A big thank you to Natalie & @theverakeller (and her sister!) for their feedback on this <3 I appreciate y’all sm!
Cinnabar was once an open country to all who wished to visit the kingdom and experience the colorful nation firsthand. A nation rich with culture, food, art, and history hosted countless tourists each year. That changed when the neighboring kingdom of Obsidian unexpectedly invaded Cinnabar.
Breakfast had just ended and Estella had decided to take her dance practice earlier than usual. Last night she was so close to perfecting each step of the new routine she was learning. As she walked to the ballroom she mentally runs through each step of the routine, paying extra attention to the part she often finds herself messing up on. She stepped into the ballroom and was surprised to see some staff in there already.
They had already started their daily work and were already sprucing up the room. She invited them to practice dancing with her — some refused, scared to abandon their work but others who knew the princess well took up the offer. Equipped without a band, the dancers began to sing out the song for this particular dance. Each person moved with such poise and grace, all while wearing a smile. But even through the myriad sound of tapping shoes and the hummed melody there was a commotion that could be heard through the ballroom doors. Before someone could go out into the hall to investigate, a soldier burst through the door and yelled, "Obsidianite soldiers are heading into Cinnabar, they are close to breaching our border!" His words sent everyone into a frenzy.
Estella doesn't even bother changing out of her dance attire — she picks up her skirt and immediately begins to run, the hard soles of her dancing shoes clacking against the shiny tile floors. Her shoes that often accompanied music and cheerful shouts, now carry a sense of urgency.
Once she goes through the throne room doors, she finds her family, her father's best, and most trusted commanders, the mood is drastically different.
After they had a plan of attack, the king and his troops rode out immediately. The queen who was left in charge, immediately began giving orders to anyone she could, and Estella stood there unsure as to what she could do to help. The queen was pregnant with her third child but due to the stress of the on coming siege she went into early labor. Her ladies in waiting eagerly tried to take her away, but the queen stubbornly refused until her contractions were too much for her to bear. She then handed command over to her son. The first prince, then 16, took over.
Unfortunately with all soldiers currently occupied, there was no one to relay the message to the king that the queen had gone into labor. Estella, then 12, stepped up to relay the message, fully knowing the risks. She and her servants quickly geared her and the horse she's had since childhood for the journey ahead.
Estella rode and rode, but as she ventured closer to where the battle just took place, she noticed things were a little too quiet. Despite her sword skills being merely adequate, she was ready to fight any enemy soldiers she encountered. She continued on and eventually came across what would change the foundations of Cinnabar. She came into the field where dozens of Cinnabarian soldiers lay dead, and up ahead in the distance she could see the dark uniform of an Obsidian soldier fighting with someone donning her kingdom’s uniform. As she got closer, she noticed it was the uniform befitting for royalty – it was her father who was the one fighting for Cinnabar. Once she noticed this, her breathing became labored and she tried to push her horse to go faster, but it was too late. The Obsidian soldier struck his sword through the king. He then withdrew his sword and a stream of red followed behind it, staining the battlefield grass in crimson. Going in for the final blow he lifted his sword once again but the princess was having none of it and immediately went in to fight the enemy who had years of experience over her.
Although she was young, she did manage to fight off the Obsidianite soldier, but not without taking on her own set of injuries. Just as she delivered the finishing blow to the Obsidianite soldier, the remaining Cinnabar soldiers, who had followed the opposing troops fleeing the battlezone, returned to the field. They immediately began setting up camp to administer life saving care to the king who was clinging onto life and also bandaging up the young princess. She was bandaged up, but would be left with scars – of both varieties. As the medical team was attending to the king, the princess was helping the soldiers with those fallen, and she thanked them for their service. It was during this that the king took a turn for the worst - there was no saving him. The king had a servant call for his daughter - his one and only princess.
"Hi, my estrella. You fought well." He smiled, voice weak from the pain. Estella smiled back - tears forming, she was scared and her father seemed so small to her at that moment. She had never seen him like this.
His voice and laugh that can usually fill up a room and echo back is becoming no more. He let out a grunt from pain and wheezed out his next words, "These are my final orders." Estella felt like her heart was about to stop and her blood ran cold.
"What? You're going to be okay." She kneeled by the cot that was serving as his deathbed. But the king already had an assistant writing down his last words. The king weakly patted his daughter's head.
"The Queen will be in charge after I'm gone. She is fully capable of running this country without me - hell, she practically already runs it. You protect her with your lives. Once she is ready to leave the throne, it'll go to-" he coughed but immediately resumed once it stopped,
"The first princess, Estella. She may be young but l've seen her vindication for this country and it'll be in great hands with the two strong, and capable women in my life." He gave a weak smile. He continued to give out his final words, and then he gave his daughter the last of his attention. "Thank you for being here, my estrella. You've lit up my final moments with your light. I'm sorry I won't be able to dance with you at your coming of age ceremony — or your wedding." He laughed weakly, but that small laugh was too much for his failing body. He began to cough up blood. Estella was quick to grab a cloth and clean up the king. "Be sure to not cause your brother too much trouble, and be sure to protect the little one. Take care of each other, and your mom."
Estella was holding back her sobs — she felt weak, useless as she watched her father die.
"I could be like this for a while — I'd rather this be over now." The king's hand searched the table by his bedside until he found what he was looking for — a small blade.
"I want you to do it." He mustered all the strength he could and transferred the blade into the hands of his daughter. "You'd be doing me a favor. Don't feel guilty about it. I’m not worried about me—" his sentence was cut off by a harsh, bloody cough, but once he caught his breath he continued his thought, “I’m more upset I won’t be able to watch you and your brother grow up anymore.”
Estella felt her hands start to tremble and her fleeting eyes look over at the nearby assistant who had been watching the entire time. He looked away the moment she looked over at him, his lips pressed into a fine line and knuckles white from gripping his writing utensil so hard. She was conflicted — her heart was telling her to not to take the remainder of her father's life, but her brain was telling her to follow the orders of her father, her king. She wanted to scream but the lump in her throat stopped her. She felt her tears that she had been holding back break through. She bowed her head down and brought her forehead down to her father's. She spoke softly to him, the nearby assistant could only catch a few words. Her streaming tears trickled down onto her father's face.
"I'll remember you always. Know that I am proud and so lucky to have been your daughter. I'll be sure to live the rest of my life making you proud. I'll carry out your last wish." She moved her face and placed a kiss on her father's cheek.
There were so many things that the king wanted to say to his daughter but there was only one he thought was most important, "I love y—" but his words were cut short by his daughter driving the knife into his body and putting his life to an end. Estella felt something inside of her snap–there was a ringing in her ears. But even through that irritating ringing, she hears a scream and she can't help but wonder where it's coming from.
It was not until she felt the burning in her throat that she realized it was her own screams that she was hearing. The soldiers outside of the tent felt their blood run cold, already knowing in their hearts what those haunting wails meant. When the princess had entered the tent earlier, the soldiers saw a young, innocent girl walk in, but when they saw her walk out with blood splatters all over her, that once innocent girl was gone and out emerged a warrior who now knows the horrors of war. Estella crumbles to her knees, the same blade she had used to kill her father in her hand, she raises it, placing it behind her head, grips her long hair in her empty hand. And with one quick decisive swipe she cuts through her hair and her beloved long flowing locks scatter along with the wind.
Estella doesn’t remember the trip back home, let alone even getting back on her horse. She led the soldiers back with the king’s corpse in tow, along with the fallen soldiers. The castle was filled with the wails of a new born prince, but soon after the soldiers arrived back with the news of the king's passing, the castle was filled with the wails of mourners. Later, not too long after the queen’s coronation Cinnabar's borders began to close, and security forces were amplified. Estella took it upon herself to focus more on her sword and close-range combat skills. The queen delegated most of her duties to her two eldest children so she could rest up after giving birth and to properly mourn her husband. Soon enough after dedicating herself day and night to honing her skills, Estella found herself surpassing her brother as well as her sword master. Her brother, who had taken over the military operations after their father's death, then felt it was better under Estella’s command. Estella trained them hard, making sure another atrocity like El Día de Oscuridad – what the disastrous day became known as – never happened again. All the soldiers were initially upset that the princess had taken command, but once they saw that her skills easily outweighed theirs and she was quick to defeat the strongest soldier, they whipped themselves into shape. But even after going through the princess' vigorous training, they still couldn't defeat her. She quickly earned their respect and soon enough tales of her strength spread throughout the kingdom and even reached into other kingdoms and across the ocean and into the next continent. The Cinnabarian military could now give the Obsidian military a run for their money, and their commander was not even 15 years old yet. Estella also took it upon herself to personally inspect the borders every so often, making sure everything was up to her standards. More than once did she have to scare the Achroite military away. After the first handful of times she got annoyed and each time she always noticed the tall, blonde man standing in front of the soldiers. She would always roll her eyes before blowing into her death whistle which would always make them run away. Then slowly Estella stopped her inspections of the borders once everything was running smoothly. Now that international security had been dealt with, she assisted her brother with domestic affairs and with helping the people of Cinnabar. Estella continued to grow up in Cinnabar without seeing any of the other Kingdoms, but she always kept up with current affairs and events. Staying within Cinnabar had become the normative for the royal Cinnabar siblings that it came as a shock to them when one night at dinner the Queen asked them, “How do you feel about Cinnabar re-opening its borders?”
Bonus:
The Queen holds her newborn princess in her arms — peacefully asleep with a slight pout to her lips. "She's so beautiful - perfect even." The king says with misty eyes.
"Now how do we name something so perfect?" The Queen says while never taking her eyes off of her precious gem. A gentle finger stroking the soft skin of the princesses hand.
"The other day, I was looking at some danburite gems and I thought to myself, "These look like stars." They were so pretty. And it made me think, "Stars....
Estrellas... Estella."
"Estella... That's beautiful."
"Danburite is the gem of Cinnabar... and if you like..., Estella will be the gem in our life."
"I do... it's the perfect name for her. Do you hear that?
Your name is Estella, do you like it?"
And it was almost as if the stars aligned in that moment as the princess opened her sparkling eyes that shared the same color and shine as danburite.

I was tagged by ma tite cocotte (my little hen :3 I always google what you’ll find if you try to translate what I say, and was immediately concerned you’d think I was calling you a casserole XD Although I’m sure you’re delicious...? *creepy complimenting intensifies*), @stolperzunge, to post 7 lines of my current WIP and tag 7 other people to do the same!
Here’s a wee taste of Chapter 7 for I Don’t Think Enough Before I Say Too Much (Sledgefu)
Gene was being dragged through the thick fog of sleep to wakefulness by the sound of his own name. He opened his eyes, but the room was enveloped in darkness. The moon had just begun its new cycle, shrugging out of its full body like a discarded silk robe. No shadows danced on the walls. No indication of time could be collected. He looked over at Merriell, but his eyes wouldn’t adjust.
Then he heard it again. Desperate. “Gene.”
Gene sat up, threw the covers off, then adjusted his legs so he could sit on his knees beside Merriell. He had to be careful. Many were killed for waking a sleeping soldier too suddenly.
I tag @neverendingstories00 (whenever you feel up to it, I know things are stressful!), @theverakeller (Bending the rules slightly to allow for 7 lines you’d like to put on a giftset or something :3), @mariamegale (I see you over there with your gorgeous Baberoe content *eyes emoji*)

The spectacular @thisonesatellite tagged me in this, thank you so much, my dear! Sorry it’s taken so long!
It’s kinda similar to the last one I did, but narrowing it down some more? Oh boy! And I decided to make it harder for myself and choose different movies than before. 😅
If I could only watch 5 movies for the rest of my life what would they be? And what is my favorite movie snack?
Aladdin (either version)
The MCU movies (I’m taking a page out of Stephanie’s book and going for them all!)
The Emperor’s New Groove
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Om Shanti Om
Favorite movie snack: popcorn or some type of candy

BEFORE COLORING VS AFTER COLORING
tagged by: @youmissedthewholeshow thanks bby (sorry its taken me like a month) ❤️❤️❤️
so i guess i do the basic exposure, brightness/contrast and vibrance adjustments to start with?? then it really depends on what the scene is from... personally im a big fan of vibrancy, so i just figure out what i want the colors to look like and most of the time that just means bringing out the background colors and making it pop
then i just go wild and abuse the hell out of the selective color settings?? but sometimes (like the middle gifs) i play around with a photo filter to add more color that you’re just not getting from the selective color. i have literally no system for using photo filter, sometimes it works and other times it does, i just play around until i find what works!!
once ive got those main colors sorted i usually add a second lot of exposure, brightness/contrast and vibrance, and play around a little with curves to finish it off. oh and selective color on blacks is a classic to help make it all pop a bit more, and i usually only put it up a lil bit and that does the trick
