they failed.
In the movies, Teresa’s faith in WCKD was conflicting with her love for Thomas, but near the end of the books Teresa thought she was saving Thomas.
In both The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games (the movies), people’s main focus is romance. As such the screenwriters must have decided to use that to their advantage and focus on it as well. Perhaps because the real meaning of the books were too dark for Americans to take seriously and probably because when someone goes to see a movie they want to be entertained, they want to be moved by something that is seen in regular life. Cranks and murdered children are often evasive from the day-to-day life of people.
So, what is the real meaning of the books?
With The Hunger Games, I believe its main focus is how easily humans can be distracted by positive media, sparkly dresses and good food. As long as things are disguised by something pretty and something that releases endorphins, it’s ok.  The Capital uses bureaucracy, politicians, social, culture and  media control, that is what makes it dystopian.
With The Maze Runner, the main focus is how easily humans betray one another for “the greater good.” It is easy to be lied to, especially when they want to be lied to.
W.I.C.K.E.D lied to themselves. They believed they could play God with children. There were alternatives that they could have taken, but they were less entertaining to do. W.I.C.K.E.D used bureaucracy control like the Capital, but there wasn’t much media to control over, so they got creative. They used psychology to confuse the main characters, making them doubt everything. Their names, their whereabouts. The Gladers were physically confined into the Glade.
Bureaucracy, psychology, resources, physical and information control.
Dystopian is described as an unfair society… Like ours.

I am going to talk about the maze runner. So I watch the movies and I am reading the first book rn. Today, thomas asks newt why he is not a runner. Newt replied that he was a runner until he got attacked by a griever a few months back, and now he has a limp. I know what happened in the movies, but I didn't know it was a few months back it really hits different.

So I have a bone to pick with the Death Cure movie. I read The Maze Runner books, love them. But the fucking movie pisses me off. In the books, there’s no way to save Newt or any of the other infected. In the movies, there’s a way, and they still don’t save him cuz they find out too late and so I think that hurts way more than not having the ability to save him in the first place. The movie deaths hit different and they hit harder and I’m sorry I’m late to the party but it took me forever to finally read and watch The Maze Runner series. Overall, low key pissed at the movies. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Some thoughts on the maze runner book series with slight spoilers probably
The maze runner book series and the movies are both interesting, but the best things about them don’t align at all, so people generally hate either books or movies, and sometimes both  I like the books more because of the things some people hate them for (though the second book was really testing my patience, especially in the middle)  and its so easy to hate some of the decisions Thomas makes, that it becomes this distinct feature to like about him as a protagonist since books follow his thoughts almost like his pov it turns this story into a story with unreliable narrator (kinda? at least it can possibly be seen like this?)  his thoughts contradict his actions quite often, and despite being convinced he’s “the smart guy” he clearly does the first thing that comes to his mind, and sometimes it even works surprisingly well i’d say he clearly has the spirit of a scientist, always ready to question something and to run and test his theories(mostly on himself, scaring everyone around) , but Theresa is the one with a mind of a scientist  And the funny thing is that they’re not even scientists - when they’re teenagers who lived in isolation in a postapocalyptic world in a really questionable environment from a very young age just to be a part of a big experiment, but from their perspective it’s more than just an experiment - it’s their whole known life  The books describe an experiment, and every part of the plot adds to this one idea of “the chosen one = the test subject”, and the movies have different perspective on the whole major thing that started this plot in the first place And it’s not a bad thing, on their own these movies can be quite entertaining, some of the point from the books are actually interesting to see in this sort of adaptation (though some of these details don’t work together and break this version’s logic, it can be overlooked, adaptations can be hard to make), but it’s a different story which looks like a story from the books only on the outside Books have completely different vibe and allow readers to be stuck in this situation with the protagonist, to suffer from the lack of important information just like the heroes with small bits of outside information to make it more interesting, and it helps building this sense of something incomprehensible, of knowing something is going wrong but nothing able to understand why, of being watched and controlled by someone, just like an experiment subject - and it’s unsettling,  it’s scary, it’s a psychological and physical torture  - and that defines these books for me But this format hurts the way characters are described - and it’s even addressed a few times how little the protagonist knows about a lot of people surrounding him - and for some readers this results in a lack of connection with the characters - because it takes some thinking and imagination really to get how weird and illogical some Thomas’s decisions look to anyone but him, and a lot of attention to actually get the differences in others’ personalities and their reasoning of their action -but it’s there at least at some degree it’s kinda like “show, don’t tell” but the light are all out - so maybe it was better to tell And, personally, i like it, it’s free “open to interpretation” thing  Also characters do have different way they act and react to different situations and a whole lot of traumatic evets thrown at them, and they change with the story - so they have different endings of their personal stories - and some interactions are painfully beautiful  (or beautifully panful in this case)  And it’s generally easier to explain some of the more stupid decisions in books, because all the events happen during a really short amount of time Some may complain about weird pacing - but it does convey the perception different of time in different situations  And the repetitions of the same ideas, especially in the first book, kinda help  convey how people subconsciously return to some thoughts if something about them seems off - and it also can be explained by some of the experiment’s conditions and the whole amnesia thing  Anyway - the first book is definitely worth reading - and it has all the good things + it feels really comfy for some reason and then hits with a bit of unreality - and that’s an interesting experience  And i just really wanted to share some thoughts on the series

James Dashner was definitely on something the day he decided to write that the sky in the maze was fake
“There was no blue, no black, no stars, no purplish fan of a creeping dawn. The sky, every last inch of it, was slate gray. Colorless and dead.”
my brain chemistry was fundamentally changed when I read that as a kid
I also think it really added an extra bit of terror when the Gladers realized how much control wckd really had over them and their lives. I think it would have been cool if they could have added that into the movies but I get how visually it wouldn’t have been a good choice.
the books felt so wild compared to the movies (I do think the changes where good though considering it would have been clunky or convoluted in a visual medium)

The Sting
Tumblr media
Minho x Reader Female --- Newt is also in it
Summary: A few months ago, Minho's best runner got stung, he was worried about them, because he loved them. That was you, you were his best runner. One day, he saw your sting, and it was not shucking pretty.
TW: Short part about offing self, swearing, description of wound
1700 words, 12 minute read time
------------------------------------------
You and Minho had been extremely close since you became his best runner, well, that was until the horrid day that you got stung. Then you became even closer.
He was there when you went through the changing, he saw you flail about, he saw you screaming in tortured agony. He even saw you as your hands fixed around your neck, squeezing until your face grew purple. He remembers that horrifying and gripping moment of him prying your hands away, only to be met with screaming, but he knew it wasn't you.
You didn't like him seeing you as you were, you were an animal - a sick wounded animal that wanted to get away from it all, but couldn't.
"I don't know if you are going to get through this or not but, Y/n, I love you. I am so sorry I let this happen to you. I am such a slinthead and I shucking love you."
When you had recovered enough to think straight, you decided to see if he actually did love you, like he had said. "Minho, was my brain making klunk up when I went through the changing or did you actually say you loved me?" Minho smirked.
"I guess that means you love me too?"
You nodded so fast that your head could have fallen off.
"I guess that it's official."
It had been 2 months ago, the two of you had been together 2 whole months.
Because of the whole griever incident and your arm being a bit, gruesome looking, you religiously wore a jumper to hide it from people that may see it. Shuck, not even Minho had seen it being your boyfriend and all.
One night though, you had accidentally let your guard down.
"Minho, I am gonna change shirts, k'? This shirt is soo itchy."
You pulled your jumper and shirt over your head doing that twisty arm thingy. That left you in just a sports bra and your shorts, your arm was in plain sight.
Then he saw it, all of it. Your heavily bruised, puckered, swollen, and red arm with a scabby circular shape sitting inside it all.
"Fuck Y/n, that looks infected. Has it been like that since the, sting?" He was worried, it was the most worried you had seen Minho since the initial sting.
You shrugged it off "Ehh, it's not that bad Minho. Just slim it nice and cool will ya"
"No, no, No this is bad, it is infected. I need to get you to the med-jacks. They will know what to do. You are going no matter what, Y/n, this is serious."
"Whyyyy, I don't need it. Nobody was even meant to see it." you were whining at Minho, you hate being fussed over and being seen as weak.
"Come on Y/n, we can do it the easy way or the hard way." He spoke to you as though you were a little kid.
"I guess it will have to be the hard way, I am not going anywhere for shuck sake." you fumbled around Minho's hut, it was kinda yours too, you needed to get a shirt and your jumper on.
"Ok, if you do say so" Minho smirked, "Y/n, you are coming with me whether you like it or not, don't be a slinthead because I am much, Much stronger than you" and with that, he used one leg to sweep your feet from under you and caught your back on the way down.
The entire situation turned into Minho having the upper hand. He was carrying you bridal style to the med-hut with you kicking out and flailing around.
"I didn't quite expect 'this' to be how I got you to the med-hut. You are normally much better behaved than this."
You protested. "Minho, put me down. I said PUT ME DOWN! Ok, have it your way, sorry in advance."
Minho had his guard up, he knew you were going to do something.
You began to squirm around in his big arms getting to the perfect angle with one arm hanging in between his legs.
Then you hit him in the family jewels. Then he dropped you. Then you ran off. Then you ran into something. Then the something spoke.
"Bloody hell Y/n, watch where your shucking going." then he saw your arm. "Oh my god Y/n, did you get stung again? What happen-" he trailed off. Even at night you could tell by the voice who it was, it was Newt. "Y/n?"
"Yes Newt?"
"Why is Minho in the middle of the glade doubled over clutching his nutsack?" Newt was, to say the very least, curious.
So, you told him the story while Minho began walking the 100 meters between you and him.
"Wow Y/n" Minho had arrived back "You and Minho have had, quite the night, hey?"
"I guess so, but forget you ever saw my piece of klunk arm"
"Y/n" It was Minho, he was speaking firmly, you could tell he was serious at the time "You still need to go, if not by my word, Newt's authority. Are we going to do this the easy way or the hard way? Your choice"
"I'm not going, you can get some stuff from the medjacks and bring it to our hut. Nobody else is seeing my bloody arm!" you were practically yelling at the end, you were ready to fight a losing battle.
Minho approached you slowly, both hands open facing you, as not to scare you. "Come on Y/n, please, for me?" and with that he lunged forward and snatched your wrist. "Fuck off Minho, let me go." before you knew it, you had socked him in the jaw.
"Minho, sorry, I am so sorry, I didn't mean to do that, I am so, so sorry. Sorrysorrysorry."
"You really don't want to go huh? I am sorry, but you have to, it is too infected, you could get sepsis and die if it isn't treated" Minho was pissed, and you knew it. He wasn't used to you being snarky.
Minho turned to Newt and spoke to him while he was still holding your wrist.
"Newt."
"Yeah Minho"
"Grab one of her arms, I don't care if she wants to or not, she, is, going." Minho spoke bluntly.
"On it, Minho"
Before you knew it, both of your arms were being held as you were hoisted to your feet, you were being defiant and you knew it, so you decided that 'if they want me there that bad, they can drag me'.
Yep, you had gotten yourself into quite the predicament. Your boyfriend and the second-in-command of the glade were dragging you by your arms to the medhut, it definitely wasn't a desirable situation. So you know, you kicked out at Minho in hopes that he would let go of you.
"Y/n, cut it out, it's not the end of the shucking world."
You kept trying to kick him.
"Newt, can you hook your other arm under her leg. Just keep her still please."
You weren't able to kick or hit anymore, you were defenseless.
"Hey Minho" Newt said
"Yeah Newt, what's up?"
"Yanno, you did a good job at picking a shucking girlfriend that is as feisty and stubborn as you."
"Oi, you little slinthead"
The two boys were actually kind of funny, listening to them talk to each other was somewhat calming.
"Y/n, are you going to walk now, or do Newt and I still have to be your personal slaves?"
"I- I will walk now, I guess it does need to get looked at."
"Good choice" the two boys said in unison as they dropped your legs, they still held onto your arms though, you had had a history of running off at random times.
You didn't think it could get any worse, but then, Alby came out of the medhut 300 meters away. Ok, ok, Alby walking out of the medhut was no big deal, he was probably just checking on his men.
And then you remembered that if he saw you being led to the medhut with two of his best men holding your arms tight he would in the very least, be concerned.
You stopped dead in your tracks and didn't want to go nearer to Alby, he would not be happy that you kept your poor arm a secret.
"Come on Y/n, Newt and I can drag you again if you want."
"And then Alby will be more inclined to come over" Newt added.
Shuck, what would you do, you could plant one foot far in front of you so they couldn't drag you, or you could actually listen to them for the first time that night. You knew what you were going to do.
You dug your left heel into the dewy night grass and put your right foot backwards and twisted it, bracing for being pulled. Though you knew that you were no match for the boys.
Then you felt them trying to drag you, but they weren't. Your bracing helped. Them Minho picked up your front foot rendering your attempts at bracing yourself useless.
"Come on Y/n, any more of this bullshit and I will be calling Alby over, you don't want him seeing you, do you?"
"Fine, I will walk, just let go of me, it is bringing too much attention."
"Promise not to run off, I don't wanna get angry boyfriend on you."
"Promise, Minho"
Then they let go, and to you followed along, a plan already brewing in your mind.
"Good, good Y/n, see, you are able to behave. We have already walked 50 meters. Good job" Minho was happy you decided to behave.
You looked over to the trees at the deadheads, you could easily get there before Minho caught up to you, surprisingly though, he was the fastest in the glade, Ben coming second.
Minho and Newt let you walk in between them, though they were both only a foot away from your arms- to run would be close but not impossible.
You began to build up good rapport with them, they trusted you. You hated to need to break their trust, but it was your only chance, you were only 100m away from the medhut.
"Y/n, you have slowed down, you aren't planning on running. Are you?"
"I- I was going to, Minho, I don't know why, but I am scared."
He grabbed your waist and pulled you in tightly.
"I love you Y/n, it will be okay, I won't let anything bad happen to you."

hey yall i'm just here to remind you thomas betrayed WCKD and decided to send himself into a maze he knew he could not survive in for newt because he wanted to save newt — be there for him, so he won't feel so alone and bad in that place and so another suicide attempt doesn't happen — after seeing newt trying to kill himself. “i'm coming for you, newt.” NEVER forget that.
