legal names are such a frustration. tell me why my bank will only show my preferred name to the other person if i'm the one getting paid, but if i'm paying THEM it'll show them my legal name. this is a nightmare

Awase - he prefers simple dates like walking around in a park or going to an arcade maybe but hes pretty chill with anything

Sen - his ideal date is the both of you in the middle of nowhere having a silly little photo shoot. Bonus points if you bring multiple outfits!

Kamakiri - bro really cares about presentation. He will wake you up in the middle of the night, take you to the middle of nowhere just so you can have a picnic under the stars <3

Kuroiro - what do you mean playing dungeons and dragons for 7 hours straight doesn't count as a date? He prefers just staying home and watching a movie and cuddling for dates

Kendo - she loves going to any type of festival for dates. Amusement parks, fairs, random renaissance festival that she didnt know existed til 5 minutes ago, things like that

Kodai - any kind of date where she gets to listen to you tell stories about random things. She doesn't care whats going on around her she just wants to hear you talk

Komori - going to random wooded areas just to walk around and look at mushrooms and moss and stuff.

Shiozaki - ya know those nature reserves or plant parks that have tons of different plants and flowers that you can just walk around and look at? Thats where she wants to be.

Shishida - all he wants in life is to hold your hand and take a nice walk through the park <3

Shoda - his ideal date is just hanging out with you at a small cafe that no one really knows about while you both share some silly life stories <3

Pony - she wants to dress nice and go eat at a restaurant honestly. It doesnt matter where yall eat as long as she gets to dress up and feel pretty! Let her wear her prom dress to taco bell!

Tsubaraba - ideal date is honestly staying up all night together and just building pillow forts and playing videogames

Tetsutetsu - he wants to find something you both like to do and just hang out with you for the day <3

Tokage - does her ranting to you about dinosaurs for an hour and a half count as a date? Because thats her ideal <3

Manga - bros a hopeless romantic ngl. He wants a candle lit dinner in a dimly lit room while you both eat pasta

Honenuki - he prefers things more on the simple side. He just wants to sit in a garden with you and talk over tea <3

Bondo - anything calm and casual is what he prefers. From simply eating out at a hole in the wall type cafe or even staying home and watching a movie. Ykyk

Monoma - hes taking you to some lavish five star restaurant where the food is made by Gordon Ramsay himself (idk if I spelt his name right lol) he will refuse to let you pay btw. (Even if you wanted to)

Reiko - imagine you and her just laying on a pile of pillows inside of a pillow fort and just talking over tea <3 she likes small hole in the wall cafes as well

Rin - ideally he goes out and spends all day doing something fun (like bowling or hanging at an arcade or stuff like that) then he goes home with you and the two of you just snuggle while wrapped in a warm blanket <3

Rin could beat my ass if he so wanted but that wont stop me from calling him a cutie patootie

Hello! I really enjoy your meta and analysis for jjk. So I have a question. I've heard many times that Jujutsu Kaisen's title's translation in english is Sorcery Fight. But today I read someone say that this translation isn't really correct since the title has a lot of meaning and Sorcery Fight is insufficient. I don't know anyone aside from you who knows Japanese so I'm wondering if you could tell what the title "Jujutsu Kaisen" actually means? I'm very curious to know about that, I just find Gege's use of language very fascinating and exciting. On that note, what Gege does, is it common in mangas? Or is it actually rare?

@cursedvibes's Japanese is much fresher than mine, I haven't used mine much in over a decade. So he might have better insights.

呪術 - jujutsu - means magic or sorcery and it's spelt normally. The first character can mean curse but it's also a charm. The second one often means "art" or "technique", as in the way that you do something, like in 芸術 geijutsu the capital "A" "Art", or 技術 gijutsu "engineering". But it also holds the meaning of "magic" which is makes jujutsu an example of forming a word from 2 characters with very similar meanings that reinforce each other.

廻戦 - kaisen - is spelt with an older version of the "kai" character. This is what it'd look like in modern slightly simplified kanji: 回戦. It could've been done for aesthetic reasons. It might be some Buddhist reference but I took general Japanese religion classes or about Buddhism in relation to art, so my knowledge was never too deep and that was like 15 years ago. And when I wrote papers on religion one was about Aum Shinrikyo in relation to New Religions, Politics and of course the metro terrorist attack, or about the religion of the Ryuukyuu Archipelago. And JJK strongly draws from Buddhism.

"Sen" means war or battle, but 回戦 is used for fights that are fought in rounds. So you could just interpret it as being this ongoing fight between the sorcerers and curses, where each clash is a round. 回 this character has meanings connected to cycles, instances, rotating, revolving and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if it was connected to some Buddhist concepts. So if we don't use the combined meaning and try to read more into the individual characters you could maybe get to something like a "cycle of war".

But "sorcery fight" isn't an incorrect translation. Especially that one that at least tries to indicate this idea of rounds would be kinda ugly in English. Something like "sorcery match", "sorcery fight next round" sounds even more bland than "sorcery fight" and also would suggest that it's some kind of sport. I mean Mei Mei's turned it into one but is the title only about most recent chapters? While "sorcery cyclical war" or some variation of that would have more gravitas but would also be leaning too heavily on the translator's interpretation of what potential subtext the author had in mind with this title, unless Gege's delved into that in some interview, though I can't recall anything like that.

As to the commonality of Gege's linguistic layering. I'm not some manga or Japanese literature expert but I suspect it's not rare. I'm not sure if it's common per se, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was. It's a pretty simple yet aesthetically pleasing way to add additional layer of meaning and interpretation to the text.

Yojana magazine published this article page 33 both growth and development refer to changes over a period of time. the difference is that growth is quantitative and value neutral. it may have a positive or a negative sign. this means that the change may be either positive (showing an increase) or negative (indicating a decrease). development means a qualitative change which is always value positive. this means that development cannot take place unless there is an increment or addition to the existing conditions. development occurs when positive growth takes place. yet positive growth does not always lead to development. development occurs when there is a positive change in quality. for example if the population of a city grows from one lakh to two lakhs over a period of time we say the city has grown. however if a facilities like housing provision of basic services and other characteristics remain the same then this growth has not been accompanied by development. can you think of a few more examples to differentiate between growth and development economic growth. this meant that the bigger the economy of the country the more developed it was considered even though this growth did not really mean much change in the lives of most people. the idea that the quality of life people enjoy in a country the opportunities they have and freedoms they enjoy are important aspects of development is not new. these ideas were clearly spelt out for the first time in the late eighties and early nineties. the works of two south asian economists mahbub-ul-haq and amartya sen are important in this regard buy yojana magazine online.

Lisa Murkowski advances in Alaska's new ranked-choice Senate Primary Election

In her state's new ranked-choice voting system, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) easily won the all-party primary on Tuesday. She will now face three opponents in the general election, including one supported by former President Donald Trump. Given that Lisa Murkowski is an incumbent senator seeking a fourth term, it is hardly surprising that she has advanced.

The Alaskan election process itself is more intriguing since, under the current system, primaries no longer pit Republicans against Republicans and Democrats against Democrats. Instead, all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, compete against one another, and the four who receive the most votes advance to the general election in November. Ranked-choice voting will be used in that election as well. Lisa Murkowski: On Tuesday's ballot, there were 19 candidates, including Pat Chesbro, the Democratic front-runner, and Kelly Tshibaka, the greatest GOP challenger to Murkowski. Trump, who has vowed to defeat Murkowski, has been campaigning for Tshibaka, a far-right socially conservative candidate who once wrote in support of a "ex-gay" organisation and warned of the dangers of "addictive" witchcraft. Tshibaka was one of seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump for inciting the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. Tshibaka, who formerly oversaw the state's Department of Administration, received support from the leaders of the Alaskan Republican Party. A few months prior to their endorsement, they voted 53–17 to denounce Murkowski for supporting Trump's impeachment.

Primary Election But Lisa Murkowski has already demonstrated that she is not afraid to stand up to party conservatives. She began a write-in campaign in 2010 after shockingly losing her primary to a tea party candidate, using now-famous ads that meticulously spelt out her name. She accomplished an amazing feat by winning with no help from her party. Beyond that, the state's new election system, which was approved by voters in 2020, unquestionably advantages the long-serving Republican senator. To advance in the primary, Lisa Murkowski only needed to finish among the top four vote-getters. Murkowski, who is unquestionably the most moderate Republican in the current Senate, is likely to draw support from Republicans, independents, and Democrats when they rank their top candidates in the general election. The general election in Alaska will virtually operate as an instant runoff. Only if a voter's first and later picks come in last and don't advance to the next round are their second, third, and fourth choices taken into consideration. When one candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the election is declared over. Additionally, Lisa Murkowski gains by being better known and having more resources than Tshibaka. According to Federal Election Commission filings, the Republican senator had $5.3 million in cash on hand as of July 27th, while Tshibaka had only $808,000. More than five times as much money was spent on the campaign. This does not imply that Murkowski will win this in November. After his falling out with Fritz, Voltaire used the name "Luc" to refer to him in letters. This was to avoid the possibility of anyone intercepting the mail and recognizing it to be about Frederick. He used "Luc" as it was also the name of his temperamental pet monkey, and the word "cul" (ass) spelt backwards. It's used in over 100 of his letters to friends, but I selected some of my favorites which really show how strongly V could hold a grudge and that he never really forgave Fritz for Frankfurt... (The odd spelling is all V's. 1700s inconsistent spellings and all that)

Wriju & his name

@a-confusedmess I remember you asking about behind the scenes information <3

Canonically, his name is spelt out as Riju (he is also a Basu in Lalbazar canon and Anirban Sen in Pandob Goyenda canon, both of which we will ignore), but I have always imagined this name with a W, and since this is NOT Riju Basu from Lalbazar or Anirban Sen from Pandob Goyenda, but a mish-mash of my creation, I decided to go with the name I prefer. Here his surname is Chatterjee, because he is also based on - one of many - my childhood OC, Arko Chatterjee, only Wriju fits better. Another thing that has also influenced my decision, is my fascination with the alphabet W, or more specifically, how it is written.

In Wriju, I wanted to showcase this fighting spirit (that, is what I feel W embodies), this up and down of life, being knocked down and riding the waves, over and over and over, the strength in his character, how he is indomitable, how he never gives up, and thus, he was named Wriju.

Poster number 6 is Mad Father a second game created by Sen (Miscreant’s Room) Let it be known….. I had to redo this right before uploading as I realized I spelt Miscreant wrong…. And hadn’t saved a copy with the text still adjustable before closing…. Spelling has never been my forte, and it continues to plague me…. This one references a Kill Bill vol. 1 poster.

A good horror game with an awesome story. There are two versions of it, a free version and an updated one for about $5 on Steam. The update adds a bit more, though the one thing I will say that is not a great change is the spoken lines by the Doctor. It went from kinda creepy to…. “really? That’s what you’re gonna say?” Outside of that it is still a really good game.

Why we reject Bayelsa, Kogi results - PDP senators

In reaction to the outcome of the governorship election results of Kogi and Bayelsa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the Senate said the results are not the true reflection of what happened on the field. We are very disturbed by the elections that were held last weekend in Bayelsa and Kogi. “We totally reject the pronouncements after the elections by INEC and we are worried about the trend of what happened during the election. “We know that the results that were announced were not a true reflection of what happened in the field. “We are much more concerned about the fact that it seems that all the gains made by the PDP in all the period of democracy starting in 1999 seem to have been eroded from the elections starting in Osun, Edo and culminating into last weekend. “We are further pained by the fact that the PDP woman leader, Salome Abuh, after declaration of result, hoodlums still chased her to her house and burnt her to dead in the clear view of security agents.” The caucus called on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to immediately fish out the killers of Salome. “We hear that the police are launching an investigation but this is something we don’t want to be put under the carpet because it involves life,” Abaribe said. Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Senate, Sen. Godiya Akwashiki, in his reaction to the outcome of the Bayelsa and Kogi gubernatorial elections said: “I don’t think it will be right for the Senate to say anything about the election. “Nigeria is not a lawless country and we must obey it. The Electoral Act has spelt out everything that there should be primaries between aspirants in political parties so a candidate will emerge. “After the primaries, INEC will set aside a day for general election. Dear future, self whether or not I am proud of you, that is up to you. though don't blame me for anything. Because I do not regret any of my decisions . I have not wasted a single second. You are where you are meant to be, that is what I believe.

at this age, at 16, what I really hope for you is that you have found love. that you have found a real reason, real happiness. That is all you need for success to me really. Some happiness. I wonder what you’re doing now. Researching? Writing? At this age, you wanted to pursue chemistry. You wanted to be even better than mrs Leow and take the title of chem-sen (is that how it’s spelt??)

Is your heart happy though? At this age you loved someone that could not return it. Do you remember her? You should. You loved her very very much. I'm not sure if you still do. Heck you might be with her now. Or, you found someone who loves you so much more. If it's neither though, she'll find you soon :) You should be in London too btw. If you're not, it's time to start the gears. Get the cash, fly. She could be waiting for you there too yknow. You should do something for yourself for once. I know I have not .

I’ll be 21 this year. It’s been 5 years. I’m not sure how much I’ve really changed but I know that I have. Though when I think about it, it doesnt really seem all that different. I’m still a kid trying to find myself. And that’s okay.

I’ve done so much in these 5 years. Some stupid crazy stuff. But some meaningful stuff too. You don’t do chemistry anymore. But you found passion in English Literature. And you’re good at it. Even though sometimes you lack the confidence in class. You’re teaching too. Just like her. And your students love you. You’re also going to Glasgow next year. So I guess you really are taking steps towards that London dream. But.. Ive learnt recently that sometimes dreams are just dreams that change. And they are allowed to change. They are allowed to be redefined. I sound so much wiser but really.. your problems are just ... different and we have our whole life to figure that one out.

I’m not very sure if I’m happy. I’ve had happy memories, for sure. But I’ve also learnt that happiness isnt a state of permanence. You’ve been really lucky. You got to travel alone and meet some wonderful wonderful people. And sometimes thinking about all these opportunities is enough.

And no, I’ve not settled down in the love department..but for me, that isnt what i’m here for anymore. The girl you talked about. She’s married now. She’s happy and I am happy for her. You took it well enough. Because for me, love is different now. It can be so flimsy and Im not sure if I believe in it. But I know a part of me is hoping.

Anyhow, I’ve done a hell lot for myself. And I’m not stopping anytime soon. So to my future self: I hope you are ready.

Nnamdi Kanu now declared a Fugitive

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu became legally a fugitive today as he was conspicuously absent in court as his trial resumed in Abuja. Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who earlier gave the secessionist campaigner bail has fixed Nov.20 for his sureties to produce him. One of the sureties, is Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe. Others are Immanuel Madu and Torchokwu Uchendu. Nyako gave the order on Tuesday when Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to Kanu , told the court he could not explain the whereabouts of his client. NAN reports that Kanu, whose bail was perfected by the voluntary endorsement of the three sureties failed to appear in court to stand his trial. Nyako said the sureties’ failure to produce Kanu would compel the court to invoke the forfeiture of their N100 million bail bond each. “The trial of Kanu and his co-defendants was fixed for Oct.17, but reports from both the prosecuting and defendant’s counsel show that Kanu is absent. “The sureties that helped to perfect his bail conditions are solely accountable for his presence for trial. These sureties are therefore, given time to produce him for trial. “In the event that they are unable to produce him, the court shall go on to invoke the remaining options left to it,’’ she said. Earlier, Mr Mohammed Labaran, the prosecuting counsel had moved an application praying the court to grant a bench warrant for Kanu’s arrest. He said the defendant had flouted all the bail conditions spelt out for him by the court. The counsel to Kanu, Ejiofor objected to such application, adding that he had filed a suit against the Chief of Army Staff on the whereabouts of Kanu. Ejiofor had claimed that the military’s invasion of his client’s home on July 11 led to his disappearance, adding that the military was in the best position to disclose the whereabouts of Kanu. Similarly, Mr Ogechi Ogbonna, counsel to Abaribe moved a motion seeking court’s approval for the withdrawal of his client’s consent as Kanu’s surety. Ogbonna said his client was not in a position to tell the whereabouts of the defendant at the moment. He further said Abaribe was no longer interested in offering his consent to serve as Kanu’s surety in view of recent happenings. The judge, therefore, gave Ogbonna options ranging from automatic forfeiture of his client’s N100 million bail bond, to having time within which to search for Kanu. Ogbonna, having received the hint of the court, selected the latter option. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi are standing trial along with Kanu on a five-count charge of conspiracy to commit treasonable felony and publication of defamatory materials.
