Percy sure can’t catch a break in the latest season of LoVM, poor guy.

genuinely so unwell thinking about how there’s such an emphasis placed on vax being the one who needs his sister, who asks her to not go far from him, who is nothing without her. vex is the one who’s always been more independent, vax says it himself: she doesn’t need him. but in the end, vax is the one who leaves. and vex doesn’t realize just how much she needed her brother until it’s too late.

loving how the series plays into the themes of destiny and fate and the sheer chance of how the entire campaign turned out

because many of the narrative choices we're going to see in this season and beyond came down to a literal roll of the dice. somebody died, and the cast had to live with consequences of that death. they played it beautifully, over and over again, and when they didn't get a chance to fix it, they let it sit.

and to see it play out as an overarching narrative where the events of characters' lives have so much more meaning is fascinating (and heartbreaking). because maybe you and your friends were always meant to do great things, to save the world. maybe you were always destined to lose your sister, and your sister was always destined to lose you. maybe this was the ending you were walking towards this entire time.

Idk if this was intensional but I noticed that emo teen Vex has a tattoo of a spider web, which isn’t that weird in itself because spider webs are very classic goth imagery.

However when you remember the hatred high elves in Exandria have for Lolth (the spider queen) in it makes perfect sense that Vex got that specific tattoo.

This is the fantasy equivalent of a rebellious christian girl tattooing a pentagram on herself.

the destruction of emon was absolutely incredibly done, but I am sad we didn’t get the vex/vax moment of, “do you think this is what mother saw before she died?”

watching tlovm without any knowledge of campaign 1 was wild because when i first started watching episodes 1-2 i thought percy's whole situation was that he was this disgraced nobleman that got kicked out of the house because he did some kind of crime involving his inventions and/or his vibes were bad. and i went "yeah that's hilarious. he's my favorite now". and then episode 3 punched me in the face with "actually he got kicked out because his family was murdered and he was on the run and every time he sleeps he dreams of them being killed in front of him again. lmao" and a part of me withered and died

his name is a running joke in the campaign btw he'll introduce himself with all 17 syllables of it and at least two other people will immediately follow it up with "you can call him percy"

actually episodes 1-2 of tlovm are a very loose adaptation of some of the pre-stream content (since they didn't start streaming until several years into the actual campaign)! they've got a summary video for all of the pre-stream stuff called the story of vox machina which has some really pretty illustrations. there's also "vox machina: origins" which is an ongoing series of comics adapting pre-stream vox machina. the briarwoods arc (tlovm season 1) corresponds to campaign episodes 24-36. they get the invitation to the feast with the briarwoods at the end of 23 though and it's all set up in 14 iirc. i'm not entirely sure of tlovm season 2 content since i actually only just started on campaign chroma conclave, but according to the wiki that whole arc would be episodes 39-83. although tlovm definitely hasn't gotten to campaign episode 69. so i think they're only halfway through that. the children yearn for season 3

sorry i just. do you ever go insane about dnd as a form of storytelling. i’m thinking about vax (as always) and how much his story has impacted the world of exandria and it wasn’t planned. no one could have foretold it. vax’s soul as the champion of the raven queen is currently being held to try and bring around an apocalypse and it’s because laura bailey rolled a nat one on her dexterity saving throw seven years ago. vax has literally become a deity, become the grim reaper itself, and it’s because taliesin jaffe chose to touch deathwalker’s ward. vax’ildan has rewritten the entire history of exandria, for better or for worse, and it is all because liam o’brien chose to say “take me instead, you raven bitch” to a dark figure that may or may not have been intended to be the raven queen. storytelling in this manner is so much more powerful than anything else could ever hope to be. i love it.

WHY WOULD EPISODE 3 DO THIS TO ME

Every day I wake up and my close friend and adventuring party member who I’ve been flirting with for years who also recently set off the trap that accidentally killed me while attempting to retrieve a magical suit of armour from the tomb of the goddess of death hasn’t told me in a quiet moment together that he’s known a lot of people with money and they are definitely not worth me, nor has my close friend and adventuring party member who I’ve been flirting with for years who has also recently covered for me while facing the necromantic murderers of my family at a formal dinner stood in front of my weapon while I was possessed by a demon, ready to attack her and all our friends, touched me gently on the face and told me to take of the mask before calling out my full name and telling me to fight the monster inside of me and by doing so successfully pulled me back from the brink. also, not so coincidentally, in both cases this “close friend” is my heart and judgement and the future I have chosen. I mean like why do I even try anymore

For me?? 👀👀👀 AND THEN THE CLIMAX....THE INSIGHT IT GIVES TO THEIR DYNAMIC....THE WAY THEYRE STILL STUCK IN CHILDHOOD DESPERATELY CLINGING TO EACH OTHER....THE WAY VAX'S ATTEMPTS TO KEEP VEX SAFE IS WHY HE WASNT THERE....THE WAY VEX WAS HAVING SOME FUN BLOWING OFF THE WAY VAX'S COPING MECHANISMS IRRITATE HER BUT THEN!! REMEMBERING THAT EXCHANGE SPECIFICALLY! AND DECIDING TO BE A LITTLE MORE CAUTIOUS BC SHE LOVES HER BROTHER....AND THE WAY IT WAS ALREADY TOO LATE!!!!!!! THE WAY THE DIALOGUE IS COMPLETELY SUBSUMED BY THE ECHOES OF THE CHILDISH FEAR AT THE CENTER OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!! THE WAY IM GOING TO BE SCREAMING UNTIL FRIDAY!!!!!
