It will help you understand to invest your purchases on the Xbox console if you want to play Obsidian and Interplay game content. Interplay goes by the new name inXile Entertainment named after their Black Isle Entertainment studio before it went bankrupt. Besides wasteland they made Torment Tides of Numenera a sequel to Planescape Torment but it takes place in a different universe. It is notably harder than Planescape Torment since you are more limited to leveling up your character and have to rely on your items and limited number of three party members supporting you. You also cannot points you cannot return to the previous level. You have to search up lore on Numenera tabletop game to find out more about this futuristic sci fi world. It connects to Planescape Torment because of that one character.

If you see a writer by the name of Monte Cook he is part of the Black Isle Entertainment or was formerly part of it. He is suffering problems from his wife which is why he hasn't made much content in a while.
Wow I didn't know monte cook is suffering. Also lucky me I own an xbox I only have skyrim and Fallout 4 plus there are other obsidian games on both consoles so why not just buy them? By the way I plan on getting the second DLC installment for my outerworld playthrough. I got gorgon bow I need murder.

Pentiment: a funny ad from inXile and a video about loving dogs
Pentiment: a funny ad from inXile and a video about loving dogs
Pentime is coming, and marketing is getting louder and more fun. for example inXile Entertainment posted one stain with real players who tell the game in their own way. In the Middle Ages, wounds were more deadly than previously thought, and apparently spurted large amounts of blood. Frankly, the ad is a great way to remind us that the game will launch on November 15, 2022, when it will also be…

My Analysis on Microsoft buying ZeniMax:
Ok, so this is gonna be absolutely long intensive post about Microsoft acquiring ZeniMax Media because I absolutely just stunned about what this could mean/implicate.  Let’s start with the acquisition itself:
Tumblr media
THIS IS THE THIRD LARGEST ACQUISTION THAT MICROSOFT HAS MADE! IT IS THE LARGEST AQUISITION FOR MICROSOFT IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY!  (Also, did not know that Microsoft owned LinkedIn and Github which is mindblowing to me because along with owning Skype and Mojang that is ridiculous in the amount of power they own in online services, apps, and just in general technology)
This acquisition is huge because it really shows how much Microsoft is trying to own the gaming industry.  Microsoft owns Xbox and is huge in PC gaming as well because the fact that most people use their operating system.  Them buying ZeniMax Media (the parent company of Bethesda) is a lot because they own a ton of gaming studios, not just Bethesda.  Here is a list of studios/other companies they own:
Tumblr media
Not only does Microsoft own Bethesda, they own a lot of other studios as well.  For example, in 2018, they went on a huge buying spree.  At E3, they announced that they had bought Playground Games (they do the Forza series), Ninja Theory (Hellblade), Undead Labs (State of Decay), and Compulsion Games (We Happy Few).  Later that year, they announced that they bought Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds) and inXile Entertainment (Wasteland series and The Bard’s Tale).
So why is Microsoft buying all these studios?
Xbox/Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass is the Netflix of gaming.  This is big money and has the same idea of what Netflix is doing.  You don’t have to buy games anymore because they are a part of Game Pass (you can still buy them at a discount with Game Pass membership), but its the same idea as Netflix where they will put up a game and have it up for months/years, but you don’t have to pay $60-70 for the game when maybe you don’t have that extra money per month based on your income.  But you can afford to pay $10 a month to access a bunch of games, but you don’t permanently own them.  I GUARANTEE THEY ARE MAKING BANK OFF OF XBOX GAME PASS! Just look at Netflix and other streaming services’ profits and you get the picture of what kind of money they earn from Game Pass.
What do they need to expand their library/profit?
More Game Studios.  They need these to be exclusive to Xbox so that they can put it on Game Pass.  It’s probably way easier to outright own a studio than trying to negotiate with a third-party studio to have their game appear on Xbox Game Pass.  It makes me wonder how much these studios make when having their game on Game Pass vs selling it.
I also think that it’s interesting that Microsoft seems to buying out companies catering to the younger generation.  Everyone heard recently that Microsoft was interested in buying Tik Tok.  Remember when they bought Skype and Mojang, services/games that were primarily used by the younger generation at the time.  It might just be that new technology attracts younger people because they are more readily to adopt it, and Microsoft also jumps at the opportunity to adopt new technology because it is big money.   But what if these are correlated? Since younger generations are more tech focused, they determine which tech industries boom; Microsoft is looking at them (the youth) to what companies it should buy out so that they can make big bank.  Hence why Microsoft is wedging itself into the gaming industry.

M&A Issue within Gaming
There’s genuine people that feel the concept of oligopoly and market consolidation doesn’t apply to the game industry but if we look at how few independant AAA companies exist these days it can be hard not to see pararells of other industries such as movies and comics
Sega has in it’s lifetime bought Relic Entertainment, Atlus and Two Point Studios.
Square Enix of course came about with the merger of Square Soft and Enix Corporation and since 2003 has bought Eidos Interactive (now Square Enix Europe) and Taito Corporation
Bandai and Namco merged in the early 00s and currently owns D3 Publisher
Koei and Tecmo merged in the early 00s and have since bought Gust.
Activision and Blizzard merged in the late 00s and since becoming Activision-Blizzard and now owns King the makers of Candy Crush.
Microsoft is absolute king here as even if we ignore Microsoft’s fetish for buying out any tech company that dares to exist. In the gaming sector under Xbox are now, Rare, Mojang, Double Fine, Compulsion Games, inXile, Obsidian Entertainment and soon to be followed by Zenimax Media (which includes Bethesda, Id Software, Tango Softworks and Arkane Studios to name a few)
With mass merging and acquiring of studios is it any wonder that ideas are so consolidated when really if you look at the landscape theres way fewer big players in the industry.
Your choices in the industry are becoming an indie studio or eventually be acquired by the big dogs. Companies reaching “AAA” status while remaining outside any of the top dogs and resisting merging is quite rare and I can only think of CD Projekt Red off the top of my head.
But ignorance of anti-trust laws and a routine of M&A has worked so well for most industries so i’m sure i’m worrying about nothing /s

The DeanBeat: How the rest of 2020 looks for the game industry
The main reason for this column today is to wish you a happy Fourth of July and thank you for reading GamesBeat and VentureBeat. So thanks, and go blow things up in a safe and sane way (maybe inside video games). I like this holiday because it marks the middle of the year, and in some ways it gives us hope that the next six months can be better.
So far, 2020 has been horrible. We have our wild politics, made so much worse by the pandemic. We had the tragic death of George Floyd, with Black Lives Matter protests following (and continuing).  The #BlackLivesMatter and #MeToo movements are having an impact on the game industry, which saw hundreds of sexual misconduct complaints detailing toxic behavior in the industry at all levels, from game development to influencers. Ubisoft announced an action plan to address misconduct yesterday, and the Evo fighting game tournament has canceled its 2020 online event as a result of its own abuse scandal. We can’t yet predict the full impact of allegations across the industry.
In terms of games, some stellar titles came out, such as The Last of Us Part II, Call of Duty: Warzone, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Half-Life: Alyx, and Doom Eternal. I’m playing Ghost of Tsushima, which debuts on July 17 on the PlayStation 4 as the first major game of the second half. Other big games coming include Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers on September 4 and CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 on November 19.
We’ll also see Amazon Studios launching New World, a massively multiplayer online game, on August 25. InXile’s Wasteland 3 is coming on August 28. Electronic Arts has teed up Star Wars: Squadrons for October 2.
VB Transform 2020 Online – July 15-17. Join leading AI executives: Register for the free livestream.
Big titles without specific launch dates include the next Call of Duty, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Empire of Sin, Dying Light 2, Watch Dogs Legion, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Tell Me Why, 12 Minutes, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, CrossfireX, and Microsoft’s long-awaited Halo Infinite.
Above: Halo Infinite is one of gaming’s most anticipated games.
Of course, we’ll also see the arrival of the PlayStation 5 from Sony and the Microsoft Xbox Series X. Lots of games will hit those consoles, but despite so much riding on them, we still don’t have launch dates for these machines.
That’s a lot to get excited about. I don’t anticipate too many surprise games during the rest of this year, but you never know, with console launches and unexpected hits like last year’s Untitled Goose Game.
The Xbox Summer Game Fest will kick off second-half announcements from July 21 to July 27, with a focus on indie games for the Xbox One. It may also surprise us with a new version of the Xbox Series X and an announcement of the rumored Lockhart machine in August. That’s a lot of entertainment coming, not to mention all sorts of mobile and VR games. I hope it’s enough to distract us all from our difficult reality and keep us satisfied with indoor activities. Games are more important than ever before when it comes to keeping people in their homes during the pandemic.
It will clearly be a busy slate in terms of major game releases. But I’m also hopeful that we’ll see action from companies looking to address issues related to Black Lives Matter and the latest round of #MeToo allegations. Ubisoft had a lot of reports of misconduct, and CEO Yves Guillemot has promised swift action.
Our presidential election is coming up in November, and for all our sakes, let’s hope it’s good news. As far as events go, I’m looking forward to online sessions at the Game Developers Conference, Gamescom, and Devcom. Those online events aren’t a substitute for meeting in person, but they’re the next best thing in our lockdown environment.
We’ll be putting on a new conference about gaming and the Metaverse, tentatively set for November 9 and November 10. I’ll talk more about that later, but for now the idea is to discuss the best way to accelerate to the Metaverse, the group of virtual worlds that are all interconnected, like in novels such as Snow Crash and Ready Player One. Amid a pandemic, we think accelerating development of the Metaverse is more important than ever.
As for seeing all of you in person, let’s hope things will be brighter in 2021. For now, Happy Fourth.

Wasteland 3 Preview: Prepare Yourself For The All-Mighty Kodiak
Tumblr media
It’s hard to ever feel completely safe in the post-apocalyptic wilds, but driving the mighty Kodiak through the snowy crumbled terrain of Wasteland 3 feels almost cozy. This massive durable vehicle in the newest sequel to the historic franchise is one of its most compelling new features, but a special preview of the game offers up some additional developments in the tactical gameplay and exploration, and it all feels like a pronounced upgrade from Wasteland 2.
It’s fairly well known by now, but inXile’s sequel was an early-stage Kickstarter success story, raising nearly $3 million and attracting gobs of attention for the original Wasteland, a formative CRPG from 1988 developed by Interplay, and whose influences can be felt in multiple games to follow (Interplay would later develop the original Fallout). With Wasteland 3, though, inXile (whose studio was recently acquired by Microsoft Studios) seeks to court gamers from all walks of life, not just the very particular niche beholden to the CRPG banner.
Related: Wasteland 3 E3 2019 Trailer Turns Up The Heat In A Frosty Apocalypse
Their growing library includes such hits as the Planescape: Torment spiritual sequel, Torment: Tides of Numenera, and this proven track record carried Wasteland 3 to its successful Fig campaign, out-performing their Kickstarter goal for the prior game
Tumblr media
The Wasteland 3 preview build offered us a mission for a Ranger Squad looking to bring balance to the wilds. The setting for the mission is Aspen, Colorado, but this time, players get a heavily armored vehicle to carry them to each new engagement. In a twist that is completely gob-smacking the first time, entering a hostile environment proves that the Kodiak isn’t just a mode of team transportation a la Final Fantasy’s classic airships, but a true-blue controllable combat unit which can crush enemies, fire at them from its mounted weapon, or provide immediate mid-fight cover.
It’s fascinating just to watch the Kodiak trundle into a battle, where it can pulverize otherwise viable cover to debris. Jeremy Kopman, lead level designer, needs to weigh and consider the increased potential offered to players with the Kodiak, beyond simply having a hulking war machine as a optional unit: "...with each [encounter], we want to ensure the player can use its overwhelming power in clever ways."
Tumblr media
In some cases that might mean including larger than usual sections of cover and other objects that it can smash through, opening up new paths for the on-foot PCs to take, or closing off a path to funnel enemies into a kill box. In others, the player might be able to use gas grenades or other area denial weapons to smoke out fortified enemies, then run them down once they’re in the open. Smushing all the enemies in one run can be fun at times but would get repetitive after a while.
While we didn’t encounter anything as imposing as that during our time with the game, we did get to meet a cult of lunatics called The Breathers, ruled over by Victor Buchanan, the son of the Patriach. They’re holed up in Aspen, and are basically a violent and unpredictable faction of hallucinogen-huffing freaks in diving masks. Each member of The Breathers has a continuous stream of gaseous drugs pumped into their suits, and they’re accompanied by vicious robots, including buzz-saw-wielding metal spiders (these automatons are probably fully sober).
Tumblr media
Combat in Wasteland 3 will probably look familiar to fans of the updated Shadowrun series or the recent tactical RPG Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, with the recognizable look of the AP-fueled movement in the former and the stealth potential from the latter. While you can go always go the guns-blazing route, enemy encampments with spread out snipers and guards can be whittled down one by one, an especially smart decision in areas where the Kodiak can’t travel and your team is outnumbered. Additionally, as is common to the Wasteland franchise, certain engagements can be circumvented or altered through the use of dialogue choices and such. In our playthrough, we were able to talk our way out of a boss battle, which required voluntarily taking hallucinogens and talking a psychotic rainbow-haired monster into accidentally blowing themselves up.
In another unique first for the series, Wasteland 3 will feature two-player co-op at launch, which is set to mix in with the turn-based gameplay in a way that can kind of be understood in single-player. Essentially, since entering combat only pulls in any enemy units within range, players can split up and take down an enemy fortress in pieces, locked into their own instanced battles. “Many scenarios already give an advantage to those who tactically spread their team out,” Kopman describes. “And, similarly, coordinating carefully with a co-op partner will give a distinct advantage such as flanking an enemy before combat begins. Similarly, if you leave guys behind (or your co-op partner is way off somewhere else) beginning combat with a split group could create a challenging situation. Communication is going to be key in either situation.”
Tumblr media
For those who may not arrive to the game well-versed in CRPGs or turn-based tactics, inXile wants to draw in these players, the ones who never got into X-Com, the recent Pillars of Eternity games, or even the classic Fallouts. Just in our brief time with this build, Wasteland 3 sports a slick and friendly UI with a lot of approachable information and details sensibly positioned up front. There’s also what looks to be an exciting amount of loot, all of which affects a character’s look, allowing you to create a wild-looking squad sporting heavy armor, laser rifles, hobo shotguns, and baggy pants, with many wearable items affecting character stats and movement. At the start of a match, we were disappointed to discover that the heavy protective gear we had just put on only allowed us to take two steps per turn.
Upgradeable skills in Wasteland 3 involve your typical lock-picking and computer hacking and such, and the Animal Whisperer skill happily makes a triumphant return from Wasteland 2. This time, however, tamed animals can even pile into the Kodiak alongside your crew, which means you can fill it out with a menagerie and become some sort of deranged traveling Dr. Dolittle, if it suits you.
Tumblr media
With a uniquely wintry post-apocalyptic setting, a fascinating armored vehicle, and the potential for some entertaining co-op tactical shenanigans, Wasteland 3 is one to watch out for.
