Hello all! I am bringing you tonight’s highlight post for Launchpad Night in the Duckblr Movie Nights server. It was an exciting night, shoutout to @writebackatya for making it amazing like always!

The short we watched at the beginning had a character named Ben that was a buzzard and acted like Pete. Truly our worst nightmare

Everyone sobbed over Drake and Gosalyn during Darkly Dawns the Duck and Let’s Get Dangerous, naturally

Taurus Bulba being more unhinged but also lamer in DWD than in DT17

Me, as a self proclaimed DT17 veteran, telling everyone about how people shipped Launchpad and Jim before The Duck Knight Returns, then backtracking like hell once that episode aired

We talked about how Mark Beaks was gay for Gizmoduck, and I shocked a lot of people by pointing out the scene in Who is Gizmoduck where you can see him making ship names for them (well Frank Angones said they weren’t ship names but it’s funnier to describe it that way so I’m ignoring Frank on that one)

We kept saying “KISS” during a lot of Drakepad scenes in The Duck Knight Returns, especially when they fought in Drake’s trailer

A bit of swan talk, specifically if Selene was one like Boorswan

Everyone agreeing that Gosalyn should kill more (I said “GET HIS ASS” at least 5 times)

Every time Drake said ‘let’s get dangerous’, at least one or two people would go “HE SAID THE THING”

Missy, Duckblr’s only lover of Negaduck and Bradford, missed seeing Negaduck by like 5 minutes but saw a bit of Bradford

We did another Missy thirst count and a keen gear count, however I did not keep up with either as I was compiling moments for this post

Bonus: this image I made after The Duck Knight Returns and everyone complaining how Negaduck never appeared again

Also as much as I like the DT 17 designs, they did Bushroot so dirty. I know the reasoning as to why he looks the way he does but I wished they kept him as the funny, lil' plant-man-thing that he was :(

I AGREE so hard, Anon!!!!! On one hand, I do like the design they gave him. I know why they did it. On the other, the POTENTIAL WAS SO LOST. I think right before the episode came out, I explored a design that was sort of a mix between mine and the one the DT17 crew came up with. He was meant to be un-zombified/rejuvenated by water. Because a lot of people in a server I was in at the time were talking about the idea and I found it very cute.

But I didn't really enjoy drawing him that way so I scrapped it as soon as I drew it and then I got to work on the screenshot redraw instead.

i really admire the sam and max fandom for staying alive for years without new content, just making content themselves. i even try to make new fancontent for ttc, for several months every day if i have no other hyperfixation at the moment, but after a while it just gets so exhausting. especially when others don't post as much, so there ends up being like 10 new fanarts per month from casual fans, and a couple posts from the same 5 fans who are hyperfixated on it, that post it all in one week then who knows when it will be the next time for them to post again

i always end up taking breaks from the fandom and the characters because of that, and usually go back when i have the energy to be hyperfixated on it again. i just wish there was new content already :(

there are so many cool implications from Ryan and Min-Gi writing a song about the train in the eighties. Passengers, especially people like Grace and Tulip who boarded and disembarked completely alone, would hear this song that probably stayed popular because it resonated with so many people, will hear this piece of pop culture by a famous band and realize they’re not alone. People who come from this traumatic experience and feel uprooted and lost find something that they can identify with. Imagine passengers who have never heard the song hearing it all of a sudden. Imagine passengers who’ve heard it here and there, maybe when their parents are playing music, suddenly listening with their full attention. Imagine passengers who’ve been fans of the band and the song suddenly seeing something that’s special to them in a whole new light.

Maybe a lot of passengers, after having this grand realization, would write to Chicken Choice Judy. Maybe the first letter comes when they’re still a small-time band playing in clubs and parties. It leaves Min-Gi and Ryan in tears, because they made an impact, because someone like them is listening to this music they’ve poured their heart and souls into from something they can’t talk to anyone about and someone heard them. And then maybe the letters keep coming, and coming, and coming, and they haven’t stopped even now, forty years later. Maybe Chicken Choice Judy probably gets a lot of fanmail, and the employee that sorts them always knows to set aside any letters that are just a little bit off.

Maybe passengers, especially when they’re fresh off the train and have just discovered the train messages in Chicken Choice Judy’s music, flock to concerts for the chance to see this impossibility in person. Maybe Ryan and Min-Gi always get a couple nervous fans backstage, desperate to talk to someone who knows what they’ve gone through. And maybe, whether they make it to Ryan and Min-Gi or not (since statistically, there’s no way every passenger would make their way backstage) they find someone at the concert with a familiar haunted expression, or they look at each other and immediately feel a sense of solidarity and understanding. Maybe, without even meaning to, Min-Gi and Ryan lay the foundations for this secret community of former passengers.

And if so, in the modern day of the internet, there’s no way this experience would be limited to concerts. Maybe there are fanpages and social media tags connected to the band, but when non-passengers find it, they feel left out and ignorant somehow. Maybe there are discord servers for the group that need a special passcode, like a train emoji, to access all the channels. Maybe there are private subreddits and instagram accounts that simply say they’re a fan of chicken choice Judy in the bio, and have a picture of One-One as the header. Entire communities for former passengers, hidden entirely in plain sight.

Of course, there’s no way not even one person would notice. Maybe there’s a quiet conspiracy theory floating around among Chicken Choice Judy fans - that there’s something decidedly weird going on with a train. But it never circulates far, because, oddly enough, articles keep getting edited and posts keep getting deleted. No one can ever find the source, and you didn’t hear it from me, but it’s probably because enough former passengers are situated in high enough places to make a difference.

Maybe Chicken Choice Judy’s infinity train imagery inspires other former passengers to subtly slip trains into their work. Maybe the train motif surpasses Chicken Choice Judy until not every passenger even attributes it to them anymore. Maybe the use of trains as symbolism for change, loss, and growth becomes a cultural staple. Maybe other artists try and put it into their work, but it always feels wrong. No one can figure out why some works with the train motif do so well, and why some fail and die.

And all this because two kids just wanted to make music together.

Poe’s fate is incredibly tragic. when Scrooge suggested (a mere suggestion!) that Magica’s connection to Poe was holding her back, she immediately threw him under the bus and stole his magic, rendering him useless for the entire fight. Yet when she was in peril, he jumped in front of her with no hesitation. I don’t doubt that Magica reciprocated Poe’s care for her, but he doesn’t get to see her reaction and her anguish. Poe’s last memory of Magica is her stealing his magic and his livelihood in order to become more powerful herself. god, that hurts.

I apologize if I've been inactive on any of my social media accounts today. These past 24-ish hours have been… disheartening for me to say the least. Devastating even.

The news about the LGBT Duck Zine was certainly an eye-opener, if not, a gut punch. I will not lie: I wanted to cry myself to sleep last night because what @/lechepop did was a huge betrayal to many fans, myself included. I may not have been a participator or a donator, but I loved seeing all the artwork that was made for the zine. It gave the impression that this was a fun way for artists within the DT community to create LGBT-inclusive artwork and donate to a good cause. On top of that, I honestly have never heard a single thing about Mick and the project's true colors until last night. I suppose one reason is I got back into watching DuckTales back in October last year; I thankfully may have not been around during any of the drama/discourse from the first two seasons, especially during the second season's September episode bomb, but it still doesn't change how terrible I feel just from learning every single detail.

The behavior Mick has displayed is something I cannot and will not forgive. They have a huge following within the DT17 community, both from a fan and crew member perspective, and they know that. Their toxicity is a damagable breach of trust to everyone and I highly doubt it'll be repaired. Malicious mistreatment towards those participating, unprofessional mismanagement of the zine, manipulative and draining friendships, anti-black microagressions/black fetishization, and blatant disrespect towards the DT17 crew are among the many things I do not condone. Them lying about their age also doesn't give them a free pass to do disgusting shit like this. To put it simply, they took everyone who looked up to them for granted. They have showcased how vile they truly are over the past few years without any remorse on how it'll impact others emotionally and mentally. They were given multiple opportunities to change… and they blew every single one.

Words cannot describe how furious, saddened, and betrayed I feel by this revelation.

*sad sigh* I feel like a naïve fool for admiring them in the first place… Then again… when haven't I been naïvely foolish? I used to like SquigglyDigg's artwork and animations, but I've been avoiding her altogether lately upon learning about her bigoted nature. This lowkey/highkey feels like a repeat of that. Have I learned absolutely nothing from this past experience?… Is this what I get for not being aware of Mick's demeanor throughout the 11 months of me being a full-fledged DT17 fan?… Is ignorance not always blissful?…

I'm sorry, everyone. This situation has been on my mind and I needed to get it out of my system. There is no way something as serious as this is going to be swept under the rug. In the meantime, I would like to give my sincerest condolences to:

• all the participants. None of you deserve to go through such harmful and even traumatizing experiences from them and I'm proud of you all for speaking out about it.

• all the donators. It is absolutely sickening every single buck from the $4,000 raised over the course of two runs NEVER got donated.

• @suspendersofdisbelief and @samkingsketches. I know the two of you kindly contributed to Vol. 2 and it makes me sad your contributions are ingrained in a project as controversial as this one. I also don't want to begin talking about the pictures they drew that included you, Frank, because the descriptions of them alone are absolutely egregious.

• the DT17 crew. They had ZERO right to spoil episodes that hadn't aired at the time in their Discord server without your consent, including twisting moments that occurred in certain episodes like "Astro B.O.Y.D.!" to make them sound scarier.

For everyone who isn't fully aware of the current situation, I recommend you check out @DropTheZine on Twitter. I also implore you to donate your money directly to the Trevor Project, as well as any of the hundreds of the black LGBT+ crowdfunding campaigns and charities.
