WIP Tag - 12 questions
I was tagged by my babe @cassandraxstardust thank you! And I’m going to tag @have-fun-storming-the-kastle because she can’t escape me and my tagging ever. So let’s go!
1. Tell us a little about your WIP (i.e genre, premise, anything you’d like to share about the plot…etc.):
So the first book is titled Prize (at this point) and it’s going to be part of the Silent Star Series, which will either be a duology or trilogy. The first book is from the perspective of 21-year-old Casper Arnett, the youngest member and captain’s son aboard the Solarus. They’re a cargo crew who make food and goods deliveries. It’s a pretty mundane existence, until Casper discovers two teenage stowaways - a girl named Dia and a boy named Smokes - aboard the ship.
The crew’s lives get infinitely more complicated at this point because it becomes very clear that there are important people after the teenage duo, which leads to Casper and those he cares about being thrown into a whole lot of danger. But Casper is very inquisitive and is determined to unravel the web of secrets surrounding Dia and Smokes.
2. Tell us a bit about your main protagonist(s):
Casper Arnett is the son of Beatrix, the compassionate but tough captain of the Solarus. He’s spent his whole life aboard the ship, and the crew are basically his extended family. He’s extremely curious and just as kind-hearted as his mum, although he does sometimes try and act macho. Casper cares deeply and probably a little bit too much about people. He’s honestly the biggest Hufflepuff.
Dia is one of the stowaways and probably the one who’s hiding the most secrets. She’s 18 years old with some quirky mannerisms that make Casper suspicious that the stories she tells don’t add up to who she really is. Although softly-spoken and seemingly frail, Dia is a lot more rough around the edges than she wants to let on. She’s an extremely troubled girl and she has some very powerful people after her.
Smokes is Dia’s protector, but more than that is a mystery. Their connection is intense and important without being romantic. They’re the same age and have known each other for years. “Smokes” is a fun nickname because of some his abilities. He’s a mercenary, after all, and his true identity is something that he keeps well under wraps. He’s hot-headed and sharp-tongued, and won’t hesitate to lash out.
3. A fun (or not so fun) fact about your protagonist(s)?
Casper was quite literally born on Solarus. Who’s his dad? Will he come into the picture? Probably not. I don’t consider his dad important. He’s been raised gently but firmly by Beatrix and she’s the only parental figure who matters to him.
4. How did you come up with the idea to write this story?
I think because I’ve read so many stories of the sweet girl and a broken boy so I thought, what if it was the other way around?
5. Who does/do your protagonist(s) trust most?
When it comes to Casper, that would definitely be Beatrix. He’s not afraid to admit to his mum when he’s wrong and also go to her for advice. I think that they have a very healthy mother-son relationship.
As for Smokes and Dia...well they only really trust each other at this point, and even that’s questionable.
6. Now tell us something about your antagonist(s):
Okay so there are a few and I can’t say too much without spoiling, but I think my favourite so far is Dresden Hemlock. He’s a galactic crime lord, but he’s fought tooth and nail to be where he is today. He was once poor and now he’s killed and deceived his way to the top, and he knows he still has to fight to stay there. I like to think he’s very flawed and human, he can relate to a lot of the others. He isn’t a sadist and he isn’t unreasonably cruel, he’s a businessman and he knows what it takes to stay in business.
7. Share a line of dialogue / or an idea for a scene you’re excited about:
I’m really excited for the scene where Dia’s true identity is exposed. It’s not right until the very end and it’s incredibly shocking, I’m hoping that finding out the truth about her will throw people off.
8. Share a line that spoils something (without context):
"Accident? Oh my dear girl. Surely you know that we don’t make mistakes. Every part of this was a piece of a far bigger plan. Including him.”
9. What do you enjoy writing most about this story?
I think the fact that almost all of the characters are neither “good” nor “bad”. Just when you think you’ve got someone figured out, it gets flipped upside down. I’m really hoping they come across as three-dimensional because the main characters all have their flaws and their problems that I’m really liking exploring.
10. Favourite relationships (platonic/romantic/enemies…etc.)
My favourite would have to be the brotp that is Dia and Smokes. So many times there’s this assumption that they’re something more, because how can a boy and girl be that close and be “just friends”? But it’s definitely telling of how strong their friendship is, despite the trials they have faced and will faced, that they’re incredibly close.
Dia and Casper is an incredibly slow-burn romantic pairing. It’s a relationship of growth for both of them that’s integral to the story, but they’re certainly not going to fall in love fast or anything like that. There are a lot of twists and complications they need to navigate before that happens.
11. What are you most looking forward to seeing your readers reactions to in the story?
I think some of the plot twists with Dia and Smokes. Just when you think you know who these kids are, you get another curveball, and the final truths will probably be a bit shocking.
12. Who is the hardest character to write?
Dresden! I’m not good at writing literal smooth criminals :P

I'm a terrible person. Might I request a scenario with Ace where his S/O gets seriously hurt protecting him, they live and everything there's just a lot of feels from both parties about not wanting the other to get hurt. Sorry if that doesn't make much sense.
Hello! I’m sorry it took so long. I didn’t know what to write. At first, it was about marineford but just the bullet points were too long. So I changed and changed it. I just hope you like it! Imnotgoodwithscenarios
The Spade Pirates were on their way to hunt down Whitebeard after hearing some intel about his whereabouts.“I’m going to get Whitebeard’s head and prove that I am strong enough to take on anyone! Then, I will be the pirate king!” your captain exclaimed loudly. The entire crew was supportive, well, maybe not Masked Deuce. He personally feels that we are rushing into it. Half of you feels the same as Masked Deuce while the other half just wants to believe in Ace and his abilities. It has been about 2 years since you have joined the Spade Pirates and everything was going well. So well that after you confessed your love to  Ace, he has never made you feel alone or unloved. You went back downstairs to your room and continued working on a special gift for Ace, for entering the New World. An Ace-shaped locket pin.
After a few hours, the pin was complete. You folded your Vivre card and place it into the locket pin. Looking up at the time, it was already time for dinner. “Urghhh… hmmm…?” Ace yawned, woke up from your bed and went over to give you a hug from the back.“I smell food, it is time for dinner right?” “HUH? When did you get in here?!” clearly shocked. The pin was supposed to be a surprise. You tried your best to hide it as fast as possible. “Hmmm? What is that? The thing you are trying to hide. Let me see!” being curious Ace managed to snatch it from you. Since he already saw it, you gave up and explained what it was and that it was supposed to be a surprise.   “Awww, how sweet~ Man, I’m the luckiest guy on the seas! What did I do to deserve you…” Ace has gotten kind of emotional and gave you a tight hug, burying his face into your shoulder. Noticing that you stroked his hair lovingly, “I’m the one who is lucky that I get to be with you like this.” Then gently gave him a peck on his lips and pins the locket into the edge of his hat.“Time for dinner! We don’t want our food to get cold, Ace!” you smiled at him and held his hand. Ace whined that he wanted to stay hugging longer and that kiss was too short. “I can heat up the food myself anyways.” pouting he reluctantly went up for dinner with you and joined the rest of the crew.
After dinner, Ace carried you to his room and continued the hugging session till both of you fell asleep.
After a few days of sailing, the Spade Pirates were so close to reaching Whitebeard but Jinbe the Shichibukai intervened to protect Whitebeard. “Everyone fall back! I will deal with him.” Ace ordered calmly and began to attack relentlessly with fearsome force. You have faith in Ace’s strength and patiently waits along with the crew. The longer the fight went on, the more worried you became. Is he alright? Isn’t he using up all his strength and stamina here? How long will this last? Masked Deuce felt the same way about this whole ordeal.
Five days have passed and the sun was going to set. Ace and Jinbe were still at it. Both were clearly tired but refused to stand down. “This fight will end soon,” said Masked Deuce, knowing how worried you have been for the past five days. You nodded in agreement and hope for the best. That he will not be fatality injured. Just as the sun was about to set, both Ace and Jinbe collapsed onto the ground. Seeing Ace falling to the ground, you rushed to his side. The crew all came running to him behind you.“Ace!! Are you ok? Where does it hurt the most?” these thoughts flew pass in your mind but your mouth can’t seem to form these words. Ace could tell that he made you worried so much and he caresses your cheek. He smiled, “I’m fine, just a little tired. That’s all. Don’t worry so much. Trust me.” “Reckless as always, Captain. The fight has ended.” Masked Deuce sighs with relief.
A few moments later, the man that Ace has been hunting for appeared. Whitebeard. Along with his main ship, Moby Dick.“This timing is terrible! Ace, please. Let’s get everyone out of here. You are not in a good state to fight against Whitebeard.” panicking for his and the crew’s safety. “No. Follow everyone and get out of here now. I will handle Whitebeard.” Ace grunts and stood up sluggishly. “What? Don’t be crazy! Look at you, you can’t even stand up straight! Please…” you tried to knock some sense into him one more time.“Trust. me. I will never back down from a fight.” what you said had made him rather mad. He glanced at you and looked away. His stare had never felt this cold. “Whoever wants to take my head, come and get me now if you can! Or else, I would take your head for myself.” Whitebeard bellowed.Ace charged straight at Whitebeard to land the first hit, while the rest of the crew did as what their Captain told. To fall back. You, however, refused to and chased after Ace. “Get over here!” Masked Deuce shouted at you. This made Ace’s head turn and he was shocked that you were chasing after him instead of falling back. Why? Do you know how important you are to me? Why are you doing this? Can’t you see that I am trying to protect you and everyone? Can’t you just trust me?Whitebeard sees that he let his guard down and uses it as an opening for an attack and threw his giant spear towards Ace. “Ace! Look out! Infront of you!” you charged at Ace while pushing you both out of the way. The spear grazed your arm rather deep.  "Please, let’s retreat. We can try again another day.“ practically begging him at this point. That spear could have hit you somewhere fatal. It could have impaled you. This is too dangerous for her. I love her. I can’t. ”No, we can’t continue this. Us? It is not working. Leave.“ Ace said coldly.  "H-Huh? I just want you to be safe. Please, I- ” without finishing your sentence Ace cut you off. “I SAID LEAVE. FROM THIS POINT ON, YOU ARE NO LONGER PART OF THE SPADES PIRATES.” He pushed you away and made a ring of fire around him and Whitebeard. He and Whitebeard continued to fight.
The fresh wound on your arm hurts, but it is not what that is hurting you the most right now. You stood up and slowly walked away from him, the crew, this whole scene. Tears naturally fell and stained your whole face. You can hear Masked Deuce shouting at you. About what happened. Why are you walking away from the crew? But you did not reply and continued walking away. Goodbye.
Ace failed to defeat Whitebeard. The Spade Pirates tried to get back their captain but alas, failed as well. Now the entire Spade Pirates is integrated into the Second Division Ship of Whitebeard’s Fleet.
After many failed assassination attempts, Ace eventually gave up and accepted the offer to join the Whitebeard Pirates.Sitting on the deck of Moby Dick, he thought about you. He was too harsh and regretted what he said. Where is she now? Are you alright? Does she really need me in her life? I want to see her. “Calm and rational now, yoi?” Ace looked up and sees the First Division Commander, Marco. “I am always calm and rational!” he retorted back.“Hahaha! Anyways, Oyaji says he wants to speak with you. Better hurry.” Marco said while walking away.
Ace got up and head to where Whitebeard is for their little talk. Ace told his past, his biological father, you and everything to Whitebeard. And Whitebeard just accepts everything wholeheartedly. “You know, I do wish I have more daughters. All these sons made this ship smelled like a pigsty.” Whitebeard’s laughter booms throughout Moby Dick. “Go find her, Ace.”Ace thanked him and rushed off on his striker. He took out your Vivre card from the locket pin on his hat and followed it eagerly.
On an island nearby, you have settled down in for a few months now. An Innkeeper saw you injured and bloodied that he took you to the hospital and now you are working in his to repay for his kindness.
“Such good weather today! On an errand for the innkeeper, darling?” the nice lady who sells vegetables grew familiar with me. “Yes I am, may I get the usual please, Madam?” smiling at how bright she is today. “Of course, dear! You can take these extra too! On the house for you!” “Ah, I can’t possibly-”“No worries! Just take it, dearie! If you want to thank me you can marry my son! A daughter like you would make me glad!” The usual banter. “Madam, I’m flattered but-” “But your heart already belongs to someone else. I know, I know! Just pulling your leg, dear! Now off you go. The Innkeeper must be waiting.” she gave me one last smile and sent me off.
You opened the door to the inn and heard a voice you know too well.
“Sir, have you seen this girl? About this tall?” He began rambling about your appearances. “Well, she is behind you, at the door. If I am not mistaken, young man.” The innkeeper pointed at you and chuckled a little. You can tell who it was, even if it was from a mile away. Ace. His eyes started watering and he rushed to give you a crushing hug.“I’m sorry, please forgive me. I did not mean anything that I have said. Come back to me. Or… do you not want to?” Ace’s voice was staggering and you could feel his tears seeping into your shirt. “Of course I want to…” affected by how emotional Ace is, you too started to cry on that spot. “Ahem, maybe you two can cry more towards the left so that you are not blocking the doorway?” the innkeeper chuckled once again. The two of you immediately went red and bowed.Simlutationously, you both shouted “S-Sorry for any inconvenience caused, sir!” Which made the innkeeper laughed even more.
The two of you went to the room that you stayed in and had heartfelt talks. Also catching up on what has happened to both of you respectively. Cuddling together for the first time in months. You agreed to go back to the pirate life with Ace and will be a part of the Whitebeard Pirates. Ace promised to never hurt you and to never put them into a situation where you have to save him ever again. You also promised to trust him more and try not to get into dangerous situations.
Ace: I love you.S/O: I love you too.Both: I LOVE YOU MOST!Both: I SAID IT FIRST.

Undertone, Chapter Seven
So! Not totally over the illness yet, but I'm getting there.
Grillby has some explaining to do! I wonder how Rin will react?
Warnings: None this time. I think.
Obvious disclaimer: I don’t own Undertale or any of the characters in it, just my own characters. This story is for fun. ^_^

Undertone, Chapter Seven
There was something off with Rin. Grillby was pretty certain he knew why, but he couldn't fix anything until the bar was cleaned and locked up for the night. So, even though he hated it, he pushed through it.
He showed her how to clean the tables and the seats of the chairs. He showed her how he swept the floor and wiped down the bar top. He explained how the till in the register was split into two different bags (one for the bank, and one to stay in the bar) and then locked in the safe. Since she was busy, he went to clean the kitchen by himself, but at one point he turned to find her mopping the floor by the fry station without being instructed or asked. She had sneaked in so quietly that he never heard her, studied what he was doing, then done the work herself.
He watched her out of the corner of his eye as he scraped the grill.
She's been so...silent.
When he thought about it, Rin's silence was what seemed so off about her. Being mute, silence had never bothered him. The world was rarely truly silent, and he was used to being left out of conversations simply because he couldn't really participate. But his inability to speak had never stopped Rin from speaking to him. It wasn't like it used to be with Sans, who talked at him before he had a notebook or his tablet system. Rin talked with him, always looking to see his responses, whether they were physical gestures or written out.
And ever since Muffet left, she hasn't said a word.
He gathered all of the cleaning supplies and showed Rin where to put them away while he dumped the mop water down the floor drain in the supply closet. It was the final step in the process, and now Grillby could explain the Muffet situation.
To show her that they were done, Grillby untied his apron and looped it over a hook by the now locked back door. She did the same and he gestured to the stairwell with a smile. Rin nodded and lead the way.
The walk downstairs was as silent as the cleaning had been. Fragments of old memories surfaced, reminding him of the ugly, jealousy-fueled fights he used to endure.
Just as he stepped off the last step, prepared to tap Rin's shoulder so he could start the conversation, she broke the silence.
"I...understand, Grillby."
That pulled him up short. She turned to look at him, her shoulders low.
"Muffet is beautiful. It's no wonder why anyone would like her." She looked down at herself. "Sans may be right, but if there really is competition, I truly can't compete with her."
She didn't yell. She didn't threaten. She didn't accuse him of doing things he hadn't done. His entire explanation vanished for the moment from him mind, and he stepped off the stairs in her direction.
Going on impulse again...what is it about her that makes me do this?
His thoughts didn't slow him down. In one move, he put the tablet on the kitchen counter and swept her up in a hug.
***
At first, Rin stood very still. Her mind wouldn't react. This wasn't what the voice had told her would happen.
You're just a pity case.
He's only letting you stay and work because he feels sorry for you.
It's all temporary.
Muffet is ten times the partner you could ever be to him.
He's going to let you down gently and then you'll have to look for a new place.
After a few seconds, her muscles relaxed and her mind began to think a little clearer.
I jumped to conclusions, didn't I? Again.
Finally, she wrapped her arms around him and returned the hug, squeezing a little harder than she meant to.
"I'm sorry. It's just, when I see a Monster as pretty as Muffet, it's hard not to compare myself to them and see everything I lack."
He let go and handed her the tablet.
*Muffet has been trying to convince me to go out with her for months. I've never been interested. Not even once.
Rin looked up at him, shocked. "Really?"
*Really. Come sit down and I'll tell you the whole story.
***
Once they were both comfortably nestled on the couch with mugs of calming rose hip tea, Grillby looked over at Rin apologetically.
*Are you ready? This could take a while.
"After all that cleaning, my body is very awake." She sipped her tea with a smile. "Weave away, Tale Master."
Nodding, he began.
*Back in the Underground, Muffet had only one purpose: to save the spiders trapped in the ancient ruins.
Grillby could see the questions on her face, so he held up a finger and continued typing.
*The ruins are where the humans fall into the Underground. Snowdin lies between the ruins and the rest of the Underground, and with all that snow and freezing temperatures, the spiders in the ruins couldn't leave. They would freeze to death before they made it out of Snowdin.
*So Muffet spent all of her time cooking and selling her baked goods in order to raise money to rescue the spiders and reunite the clans once more. It was the foremost thing on her mind, and she only ever saw other monsters as potential sponsors for her great expedition. Whenever she wasn't selling doughnuts at exorbitant prices, she spent her time with the spiders. She was their leader, after all.
"Well, you can't say that she wasn't dedicated to her calling." Rin pointed out. "To have that kind of focus and endless zeal for something is a quality that's hard to find. Among humans, anyway."
Grillby nodded in agreement.
*And she probably would have stayed that way down there until she raised enough money to complete her quest. Things changed a lot when the barrier was broken.
"The barrier...that's what was keeping all of the Monsters under Mr. Ebbot, right?"
*Correct. With the barrier down, we were free to leave, which meant that there would be no one left to help Muffet rescue the spiders.
"Oh, dear." Rin frowned. "What did she do?"
*She came to the surface with the rest of us, determined to save them. If she couldn't get money from us, she would get it from the humans.
*When she first began, Muffet baked everything in her kitchen and loaded it into a food cart. Then she would walk that cart to the center of town and sell her wares, pleading her case to anyone passing by.
Rin's eyes widened. "I can't imagine that going very well."
*At first, it didn't. People were afraid of her. They thought she looked strange and they avoided her cart. She was starting to wonder if she should rethink her plan when someone finally approached her. It was a child; a little boy who loved bugs, and he thought she was fascinating. He listened to her problem and begged his mother for a doughnut. He liked her and her wares so much that he started a collection at his school and brought her some money a week later.
"Aw!" Rin smiled. "Kids can be wonderful sometimes."
*I think that's when Muffet began to look at people, Monsters and humans, as more than just wallets full of money.
*Once that child broke the ice, other people bought her doughnuts and her popularity skyrocketed. Soon she needed a brick-and-mortar space to expand her business enough to meet the demand, so she came to me.
"Ah. Did you help her find a store?"
*Yes, although it pained her very much to spend the bulk of her hard-earned funds on the place. It took her several weeks before she finally gave in. I negotiated with the owners to buy the property rather than renting it, and now she is the landlord for two other businesses connected to her building, and she lives in the apartment above them. To this day, her bakery is the one place that humans don't seem to be afraid to visit. I honestly think that her store is the key to integrating ourselves into human society again.
"Wow. And she did all that in a year, too..." Rin pulled the blanket off the back of the couch and draped it over her legs. "So did she ever make enough to rescue the spiders?"
*Actually, yes. Around the beginning of the new year, she hired several monsters to drive horse-drawn wagons full of heated crates and lead them back down into the Underground. When they arrived at the ruins, Muffet explained why they had come back to the spiders. Some decided to stay, while others decided to leave with her, and they transported those spiders to Hotland safely.
"I'm glad. She saw her quest through to the end."
*Ah, but that was the problem: with the spiders rescued, Muffet returned to the surface without a purpose. She had a thriving business, employees to help her run it, and a home to live in. She had no goals anymore. Moreover, the spiders had been her constant companions, and they had all decided to stay in the Underground where they could live undisturbed. Muffet felt...lost.
"She was lonely, huh?"
*Back when we first arrived topside, she came to me for a little business advice. She must have taken a liking to me then. Maybe it was because I never judged her for her mission. I'm not sure exactly why, but she asked if we could be friends. I didn't see the harm in it, so I invited her to the bar.
"Huh. Isn’t that what you did to me?" Rin tilted her head at him.
While he was rushing to type, she giggled from behind her mug. "I'm kidding. It was a nice gesture. Did she come?"
Grillby sighed.
*Yes. It was a disaster. Usually, Muffet is a very proper person, and her only social interactions had been with the spiders she loved. So the bar was everything she couldn't stand: people laughing and being loud, alcohol, messy fast food... she hated it. Then Sans happened.
"Uh oh."
*He used his magic to goose her on the butt somehow and she thought it was Fish who did it. She slapped him three times across the gills and made a big scene, calling him all kinds of...unflattering names.
Rin winced. "Three times the arms AND the mouth of a sailor. Yikes."
Grillby chuckled soundlessly.
*Knocked him out cold for a few minutes. Once we got him awake again and Sans owned up to his prank, she was extremely embarrassed. She left in a rush and refused to come back in when the bar was open for a long time.
"I can't say that I blame her."
*That didn't stop her from pursuing me, though. She made excuses to visit in the hours before four o'clock. Honestly, not all of those visits were bad. Sometimes we just talked about the trials of being business owners. She would bring me herbs and tea and show me how to make my own blends. I started serving iced tea upstairs because of her.
"Well, I begrudgingly give credit where it's due. I love your tea blends." Rin sighed.
Grillby smiled then rubbed the bridge of his nose.
*Letting Muffet down gently is proving impossible. She simply can't take a hint. And I don't blame her for it; she just doesn't have to social skills to read people. The worst situations come from when she's been drinking too much wine at home and she comes in at night full of liquid courage. I spend the whole time she's in the bar diffusing her and convincing her to go home.
"And that's where the term 'blue moon' came from?"
He nodded.
*It only happened once every few weeks, so Sans began using that code to warn me that she was coming. I honestly thought she had given up when I hadn't seen her in a couple of months, but apparently I was wrong.
Rin put her empty mug on the coffee table. "She's pursuing you with all the zeal left over after she completed her mission, isn't she?"
Grillby nodded.
*That's what I believe. I think if she had a new goal in her life, she might not be as...zealous in her overtures.
"It could also be that she just genuinely likes you, you know." She shifted a little, a small frown on her lips. "I mean, I can think of a bunch of reasons why you're a good catch."
He snorted.
*I'm just a mute Fire Elemental that runs a bar.
"No, Grillby, you're so much more than that!" Rin sat up and turned to face him. "You're kind to everyone, you make amazing food, you're funny, you're intelligent, you're VERY attractive-"
He started to blush about halfway through her speech, which must have made Rin rethink her words. She blushed a bit herself and eased back into the sofa again.
"You helped pull the Monster community together when they were faced with adversity. You gave them homes and places to work. And the bar is like...a little piece of home that never changes." She smiled over at him sheepishly. "There are many reasons why I...why everyone likes you so much."
Grillby could tell that she was embarrassed by her passionate outburst, but he felt a little bolder after hearing it. Remembering Sans' advice, he decided to "put the ball in her court".
*I don't know about the hero part, but I think I want to hear more about the first bit.
He lifted his eyebrows and gave her a knowing smirk, delighting in the darker tone her cheeks took on.
"Wh- what?" Rin shifted until she was sitting with both feet on the floor. She looked like she was ready to bolt.
*The first part. Do you really think I'm...attractive?
***
When she looked up from the tablet, Grillby was suddenly much closer than he had been before. His nose was only inches from hers, and he was staring at her intently. Her stomach did a flip and she tried to control her voice as she spoke.
"I, uh...yes. Yes, I do think you're handsome."
*How?
Grillby had turned on his front facing camera to inspect his face.
*I think I might be out of touch with what humans find physically attractive these days. I always thought women favored men with facial hair. I can't grow a beard.
"No, not necessarily." She corrected him. "And besides, a beard isn't the only thing we look for in terms of beauty. You have...uh, other qualities that make you attractive."
He blinked over at her, and Rin could see some genuine curiosity in his eyes.
*Like what?
Rin felt like her throat wasn't working properly.
"Hm?" She squeaked.
*I've been staring at this face all my life. I don't see what you see. Would you show me?
He scooted right next to her and turned on his camera again, waiting for her to say something.
"Um, well, there's-"
He shook his head.
*Show me. I won't burn you.
Rin swallowed hard as he flipped back to his camera once more.
He's already kissed you once! Calm down.
She took a deep breath and lifted her hand.
"Okay, well, I think you have a nice jawline." She lightly traced the edge of his jaw. "It's not sharp, but it's well defined. Strong."
She hesitated and he lifted an eyebrow at her.
That's not the only thing. He’s a good looking guy! Tell him more.
"There's, uh, also your eyebrows..." She traced one, half expecting to feel some hair. The flames warmed her finger. "They look like they're well-groomed. Do you have to do anything to make them look this way?"
He shook his head slightly. She pursed her lips.
"Then you're lucky. Your body has given you perfect eyebrows and you don't even have to work at it."
He smiled, and she did too. Then she continued before her confidence gave out.
"I really like how all of your features are highlighted in a lighter shade of orange. You've got everything a human has under those flames." She turned her body a little more to look at him.
"And your eyes...I love your eyes."
Alarm bells went off in her head.
ABORT! ABORT! TOO HONEST! TOO HEAVY! MAKE A JOKE! DISTRACT! ABORT!
Grillby seemed just as surprised by her words as she was herself.
*My...eyes? No one's ever mentioned my eyes.
Rin couldn't come up with a good segue into a joke, so naturally she just dug the hole deeper.
"I, uh, well, it's just that they start as a darker orange at the center and get lighter you go out toward the edges of your eyes." She fumbled over her words. "I really like them."
MAYDAY! MAYDAY! WE HIT THE TRUTH-BERG! WE'RE SINKING! S.O.S! S.O.S!
Rin fell silent. She didn't think she could continue after that last declaration.
*I love your eyes, too.
Her heart skipped a beat.
*I think they're amazing. I never know exactly what I'll see until I look. They shift all the time, just like me.
His eye flicked up from studying his arm and met hers. Rin felt herself falling into those orange pools of light as he held her gaze. When the alarm bells in her head finally became louder than her pounding pulse, she remembered to breathe and spoke.
"I also like your floaty candle-hair."
The color drained from her face. Rin couldn't stop the cringe that followed her statement.
SHE'S FLATLINING! WE'RE LOSING HER! GET THE DEFIBRILLATOR!
From behind her eyelids, she heard a strange hissing noise. Rin cracked open one eye to find Grillby nearly doubled over in laughter. Light orange tears leaked out of his eye and rolled down his cheek. All at once, every ounce of tension that had built up from her panic surged out of her in a stream of giggles, mixing with Grillby's hisses and crackles.
*Floaty candle-hair?
"I'm sorry!" She laughed. "I couldn't think of a better way to describe it!"
*It's perfect. Just like you.
The blush on her face flared again, and Rin felt it spread up her ears.
*Anyway, it's late. I'm going to get ready for bed.
Grillby stood up and offered her a hand to help her stand, too. She slipped her hand into his palm and he pulled her up, MUCH faster than she'd expected. She squeaked as she fairly flew off the couch, and he moved to catch her.
Rin landed rather awkwardly in his arms, grabbing fistfuls of his shirtsleeves in an effort to steady herself. When she managed to get her feet back under her, she giggled breathlessly and looked up at him.
Grillby's eyebrows were drawn together with concern, but he smiled down at her and mouthed the words I'm sorry.
"It's alright."
He flipped his phone around so she could see what he'd written.
*No, I mean it. For everything. The mess with your mom, moving on short notice, running you ragged on the first day of your new job, Muffet... These past few days have been rough. I'm sorry.
"I'm not." She took a step back and took her hair out of its pony tail. It was a bit messed up anyway. She shook it down and tucked it behind each ear as she spoke.
"Yeah, the situation with Karin is...bad. But it's not new. I've been dealing with her my whole life. As far as moving out is concerned, I feel safer here than I have in any apartment I've ever rented." She raked a hand through her hair a couple of times to smooth it out, focusing her eyes back on his face. "And you didn't run me ragged; I had a lot of fun tonight just getting to know everyone! The families that came in at dinner time were lovely and the regulars were hysterical. They were wonderful to me."
She folded her arms against her stomach, sort of crossing them and pulling them close to her body.
"And Muffet was an eye-opener, for sure, but now that you've told me her story...it's hard to stay upset with her. Especially knowing that she was probably drunk."
*I'm glad you feel that way. Muffet's not a bad person. And I will make time to go and talk to her. I have to make it clear that there's someone else I'm interested in.
A warmth spread through her as she looked up and saw Grillby's subtle smile. The corners of his eyes crinkled up affectionately and his mouth pulled into a gentle curve. She was starting to think that it was an expression he saved just for her.
And she loved that.
***
They spent the next few minutes getting ready for bed. They traded off using the bathroom, and Rin went second so the water wouldn't bother him. He'd explained earlier that he made every faucet he used safe, but the shower was something he didn't need nearly as often.
After her shower, Rin came out to find all but one of the lights in the living room turned off. The light in Grillby's room was on, and as she stepped over to it, she could see him sitting on his bed, scrolling through his phone.
"Thanks for leaving the light on for me." She toweled her damp hair while she walked.
He inclined his head with a soft smile. Her smile.
"Well, I think I'll hit the hay. See you in the morning."
Grillby nodded and mouthed the word Goodnight.
Rin started to walk away, then stopped.
"And Grillby?" She paused.
She was out of his line of sight, but she knew he was listening, so she kept going.
"I think my favorite feature of all is your heart."
Rin turned out the light and went into her room, shutting the door behind her.

a DAMN GOOD IGNIS MOMENT.
But really, the more I watch it the more I realise it’s not only a fantastic Ignis moment, it’s a fantastic Chocobros moment in general? REALLY LONG POST AHEAD + UNFINISHED GAMEPLAY WRITING BUT THIS SCENE
Lemme start with Ignis because duh (if you’ve seen anything out of me the past two weeks, it’s probably been Ignis related). He’s been pretty passive about losing his eyesight up until this point. He calls it a minor sacrifice in the grand scheme of things. When Noctis and Gladio fight on the train, Ignis says nothing, even though part of the argument is his own injury. He only tries to stop Gladio by saying his name; Prompto is the one who tries to break it up (more in a moment. anyway not that Ignis really could break it up rn but you know) He’s been optimistic enough about it, though. “I’ll manage somehow” when you invite him into the mines. “This is considerably harder than I expected” he says about fighting. But sometimes you hear the boys say something and Iggy just sort of sighs. They’re dancing around him, and his injury, and the argument, and this scene is where it culminates.
The first time he actually says that it isn’t okay is because of their friendship hitting a low point, rather than his actual injury. But he is so, so aware of that injury and how it has the potential to drag them down. He still says “I would remain with you all. Til the very end” because these are his brothers and he damn well plans to, but that said.
This is the first time we hear Ignis raise his voice, I think. Not including battle cries and the like. Which is saying a lot because this boy is very, very calculated on his emotions. (ie later on when Prompto falls off the train, you hear the very audible difference in Noctis’s voice vs Iggy’s) He’s Crownsguard, Noctis is his king, he will do anything for him, and believes he has no reason to complain even if he has gone blind. But that’s a Big Thing. His yelling in this scene exactly “I know full well!” is finally, finally his frustration coming out and it’s triggered because of their bickering (or anti-bickering, since they aren’t really... speaking much).
He says he is willing to bow out if he starts to slow them down, which imo is like asking him to suffer a physical injury all over again (he is Crownsguard, Noctis is his king, he will do anything for him) but he still will DO IT because he won’t be a burden.
He goes on to give Noctis what, I think, is a much needed confidence boost. “A king pushes onward always, accepting the consequences and never looking back” and in the opening sentences for the next chapter, it literally uses those same words to describe Noct’s reaction to Ardyn’s trick: never looking back. (Also never looking back is exactly what Ignis is doing right now, which is why the choice to focus the camera so much on his scars in that moment is AMAZING.)
He continues with that to tell Gladio that Noct will be king and he will rule, but “only once he’s ready”. And this is SO important. Gladio’s interaction with Noct is painful at least and rage inducing at worst (more below) but not only does Noct need to hear this, Gladio does, too. They can push Noctis into that throne but he will never be able to lead until he is ready, and that involves coming to terms with some very, very heavy stuff that’s been happening. Everybody doesn’t handle grief the same way and they’re all having a hard go at it in very different ways thanks to the events of late.
So all of this makes this the DAMN GOOD IGNIS MOMENT. But it’s also really good for the rest of them, both in mentioned ways and others, but since I’m apparently waxing poetic
Prompto, Gladio, and Noctis under the cut ↓ (note: 150% zoom for easier reading)
Okay, Prompto, my dear, sweet Prompto. Literal ray of sunshine. Prompto isn’t one for confrontation. This boy is our peacekeeper. We see him trying to get Gladio and Noctis to stop fighting on the train. He still takes photos while they’re in the mine “I took some more pictures today... do you want to see them?” “No. Not really” “Yeah, okay” (paraphrasing, I was busy crying over the fact that all of our recipes are gone), he is endlessly cheerful, and when they finally get to the tomb, he says “We did it! Together!”. He spends most of the time in the mine helping Iggy, too; every time Iggy fell, Prompto was there to help him back up.
Which leads into him being defensive over Ignis when Gladio says he doesn’t agree that he should continue with them. (“We’ll be there” which at this point it’s basically only Prompto taking 90% of Iggy’s care into his hands, Noct’s too numb and Gladio does help out in cutscenes rather than gameplay) When he tells Gladio that Ignis should be free to choose, look at his face. This is the closest thing we’ve seen to our ray of sunshine being angry at one of his friends (iirc, it’s been a long couple weeks). It’s not even a down and out screaming match, it’s not pushing and shoving, it’s just that look on his face. I’m not even sure how to describe it. The point is he isn’t standing there being peacekeeper; he’s standing up for Ignis now. (Which I wish we saw more of this because you know this boy loves his friends more than he loves his own life.)
When Ignis says the bit about Noct being ready, Prompto spins on Gladio and nods. (it looks like a nod, even if it wasn’t intentional I’m sticking to that) It’s that kind of yeah moment. You know, when someone’s being ignorant and they get told and you’re like WHAT NOW. Ignis is telling Gladio something he doesn’t want to hear and Prompto is actively agreeing without needing to trip over words that ring with confrontation himself.
I would normally say he’s getting an attitude, or growing a spine, but neither of those are particularly accurate especially because Prom does have a spine (that Niff weapon thing they use to fight Leviathan! jumping out of the train to help Noct fight! going after Ardyn! this is all just in the same chapter or two!) but he’s not sitting there and being silent around his friends when this serious situation has come up. And he really hasn’t had a chance to speak up about anything as serious because this is the first time the Chocobros have been fighting, anyway, so this is also a good growth scene for him.
Onto Gladio. He is not my favourite person right now. Will he redeem himself? I’m sure. Will that make up for my opinion of him now? Who knows. (this is my first playthrough) But regardless of if you love Gladio or hate Gladio at this point in time, he does have his reasons for acting the way he is - even if it is, imo, misguided anger. That’s a whole different post, though.
When Ignis says “when Noctis is ready” (this is integral, people, lol) yes, he is subtly telling Gladio that he needs to back down a bit and yes, that isn’t what Gladio wants to hear because Noctis is their king and he should be handling it better. But this is also a lesson Gladio desperately, desperately needs to learn just then.
Above I said everyone handles grief differently and Gladio’s handling it in his way and Noct’s way of handling it is pretty much not handling it at all, so it makes it seems like he isn’t making any progress. But here Ignis calmly, ideally tells Gladio “He’s going at his own pace. He needs to do this himself. You need to let him do this himself. He will.” I feel like this is Gladio getting reminded that Noctis is only a twenty year old who’s just lost his father, his fiancee, and let one of his best friends receive a life-altering injury. He’s king, and he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he is human. I feel like Ignis is the one who can get through to Gladio the most and even though Gladio blatantly looks at Noctis when he says that they had better all be ready, it isn’t nearly as aggressive as his previous “get your head out of your ass”.
And when they leave the mine, Gladio says that they can stop at Tenebrae if it’s going to help Noctis move on. Granted he doesn’t say “if it’ll help you”, just “if it’ll help him”, but still: growth.
And Noctis, who has surprisingly the least amount of meta inducing action in this scene, gets to hear what he needs to hear. When you talk to Gladio before entering the tomb you get the message that Gladio’s words have lit a fire in Noctis’s heart even if you show frustration (idk what happens if you pick show resolve) but personally I feel like he gets so much more out of what Ignis says.
“Only once he’s ready.” Only once you’re ready, Noct. (I N T E G R A L)
(And here’s the thing: he’s saying almost exactly the same thing Gladiolus is, but in a different way. He’s still saying you need to move on and face what’s happened to be our king. But he is also saying when you’re ready. Because it won’t work otherwise.)
There’s just so much about this scene that I love? And a lot of probably comes out as disjointed but that’s my take on this moment. It’s literally painful because the whole game has been one giant road trip full of fun and food and photos and fish and now this happens all at once but this is. so. real. It’s subtle enough but there’s so much crammed into this minute and a half that reminds me, despite the flaws, just how freaking amazing this game is.

Timothy Glenn ~ 2018: Welcome to the Storm
Today’s post comes from my “tell-it-like-it-is” friend, the beloved Timothy Glenn. In retrospect, you’ll find his pre-Eclipse article from August 2017 eerily prophetic. I have a few notes before his article begins. Since people always ask me for my own take on Tim’s information, I’ll share my comments here.
I very much agree with Tim’s observations about the Opt-Out Clause. I was just saying, “People are dropping like flies these days — young ones, too.” In addition to our dear friend Tim Martin who passed right before Saturn went into Capricorn, I’ve supported so many people and animals as they crossed over these past few months, and/or helped their remaining loved ones process the changes.
I do want to mention that in addition to those opting out, with the fertility work I do, I also see so many amazing souls opting in. The huge hearts, creativity and determination of the souls coming in right now, as well as those who’ve incarnated in the past few years, give me tremendous hope and inspiration for humanity and our planet. Please don’t read this post as a doom and gloom post! As Anatole France said, “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy, for what we leave behind us is apart of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter into another.” The old world is dying, but I know so many people embracing the new world in astonishing and beautiful ways.
Tim uses the word “sheeple,” which I don’t tend to use, as it can sound condescending. If you feel the same way, for the purposes of this article, perhaps consider the differences between sheep and goats. Saturn just entered its home sign of Capricorn — the goat. If you’ve ever watched sheep and goats on a farm, at a fair, or in the wild, you can’t help noticing the sheep (except the black ones — they really are different!) just going along to get along. Meanwhile, the goats seem to have a lot more fun. I adore their hilarious antics, curiosity, tossing aside of rules, and their determination to get wherever they want to go and to explore whatever they want to experience.
We’ve entered a time that favors goats. If you’ve followed the sheepish way your whole life, now’s a great time to cut loose and enjoy the journey! And now, here’s Tim:
  2018: Welcome to the Storm
By Timothy Glenn
A couple months ago, I started but didn’t finish writing an article called “It’s Already in the Fan”. This is how it began:
2017: SHTF (Shit Hits the Fan) 2018: SFOOTF (Shit Flies Out of the Fan)
If you pan the camera back and watch world events unfold in slow motion, you can then get a feel for this analogy. However, the masses have little sense of timing, a severely diminished attention span, and an extremely short memory. The criminal cabal that has been running and ruining the world counts on those phenomena to maintain its bogus narrative.
Many millions of people still sleepwalk under the spell of the Matrix, and continuously reinforce their programming by relying on so-called mainstream media; the corporate propaganda machine. The system plays a game of distraction through lies, distortions and misrepresentations to inculcate into the populous a wildly false worldview.
Meanwhile, those of us who are no longer under the spell have been connecting dots that remain unseen by the sleepwalkers, otherwise known as the sheeple. We are vigilant. We are diligent. And we can assure you that a more complete picture will emerge in 2018. By the end of the year, the sheeple who are still unable to awaken will appear like a species apart, and it might behoove us to leave them far behind on the evolutionary path.
Mark Twain is credited with saying, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.” That was more than a hundred years ago, and now the situation is more than a hundred times more drastic.
Here is an excerpt from the article Eclipsing Our Reality, posted on Laura Bruno’s blog back during the influential August eclipses:
The Planetary Data Dump
“Independent researchers, journalists and investigators have been unearthing massive troves of data to expose the workings of the political, religious and economic machine that has long held humanity in abject slavery. This eclipse season will give their efforts a welcome boost. But what will so many typical Earthlings do when their favorite political figures and entertainers are revealed as the criminals they have been all along? Suggestion: deal with it.”
Now let’s get into 2018…
2 + 0 + 1 + 8 = 11
Card 11 in the Tarot deck is Justice, depicting a woman who wields the Sword of Justice. Taking this into the context of the overall chart of the world, 2018 will become a year of comeuppance, a year of consequences.
Saturn entered its own sign of Capricorn right after the Winter Solstice, and is delivering a sobering message: get serious; get real.
It has been said that the disclosure of what has been happening on Planet Earth needs to be done incrementally. As a wise old man said back in the 1970’s: if people knew one tenth of a percent of what is really going on in this world, they would lose it; freak out; short circuit; come unglued; fall apart. A recent assertion states that if this grand revelation were thrust upon the sheeple all at once, more than half the population would be so traumatized, they would have to be hospitalized. Among other considerations, we don’t have the facilities.
The mesmerized sheeple adore certain so-called celebrities, who carry on as perverts and criminals behind the scenes. But the Sword of Justice also doubles as the Sword of Truth, and will cut through the facades of the creepazoids pretending to be the good guys. Suggestion: brace yourselves, and get ready for a variation on the term Hollywood Ending.
Truth Will Out
“For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.” Luke 8:17
That is not merely a nice-sounding Bible quote, but a universal principle. Everything is The Field, and will ultimately awaken to that Reality. As we awaken more and more to our own reality as The Field, we will be able to perceive the truth about everything else within The Field. And on the human level, some folks may struggle with a lot of what they encounter on the path of awakening. Facts are facts, and they don’t care about our feelings.
Again from the article Eclipsing Our Reality:
“The fluffy “it’s all good” crowd will be challenged to look at our collective shadow: war, murder, poverty, rape, conquest, exploitation, abuse, deception, human trafficking, organ harvesting, pedophilia, child sacrifice and on and on and on.”
Anyone can deny reality if they want, but no one can escape the consequences of denying reality. Humanity’s deep, dark, ugly shadow side is emerging for us to face, heal and integrate.
Fair Is Fair
Most facets of the human world have been run by predator souls from other realms, who are capable of incarnating in human form. These forms include human/alien hybrid bloodlines that pass for human; and they have done this throughout our known history. They epitomize the analogy of the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
This is not a matter of good versus evil, however much it may appear that way. They are predators and we have long been something they eat. Their favorite methods of feeding may look abhorrent to us, but what do we look like to cattle? As above, so below.
If we take freedom away from cattle, breed them to suit our purposes, and kill them for food, where is our room for complaint when a more powerful and more intelligent species does the same to us? We have already set the template for how we deserve to be treated.
But the main point here is that a huge portion of humanity’s collective shadow is not necessarily human. And we would not be prey unless we had acquiesced at some level, so we do have culpability and responsibility here.
However we adjudicate matters as they rise to the surface, there will be a balance to find and maintain with our scales of Justice.
Truth and Reconciliation
As far back as the early 1990’s, a point emphasized in the Proterrian channelings has been that unless we adopt an official policy of forgiveness, we’re screwed. This has nothing to do with being a doormat or continuing to wallow in victimhood. But we are also warned against indulging in an unbridled lust for vengeance, in which case we would be dragged down to the level of the predators, and the fight would most likely go on for ages.
We want the truth to be known and the violations to end. We could reconcile by peacefully co-existing or vibrating into separate realms or shifting onto different timelines. Infinity holds plenty of options for us.
Any part of humanity that clings to its fear, hatred and judgment of the predators will cling to the predators. This applies to us individually as well as collectively.
Some people in the “truth movement” bang their fists on the table and yell about bringing “these criminals to justice”. This is one more area where we simply don’t have the facilities. For example, it would prove extremely impractical to put a third of the government in jail, plus their myriad cronies in the private sector, not to mention the “owners” who pull all the strings.
Once the facts have emerged into the open, the violators will be known. Most of them will learn to behave themselves after being exposed, because no one will want to vote for them or do business with them. They will be stripped of their power, which had been based on illusion all along.
Contract Nullification
2018 will also offer opportunities to enact another form of Justice for ourselves. We can declare “soul contracts” and other such entrapments to be null and void. If you find you have been misled and manipulated into agreeing to commitments that no longer resonate with you, then you can gracefully dissolve all such entanglements. If you have been conned into signing a tract, feel free to tear it up.
The Luciferians have been obsessed with agreements. They have all made their deals with the devil, but they will now begin to see that Lucifer does not deliver. He may have lieutenants who provide goodies as incentives, so long as there is a use for the recipients. But sooner or later, his minions will outlast their usefulness and then be hung out to dry. They will find out that Lucifer has been as dishonest with them as they have been with the rest of us. As above, so below.
The Opt-Out Clause
As a soul prepares to incarnate in this world, a little quirk seems to go unnoticed: It always looks easier from there!
Many times a soul will find itself cut off from its human component to the degree that it seems unlikely ever to accomplish the mission, so the soul opts out. There can be a wide variety of reasons a soul may choose to leave the game before the end of “regulation play”. Within the constructs of the Matrix, this process is known as death.
The soul also has a much clearer view of the road ahead than its human personality does. In times such as these, many souls determine that their human selves would sustain far too much damage by facing the looming events of the near future, so they invoke the opt-out clause. You may have noticed an uptick in this phenomenon lately, and we could very well see an increase as 2018 unfolds.
Disclosure for True Closure
In 2018 we will take significant steps forward in our journey of disclosure: finding out more of our true history and actual standing in the galaxy. This will automatically pave the way for closure with the old world; with its minions, and with its way of life and death.
Some folks may choose to go down with the ship of the old world. They may not be able to face the reality of their idols and heroes being revealed as the scumbags and villains who had pulled the wool over their eyes, deceiving and exploiting them. Well, blessings on your journeys, guys.
It will take years to sort everything out. 2018 will not bring about the ultimate resolution, but will mark the beginning of the end.
