“Oh you just haven’t met the right person yet”
Fuckin I don’t know. Maybe. But like shove off actually cause even if you’re right I still CURRENTLY feel the way I do, and living in the present is important or some shit. Like there’s always a chance you could realize your title for yourself or your identity isn’t exactly accurate, but you’re still living that way until then? Like idk

Doesn't eating meat contribute to habitat loss in South American and causes deforestation? I read deforestation happens there due to beef demand.
if you live in North America most of your beef is coming from North America. If you live in Eurasia most of your beef comes from Eurasia. If you’re in Africa most of your beef comes from Africa.
If you’re South American and want to boycott beef specifically, that’s fine, but an American eating steak and burgers isn’t impacting the rainforest.
It’s also bold to assume it’s being destroyed simply because people like beef and not as a direct attack on those indigenous to the Amazon. Even if everyone in South America stopped eating beef in protest, I’m pretty sure the deforestation would continue with some new excuse as to what the land could be used for.

Gah, might delete (I’m a bit embarrassed that this bothers me to the degree that it does in the first place cause it’s so inconsequential), nevertheless I guess I feel the need to vent about this so
I wish people would stop being so unnecessarily rude and hateful about gothcleats? Like, in general I’ve found this fandom to be pretty decent about avoiding senseless ship hate but for some reason this ship just gets held up to a standard that none of the other ones seem to and I guess it irks me a bit. Obviously if a ship isn’t your cup of tea for one reason or another that’s cool, and I completely get like interpreting a character a certain way that conflicts with a ship… I guess what I don’t get is why with this ship in particular people feel the need to rain on other people’s parade so much??
I’ve noticed that there are a lot of anti-gothcleats posts that are like “Well this [canon interaction] doesn’t strike me as romantic” and use that as a basis for invalidating the ship, but like… When has that ever been a requirement for shipping characters??? Like, idk, I think swiftli is cute, pretty fair to say that I ship it, but I’d be fucking lying to you if I said that a single one of Linc and Taylor’s interactions in canon has ever struck me as romantic… And so what? But that’s what I mean by like people hold gothcleats to a weird standard that they don’t hold other ships to. Obviously people are gonna latch on to whatever interactions they can get between two characters that they ship and roll with it, of course in practice for almost any ship very few if any of those will actually have romantic undertones… That’s normal? And you can not like a ship without going out of your way to rip those moments away from the people who do like it?
I feel like to some extent, subconsciously or otherwise, the hate this ship gets probably stems from some fear of it becoming canon. Maybe that’s wrong but that’s the impression I get. And to that I say… It’s literally not going to. No but seriously of course at the risk of being dead wrong like, it’s really not. Will ships it, I’m convinced, but Matt has shown no interest in canonizing any kind of romantic relationship between PCs, and that ultimately matters much more at the end of the day. So… Relax I guess is what I’m saying???
Blugh, might delete like I said, I hope this doesn’t feel targeted cause it’s really not meant to be, but idk I guess I’ve just been feeling a bit bummed out about this. I don’t really like having this kind of ship discourse so I tend to just keep my mouth shut with this kinda thing but… Lost the battle today I suppose, gotta vent about it. Aaand send post.

trying to practice restraint by not speaking about it but taeyong’s situation specifically has gotten so out of hand seeing the vilest shit being alleged between him and his sister and the swarm of death threats sent directly to him and his family after a random instagram story from half a year ago of a now confirmed censored single volume of a popular anime. extrapolating from a photo he took of some fucking shoes he was gifted saying hes read and promoted eleven volumes of uncensored whatever without fact checking anything/going off hearsay is so insane? and trying to lump all 4/5 idols in the same way without any nuance or even care for victims of these abuses is just irresponsible. i’m not here to justify or speak on the contents of the original anime itself because i haven’t read it but the way misinformation and crazy uncritical mob behavior functions on stan twitter/tumblr without any critical thinking is disgusting and also makes the content of what’s being criticized completely frivolous. it’s disgusting!

“4. Fushiguro Megumi and the World’s Most Inconvenient Custody Battle: pre JJK0”
you see i love this. because — on one hand, megumi would be totally willing to throw hands with geto bc of his monkey issues. like megumi, who sister is one of those monkeys geto is trying to kill, would ofc hate geto BUT geto would ofc be interested in megumi bc of his technique. he would also (probably idk many toji traumatized these gay teens.) find it so funny to try & co parent the kid with gojo, who has no idea he’s co parenting rn.
in a happier world where toji learned to chill tf out or when yaga look at this depressed little man & signed that bitch up for therapy: gojo, shoko, & geto would absolutely adopt the fushiguro siblings. but ofc gege is a coward so he settled for satosugu adopting kids to cope after the kfc divorce when they could’ve raised those kids TOGETHERRR.
Geto’s entire reason for pressuring Megumi into the binding vow (he has to stay with his cult for a specific period of time with a lot of qualifiers) was very much because of his technique. He hadn’t realized Yuuta as a plan yet and the ten shadows was supposed to be the six eyes equal, so he thought he could give this emo middle schooler self-actualization and offer him a world that isn’t “be wizard indentured servant” and Megumi would unlock his full potential and be a heavy hitter for his cult army.
Except he put in all the work and got to the end of it and Megumi was like “oh. Yeah. I was only playing along because the binding vow literally requires me to. Y’all are still bonkers tho. You literally want to murder my sister. Thanks for the power ups, but uh. Gonna head out now.” And just. Leaves.
Like in Geto and gojos minds this was the custody battle of the century but the SECOND it comes to head Megumi is like “uuhhhh you’re mean to my sister” and fucks right off. Never a competition. Just total knockout. Tsumiki wins.

Okay but why are people so aggressive in the notes on polls like ?? I’m sorry people aren’t agreeing with you that does not call for an attack on their character or you saying they’re stupid or clearly lack insight
Having different interpretations of a piece of media can actually generate really cool discussions and even if you don’t agree with a certain view that doesn’t mean the person holding it should be attacked

getting real tired of people who are shitting on “found family” more generally as a narrative concept and specifically named familial dynamics in fan interpretation of characters in particular because it all seems to be getting painted with a really wide and really homogenous brush. “we need to take found family away from people because they think it all has to be In Nuclear Family Terms and do you know friendship exists and you don’t have to call these characters siblings to legitimize their relationship while making it clear you Don’t Ship Them Ew Gross and THEN you sneer at people who Do ship them” cool cool that is a lot of really intense characterization and assigning of motive to other people en bloc!
like sure there’s some meaningful critique to be found in a broad trend to label every single relationship directly and specifically with terms that have very specific contexts and roles but im waiting to be told when anyone IS by the standards of people making and reblogging these very sweepingly generalized posts allowed to call a relationship parental or whatever. is that Ever allowed. who is handing out the permits. sometimes a specific term for a relationship isn’t actually about wanting an excuse to sneer about your ship (and frankly there’s a lot of projection going on there imo from people who are actively sneering about other people’s interpretation of a relationship!) and it’s because there are very specific contexts and details about a dynamic that makes exploring it from the lens of siblings or whatever very rich and compelling and interesting because words mean things and assuming everyone is just being reductive and demanding conformity to a nuclear family is, ironically, really reductive.
so like. cool it. stop being really fucking mean about people having an interpretation of a dynamic you personally don’t like or makes you feel a little weird or uncomfy because you ship them.

hot take but i think that if we want thomas to put out content more frequently by making shorter things that require less effort then we also have to do our part.
thomas has a lot of pressure because he probably feels that he must keep this reputation of a perfect guy who never fails to make children smile and teach people of all ages important lessons on mental health etc. in order for him to be comfortable putting out simpler content we have to understand that he will make mistakes while doing it. because if he has to ensure every video is perfect and has months of dedicated research to back it up, then that causes videos to take so long or never get made.
if thomas decides to try putting out content like that sleep documentary more often then we have to be prepared to forgive him for mistakes instead of scaring him off by scrutinizing every single word he says.
i know thomas is an adult with a decade of experience on social media and i’ve said before that most criticism on this site is probably pretty inconsequential since it’s properly tagged and easy to avoid. but i want to just talk about this because probably people talk about criticism points from tumblr also on twitter where it will unpredictably show up on thomas’s timeline, or on youtube comments.
and i’m also not talking about big stuff and also the difference between what is a “small” and a “big” mistake and what each person is prepared to forgive is very subjective* but. but i just think we need to be aware of this. if thomas uses a word that’s a bit insensitive, makes a joke that’s out of touch, references something problematic, relies on a stereotype to portray a character, stuff like that then. we can try to bring it up so he is aware of the mistake but in moderation (making an attempt to see if there’s not already a hundred comments about it already, for example) and with kindness and just… approach the issue with good faith.
because if he puts out a short sanders sides inconsequential episode and uses a word he shouldn’t have and a bunch of people interpret that as him not caring about an entire demographic or him having terrible bigoted beliefs or him not caring about the show at all or stuff like that then he will feel discouraged and then we all lose. he must be held accountable for his actions but there are ways to do it that don’t involve interpreting an unfortunate phrasing or joke as him having the worst intentions in the world.
we cant demand perfect content that is also frequent. and most of us understand by that that we don’t need big big productions that address big big issues, but also we have to understand that we shouldn’t demand perfection in thomas’s awareness on social justice issues or in his keeping track of plot details or in his vocabulary or his use of language either. he’s a youtube comedian, after all. not a politician or somebody working at marvel or netflix or whatever.
i don’t know what’s right or wrong and i don’t know what exactly constitutes the set of “small” mistakes that we should be prepared to forgive but i think that if we all take a minute to think twice before judging him then it’ll be better and maybe he can feel more calm about creating content. which would be awesome because i love him and i want him to enjoy the process of creating. so. these are my thoughts.

idk about anyone else but for me /personally/ assigning any of the wof dragon tribes a single equivalent human culture or accent feels kind of weird or off. Unless you’re like. Specifically from that culture and know what you’re interpreting
like sure the ‘nightwings are British because they’re voiced that way in the audiobooks’ is funny at first but I once saw a post break down the accents by tribe and assign sandwings a Nigerian accent. Which IMMEDIATELY makes the fact that they’re commonly rogues and thieves in the story not a fun cowboy thing but a vaguely racist thing suggesting that all Nigerian people scam and steal, which. Given the ‘Nigerian prince’ thing is already a stereotype, well…-
and it definitely isn’t JUST that, I’m not trying to call a single person out. But these kind of 1-1 correlations lead to results like this 9/10 times and it just feels strange. Just mix stuff together. Mash ideas from different places into one. Don’t make the dragons a 1-1 parallel to a specific human culture because then any story you tell that may connect to a stereotype of that culture will come off really, really bad
