I have been asked many times why I so strongly advocate for mental health, and it really comes down to this photo. The original is bright, filled with color, with new life. This one shows the same life, bursting through every leaf and raindrop and inch of soil. But it's in black and white. Where's the greens and the terracotta reds and the sweet lilac purples? Going through any mental diagnosis, anomaly, or even suicidal thought can be as numbing as a life without color. But it's so often overlooked that just because the color seems to be gone, doesn't mean that the life is gone too. Because of the cacophony of sounds and pains, it's easy to shut everything and everyone out. But it's so much more freeing to share your pain with someone that wants to help. That wants to show you that you are still worth living and that you can see color again. See joy and laughter and dreams achieved. And that's why I do what I do.
