This week I am participating in a fundraiser with @ficwritersforreproductiverights to raise money for organizations that protect reproductive rights.

Between October 17-23 you can donate any amount to any organization for reproductive rights and (with proof of donation) vote on which story you would like to see me write.

Here's how it works:

1. WHIZ Radio: a sample broadcast from Billy Batson's radio show detailing some of the strange and whimsical things that make Fawcett City such an interesting place to live.

2. Calling All New Recruits: post identity reveal, a new batch of JL recruits are sworn in only to realize no one saw fit to explain to them who this 12 year old kid wandering around the Watchtower actually is.

3. Sticky Fingers: After years living the streets Billy has developed a bad habit of stealing whatever he can get his hands on. Trying to break that habit may be trickier than he thought.

Vampire!Shinichi. Working title: Different Means. This fic would also feature magicalblood!Kaito (he’s basically vampire catnip in this scenario, let’s be real) and would be rated E for sexy times as well as for violence. (Whump? You better believe it.) The idea belongs to @kiwilart and their friend, but I got real obsessed with it and they said it would be okay if I wrote my take on it : ) This would be a little bit of a longer fic. Probably with chapters instead of a one-shot.

Gay drama! Working title: runner. Kaito’s deeply closeted and dealing with some internalized homophobia and it’s ruining his and Shinichi’s relationship. Can love conquer all? Well this one’s got a happy ending, so yeah, I guess it can lol It will be rated either E or M for sexy times – not sure yet. I’m guessing this will be a one-shot.

Porn! Working title: It Was Only Just a Dream. Starts out with Shinichi having a sexy dream and Kaito having a bit of voyeurism. Ends with actual sexy times~ Rated E. No plot. One-shot.

Other porn! Working title: Rival Fantasy. Involving blindfolded Shinichi, a bit of bondage, and a bit of roleplay as sort of pre-relationship thief and detective (instead of the practically married couple they already are in this fic). Rated E. No plot. One-shot.

Any one-shot fluffy get-together fic. I’ve got a fluffy get-together G-rated one-shot that I could probably crank out pretty quickly if it’s what the good people want :) Working title: In My Dreams from the song of the same title by Ruth B.

Detective Conan Movie Cut Scenes: The Private Eyes' Requiem. Has it been two and a half years since I posted one of these? Yes. But that doesn’t mean I’m not still working on it. But now you have the power to say, “No more waiting! Give us Kaito’s perspective on the hostages in a theme park and detectives wearing bombs movie!”

Look, DS, I just want you to focus on the the next installment of the Fall into Flying universe! I’ve been working on Blackout for probably three years now, and I’m still only halfway through the eighth chapter. The pandemic messed me up for a while, but if the people decree, I will get my butt back on track and focus in on this mighty beast of a story! This one comes with the bonus factor of tumblr teaser posts every time I complete a chapter! The first seven are already posted ;)

Fic For Charity!

Hi! I’m joining @ficwritersforreproductiverights to raise money for organisations that protect reproductive rights. I'll be writing a DNF fic from one of the three prompts below and you can vote for which one you want by donating to a charity of your choice!

PROMPT ONE: Magical Mishaps Wizard Karl is still learning to control his magic and accidentally casts various spells on Dream and George, including one that forces them to touch each other constantly until it’s broken. Cue awkward cuddling, misunderstandings, and eventual confessions. Friends to lovers, set in the future, magical realism, light angst, domestic fluff

PROMPT TWO: Aspec DNF An exploration of the canon timeline if Dream was asexual and George was aromantic. Dream is secure in who he is but it takes longer for George to figure himself out - and it takes moving to Florida and meeting Dream in person to realise what he really wants. Identity exploration, fluff and angst, dual POV, queerplatonic relationship

PROMPT THREE: Driving Lessons As promised, Dream teaches George to drive once he moves to Florida. It doesn’t go quite the way either of them planned - perhaps being cooped up in a cramped space where all the tension can’t be ignored anymore isn’t the smartest plan. Friends to lovers, George in Florida, fluff and angst, mutual pining, jealous Dream, the slow burn romance novel that is DNF’s real life

Peak Drarry: Celebrating Incredible Writers - aibidil

Peak Drarry is a series of posts celebrating the absolute treasure trove of talented writers in this fandom, and a reminder of how lucky we are to have them here with us. I’m kicking it off with one of my all-time faves, @aibidil​. 

✨AIBIDIL✨

I’m guessing there are very few people involved in the Drarry fandom who haven’t heard of aibidil. Aibidil has been showering us with quality fic since 2017 and has over sixty offerings on AO3. Her works were some of the first I consumed when I fell headfirst into Drarry during covid, and had a lot to do with my desire to write my own. I still distinctly remember being blown away by A Hag, a Hex, a Tale of Redemption, by how aibidil had managed to create such a compelling, funny, and heartfelt fuck-or-die fic, one that stood out from the rest. So, why should you read aibidil’s fic? Here are a few reasons:

They are creative and get you thinking

Sometimes there’s a trope or two thrown into the mix, but even then, the trope is merely a jump-off point into something much bigger. Trope: Ginny and Harry break up and Harry finds solace in and then love with Draco. Aibidil comes along and says, okay, fine, but make the problem Ginny’s unwanted pregnancy, have Harry experience emotional turmoil over that fact (not that Harry-Abandonment-Issues-Should-Be-My-Middle-Name-Potter identifies with an unwanted fetus, no, of course not), have him spend the rest of the story sorting through his complicated feelings, and make the whole thing a testament to reproductive choice (this fic is called (Un)wanted, by the way. It’s incredible). Trope: Malfoy wears a skirt and Harry goes feral. Aibidil’s take? Malfoy wears the skirt because he and Hermione are leading a protest against the gendered, outdated Ministry dress codes (Beards, Booty Shorts, and Binaries).

Abidil’s stories don’t always skew political (although I love when they do), but they always have something to say. In A Hag, a Hex, a Tale of Redemption, Draco must come to terms with what it means to love someone, and how consent plays into that (does a lie negate consent?). Truth and love also play a role in When Times Are Dire, when Harry and Draco must pretend to marry to save the world. But is it pretend when they really are joining their lives and families together?

Beyond the deeper moral and ethical questions present in these stories, aibidil’s fic always manages to be creative and interesting. Abidil comes up with some of the most inventive sorts of magic (you really have to read her latest, Always Already, for one of the most thoughtful depictions of magical time travel I’ve ever read). Her premises can be angsty, like what if Astoria tells Scorpius—on her death bed no less—that he is actually Draco’s child with Harry (when by now and tree by leaf)? They can also be downright silly, like what if Draco can’t stop hiccoughing for days (Upside Down, Holding One’s Breath)? But one thing of which you can be certain: they’re never, ever boring.

They’re a master class in characterization

So, aibidil can dream up interesting, different, thought-provoking storylines, yes. But she also gets it right when it comes to characterization. Her Harry and Draco are always recognizable to me, no matter how evolved and changed they’ve become. There is something essential there, something true to the characters we know and love, that is ever present. And I think that’s because aibidil truly empathizes with and cares about her characters. This knack for getting in a character’s headspace means that aibidil is able to create some of the most fully formed, well rounded and realistically portrayed versions of Harry and Draco I’ve read. Whether it’s Harry in When Times are Dire enjoying the way his children sort of take his love for granted (because Harry wants that for them so badly, wants to be a constant, unquestioned source of support in their lives) or Draco in Always Already shoving down his snark in order to be as inoffensive as possible as a sort of penance for the war, you both recognize and feel for these characters. They’re flawed and imperfect, but they’re trying, and you love them for it.

There are moments in aibidil’s fic that leave me breathless because of how well they nail down the essence of a character in just a few words, or a single exchange or situation. For instance, in When Times Are Dire, Draco and Harry take a trip to the zoo and Draco buys Harry an absurdly enormous ice cream sundae after Harry recalls a time his aunt and uncle bought one for Dudley but not him. “Harry found himself at a loss for words,” aibidil writes. “He thought he’d worked through his childhood zoo issues. He’d been here so many times as an adult, without the abuse of the Dursleys. He had so many wonderful memories here, so many trips with his kids. But no one had ever bought Harry an ice cream before [emphasis mine].” The way Draco understands Harry, and the way he helps Harry to understand something about himself in such an everyday sort of scene is beautiful.

In Pure Imagination, Harry and Draco, experiencing depression after the war, are given a potion that allows them to tap into their imaginations completely, the way a child would. They have an excellent time on the potion together, imagining all sorts of things, including taking a trip to a Muggle skate park (together), which they agree to do at a later date. But afterward, Harry retreats and doesn’t go to the skate park (a decision that gives us incredible insight into the Harry of this story, come to think of it). In their joint trip to the counselor’s office later, Draco tells the counselor that imagination is dangerous because it opens people up to disappointment. “It’s smart that I don’t allow myself delusions like thinking I can somehow have a fulfilling career, even given my past,” he says. “It’s smart that I don’t allow myself the delusion of thinking Potter might want to spend time with me when he’s not high on a fucking imagination potion.”

And doesn’t this cut right to the heart of Draco? Whether he’s being cruel the way he was in canon, or being cool and indifferent, the way he is at the beginning of Pure Imagination, he is someone who struggles to believe in his own self-worth, and has found an entire arsenal’s worth of methods to hide this fact, even, sometimes, from himself. 

They’re just so damn funny

And finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of the absolute best things about aibidil’s stories. Because on top of incredible storylines and beautiful character work, aibidil is fucking hilarious. I don’t think I’ve ever read through anything of hers without laughing out loud. Oftentimes, the humor is situational, like in When Times Are Dire when Harry and Draco tell their children that they’re in a relationship (when they’re actually not) and proceed to have one of the most awkward exchanges of all time with them, which leads to Harry clarifying that they are together ‘sexually’ (He says that. To his children.). Or in Auld Acquaintance, when Harry comes through the floo looking like a teenager and Draco finds himself torn between the ghost of attraction his own teenaged self had for this version of Harry and the fact that to his mature, grandfatherly eye, Harry looks “doughy…like an underbaked infant.” Or in Starve Your Distractions, Feed Your Focus, when a coupled-up Harry and Draco have to work out with a very sexy Neville, who is wearing joggers that leave little to the imagination.

Sometimes, though, the hilarity is in the form of amazing dialogue (her Harry and Draco banter is always top-tier) or of others’ observations of the Drarry dynamic, like when Neville says (in Always Already) this about Harry and Draco’s teasing of one another: “Don't mind them. It's like their little traumatised child-warrior foreplay or something.” Aibidil is always aware of the story she’s telling, and of the Drarry-ness of it all. These are not simple men, and theirs is never a typical, simple relationship, and you know what? That can be funny. As Harry says in When Times are Dire: "Ah yes. I'm a cheap date. All it takes to get me in bed is to almost kill each other, survive a war together, work together over decades, have children who fall in love and get married, get married for political reasons, pretend to be in love for two years to all friends and relatives, become grandparents together, and take a controlled substance to open up enough to tell each other the truth. That's all."

See? Easy.

Finally, I shouldn’t leave out the fact that aibidil’s acronyms are the best of all time (her most recent fic’s C.O.C.K. is my new favorite, but there are oodles of excellent ones).

Recommended For…

Everyone. Listen, if you enjoy laughing, or exciting and original storylines, or fic that makes you think, or fic that reveals the beating hearts of our favorite characters, aibidil’s catalog of work is for you. There is angst in places, there is smut in places, but that’s not really the point of her fic. The point is the journey, the character development, and the ridiculous amount of joy and energy contained in all of these stories. Here are a few you might want to check out, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything she’s written.

The Usual (9k) - Harry finally tries the new magical coffee shop on Diagon Alley. A story in which Draco is Up To Something™ and Harry is going to get to the bottom of it, and to the bottom of that sixteen ounce to-go cup.

Beards, Booty Shorts, and Binaries (9k) - Harry was hoping for a quiet day at the office, but Hermione and Draco are waging a war on discrimination with beards and skirts.

When Times Are Dire (130k) - Magical Britain is screwed, and it's once again up to Harry to save it. This time, by marrying Draco Malfoy.

Okay I'm sure we all have spent way too much time thinking about speedster biology in various contexts for fic reasons, but you know what I cannot stop thinking about? How does speedster biology affect the menstrual cycle???

It must do, right? It has so many effects on the body---rapid metabolism, speed healing, potentially immortality (let's not open that can of worms again lmao), increased cell reproduction rate, etc. There's no way that it doesn't have some effect on their periods.

We know that speedsters (at least those with penises/testes etc.) can reproduce, so clearly it doesn't cause sufficient havoc to make them infertile---though there is some evidence to suggest that it could make it harder to conceive, since it takes Barry and Iris quite a while to get pregnant with Nora (interesting, since I always kinda figured speedster biology would increase the sperm count, but that's probs more to do with fandom brain rot making me convinced speedsters have a higher libido; not sure there was ever any canon evidence of that).

Realistically they probably did this for TV reasons, because by the rules of fiction, TV characters get pregnant easily when they do not want to, but if they're trying, then it will be incredibly difficult and take months to the point that they're like "ugh, we have to have sex AGAIN i guess even though we'd rather be doing literally anything else" (I'm looking at you Flash AND B99, I hate this trope, if sex is becoming a chore maybe you should uh. not do it for a while?)

Also, Jay Garrick and Joan, the only other speedster/normal person couple we know, don't have kids that we know of. Again, maybe they just didn't want them, maybe they met after Joan was menopausal, not sure we ever got confirmation either way, but that could be a point towards the speedforce affecting the reproductive system.

Anyways, either way the show doesn't address how speedster biology affects periods. They probably never thought about it, honestly; everyone knows characters on TV don't have periods, they figure out they're pregnant due to sudden random morning sickness, not a tampon or period tracking app in sight. But EYE am thinking about it.

If every process in the body speeds up, do they have more frequent periods that are just over really quickly? (Not sure if this would be better or worse than the usual kind? Probably worse, defo more annoying.) And if so, what is the hormonal cycle like? Are some speedsters going through mini PMS cycles on a weekly basis? (My thoughts and prayers are with them if so.) Are their periods super irregular? Do their periods maybe stop entirely at some points, due to the strain of constantly running around and the struggle of eating enough to maintain the body weight required to stay regular? This is something that happens with regular old athletes, so it could definitely happen to a speedster that burns a huge amount of calories and is EXTREMELY physically active.

Also, does the healing factor affect the duration of the period? That's one point in favour of a faster cycle, maybe a lighter flow, reduced cramps?? Imagine how much those period hunger cravings would suck when you already have to eat like 15000 calories a day! Like if I, as a person with a standard metabolism, feel the urge to devour everything in sight at that time of the month, how much worse would it be as a speedster for whom "constantly starving" is the default?

Of course, the most boring option is that they're just normal periods, and that's probably what the writers would say, if pushed. that's the coward's answer, tbh, but hey, maybe their periods are normal.  We never see any of the female speedsters on the show attempt to get pregnant, so again, we can't say if they would have difficulties, maybe they'd ovulate totally normally. Maybe Barry and Iris had issues just because sometimes people do just struggle to get pregnant for whatever reason. either way, it's SO interesting to think about.

1. fake dating - Lexi and Fez are best friends and Lexi’s high school reunion comes closer – only problem: Lexi had told everyone she had a boyfriend, which isn’t true. Now it’s for Fez to play this part authentically. 

2. High school au - Fez and Lexi become lab partners during the first day of the new school year - only thing is: he sold her best friend Rue the drugs that made her overdose and Lexi swore to hate him ever since.

3. Awkward dinner Au (breaking bad inspired) – Fez is having his first dinner with the Howards as Lexi’s boyfriend (after they have been caught making out) and things don’t go as planned.

Sexuality in the Star Wars Universe

This has been swirling around in my head for a while now, so I finally decided to write it down. Hopefully it makes some kind of sense.

This all started when I read a few different fics based in the RepCom universe in which Kal Skirata is homophobic. It's been a while since I read the books, so I can't remember if this is text, subtext, or a conclusion based on the traditional vibes he gives off, but it definitely gave me pause.

Sexuality in Star Wars is such a BIG thing to wrap your head around because the universe itself is BIG and OLD.

I call Kal a "traditionalist" because he's written as being similar to an old Earth guy with traditional views of marriage, family, etc. But I think basing a character's "traditional" values on Earth history is a bit myopic. We earthlings get most of those traditional views from biblical times, right? And we're only about 2,000 years removed from those times, right? Imagine if we were almost 100,000 years removed from them.

You're really going to tell me that, in a universe where human civilization, not even to mention the civilizations of the THOUSANDS of others species in the galaxy, have existed for hundreds of thousands of years, others for far longer, Old Kal is really worried about his boys having sex with other boys?

This universe has literal ancient gods, super powers, millions of religions, interspecies relationships and reproduction, and probably a million different forms of sexuality and expressions of gender between all the different species. It's mind boggling. There are approximately 8 billion people on Earth right now. The estimated number of beings in the Star Wars universe is in the QUADRILLIONS that live across one billion star systems!

My personal take is that humans in the Star Wars universe would have completely different values than Earth humans. I don't see how they couldn't. Hell, humanity has evolved and adapted in so many different ways that there are many "near human" species too.

All that being said, I know the writers of the canon and Legends books had their own problems and prejudices and were, of course, bound but what they were allowed to publish. I'm just saying that I'm really glad that fanfiction writers are open to seeing a bigger picture, cause, like I said, the picture is unimaginably massive and I think we need to stretch our brains a bit to do it justice.

I'll cover my butt by saying that, sure, it's possible that even in this universe, there are sects that uphold very old-fashioned beliefs, but I think it's hard for us to say that definitively just because we have no concept of how that much history would effect a species. We see everything through the lens of Earth history, when Star Wars humans probably wouldn't be very much like us at all. Just growing up in a world where you knew from birth that there were so many different kinds of people and cultures out there would have an effect on a person's worldview that is difficult to imagine.

(Oh, and absolutely no shade to anyone who has written about homophobia in their fics. It's a problem we real humans deal with and I totally understand why people want to address it in their writing. This is just coming from my in-universe perspective, that obviously might not be shared by others.)

With one third of the 33 votes, Detective Conan Movie Cut Scenes for Private Eyes' Requiem wins!

Once I finish the commission fic I'm currently working on, I'll concentrate my focus on finishing up this next installment of movie cut scenes! It's pretty solidly underway already - I've made it as far as Kogoro being brought in by the police as a possible KID accomplice. There was a TON of timeline analysis in the beginning back when I started working on this a good two and a half years ago, but I think I've gotten past the really tough parts and I hope I'll be able to have it wrapped up and ready for posting (relatively) soon!

And of course, with 33 votes, I'm going to go ahead and sort of round that up to a $35 dollar donation to the American Civil Liberties Union!

@fishing4stars 🍓- So, my then 11 year old watched The Hobbit Trilogy with me for the first time. He elgit cried when "Bilbo's boyfriend" died, he was so unhappy. So i told him a story about how it was hard, but Bilbo and Thorin sorted it all out and now live happily in Erebor. I then wrote it down, making it a but more grown up and my first fic (Stop me fading) was written not quiet a year ago. So thank you Mr 11 lol. ⬜ - (cant find the right emoji for describing your latest fic so - 🐕‍🦺🐩🐕🥰🐾 🎨 - ngl, theres so much amazing art, it changes, but right now its this. The art, the expression, the colours and the glasses! Be still my heart 🥰 @niennawept 🕯 - is there a minus? -5 milion. Not only do i not notice a lot of mistakes, neither dies the editing app I pay for so I have to also run it through a TTS programme (its a new thing Im doing and its really good for me), but I also often tend to type in Romani chib. It has NO grammatic rules, its all sounds and noise and is a nightmare to translate 🙈 🌿 - ngl, as someone with 61 wips on the go, its not something I deal with often, but if im not sure what to write, I will do smaller things like micro fics and FlashFictionFriday. They are supposed to be small so no extra pressure for complicted wips, FFF are less then 1000 words so are great to get you going again imo. @thatfancygirlinblack 🥤 - There are way to many writers I adore, both Bagginshield and Wolfstar, so instead I'm going to link my all time comfort fic. It's a Wolfstar muggle Au but it hits all the right spots for me, plus its an orphan account so Im not picking someone over others lol. An Infinite Ocean 🍅 - concrit for myself - stop writing in bloody chib. The amount of times Bilbo and Sirius say "wanna, ganna, canna," as if they would and i dont even notice 🙈 ☁ - So, my usernaem is a childhood nickname my dad gave me. He has been gone nearly 10 years ad no one else evr called me it. Now I have lots of friends who do and it makes my heart happy each time <3 🔪 - currently, id sat the reproductive and queer behav iour of aimals, all sorts of animals. I have plans for so many animal Aus and Ive bee researching their behaviour with same sex partners lol.
