Stuff that adds to my headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those brief moments where we see Nduli next to/right behind Kiburi. It’s not all the time and I know the animators didn’t do it on purpose, but it’s adorable given my hc about their relationship. The fact that Nduli was the one sleeping next to Kiburi in the canyon makes me hc that he always slept next to him. That was his spot since childhood and he’s never changing that. And that small detail about him being the first to follow Kiburi, that’s little brother material right there
Not to mention the first thing Nduli said after Tamka agreed Thurston’s “advice” was legit
Tumblr media
“We should tell Kiburi”
They get an idea of how to defeat the Lion Guard and Nduli IMMEDIATELY thinks of Kiburi. He was even on his way to tell him before Tamka stops him and I think that’s adorable
I’ve actually been watching clips of the penguins from the Madagascar franchise and I completely forgot about the wholesome sibling relationship between Skipper and Private, especially when Skipper’s like “cover the Private’s ears” cuz he doesn’t wanna ruin his innocence. That’s what Kiburi and Nduli’s relationship is like

I was trying to decide should I draw Kung Fu Panda fanart or my original character, and ended up drawing these three out of nowhere.
It was four years since the last time I drew anything related to The Lion Guard...
I still stand by this headcanon; where Mzingo and Mwoga adopted and raised Janja.
Kinda inspired by posts by @spinnysocks

I'm REALLY curious on what you mean by TLG giving ass backwards treatment to Jasiri and her pack
I like Jasiri, don't get me wrong. It's nice to have a hyena character in The Lion King franchise that isn't just a stupid cackling villain. She has a cute design, and I always enjoyed the episodes she appeared it. Don't Judge A Hyena By It's Spots being one of my top favorite episodes of season 1.
However, she is only "good" by the narrative because she and her clan live by the Pride Land's specific "Circle Of Life" ideology. A ideology that in my opinion, doesn't benefit her, her clan, or her species AT ALL. She and spotted hyenas in general are still subjected to living in a barren wasteland with little to no resources. (The Lion Guard even one ups this by saying even TERMITES don't live in the Outlands just to get the Aardwolves to come back. Continuity be damned.) They only got one water source to call their own. They live near an active volcano with open lava pits that one can easily fall into ( and one that she and the cubs nearly died in). There is absolutely no bitterness from any innocent hyenas, and they basically just accepted that this is how they must live. Jasiri can sing Kwetu Ni Kwetu all she wants, the melody will go real great with the sound of her homies sizzling at the bottom of a lava pit next to Ushari.
It's actually really bad that Makucha ( a reoccurring villain) is subjected to live in a much better environment filled with prey, water, and plenty of vegetation where even the zebras are happier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I say subjected because I never got the vibe that these animals live where they do out of their own volition, more like they are assigned. Aside from the hyenas not being allowed in the Pride Lands, I never got that vibe from the movies. It really makes me wish Fuli's quote from the pilot about "Always the Lions lording over the Pride Lands" was expanded on and explored. Anyways.... The show also never really addresses what she even eats, because I doubt much prey ventures into the out lands. BUT DON'T WORRY- Jasiri states that hyenas are clean up crews and eat what lions leave behind. Further reinforcing that outdated belief that spotted hyenas are primarily scavengers (which Ono even states in a later episode because he has to be the "educational mouthpiece" even when he's blatantly wrong). I can appreciate the show trying to show the benefits of scavengers- but it really should have been saved for animals like the vultures. So the show couldn't even make her and her clan respectable hunters that only hunt specifically what they need ( Probably because there is nothing TO hunt and whenever Janja is shown hunting on his own damn lands, he is stopped but I digress). I can't even help but wonder how she even CAN scavenge if all the lions live in the Pride Lands, and the alarm is sounded whenever a hyena sets a toe within Pride Land territory- unless the lions are just dumping corpses into the Outlands. This is probably why they had the show outright lie to you and pretend that Aardwolves are no way related to Spotted Hyenas because they can't have the children asking why they are allowed in the pride lands and not a friend of our protagonists, Jasiri.
Also, The hyenas specifically are only treated as "good" the very second they don't hunt for food and instead scavenge, and ONLY scavenge. (Not by their own choice) Compare this to Fuli who has been shown hunting, and it's treated as a bad thing that her hunts got interrupted and she doesn't get to eat. BUT WHATEVER, YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO THINK ABOUT IT MUCH! LOOK AT THE FUNNY HONEY BADGER!!!
Tumblr media
I honestly wouldn't even be complaining about any of this if it turned out Jasiri secretly lived in a oasis within or in the outskirts of the Outlands, or even the Backlands where she had access to prey or even later got a better land for her own in the end.
Keep in mind, this is all just my opinion. And you are free to disagree with me. And it's been a hot minute since I watched The Lion Guard so my details might be off here and there. Just don't try to pull the whole "It's a preschool show" argument, because that really doesn't matter to me.

TLG: Lovin’ You
In an effort to impress Vitani, Tiifu one day brings a flower native to Vitani's old neighborhood, the Outlands. Tiifu learns the hard way that you can't just pick any flower you see, even if it brings out your girlfriend's eyes. .... Idea stemmed from originally thinking of something a little more gentle like Tiifu having severe pollen allergies while she and Vitani hang out in a field or something, but my mind wandered and I instead went for something more graphic lol. We don't often see Tiifu taking on the hurt role in a hurt/comfort visual of V/T, and it's just a chance to give her some characterization. The flower she's holding is a Morning Glory, which... I don't think poisons people that way, but it's definitely poisonous when eaten. idk I just wanted to go for a flower that actually existed and is in the African continent I often see Pride Month art (and... honestly ship art in general) where the generally masc character is giving the generally femme character a flower. I love those and think the arts were a male partner's giving Vitani a flower or Vitani's giving a female partner a flower are sweet af, but I wanted to flip that slightly gendered gesture on its head, and have the femme make the suave move, just to see what it's like lol I was inspired by this blessed recent art by tortietail, so I felt like contributing to the V/T world with reversed roles lol Couldn't think of a relevant pun for the title so I just went with the Minnie Ripterton song because the way I drew this kinda looks like how that song sounds XD

A short one-page TLK/TLG fan comic drawn with markers - Lions of the Outlands, Alternate Ending. A little bit of explanation about this:
Before the actual “Lions of the Outlands” episode came out, I had a dream that the episode came out early and I was watching it, and the Outsider cubs were fighting the Lion Guard. Vitani was fighting Fuli (same as in the actual trailer) and Kovu was reluctantly fighting Jasiri, and it seemed like the Outsiders were winning, but Nuka was fighting Beshte (lol) to show his mother how tough he is, and his fighting style was mostly long leaps and fast movements (it was very well-animated and in the style of the movies with shots from different angles, but well, it was a dream, so…). That was a pretty successful tactic, and Beshte looked genuinely impressed and said something like “Hey everyone, this guy is actually good at this!” and Nuka stopped in surprise and was all “You… really think so?”, and he looked so proud that someone complimented him, especially in front of his mother, but Vitani was like “No!” because he got distracted and the Guard won.

Simba Is A Good Dad, to BOTH his Cubs, Actually.
So I’m about to rant about some shit that nobody is gonna care about considering it’s about an almost 20 year old movie and a cartoon that’s technically over(?) but I need to get it out of my system
One of the coldest takes (in my opinion) on the internet I’ve seen since dabbling in the TLK/TLG fandom is that Simba isn’t a good dad to Kiara, hypothetically compared to Kion his younger son especially.
Granted he’s not a perfect dad, nobody is, and I mean, he’s got some big shoes to fill regarding Mufasa as a king and as a father. Then again, we never got the chance to see him really mess up because he never had the chance to see Simba grow up or the challenges that come with that tragically.
But like, Kiara is like under 10 years old at the TLK2. He’s protective of her then, sends Timone and Pumbaa to watch her (like Sarabi sent Zazu, not really that different).
She deliberately loses them and almost gets eaten by crocodiles and encounters someone who very well might’ve killed/kidnapped her given the opportunity, Zira.
Then the scene that follows mirrors the scene from TLK where his father chastised him for putting himself in unnecessary danger and gives him a narratively potent lesson about the Circle of Life.
He overreacts a bit at the prospect of Kiara being out in danger. But the thing is he doesn’t do it for no reason. Yes there’s past trauma there from his childhood, but because of the Outlanders the Pridelands aren’t as safe as they were when Simba was a cub.
Kiara doesn’t look for trouble, trouble finds her because there are factions willing and able to exploit the fact she’s Simba’s only heir (especially with Kion absent). Both times Kiara went out on her own the Outlanders used her against him and she almost died the first time. Even though he freaks out initially and is like “no more hunts for you!” he still lets her go out alone with Kovu.
He doesn’t know what the audience (or Kiara) knows about Kovu. His worst fears were confirmed and his reaction to Zira (and seemingly Kovu as well) using Kiara to get to him was to protect her. He’s ultimately in the wrong and is stubborn, but he does learn in the end and apologizes to Kovu for misjudging him instead of doubling down. He’s an okay dad and becomes a better one by the end of the film.
So how does this relate to Kion? Well the arguement I’ve seen is Simba not being as protective/showing favoritism to Kion over Kiara in TLG.
I strongly disagree. I think Kiara and Kion are very different children with very different responsibilities. Plus by TLG they’re both older than Simba or Kiara at the beginning of their films.
Kiara is princess regent, the next in line to the Pridelands throne, this a bigger target than Kion, a bigger target who also has more complex responsibilities.
In the TLG pilot, Simba is about as overprotective and mistrustful of Kion as he’d been with Kiara, he still lets him play, he’s an older cub and isn’t alone (because Bunga).
Then it turns out Kion has the Roar of The Elders, and has an entire group of friends he’s assembled and travels with. Not only does tradition (something Simba holds in VERY high regard) demand his son lead The Lion Guard, he also has a group of friends who can and do protect him. He’s not going around all alone with no protection (be it ancestral gifts or allies) picking fights with Hyenas just because he wants to.
I’m almost certain that had Kiara been the one with the Roar of The Elders, Simba would have a hard time justifying keeping her cooped up. And as we can see, Kiara isn’t quite as cooped up (even in TLK2) as people tend to project.
They’re different kids with different needs, personalities, and Royal duties. Simba, in my opinion, reacts pretty reasonably (if not perfectly) to each of those individual cubs given the circumstances. Parenting isn’t easy, especially if you’ve got trauma and there’s a lot at stake.
TL:DR, cut Simba a break, he’s doing his best, and his best really isn’t all that bad, damn.

It's kinda a metal way to go when you tear apart the lion who backstabbed you while fire surrounds you but man I don't think they ever mentioned what happened to the original hyena trio? It sometimes feels like the hyenas just died along with him, but then we find out in the second movie that the hyenas went away from the outlands. In one of the TLG promo videos it was said Janja's clan are descendants from the old hyena clan but nothing ever really came out of it. So maybe there were survivors or they dispensed from the clan.
But the problem with that is that these guys apparently do not know anything about Scar. They just know he died by the fire. They know he "helped" hyenas but that's it. They brought him back as a ghost and if they knew the truth that Scar threw the hyenas under the bus, they most likely wouldn't have done it.
Not to mention they were already chased out as cubs in the flashback episode, so like...Janja's clan definitely got seperated from their families during the fire.

I hate how useless Nala became in TLK 2.
Like in the first movie she was brave enough to travel away from her homeland to find help, was a strong voice of reason for Simba and wasn’t afraid to call him out on his refusal to return claim his role as king, and was a fierce fighter.
I’m Simba’s Pride…she just occasionally showed up to tell Simba “Hey relax man, Kiara’s gonna be fine.”
Like as soon as she popped a baby out she instantly became a generic Supportive Wife and Mom ™.
hello anon you are correct and i wrote a mini essay about it. thesis: nala hasn't been good since the original film
so. aside from the typical furry milf lust, lots of tlk fans love nala bc of the personality traits she has? she's brave, she's playful, she's a smartass, she's strong emotionally and physically, etc. the reason we get to see all this stuff is bc she's the protag's best friend/obligatory love interest. nala exists throughout all drafts of tlk's script, but she's most important in the final one bc she was condensed down to fill several specific roles: she's simba's sidekick, confidant, and loyal supporter all at the same time. the story of the lion king cannot be unaltered by nala's absence
in the first movie that is lmao gottem
we've already established that tlk2 was uh. Messy. for many reasons. rushed production, lack of forethought, few resources, ya get it and ya feel it. to this very day fans complain about how they wish they knew more about kovu and kiara's childhoods, or nuka's relationship to his brother, or the main villain's relation to the previous film's main villain goddamnit reeee. the writing knows what it wants to give us (why else would nuka's death be framed as so tragic despite the fact that we don't really know much about who nuka is as a person outside his submission to his mother?) tlk2 knows what it wants to give us, but it doesn't deliver
so i figure nala is just another casualty to this trend lmao. she was watered down to her barest essentials so as to remain recognizable, and she's in the movie in the first place bc fans expected/wanted her to appear, but none of the writers actually considered what her role(s) would be now. like, okay, she's always been supportive and kind, but that was towards simba as a friend and partner. what about her relationship to her daughter? how does she feel about the outlanders, her former pridemates? why is the womancat who fiercely scolded sense into ferris beuller's fursona unwilling to stand up for her kiara's emo softboy bestie?
and then nala's barely in tlk3. and then she's even less worth the screentime in (what ive seen of) tlg. and she was such a flaccid, pointless nothing in tlk2019
if i was in more of a tumblrina mood today (give me a few edibles more and i'll get there teehee!) i'd go into this also potentially being a misogyny thing, but i feel that's kinda obvious bc its so common in fiction. like, oh cool, another great female character loses all but a semblance of her previous aspirational traits bc she's a married mother now! the directors said >implying lionesses don't belong in the kitchen topkek

I’ve had this in my mind for a while so now I give you
Outlander Pirate AU (feat. Makuu)
-This is definitely one of the Zootopia-esque au’s because who doesn’t love animal pirates?
-The hyenas and vultures are part of one big crew, with Janja as the Captain and Mzingo as his first mate
-Jasiri and Reirei both defied gender roles by being Captains of their crew. Reirei met Goigoi while captured on another ship and she rose to the top. She married Goigoi and her crew grew from there
-Jasiri is actually a privateer who works under newly crowned King Kion. She eventually convinces Janja’s crew to merge with hers and is known as “The Pirate Queen” by everyone else.
Janja agreed cuz he maaay or may not have a repressed crush on Jasiri but he’ll obviously take that to his watery grave
-Captain Kiburi formed a new pirate crew after he started a mutiny against his former captain, Makuu. Makuu, however, had seen it coming and was able to fend off Kiburi and his followers. His crew isn’t as big as the other pirate captains, but holy shit can they fight. They’ve killed more animals than the rest combined
-Kenge was found as a stowaway on Kiburi’s ship, with him against the world and turning to piracy for survival. The crocs wanted to kill him on sight, but Kenge had something they didn’t: venom. So when Tamka tried to attack after calling him “little”, he ferociously bit him and held him at knifepoint. It was then when Kiburi had a better idea: Why not put that anger and those fighting skills to good use? He’s now one of the crocs, being Kiburi’s new friend and best fighter. Everyone thinks they should be scared of the crocodiles when it’s really him you gotta worry about. Kiburi likes to use him as a threat. Either give them all the loot or they’ll sick Kenge on you
-Sumu is an interesting story. Kiburi’s crew found him while exploring a desert island. It’s unknown how he got there in the first place (he doesn’t like to talk about it), but he ultimately joins the crew as a cabin boy among Kenge’s suggestion. Kiburi thought nothing of it until he saw Sumu in action. Turns out he can fatally stab people so that’s fun.
-Ushari was once a great pirate, but after too many near death experiences, he decided to become a grumpy innkeeper with Shupavu and Njano as his employees. They usually act as bartenders who serve drinks to the guests.
-After Makuu started a mutiny against him, Pua stepped down from captain of his crew and resides at the inn, telling all kinds of stories to anyone who would listen
-Hodari is a cabin boy in Makuu’s float. It was always his dream to be a pirate and he was able to prove himself when he helped Makuu steal from Kiburi (after Kiburi stole from him first lol)
-All the captains act like mortal enemies at sea, but put them next to each other in a tavern or Ushari’s inn and they’re acting like they’ve been friends for years
-Out of all the crews, Kiburi’s curses the most. They’ve even done it in the inn when they visited for the night. Ushari had to threaten to bite them on the spot if they didn’t stop driving his customers away. The skinks didn’t do much to help, as Shupavu was too busy laughing and Njano was encouraging them
-Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed are also retired pirates, giving their ship to Janja’s crew once they put the life behind them. They own a tavern, which is another popular hangout spot for pirates
-Njano once snuck onto Kiburi’s ship on his day off. It was a disaster
Kiburi’s realization went like this

you know what would be funny? if former scar's army had to do "community service" in order to redeem themselves
janja, reirei, kiburi, mzingo and others have accepted that they can't challenge jasiri's rule now. but she's giving them a chance to have at least some sort of authority in the outlands, on the condition that they respect the circle of life AND repay their debts to the damage they've caused to the pridelands. the leaders can learn to accept the former - they have no choice after all - but the latter? they're complaining about it like all hell lol

Based on this screenshot.
Been seeing the image of the screenshot for awhile now and I wanted to do another screenshot redraw, so what better way than to display my own redesigns and get some rock practice done then with this?
First off I gave Zira her signature head stripe and gave her more of a sadistic, sinister grin. Kovu and Vitani remained mostly the same, aside from using my colors, though Kovu also got a longer mane tuft extending to his neck, as I like to believe it has been several months since his encounter with Kiara. Nuka also got a sliver of chest mane fur, as well as a rougher, scragglier pelt to reflect how he's more rough and tumble then the rest of his family. Nuka and Vitani also got more cockier expressions.
Going on to the other Outsiders present, from left to right are Tupa, her sister Kosa, Kamili, and Vumbi. I've spoken about them more in this picture on Zira's pride, but I'll go over them quickly here, as well as changed I've made.
Tupa and Kosa are Scar's bastard daughters with Chimbia(aka Digger), conceived not too long after Nuka's birth(yes, Scar is a cheating jerk in my view, having had affairs with at least four lionesses), making them both Nuka's younger half-sisters. Zira hated that her mate had sired other cubs with her best friend/second-in-command and initially hated the twins, but after Scar's death she saw how they could be useful to her plan of avenging her love. The idea of her mate's family and children rising up to destroy his enemies appealed to her, and so she trained the two alongside her own children as soldiers, filling their minds with her vision of revenge. In the end, Kosa and their mother died in the final fight while Tupa survived and later moved on with Kion and some of her pride sisters to live at the Tree of Life, and later had a daughter, Damu.
Kosa received the least amount of changed when I was first inspired by this to create her, so I just made her slightly more scruffy in this picture. Tupa was designed long before I decided modelling off the Outsiders we saw in this episode, but her appearance worked pretty well, so not much changed aside from the darker nose, the scruffier pelt, the torn ears, ripped lip, and the facial scars. Kosa is much more calm and calculating, with a biting edge, like her father, while Tupa is more reckless, viscous, and emotional, though later becomes a lot more reflective and mature after the war and after the birth of her daughter. Her scars were given by a hyena during Scar's reign, during when Scar was considering whether or not she and her twin were better off alive or dead. Needless to say, the offending hyena was banished, the event was written off as a fluke, and the pride was none the wiser, albeit wary. Both sisters were very adamant and enthused on joining Zira in her expedition to enter and takeover Jasiri's pack's watering hole.
First on Zira's right is Kamili, Chozi's mother, aunt and later guardian of Tazama, Alama(Dotty) and Mahali(Spotty), and daughter of Kiapo(Ahadi's brother). Sharp, perceptive, and attentive, as well as supportive, her nieces preferred her over their mother and willingly accepted her after her sister Siki's death by viper. Her design got some minor tweaking, with the major change being the addition of her cheek spots and color tweaking, but she mainly remains the same. One of Zira's scouts, she was one to first find this area and report back to Zira about a potential new base and in none-to-pleased to have someone coming in and disputing this find. Still Kamili survives the final battle and later joins Simba's pride, supporting her own daughter's move to the Tree of Life, Tazama's induction as the Guard's keenest, and Dotty and Spotty's contribution as huntresses into the pride. Both she and Vumbi act as retirees in their newly unified pride, occasionally stepping in to assist with hunts and babysitting, though mostly enjoying their later years in a much more gentle, healthier environment.
And speaking of Vumbi, the last lioness on the right is Kasi's mother, sporting new purple eyes based on her original design and more of her daughter's scruffier appearance. Unlike her reckless, free-spirited daughter, Vumbi is much more strict, controlled, and patient, though also very loving towards her daughter. Kasi was the last to be born in the Outlands and was very weak and small at birth. Despite being suggested by Zira to leave her out for the scavengers, Vumbi held onto and protected her daughter, promising Zira she would be worth it. Despite how many times Kasi's speed-demon behavior, lack of impulse control, and penchant for mischief got on her nerves, Vumbi never gave up on her daughter. She joined this mission here in the hopes to provide a slightly better environment for her daughter, and of course is pretty annoyed and a bit disappointed that a Pridelander cub has come on in and trying to stop them. After the war, Vumbi still is a supportive and loving mother to her fastest guard member daughter.

AYYY OKAY HII STL ABSOLUTELY SHIT BUT I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT ANIMALS THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN IN LION GUARD OR LION KING LET'S GO!
1. Since in the TLG and TLK world, it's based off Africa, meaning there would be animals like a Kangaroo, which would definitely add a bit of a challenge for the guard. Since kangaroos are prey animals for most on the savannah, but are very dangerous when threatened. They are strong animals which maybe during a tough time even the hyenas would go after the kangaroos and be kicked out of the pridelands again. BUT! This is not just a typical 'Outlanders get kicked out again', I imagine that the kangaroo would terrorize the zebras into leaving their grazing grounds for the kangaroos, causing disruption in the circle of life, and causing some issues for the guard to fix!
2. Black footed cats! These things are adorable! And they do live on the savannah. They are labeled as the deadliest cat in the world but they're actually smaller than a domestic cat! They are very dangerous to small rodents, so the hyraxes, and maybe other rodents on the savannah would be at a good population then suddenly be wiped out almost completely by a small group of black footed cats. The guard would have to take extra precautions to protect the hyrax population from the cats and maybe help them find other animals to prey on to keep the circle of life stable!
3. I don't think Capybaras can live in Africa, but maybe when they visit another place, they can meet a capybara that could help them fight against the outlanders. BUT! The capybara will not fight! It simply can bring peace between them, or attempt to at least! Maybe it can succeed and start the 4th season where the hyenas can be let into the pridelands again, and there would he another villain in place..
4. AFRICAN WILD DOGS AND CATS!! It's in the name! Wild dogs are really beautiful and threatening hunters that could be a villain in season 4! Well, while I know Kion and the guard no longer live in the pridelands, what if they're called back to save the pridelands one final few times from the wild dogs!!
Anyways sorry for being gonw for a while XDD
I'm gonna write some tlg stuff anywayss

the lions in tlg/tlk come off as incredibly racist I mean, Jasiri is shown to be a good hyena and she still lives on the outlands, even at the end when Janja redeemes himself they all still live at the outlands?? Jasiri ends up as the leader of the outlands, why? why not just… invite her and the others to the pridelands maybe?? the lion guard even tried to vanish aardwolves into the outlands just for "looking like" hyenas (even tho they are) even in the first movie, the hyenas are literally starving, its honestly no wonder they want to kill Mufasa's racist lion ass. We are shown they over hunted yes but that was because Scar's rule, had Mufasa controlled them they wouldn't have over hunted and could live in the pridelands right?? I'm honestly scared over the Mufasa "live action"
oh and the whole leopard thing in tlg (really nice Bunga redesign btw he looks way better)
Honestly, I think that is probably one thing about Jasiri's character that bugs me A LOT. That she is a "Good" hyena but is still subjected to live in the shithole that is the Outlands even after the series was over because I guess as a hyena that is where she and her kind "belongs". At least let her live in the backlands where there is plenty of food and water for pete sake. I know she claim that is her "home" and all, but it's only a home she has because her entire species was banished and now thanks to the "Circle Of Life", she isn't allowed to live anywhere else. And completely ignoring how the show wants to convince you that Aardwolves aren't hyenas, that episode in general made absolutely no sense if you start asking questions like.... -"Why didn't Simba bother mentioning to Kion and friends about the Aardwolves and inform them to leave them alone should they come across them?"
-"How is Kion more familiar with the tracks of an animal that supposedly hasn't lived in the Pridelands to the point animals OLDER than him don't recognize them but isn't at all familiar with a animal that has been living there for god knows how long?"
-"No one question that the "spotted hyenas" are suddenly a drastic different size?"
"If the Aardwolves are described as lurking around Aardvark dens a lot, how did none of the aardvarks recognize them??"
"Why is Simba so consistently shit at communicating important information with his son??"
And loads more, but this post is already getting long enough. Ironically, I didn't hate that episode. I did enjoy the snark from the Aardwolves all things considered but that episode should have never happened.

TLG kids all grown up
Felt like aging up some characters who may or may not have been properly aged up throughout TLG's run (Mtoto's age in Season 3 was at least biologically accurate, not aging up Dogo and Kijana in Battle for the Pridelands and not reintroducing Wema and Tunu as teenagers anywhere in S3 was a huge missed opportunity) Anyway some headcanons below:
Wema and Tunu: While drawing away at Wema and Tunu, I came up with poses for them that reminded me of the composition of some sort of "adventurous young group exploring a mythical world" fantasy book genre, so I went somewhere along those lines. Wema looks up to her clan leader Jasiri and wants to be a brave, diplomatic hero just like her, making her the more adventurous one of the duo. Tunu hasn't quite grown out of his timidness, and constantly persuades his sister to consider the danger, but to no avail. Despite being twins, they grew to have different body types. Wema became broad and chubby while Tunu took a more slender build. (Their dynamic kinda parallels real hyenas in a way, a brave female and a passive male). Dogo and Kijana: Reirei's two favorite children -- as they take the most after her in possessing cunning, scheming minds -- struggle to separate themselves from their mother to find their true selves on their own, serving as respective antitheses to fellow former Outland neighbors Kovu and Vitani, who have separated from their very own cunning, controlling mother. Dogo grew too old to use his signature cute puppy charm -- the only power he knew besides a cunning, manipulative thinking pattern -- and has since become lost and without much purpose. He has since become a bitter, reclusive, yet mostly harmless young adult jackal. In a way, he suffers from a bit of a former child star complex. Kijana has taken to a rather rough-and-tumble life as a fighter and active breadwinner of the family. She combines her mother's cunning charm skills into successful hunts as well as besting other animals in scuffles when it comes to food competition. Mtoto: Mtoto has grown into the strong elephant he always wanted to be. He has become a wise mentor to the Pridelands' young herd animals, teaching them to defend themselves and each other during threats. For an even longer time, he has served as basically a tank during major threats. Since elephants age significantly slower than many animals seen in TLK/TLG, his time as a mentor probably takes place years into the future, long after Simba's and even Kiara's rule.

I've said this before but
look, I like Janja, he's arguably my favorite TLG character and he's prime blorbo material. But his redemption was handled way too quickly within 40 minutes and that just doesn't work considering how evil he was before. I'm not talking about him infiltrating the pridelands countless times to hunt there (not counting overhunting); that's normal spotted hyena behavior despite the show demonizing it.
but he also did some genuinely bad stuff such as trying to melt jasiri and her two baby siblings alive in lava and that shit's just too dang evil to be easily forgiven ESPECIALLY in 40 minutes.
Like, it's good that he starts to doubt his allegiance to Scar and evil as a whole in the early part of the episode due to Jasiri showing him there's another way. But in the end he really doesn't end up doing anything good and coming to Jasiri for help until he has no other choice when his clan is in mortal danger.
Also, I'd have liked it if Jasiri hadn't forgiven Janja for endangering her and her siblings and all his other deeds. Or maybe had taken a longer time to warm up to him. Right now she just instantly helps him without question which I do somewhat understand; there's lives at stake. But thereafter? No confrontation with Janja about all the harm he's caused over the seasons, after the times he hurt and tried to kill people. He's just instantly forgiven and it's frustrating.
If they hadn't made Janja this evil in season 2 this even could've worked. Before the "tries to drown babies in lava" bit and other parts where he genuinely showed how dark he could be, he was a nasty guy who liked to infiltrate other's territories and overhunt at times, but overall he never really all THAT evil, even kind of pathetic a lot of the time. If he were to be redeemed from "kind of an asshole" to "kind of an asshole but domesticated and on the side of good", that could've worked. There'd probably still be some tensions between him and the lion guard especially, but overall it'd function better than trying to redeem him after such an evil act, especially with no real moment of comeuppance and just instant forgiveness.
Would've been something interesting to explore in the last season. Him trying to make amends for the hurt he and his clan caused and maybe or maybe not being forgiven in the end. But nope, we gotta redeem him within 40 minutes with instant forgiveness and no repercussions.
Also literally none of the other evil outlanders got punished either? Despite them siding with scar who is literally the evilest being in the known universe? What's up with that? Guess consequences for your actions aren't a thing in this universe.
