Bonus! Based on this quick thing I did this afternoon and the idea took a bit more shape and turned into that thing from above uEK
#not too much effort on the colors with this one#o would’ve left it just with lineart but at the end I thought it would look nicer with some rough shadows#shadowing. you know what I meant.#his plant markings being extremely faint on his eyes when they aren’t glowing is very true to me also#I think itd be awesome if Vash’s eyes would just look like that when he isn’t masking#or they could be a bit more lax but still look like they are staring far far away into the void#or into your souls if you so happen to make eye contact with him. like woowoo over here#he is probably listening for one of his sisters who is not so close to him. maybe even Kni? who knows it’s up to interpretation#Vash’s hair can be such a nightmare also. i just woke up and realized my art did developed holy crap
#girl what drawing tf2 does to a mf fr#since i have been drawing tf2 my artstyle just developed better and now i finally have found an original artstyle compared to the ones#i had back in the beginning of 2023#IF ONLY I WASNT SO LAZY and so distracted holy shit i could make it more better like studying backgrounds ugh#and keep practicing my coloring girl i have been drawing a lot but not coloring i need to start painting before i forgot it#but oh my god i swear it developed bc i am drawing a little more fast than before and my lineart is more bold than before#guys fucking practice with tf2 characters and ALSO dorohedoro that is also my main inspo too#i feel like also w dorohedoro i developed my style but back then i was still more shaky than bold#but now i can happily say i am no more embarrassed in my artstyle of how i draw characters like i used to be before#i was always so goddamn negative for no reason with myself but i guess the negativity helped me develop my artstyle#but gave me artblock sadly… and often issues w self esteem but aaaa idk i think i’m doing much better i can do better yes just…#need to draw more and that is the actual nightmare huh

I noticed there's more of a difference now, it reminds me of toothless from HTTYD.
In part one toothless was a somewhat dark, dark Navy blue color(kinda like chaos) and then in the other two he goes completely black (like nightmare) was this intentional tinkering or maybe you just went random?
To be honest, I always try to connect things/designs/etc to the story. (I have a whole google doc written about this Au, so that I won't forget it)
I always try to make my ideas look like it was intentional, no matter what. And with Chaos' color, that's exactly what it was. My main idea with Chaos' design, was for him to have more turquoise colors, to symbolize a little bit Fanon Nightmare.
At first, I drew Nm And Chaos with light lineart.
At that time, the only resemblance the two had, were their colors, and tentacles. I wanted to draw Chaos' tentacles more stiff, and less flowy than Nm, to symbolize he was fake. Or rather, a copy.
I didn't really think that much about it at that time, I only saw this as a little silly joke, that's not going to get relevant in the future, so I left the design at that.
But then, I got really tired of looking at their lineart- so I drew them with black lineart. But that would meant that the two couldn't be recognizable to the viewers, so I decided to change Nm outfit.
I researched for AWHILE for me to get to an outfit I really liked, and thought would look good on Nm. So I settled on his current jacket.

I rewrote the script, so that Nm changing outfits would be somewhat reasonable, so I figured that Nm would probably don't like the fact him and his clone share the same clothes, and he'd eventually want to be recognized from him.
Over the time, I got tired of Chaos color- It was too similar to Nm, in my opinion (even though that was the main intention). And then, I got the genius idea, that would let me explore and, let's say... Toy with Chaos' design. The idea is basically this;
The more Chaos strays away from his main goal/purpose, the more his code is REBUILDING itself into another, completely different code. It sounds a little complicated...but it's not, really! I just cannot explain stuff for the life of me T~T
If you pay attention to my art, you can notice the first changes to Chaos' design in this comic;
So..while it was a thing- IN THE SPUR of the moment, I managed to make it fit into the story, and to make sense of the change.

Decided to draw them since I want to do something pretty funny with em later! Thinking about a Cram (as in Cat!Dream) fic. I was originally going to do Catmare, but Nightmare gets so much love already so I will go with Dream instead. The little guy needs some love too!
I'm wondering if I should start it when Cram wakes up from being a statue oooor if I should do it from the very beginning. I have an idea for both ways but I want to focus on only one to flesh it out. Let me know what you guys think!

I love your art so much, you’re part of the reason I started drawing again. Your old art is cool, and your new art just has so much emotion and detail in it, it deserves so much praise. Do you have any advice on how you upskilled so well into the amazing art you do today? I really want to learn to be skilled like you are and improve to your level
Dude, thank you so much. I'm super flattered but also have major Impostor Syndrome right now lol.
The biggest thing that helped me was getting a drawing tablet and learning how to use digital art programs like Canvas or Procreate. I am a very messy artist - my traditional sketchbooks were always a nightmare because of how often I erase shit, so being able to use programs where I can simply undo or reposition a line was a game-changer.
I'm also incredibly indecisive and struggle with linework, but I found some great brushes that mimic the effects of ink pens and watercolor so I can achieve the messy, painted look. (This Sketchbook set and lineart set are the two I use the most)
Use as many references as you need! Gather a bunch of base poses to get the hang of proportions and anatomy (my go-to artist is Mellon_Soup. Screenshots from movies and shows work great too)
Try out posing tools like this one
A fun exercise that helps me is to paste a photo or drawing on one layer, and then on the layer above, sketch the main aspects in 30 seconds. Delete the first layer and then work solely off of the sketch (and yes it will absolutely look spooky and/or silly). If you need more time at first, start with 60 seconds and work your way down as you get the hang of it:
Take pictures of yourself in the poses you want to draw
Find artists with a style that resonates with you and study their work
The Multiply tool on Procreate is AMAZING for adding depth to artwork. I use this on almost everything. Add a slightly darker color on top of the whole set of layers, switch it to Multiply, and then go in with the eraser to mark the areas where the light hits
Keep practicing, no matter how shitty you think it looks! Just keep going!!

It all started when Stranger Things season 4 part 1 came out, and I saw that scene where Mike apologizes to Will. While I was watching I was like “well, something is going on here 🤭” The staging of that scene, the intimacy, the feeling I was an intruder while watching - it felt like I was watching Skam France season 3. So I immediately started shipping BYLER.
(once I read ”gay culture is being a teenage when you’re 30 because your teenage years were not yours to live” and that’s exactly my case)
And, well, some people used to say I should start studying animation. And then I thought “I should try to make a frame by frame animation for Byler 🤔 with some 80’s song I enjoy 🤔 and then:
Will Byers Animation - Never Let me Down Again - Depeche Mode
(I can publish just one video for every post, so the next images are just a frame from the animations. I can post other videos later).
The purpose was to make a good animation about something I like and use it as a portfolio.
I started making the lineart work on July/22. I finished it just on November. and I needed to paint all the frames yet (And draw the background and make all the post production stuff).
It was not perfect, but I tried my best to make it happen.
When I was almost finishing it I realize animation is not exactly my thing. Anyway, I have a endless tenderness for this project and I wanted to finish it with all my heart ♥️ Now I don’t wanna finish it to use as a portfolio and to study animation. Honestly it is JUST for the fandom and for the love of byler.
In November, I traveled to Portugal to “start again” (I had this dream to move to Europe). My wife and my cat would come after me, when I get a job and a rent (I’m living with a friend).
But the computer I brought with me from Brazil to Portugal just broke in December. So I’m unable to finish the animation. 💔
And everything is going downwards here. I just realize taking that risk to live in Europe was such a mistake. I realize I’m more into the autistic spectrum then I thought, so everything is terribly painful and I can’t find a job. At least, I’m learning so much about myself and I can’t imagine any other way for this to happen. All I want right now is to come back to Brazil (I NEVER thought I would say it), respect my autistic boundaries, return to my shitty graphic designer job, finish the Byler animation and still studying drawing and stuff for my main project grows. This is very much out of season, but I always meant to draw the summer matsuri outfits for Hokushin and Raizen from Maji Battle and just didn't get around to it till now. You do not understand how amazed and happy I was that Hokushin got an outfit. Like I literally did not ever think this would happen!! And even more amazing is that I actually really like the outfit they gave him!!
The colour palette is green like Yusuke's uniform and it says "Thunder" (kaminari/rai as per Raizen's name) and they even made his necklace a magatama just like in North Bound as I blabbed about here etc. and he throws fireworks! Hahaha. Hilariously, the pattern looks like kagome ("basket-eye") to me, which evokes the woven pattern of a basket and is a protective design that guards against demons LOL. (I'm only familiar with the most common wagara so if someone recognizes it as something else please do let me know!)
Raizen's outfit looks very cool but the design of his yukata and all his accessories are a nightmare for me to draw, especially when squinting at a screenshot I took on my phone. I conveniently covered 80% of it with Hokushin and yakitori and dango. At least he gets some food, I suppose...

Hiiii, um, if it's not too much trouble, can you explain artfight to me? I know the basic premise, it's a battle between two teams and other people can "attack" you by drawing your o/cs (you can retaliate back by drawing theirs), but what's it like being in art fight?
How late are you allowed to sign up? Would you say the userface is newbie friendly? I don't know if you would know (since your art is already really cute), but is art fight... like... better/worse depending on your skill? Would you recommend it for beginners?
Hi hi! It's no trouble at all!!
First of all, the next few days will be a nightmare for the site in general, the traffic is really high so you will have issues doing pretty much anything but it will calm down during the next week.
The premise is you have all your ocs ref sheets uploaded on there, and anyone during this month of july can draw art of them and 'attack' you with it. Even if they are the same team (will just get less points)
It's up to you drawing a revenge or not but it's a nice way of getting extra points and saying thanks for the art. Also! The interface is like medium level of friendly, mostly keep in mind if you don't know where somethign is, it's probably under user settings on one of the tabs.
No deadline to sign up you got all month!! And it's totally begginer artist friendly don't worry about it, you decide the level of effort you put into your art when you submit an attack, it asks if you did lineart or sketch / if its shaded or not / if its headshot , bust or full body etc!
