Curious about the Hellman Fic 👀

The Hellman fic is part of Rooney's AU where they have the Relic in their head. The game requires you to find Anders Hellman, the bioengineer who helped steer the Relic project and might be able to provide more information about how to get it out of your head.

This fic starts after the mission where Rooney is interrogating Hellman alone. Hellman is scared, afraid that Rooney might be there on Yorinobu's behalf to do his bidding. Rooney convinces him that they are not there on anyone's behalf except their own, and they just want information from Hellman, who tells them what he can. After they interrogate Hellman, Rooney hides him with a few friends from their days in the militia, opting to not give him to Takemura or Yorinobu. (With Yorinobu, it's more of a 'I need to know what you're planning to do with him' before handing him over.) Despite Hellman being responsible for the Relic, Rooney doesn't hate him and doesn't wish to see him harmed. They're also a little bothered by the fact that everyone assumes that Rooney would just do whatever Yorinobu says, no matter how much it would go against their own moral code.

“Hello Anders, I apologize for knocking you out, but it was necessary that you and I talk,” Rooney coldly states, watching the bioengineer carefully as he awakes. Hellman jolts up in his seat, eyes wide as he realizes who is in front of him. Johnny glitches into the corner of their vision, surveying Hellman. “Damn Shepard,” Johnny gloats, watching Hellman shake, “You really fucking scare this guy. We should go intimidate Corpos more often.” Rooney ignores Johnny as Hellman finally speaks. “You must be Commander Rooney Shepard. I heard about Arasaka’s project involving you, Commander.” “I’m a civilian now,” They clarify, “You can refer to me as Shepard. But we’re not here to talk about me. We’re here to talk about your work with the Relic Project.” Hellman shrinks in his seat. “Has Yorinobu Arasaka sent you?” Rooney tilts their head, feigning ignorance. “There was gossip that you were close with each other, very close.” Rooney remembers the rumors, many of them insulting. “I’m not here on Yorinobu’s behalf; I’m here of my own volition.”
