rough art tips to learn and then break at your leisure.
the distance between your eyes is roughly one eye. the corners of your mouth dont extend past the middle of each eye. ears are roughly in the middle of the tip of the nose and the eyebrow. the eyes are in the very centre of the head. the neck is just a Little slimmer than the width of the head (varies with fat distribution, but fat tends to build up under the chin). hair is easier to draw when you plot out the hairline and then where it parts. leaving appropriate distance on the side of the face (cheekbone area and back to ear) contributes to making characters look more realistic/hot as hell. i dont know specific tips for that so use reference. an amazing reference/study site is lineofaction.com . if you think of the face in planes it makes it easier to construct (look up tutorials). if you draw a spiral like a tornado it can help you figure out awkward perspective for extended limbs (look up foreshortening coil technique). tangent lines are when two lines intersect and cause visual confusion (when it looks like a line that defines an arm is part of the line that defines a building, for example) and avoiding them makes your art way easier to comprehend. quick trick to good composition: choose a focal point (where you want your viewer to focus), detail that area the most, and make sure various elements of the piece are pointing to that focal point. you can use colours to contrast hue, saturation, and brightness and make certain elements of your drawing stand out. drawing in greyscale can help you figure out values. using black in a piece isn't illegal but you should know what you're doing when you do use it- it desaturates a piece and if used as a shading colour can desaturate and dull whatever youre shading too. if you use almost-black lineart and then add black to darken the very darkest areas it will do a lot to add some nice depth. the tip of your thumb ends just above the start of your index finger- your thumb also has two knuckles and all your other fingers have three. if you see an artist doing something you like (the way they draw noses or eyes or hair or anything else) you can try to copy that and see if you want to incorporate it in your style <- this is ENCOURAGED and how a lot of us learned and developed our styles. there are ways to add wrinkles to faces and bodies without making the character look a million years old, you just have to keep experimenting with it. The smile wrinkles around your muzzle dont connect to your mouth or to your nose; there should be a small space in between smile or nose and the wrinkle line. eyes when viewed in profile are like < aka a little triangle shape. think of the pupil like a disk and apply foreshortening to it (it looks like a line when seen from the side instead of a full round dot). subtle gradients can add a LOT to a piece. texture can also add a LOT. look up Tommy Arnold's work (his murderbot pieces are some of my FAVOURITE) and zoom in. find those random little circles he added and try to figure out why he added them there. light bounces. there's lots of way light bounces. sometimes it even spreads through the skin. i do not know these light tricks yet but i want you to know that they exist. draw a circle to indicate hand placement, draw a straight line between that circle and the shoulder, and then (normally at a right angle) draw a straight line on top of that line to find the placement of the elbow. elbows are normally placed Just above the hip when standing and your arm is at rest. there are no bad colour combos if you're brave enough about it, just fuck with the saturation and brightness until it works. keep playing. try new things. add your own tips to this post if you want or even expand on some ive mentioned here. good luck go ham etc

Any of the Archive Gang's fur babies. I don't care which, but there is always space in the universe for floof.
[ID: Three digital drawings of Poundcake on a muted teal background. Poundcake is a brown pit bull with a white tummy, white front paws, and white hind legs, and the tip of her tail is white. Her eyes are dark brown and her ears are floppy. The first drawing is a bust of her smiling with her tongue out. The second drawing is of her sitting down and wagging her tail, smiling upwards with a heart-shaped sparkle in her eye. The drawing is heavily foreshortened, making her nose look very large. The third drawing is more sketchy, and shows her as a puppy, asleep with her snout in a purple sneaker. An arrow points to her and says "missed him" and an arrow points to the sneaker and says "Tim's shoe". Her face is wrinkled up around where it rests on the edge of the shoe's opening. She is not much larger than the shoe. end ID]

Sorry I won't shut up but another idea that I had for Wizard101, and it's more of a fun little cutesy thing rather than an actual important lore expansion thing or a useful new feature thing, is that I just REAAALLY wish that the different magic schools had more interesting and unique traits that corresponded with The Wizard's own school
Like, instead of just "different schools have different spells", wouldn't it be super fucking awesome if your wizard had little quirks and different abilities depending on what school you were in? Like in my personal headcanon, your wizard's primary school typically is the school that your own soul resonates with the most (explaining power pips and how they're more effective and powerful with your own school magic vs. your secondary magic), and your secondary magic is the school that the wizard chooses for themselves if they want to study more than just the magic track they naturally fit into.
Like isn't that interesting???? Remember before you even get to play the game, there's that book that decides which school you get into and the different traits each magic school had??? Remember how Diviners are naturally just excel at building and inventing shit? You remember that????? I sure as shit don't remember what the hell the other schools do!!!!
I wish the game just promoted that more. Even if it doesn't really affect the plot or how characters interact with you, it would be really cool if it was acknowledged more than once how each school is special in its own unique way, y'know other than the generic "diviners fizzle too much" or "pyromancers do damage over time" like that shit is so boring. Give me more interesting things to experience with my wizard. I want Life wizards to have fucking sprouts growing out of their thumbs or smth idc. Fuck it, let's have Balance wizards be extremely flexible and have a good sense of direction or some weird shit like that. Why not have Myth wizards being the only people that can make furniture talk to you. Like I literally don't care how weird it is, I'm so tired of the spell casting noises being the only cool and interesting factor that makes each school different in an imaginative way

Sorry for uh… bloating the oil fire tag with shit for a fan fic I only will PROBABLY start EVENTUALLY. But hey, I’m an indecisive fuck.
So, my idea for the fic is that Sanae is going through the gyms, and Tsukasa is just tagging along as emotional support. Given that the winning region as of now is Johto (and Johto is just the region I’m heavily leaning towards in general), I want to decide a rival to add more consistent conflict. So…
Before I explain the choices, I want to call out why Reimu is absent. It’s mostly because I want a Fire starter from ONE of the region choices (gen 1-4) to fit on their team. Problem being that I don’t think any of them fit on Reimu’s. Okay, explanations:
Silver is just a lazy-ish option, since a fire starter is easy to throw on one of their teams.
Marisa is in a Reimu adjacent role, but I think feels more fitting as a rival trainer. Marisa feels like a Charizard or Typhlosion kinda gal.
Mokou is here for just… Raw fire. She’s THE fire trainer choice lol. May end a bit too mono-typed tho. She’s strikes me as a Typhlosion or Blaziken type.
Biten is funny since it’s a character Sanae has shown synergy with, also easy Infernape addition. Easily the most friendly of the rival options.
