Okay, hear me out

-modern day au (rydell still sucks tho)

-junior year

-jane and olivia are academic rivals

-jane is student council president, honor roll, in every extracurricular, very little miss perfect/alyssa greene coded

-olivia isn’t popular but well known, ranked in the top 10, in a few extracurriculars, junior class rep

-jane has a lot of pressure from home to be perfect so she overworks herself

-still brainy janey, doesn’t have many friends, is kinda friends with hazel, still gets harassed by the socs

-olivia makes good grades because she hopes her parents would stop favoring richie and pay attention to her

-olivia is friends with the t-birds, nancy, cynthia, and lydia

-cynthia and lydia are dating

-rivals because jane knocked olivia out of the top three for class rank when she showed up at rydell after winter break sophomore year

-jane tried to be nice but gave up when olivia wouldn’t stop being passive aggressive and rude

-jane is pansexual and hasn’t come out yet/still very closeted (closet is made of glass tho)

-uses her studies and responsibility to dodge having to date

-olivia is a lesbian and very out and proud (gil and richie are her emotional support himbos)

-jane has a crush on olivia

-olivia is starting to see jane as something more than a rival

-they banter a lot

-mostly because jane is scared of the crush she has on olivia and olivia likes messing with her

-jane starts hanging out more with susan

-susan is a very closeted lesbian (a lot of internalized homophobia)

-olivia gets worried (and jealous) of how close those two are getting

-susan and olivia had a summer fling

-jane starts falling behind in her studies and responsibilities because of her fling with susan

-olivia confronts her and they have a full blown argument that ends with them kissing

-they don’t talk for a few days after that

-susan, getting scared of people finding out about them, outs jane to the entire school and humiliates her

-jane, now alone and having to deal with everything she’s worked so hard for destroyed all around her, breaks down

-olivia finds her and comforts her

-feelings get confessed

-they become gfs

-olivia helps jane get herself back in order

-happily ever after

-bam! mic drop.
