My Defense of Violets Paradox Pokémon

So maybe it’s just my feeds and timelines but it seems people are really negative about the future paradox pokemon

Essentially calling them just robot version of their main counterpart

And as someone who liked Miraidon over Koraidon since announcement I feel the need to defend their existence lol

My quick summarized point is that Pokémon aren’t just animals and the future paradoxes reminds me more of the cyborg or robot companions in other media whether droids like r2-d2 in Star Wars or Cyborg in Teen titans and in those ways they can be better than just having a pet animal like Pokémon

From what I gather part of the dislike of the future paradox pokemon is mainly lack of change design wise, that they no longer appear as the animal companion certain people enjoy a lot, and they don’t make sense

Design wise

People feel they just put a metallic shine over them whereas the Scarlet paradoxes stand out more

And I think it’s either both or neither

You can say they just put a metallic shine over them but I can just say they made one part of the scarlet paradoxes more exaggerated like flutter wing just has bigger eyebrow wing things, scream tail made the hair ok jigglypuff long that it’s a tail, roaring moon a more feral mega salamence

Just as without scarlet paradoxes you can point out the notable ones like how Slither wings is on the ground

Can say similar things for something like Iron Valiant and how it mixes Gardevoir and Gallade

And obviously some are more standoutish like the recent paradox beasts

With violets paradox’s the thing is less than the scarlets is that the silhouette is the same as their originals

Iron moths might have disconnected solar panels as wings but it still has the same shape as Volcorona

Iron Bundle head can almost detach its head and its tail bag is now like a gun but silhouette the same as Delibird

Because it’s partly why Brute Bonnet is one of the least popular ones

But lastly for this point I think people pick and choose as people love Iron Thorns because of Tyranitars connection go Godzilla but Iron Thorns is one the ones that is most like it’s original Pokémon but then say theIron Swords are lazy saying it’s mostly just the same

Companions

Even though Pokémon are literally pocket monsters most seem to see them more as animals for one reason or another

This ties into the Pokémon are seen as pets narrative to a good number of fans and its like similar logic to why some don’t evolve their cute little *insert cute pokemon* and they would want ___ as a pet like how people like different breeds of cats and dogs and such

And it’s partly why people don’t like a lot of object Pokémon like garbodor, the vanilite line etc…

And while scarlet paradoxes just exaggerate the pokemon features

Violets mskes them closer to the object mons that some fans dislike

This is subjective of course it’s like asking whats better Piplup or Garchomp, one person might say Piplup due to the anime, cute design and etc but another might pick Garchomp because of competitive pokemon and how cool it looks

But I kinda view violets paradoxes to when people are friends or friendly to the non-human characters in sci-fis

Like in star wars the droids like r2-d2 and c3po are like pets but also have a companion feel to them that you can argue more along the lines of they’re slaves but that’s another discussion

In other media a character can become a cyborg or android and sure they might not look the same ans maybe have visible metal or etc but I think theyre just as much companions as a cute furry animal if not more depending on context

Back to star wars it’s like saying would you rather have R2D2 or loth cat (rebels). I think while loth cats might be cuter i would much rather have R2

Making sense?

Even though it’s in the name of paradox, people still don’t understand or can comprehend why the Pokémon are “robots”

As the branding is past and future versions, scarlet’s can get away being prehistoric due to things like fossils, regional forms and the Hisuian forms, let alone other things like Mega evolution

Where future paradoxes are more like cyborgs which has different implications

First the future paradox Pokémon are still living creatures as they can eat and such, robots implies they’re not alive, it’s small but does mean something when you consider characters like Cyborg in DC, 18 in DBZ and etc as cyborgs as they’re not robots hence why 18 can have a kid

I think the issue is people look at a Pokémon like Iron Treads and wonder how did Donphan go from this to that

Where with scarlet most can just be explained that they got more domesticated or natural evolution and etc

And honestly both options don’t sound great as it’s either Donphans were “enhanced” to the point of looking robotic or evolution made everything resemble robots and as a human that’s disconcerting to see natural/organic stuff disappear

But I think this is where the paradox part comes in as paradox aren’t just Pokémon from the past and future but different timelines and dimensions

Paradoxes can come from a world where it is as dark as it can sound or they can come from a place where everything was always that way or anything you can think of

Generally I think people are more worried and hesitant about cyborgs than cavemen for comparison which ties into the current AI dilemma irl but again different discussion

So that’s my rambling of a defense for Violets paradoxes

I didn’t even go into the types and how the names aren’t as big of a deal since a lot of machine inspired keep it consistent like how an iPhone is iPhone 15 or IPhone X or IPhone SE, iPhone is the equivalent or Iron here but oh well

I’m not quite done with the dlc yet in Violet as I haven’t discovered Iron Crown and Boulder yet for reference so maybe my point will change when I get more information on the paradox pokemon

New rule: if they met the person and the person guided them through normal life after they escaped a traumatic situation and have known that person for as long as they have had the opportunity to be an independent individual- especially if the person was theirone friend for a while- , these two do not end up romantically together in the end.

HCs for my favorite bad guys

They’re my blorbos?? scrunglies?? idk what they are your honor but i love them.

Anyways they’re not a lot b u t

I hc that Darius is the son of an abusive minor lord who ran away from home and found his way into thievery

Therion is better than him at it because 1) more practice 2) actually blessed by Aeber

B u t Therion has no manners and can’t read or write

And Darius is the one who teaches him these things

How to stand up properly, talk properly, be able to talk to people without pissing them off. Eat and drink without looking like an animal. Read and write.

And in turn he learns how to lift with his knees, not back. Best ways around town, best ways to tail people, get away from people, step softly, move silently

Not that he already didn’t know how to do the last two. But Therion walks like he’s floating and Darius doesnt. So he learns to do better.

It’s why their relationship was pretty good at first. Therion didn’t know math and division well. Do a few coins missing here or there wouldn’t be noticed. And Darius had things he wanted from Therion.

And Therion listened to Darius because he was learning from him.

But when they became more equal, things went sour, because they both knew better now.

Therion can count the missing coins. And he no longer listens to Darius as much.

I’m here stuck with Darius holding theiron’s hand teaching him how to write letters

It warms my heart

Also the idea that Darius’ father was the lord of northreach and he comes back later with his gang and kills him : )

Shows how the cycle continues and the parallels with therion and gareth

The cycle continues but Therion breaks it, but it still does continue via Gareth

I like the idea of Darius taking a shine to Gareth and teaching him, too, but Gareth is more obedient. Until it takes Gareth’s life.

Because by then Darius is a “lord” and he’s as every bit as bad as his father.

I like to also think that Gareth was the one teaching the others in the gang the things he’s learned

And that’s why they care about him and not about Darius

Festering grudge for Gareth’s death

And he loses all their respect after he loses to Therion : )

This is the time I need to admit that I hc Miguel having been raised by his older sister

And that he was an older teen when she married and her husband threw him out

Yes this is important for later

yeah, and then he joined werner's group and/or the obsidians, then ran away, then became a brigand, then the game...

Was he a thief or a vilgilante? Thats a question, Therion would consider himself more of a thief, stealing more to eat and have some money over just in case. But he wasn’t one to take from people who hadn’t much themself. And more often then not ending up helping people in need, which probaly is where the vigilante part came from.

This also how he finds himself jump from roof, down the street over a gate running from something - that happens when you try to help. Okay, maybe he had also stolen something but who gonna miss a apple or two..or a few coins.

“ A dog ?!” and he fall to the ground as the dog jump onto his back.

Like wu xie just got knocked out and he fed wu xie some of his blood to help him recover and? This is like some reverse vampire stuff

Which I guess in a way makes sense since like. Isn’t Xiaoge immortal? But not an undead immortal, just an alive immortal, so like maybe instead of his blood turning people into the undead immortal a vamps does, they help give people his longevity temporarily??

Gilderoy/Auguste, but it’s a modern AU, and they’re agents to models--

It’s pure chance they work together. It’s not as unhinged as it sounds I promise--

Thanks to a typo with @softboiled-doomdesire, I had the plot bunny of Therion and Millard being models, and Gilderoy and Auguste are their agents.

Gilderoy is Millard’s agent. He’s too easy going for Millard’s tastes. Millard is super studious about his job, especially since he books a lot of charity events.

Auguste is Therion’s agent. Therion likes his job, is excellent at it, but Auguste is super into details. What Therion eats, when he sleeps, what he wears, what he says online, what apps he has, etc. He is overbearing and super stifling.

It’s pure chance they work together.

Millard worked hard to get that job, as Gilderoy almost missed the deadline.

Therion doesn’t really wanna be there. He doesn’t care for the whole charity thing, but Auguste insists on it.

So they’re both stressed when they get in there.

Millard reaches out first, tries to talk to Therion, and is rebuffed.

But Therion talks to him after he sees how batty Gilderoy drives Millard.

He’s snarky, but they talk, a little bit of good humor between them.

While they’re doing the show, they notice that, with any bit of downtime, their agents keep chatting each other up.

By the end of the show, Gilderoy is absent, which isn’t new, but Auguste is also absent, something Therion marvels at.

They find them both with each other, chatting, and Millard goes to interrupt but Therion grabs him and tells him to hang on.

Let them have a break from their agents for a bit.

Millard agrees. They chat, and time passes as they air out their grievances with their agents. And Therion comments that they look like they’re having fun. Millard agrees, though he personally recognizes the flirty look Gilderoy is giving Auguste.

And Therion says that’s a good thing, because maybe Auguste will loosen up a little. He nudges Millard and says maybe it’ll make Gilderoy shape up, too.

Millard admits that it might work. So Therion encourages that line of thought and says they should do another show together. See if they still get along. It’ll be a good incentive for Gilderoy, wouldn’t it? And isn’t it nice to have free time like this?

Millard agrees. They both decide to talk to their agents about doing another show together.

In the meantime... They sit and chat, play on their phones, and just relax.

Therion is a surprisingly fun person to hang out with.

Once they’re ready to interrupt their agents, they exchange numbers and do so.

Gilderoy is sheepish, like “caught red handed” sheepish, while Auguste plays it cool.

Millard talks to Gilderoy about working with Theiron again. Theiron talks with Auguste and finds him surprisingly open to the idea.

Agents convinced, they wind up in a photoshoot together.

One in which their agents are so obviously fully distracted by each other.

So they do it again. And again. And very quickly, their agents don’t need to be told to work together anymore.

They automatically do it.

And soon enough, Auguste is going out for “business meetings,” which Gilderoy calls dates.

Therion gets the freedom he wanted, because Auguste is too busy.

And Millard gets the proactivity he wanted, as Gilderoy is doing his best to keep up Auguste’s schedule.

(And it helps in the long run, as he becomes more organized in general)

And their agents are so distracted by each other, they seem to disappear from the sets sometimes.

Therion catches them once, heatedly making out in a secluded spot, and records a bit, just in case he needs to get Auguste off his back later.

Millard chastises him for it but he doesn’t delete it.

Therion starts to date his crush, something he wanted but was unable to do it before.

Millard does way more charity work.

Months pass, Therion and Millard text often, and Therion constantly teases that Gilderoy is in love, which Millard denies, because Gilderoy doesn’t fall in love

After a while, Therion starts talking about wanting to quit modeling, to maybe get another job and move in with his now long term bf.

It’s going well for him, until one day, Auguste snaps down at him hard, and he’s back to the overbearing monitoring.

On his end, Millard has noticed that Gilderoy is... sad. Distant. He’s got a look in his eyes that’s partially haunted, partially terrified, and he seems completely out of it.

Therion, once he can get on the phone in peace again, gripes that something is wrong because Auguste keeps staring sadly at his phone when he thinks no one is looking.

And when Millard shares about things on his end, he asks Millard to get to the bottom of it, because he can’t.

Millard snoops a little, mostly looking at Gilderoy’s phone over his head, and notices that Gilderoy is not answering Auguste’s texts.

He tries to talk to him about it, but Gilderoy refuses to talk.

It doesn’t help that suddenly, all the shoots Therion and Millard were supposed to do together are canceled on Millard’s end.

They’re driving back from a job weeks later, when Gilderoy says he wants to pull out of a charity event. This one is big. It’s the one Millard never skips out on. He goes to it yearly.

It’s also a charity event where Auguste will be there for sure, since the invitations went out ages ago.

And Millard knows that Gilderoy is avoiding Auguste...

Meh threatens to quit there and then if they don’t go.

Gilderoy doesn’t want that, but is thoroughly unable to talk him out of it. And after some back and forth, Millard asks exactly what happened between them.

Gilderoy finally answers and tells Millard about what happened

Did he know that Auguste was married with a kid?

Millard replies no, and mentally notes to yell at Therion for suggesting they set up his agent, who is married, with someone.

Gilderoy goes on to explain how he found out, with Franssca coming at him, calling him a homewrecker, and he looks genuinely distraught as he talks.

And Millard tries to comfort him but everything he says seems to make it worse.

In the end he tries with “well, this can be a lesson, at least. it’s a good thing you don’t fall in love—”

But Gilderoy gives him the most heartbroken look and he realizes that Gilderoy is in love. “Oh.”

He feels so guilty.

So he confesses everything, from his first meeting with Therion until now.

Gilderoy listens, then laughs and swears, wiping tears away.

He asks if Millard and Therion are least friends. Millard says they are.

Gilderoy swears again, rests his head on the driving wheel and stays there until he can collect himself.

He sits up, says fine, they’ll go to the charity event, but to understand that Gilderoy won’t be himself there.

Millard agrees.

And as soon as he’s able to, he texts Therion and very sternly asks him why he decided to set his MARRIED agent up with someone.

Theiron texts back with ???? He’s not married.

They text back and forth and they realize what happened--or rather, Therion tells Millard what he knows. Frasesca used to be a model, with Auguste her agent, until she seduced him, which got her pregnant. They’re not together and never have been, but Auguste stays in touch to be a father to Mikhail.

Then Therion confesses that his phone had gone missing and Mikhail had handed it back to him, and he never deleted the recording he had of Gilderoy and Auguste making out, so she likely saw it…

And Millard concludes that she likely lied to Gildeory, or gave him the impression in some way or the other that she and Auguste were married.

And now both men are suffering because they need to talk. These adults need to talk. But Gilderoy is avoiding Auguste. And Auguste seems to have given up.

But then. Millard gets a terrible gremlin idea.

What if, say, they lock those two men up together in a small room? Force them to talk.

The place the charity takes place at has a room that had a broken lock until last year, where the Lock was incorrectly installed with the lock on the outside.

It’s a small enough room that it’s used as a storage room.

Say... how good is therion’s acting?

At the charity, Gilderoy is a mess of nerves. Millard acts like he doesn’t see it. He goes off to mingle with the crowds and talk to people and discreetly checks that 1) the lock is still installed incorrectly and 2) it’s got enough space to hold two men there.

Once he’s satisfied, he signals Therion, and the two of them rush off.

Theiron goes to Auguste, looking mildly panicked, and says that Gilderoy’s out cold, he’s not waking up— he can’t find Millard either what does he do—

Auguste’s heart is in his throat as he tells Therion to take him to Gilderoy. Therion holds his hand and runs, pushing thru the crowd.

He leads the way towards the closet and Auguste realizes it’s sus, but before he can say anything, Therion and Millard shove him into the closet.

Gilderoy is there. Millard had asked him for help grabbing a box. The old lady helping with the catering needed more supplies, and could Gilderoy help him grab the second box?

So he’s in there already, a box in hand, when Auguste falls on top of him. He catches himself before he drops the box or hits his head on the shelves.

And by the time they straighten up, the door is locked and the boys have run away.

Gilderoy still tries pounding on the door a few times, gets no answer, and wants to kick the door down, but...

Auguste watches him silently.

It’s awkward for a moment, until Auguste asks Gilderoy why he pulled away.

And they talk. Gilderoy is surprised at how emotional he is about this.

But he’s finally willing to listen.

At the event floor, Therion asks when they should let them out. Millard says that Gilderoy will kick the door down when they’re done talking.

They’ll either be angry, or happy and trying to be angry. That’s how they’ll find out how it went.

... Gilderoy and Auguste don’t come out until the last half hour of the party.

Their clothes are a mess, they both look tired, neither can stop smiling, even if they are trying to hide it.

(They absolutely fucked in there, yeah)

And if Gilderoy reaches out and holds Auguste’s hand the rest of the night, both of them trying to hide an ecstatic smile, well.

Millard and Therion don’t comment.

Therion does wear a shit eating grin the entire time tho lmao

Some time passes. Auguste sets down hard boundaries with Fransesca.

And as soon as that clears, he and Gilderoy move in together.

Therion quits shortly after to move in with his bf

Millard refuses to let Auguste manage him, and Auguste has to scout another model.

I’m thinking.... Scarecrow or Theo, so that Millard can fall hard and fast :3c

And that’s that!
