Alright y’all! The time has come! Now through Sunday, August 28th 11:59PM (Central Daylight Time) YOU have the power to guide my hand and decide which of my many, many, (many) kaishin WIPs will take priority and ascend to the top of my list!

This is part of a charity event run by @ficwritersforreproductiverights !

Well, I’m an accountant. So we’re gonna use money. Every dollar donated to any reputable charity anywhere in the world that is fighting to support and protect reproductive rights will be 1 vote. (More details below the cut.)

Vampire!Shinichi. Working title: Different Means. This fic would also feature magicalblood!Kaito (he’s basically vampire catnip in this scenario, let’s be real) and would be rated E for sexy times as well as for violence. (Whump? You better believe it.) The idea belongs to @kiwilart and their friend, but I got real obsessed with it and they said it would be okay if I wrote my take on it : ) This would be a little bit of a longer fic. Probably with chapters instead of a one-shot.

Gay drama! Working title: runner. Kaito’s deeply closeted and dealing with some internalized homophobia and it’s ruining his and Shinichi’s relationship. Can love conquer all? Well this one’s got a happy ending, so yeah, I guess it can lol It will be rated either E or M for sexy times – not sure yet. I’m guessing this will be a one-shot.

Porn! Working title: It Was Only Just a Dream. Starts out with Shinichi having a sexy dream and Kaito having a bit of voyeurism. Ends with actual sexy times~ Rated E. No plot. One-shot.

Other porn! Working title: Rival Fantasy. Involving blindfolded Shinichi, a bit of bondage, and a bit of roleplay as sort of pre-relationship thief and detective (instead of the practically married couple they already are in this fic). Rated E. No plot. One-shot.

Any one-shot fluffy get-together fic. I’ve got a fluffy get-together G-rated one-shot that I could probably crank out pretty quickly if it’s what the good people want :) Working title: In My Dreams from the song of the same title by Ruth B.

Detective Conan Movie Cut Scenes: The Private Eyes' Requiem. Has it been two and a half years since I posted one of these? Yes. But that doesn’t mean I’m not still working on it. But now you have the power to say, “No more waiting! Give us Kaito’s perspective on the hostages in a theme park and detectives wearing bombs movie!”

Look, DS, I just want you to focus on the the next installment of the Fall into Flying universe! I’ve been working on Blackout for probably three years now, and I’m still only halfway through the eighth chapter. The pandemic messed me up for a while, but if the people decree, I will get my butt back on track and focus in on this mighty beast of a story! This one comes with the bonus factor of tumblr teaser posts every time I complete a chapter! The first seven are already posted ;)

You are only voting for which of these WIPs I bump up to priority status. If your favorite doesn’t win, that does not mean I’ll never write it, but it could mean you’ll be waiting a much longer time to see it finished.

2. Kaito x Shinichi

I've read a lot of fics with background KaiShin, and now I'm in love with them. And don't get me wrong, I still want ShinRan to be endgame, but I would also not complain if we got KaiShin endgame instead (which I have zero faith will happen, but...)

3. Kaito x Hakuba

I'll admit I haven't kept up as much with Magic Kaito, plus it's been forever since we've even seen Hakuba in either franchise, so I can't form much of an opinion on this ship. Looking at Hakuba's character page though, I will say that the rivals/enemies-to-lovers aspect automatically piques my interest.

4. Scotch x Akai

Honestly, all of the Whiskey Trio are just so shippable with each other (just in case it wasn't obvious who my OT3 is lol).

But seriously, Scotch and Akai together would just be so amazing and tragic and I need more of it.

5. Shiho x Ayumi

I can definitely see Ayumi having a crush on Shiho/Haibara, but honestly, I couldn't really see Shiho returning her feelings. If anything, I feel like she would see Ayumi as a little sister more than anything especially since she's like 12-13 years younger than Shiho. She probably feels like she's helped raise Ayumi in a way.

6. Gin x Akai

Don't get me wrong, I definitely see why people would ship Gin x Akai, it's just...never really been something that appeals to me? Honestly, I don't really have a reason; I guess it's just one of those things.

It would make for some pretty funny crackfic content though.

7. Toichi x Yusaku

Toichi x Yusaku is essentially just the previous generation's Kaito x Shinichi, right? So they're automatically cool in my book.

(I really need to rewatch some of the older episodes again.)

8. Akako x Aoko

Once again, I don't know too much about either of these characters, but reading about them on the DCMK wiki...again, enemies-to-lovers will always be a winner in my book. Plus if they were to get together, their personalities would make every interaction very entertaining.

9. Chikage x Toichi

Again, I don't know much about these characters, but I can see why they ended up falling for each other. I can imagine Chikage and Toichi being the ultimate dynamic duo.

10. Yukiko x Yusaku

Honestly, I feel like we don't really see enough about Yukiko and Yusaku's relationship to get a good picture of it, but from what they do show us, it does seem like they're genuinely happy together.

It would be nice if they were better parents, but that's a post for another time.

I am moving from Japan to America next year so I am taking drabble prompts in exchange for Ko-Fi donations so I can save up and do things like send boxes home it’s very expensive laskfjoa.

KSBB22 Interest Check Results!

Hello everyone!

Before we get into it, I just wanna say a quick thank you to everyone who took the KSBB22 interest check! We had 60 responses!

With 95% of responders saying their interest level was 3, 4, or 5 out of 5, this event has been greenlit to run for its 4th iteration!

Among responders, 55% said they wanted to write, 51% said they wanted to create art of some kind, and 23% said they wanted to be pinch-hitters.

As for the word count for this event, 3k and 5k were very close but 3k edges out with 48% of responders preferring the lowest word count.

And finally, only 1% of responders said no to a theme, so there will be an optional theme this year! Thank you to those who submitted theme ideas in the interest check. Theme voting will occur between APRIL 3 and APRIL 9, with the announcement coming on APRIL 10. Please keep an eye out for the vote link, coming out in the next hour or so!

Questions from the survey are below the cut:

Q1. if there are more of writers or artists will those people be paired with a pinch hitter? A1. Yep, that’s exactly it. There will be a few options to choose from for writers are unable to claim an artist for whatever reason: dropping out entirely, becoming a priority pinch-hitter, or continuing as a solo writer until paired with a pinch-hit artist.

Q2. Where can I find the link to the Discord? A2. The server is only open to those who are actively participating in an event or have previously participated in an event. During the bang period, the invite link is either sent out by email or appears at the end of the completed sign-up form.

Q3. On average; how many pieces are created by a single individual? A3. It really depends on what you mean by pieces. Minimum requirements can be found in the faq. Going beyond the minimum is not something everyone chooses to do, but some people do. It comes down to each person and what they have time for.

Q4. Hi! I would like to know how the bang works. Is it like a relay race where an artist makes a sketch that might catch a writers intrest and that the artist then finishes and hands over to the writer to write from? Or is it more like a team exercise where you build something up together with the concept the artist had in mind. That they then constantly shuffle ideas together until they finnish? Or a combination of both more or less? Thanks♡ A4. Please check the faq page. You can find an explanation there. In short it is not a relay or a race but a collaboration between an artist and a writer on a single project.

Q5. Can you join the bigbang, even if you personally don't ship Kaishin? A5. This event (and the server as a whole) is focused on the relationship between Shinichi and Kaito, so it may not be your cup of tea if you don’t ship them. Whether you join is for you to decide!

Q6. Mostly how to join the discord server and how to pair with an artist, this is my first year looking into joining the Kaishin Big Bang, and I loved a lot of fics and art from the previous one. Knowing where to start would help solidify if I want to join or not, thanks. A6. The discord bit has already been answered above (and is also in the faq). As far as how to pair with an artist, writers will be able to view artist sketches and summaries for a period of time before sign-up. The claiming process is currently being decided, so I am unable to fully answer the rest of your question yet.

Q7. how far into detective conan should we be at to be able to participate? A7. There are no such requirements to join any dcmkkaishinevent event!

okay okay okay top ten detective conan things? what do u like most, what do you like to write about/think about, who's your favourite character, that kind of thing

I'm not sure it's actually gonna be in order but whatever

1) In case it wasn't obvious I love Kaitou KID. He's an absolute little shit and each time he smirks I'm like "oh no". I have a stupid crush on this idiot. He's so fucking dramatic. My rewatch of detective conan ended up in a "let's rewatch all the movies with KID and then we'll catch up with the rest".

This is his first appearance but he's still a dumb teenager

2) I miss the style of early Conan it was so so good, around when the FBI arrived I think it's when it started to really change and I found it sad. Conan little round face. Full of unbridled rage. All his littles expressions.

3) Speaking of early Conan he had such a strong gremlim energy. Like sure Shinichi as well but Conan had no limits. He got turned into a kid and decided it was going to be everyone else problem.

4) The manga is getting way too long and while I understand it's probably partly due to editorial decisions and the fact it is somewhat due to the kind of manga it is, the fact it's both trying to have a plot and stay plotless is starting to get tiring, plus we are starting to have a bit too many characters to care about,,, gimme back the original crew, I feel like we haven't seen Sonoko or Kogoro in ages.

5) For some reasons I just don't like Eisuke. No particular reason I just don't like him djdjdjd. Also for the longest time I only knew of him from fics and was expecting him to look different and when he appeared in the manga I was like shockedpikachu.png.

6) Idk I'm just rambling at this point. When I got back into the fandom I started with reading fics for a while before reading the manga and I shipped KaiShin a lot then. But after reading the manga I was like, ShinRan is so perfect and beautiful together. I love them so much. And I guess in a way KaiShin has lost some of his luster to me now djdjdj even though I still love their relationship in a platonic kind of way.

7) The latest case with the kidnapped kid is so fucking dumb,,,,, I'm like, that's not even suspension of disbelief at this point,,,,,,, I understand they want to put forward Amuro/Rei and his police friend who all died because Rei is one of the fandom favourite but also, that's why flashback and spin-off exists.

8) I still have a very soft spot in my heart for the Detective Conan one-shot I wrote about Haibara being able to say goodbye to her sister. Related but I love how Akemi's death and the Moonlight Sonata case stuck with Conan. How they influenced his character, and they're some of my favourite cases overall because we get to see how he deal with "failure", how human he is.

9) Desperate revival arc my beloved. The scene in the cave where he got Shot and the detective boys are all trying to get him out and bring him to safety and Conan still trying to guide them but passing out and aaaaaaaahhhh I just loved this so much. Another passage I really like is the halloween party where there's like Heiji disguised as Shinichi disguised as a Mummy. As a rule I just love the use of disguises. The theatre where Haibara was disguised as Conan and Heiji as a poorly done Shinichi and Shinichi as the black knight 10/10

10) I also love the way Aoyama draw when Shinichi feels his heart going when he turns back into Conan. It's just. *chef kiss*.

8. Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

A lot of the background details are inspired by real events and stuff I experienced during college. Haibara's research is all based on actual research on genetics and gene expression, with some extremely fictitious conveniences thrown in. ISHA is likewise based on a variety of different organizations, government and NGOs alike, but like, on steroids. Shinichi's initial investigation also references a real, horrific tragedy, as well as the malicious and exploitative nature of the garment industry as a whole.

9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Dominoes went through several “versions” before I posted the first chapter. The only thing that hasn’t really changed in-between any of the versions in the ending. All roads lead to Rome, I guess.

My favorite version was an early draft in which Shinichi had reality-bending abilities, and he was constantly surrounded by murder because he subconsciously wanted his life to be a murder-mystery. But that kind of power was really hard on the narrative, and it was tossed out. There was also a version where the climax of part one involved a blimp filled with anti-meta gas, but that version of the story was a logistical nightmare with way too many plot threads to keep track of, and the blimp got cut along with the eco-terrorist villain I had written a whole backstory for…

10. Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

I waffled quite a bit on what pairing I wanted to pursue in Dominoes. (I sometimes still waffle a bit… the temptation of CoAi is strong…). I knew it would start as ShinRan and planned for it to spill into the mess of short-lived interconnected relationships, including a love triangle between Ran, Hakuba, and Aoko, and a love triangle between Shinichi, Sera, and Ran, all while KaiShin and CoAi were gradually beginning to boil on the back burner. Like those teen dramas where the entire cast ends up dating each other at some point or another. The point was to challenge myself and write outside my comfort zone...

But in the end, my natural distaste for writing romance really won out. I just don’t have the will or the motivation to write all those.

Kaishin has always been integral since the idea first occurred to me forever I go; it's kinda essential to get things to the end I envisioned back then. Still, there were times I wondered if it really needed to be an explicit romance rather than just shiptease, but then I stumbled across some commentary on the fic, insisting against the inclusion of Kaishin and mentioning how much better it would be without it, and I immediately decided to double down and make Kaishin kiss a whole lot. (Though we're still getting there...)

Uh.. yeah I didn't think I would write something. But the prompt was cute and I wanted to publish it by Valentine's Day even though I ended up being late anyway;;

I wasn't able to give it a once-over, because of the time constraint. There may or may not be sentences that flow awkwardly, grammar and punctuation errors, formatting mishaps, etc T_T most importantly, beware of plot holes.

Also decided to add some of my thoughts while writing this (aka word dump) ↓

I named the file "me die when I write heart AU" because I would spend days drafting the plot, reasons behind the characters, the extent of a heart's influence, etc o_o for example, what would a bank gain by safekeeping a heart? if the Zen'in get Fushiguro's heart, how can they exploit his power (my guess is: wearing the ring of someone else lets you use their powers to an extent or idk, Zen'in sussy clan magic hahaha;;)? why would Satoru steal Megumi's heart? how to write Megumi without feelings?

The original draft of this story was a Phantom Thief Satoru taking inspiration from Kaito Kid of the anime Magic Kaito 1412 (if you think about it, Kaito, Aoko, and the Inspector could fill the roles of Satoru, Megumi, and Touji let it be known tho, that I prefer KaiShin). Therefore, it was supposed to follow the general plot from MK: Phantom thief Satoru steals hearts every full moon, but ends giving them back. One day, as per routine, he steals Megumi's heart, but doesn't return it. That is because he finally found the ring he was looking for, the 10 Shadows, capable of granting immortality (revive would be cool according to JJK theories). I also considered it being any wish. The story sounds compelling, but looking at it closely, people don't display their hearts/rings like jewels, Satoru cannot destroy Megumi's heart like how Kaito is supposed to destroy the Pandora. Also, how will it end? will Megumi use his heart to heal Satoru from a mortal wound at the cost of his feelings forever? These and many other plot holes were a big headache. I was mixing too many themes, so something had to break.

That doesn't mean I will reject the possibility of a different story with eccentric phantom thief Satoru and maybe assistant OR detective Megumi. But considering this was my first fanfic even after being an avid reader of them for more than a decade, I can't promise more will be written. I'm bad at words after all hahaha...

If I decide to continue this, it would be hard because I feel like I have to give gfsh their 9 years back which means... a ton of writing (as deserved LOL). The next chapters would probably be series of gfsh mini episodes. I could imagine one being: gofushi tries to infiltrate the party of a possible power user, Satoru tricks Megumi into crossdressing+fake dating. I think Im dumping most of my fav tropes on this AU LOL

I would definitely try to rewrite this oneshot for a multi chaptered fic. These plot holes hurt me... but I rushed the publication for VDay.

At first, I wasn't going to include powers, it clashed with the story and created more plot holes (it's akin to lying to get out of a lie, only that it makes things worse;;). However, the reintroduction of techniques enriched the plot.

Does it seem like Megumi is showing feelings even without the heart? uh idk, Im awful at this topic (its hard for me to describe or identify feelings) but first half Megumi acts based on logic. Sukuna confession->unnecessary crowd and rumours. Heart being stolen->how will he keep getting money from the Zen'ins? Suspicious guy outside->hindrance to schedule. Tsumiki-> uh he is doing it out of courtesy/keeping social appearance? Im not sure ;-; Basically, he wants an ordinary life like Saiki from the anime Saiki Kusuo no Psinan.

What did Touji do to Satoru? Good question! I don't know either :D I left it up on the air on purpose. Well, Touji isn't that bad here. He let Megumi have a chance at saving his heart for 12 years maybe on the hopes that Satoru would pull through eventually. Is he still alive? who knows.

Why does it seem like Satoru knows Megumi already? Hmmm not sure, he just wrote like that to me. Probably because I felt bad how their 9 years never happened in this AU so I sped up their bonding process... or maaaybe it's actually a Satoru that has memories from the original JJK timeline. Imagine multiple gofushi AUs happening together at the same time and heartAU!Satoru is aware of the canon universe or the rest of the universes too (this has been done before in the light novel from another anime, but Im not going to spoil it, if you know, you know haha). Or we could always choose the trusty reincarnation AU >w< because Magic Kaito 1412's second opening is about a couple reincarnating. So maybe that vibe rubbed off on me.

-> Wow.. imagine a multiverse gofushi fic o_o but similar to that light novel. It would be amazing... amazingly tragic. It actually doesn't sound so bad, I think I could make it work.

Why does Megumi trust Satoru so fast? Yay, isn't it more romantic? similar to fated souls, when you meet someone new and click instantly. I wrote him that way on purpose, for example, how Megumi calmed down after Satoru joke. Also, because of the previous reason too. Halfway into writing the fic, I realized... that their nine years together were sacrificed! T_T

I wasn't sure how to write the part where Satoru showed his ring to Megumi. Initially, it was a box, but I was pressed with time, and somehow introduced Satoru's ring instead. Now that I think about it, it's funny how Satoru let Megumi see his ring kekeke like giving his heart to him. But it's also a magician's stunt of diverting attention (albeit a bad one).

I feel like I could write more, but I have to go buy birthday gifts o_o and my brain isn't quite working after staying up late writing the fic. Anyway, if you enjoyed the story, thank you for reading! (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)

8. Do you have a big project planned for the new year?

For now, The White Collar Phantom Thief really is the only bigger thing I have planned for the new year! I fear it's going to be long and elaborate. Most my multi-chapter fics start out with me estimating like 10 chapters and they only expand later. But the way I'm planning this one out and want to slowburn the KaiShin in it, it's going to be longer, that's for sure. xD

But aside from that, I don't have any other bigger project planned for now.

New Year Fanfic Game

I lived in a nice and happy world until I saw this Makoto x Kaito comic... and now I need more of that dynamic, but it’s so hard to find content I cry. (this is one of my pairings that brain don’t wanna create, just wanna consume, so I can’t even feed myself because brain is being unhelpful)

Alternatively, two friends ship Hakuba x Shiho and... they actually fit well together? Potentially. As they never interacted in canon. But certainly there is potential in there and I’m curious about the pairing. :D

Actually, considering that after I first watched MK (and the few DC episodes I watched at the time) I didn’t have any ship in particular and was looking into fics for gen content, a good part of my DCMK ships fall into this category. KaiShin is one for sure and it somehow became one of my comfort ships nowadays.

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)

For DCMK, if I wanna source something, I just look into the thing in the manga.

I can only read translations and not the original text, so I like seeing analysis of people who can understand the original text and what they have to say about things. Some tumblr users do that and I really appreciate them. :D (I like to source character analysis that people write as well together with the manga! Other people explain things way better than I can hope to achieve.)

The Detective Conan World Wiki is also nice to quickly check facts, although I wouldn’t use it as a source and more as a tool to find where I should look to check what I wanna check (Imagine searching 1000+ DC chapters otherwise)

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike)

I don’t like Gin...

But boy, does he have one of the best DCMK hairs? Absolutely. I can imagine him in a L’Oréal commercial with wind in his hair being completely fabulous and stealing all the spotlight. It’s a delight to draw it. If brain could focus on something not MK/Kaito-related, I would certainly draw more of this scary guy for his fabulous hair alone.

(Drawing scary bad guy expressions is fun as well, and Gin can combo fabulous hair with fun expressions. 11/10 character to draw)

I may multiship... but I usually like it when there's solid context/content with them to be a canon ship, know what I mean?? If those two have actual history together and not just 10 meetings in 6months as shrunken detective and phantom thief who never reveals his identity... I'd be ok with it lol

So, I was thinking about the coronavirus pandemic and what I could do to help people out. I’m isolated because I’m at higher risk, so I can’t really offer to go out for my elderly neighbors or my family… but I thought I could try to help keep people entertained.

Because I don’t have an AO3 account right now, I’ve been compiling fic recs for my own amusement for a year or so. And I thought – maybe that’s the time to share these with everyone? So everyone will have plenty of things to read while they have to stay at home, or even to escape anxiety a little bit if you’re forced to go out.

Of course, these cater to my own tastes, so you may find stuff you don’t like around here. I never include works in progress. The Mature and Explicit works will be in italic. I ask you to READ THE WORK’S TAGS before continuing, so you won’t find anything that makes you uncomfortable.

When it comes to Criminal Minds, I only had one OTP, one that’s been carrying me through the first seven seasons and which will, hopefully, carry me towards season 11 (and what am I going to do once Hotch leaves the show? I have no idea). So, here are my Hotch/Reid fic recs:
