Earth Never Stops - Part 1 - Oreburgh Mines
Summary: Oreburgh Mine is Sinnoh’s only remaining source of coal and, as such, serves as its main source of electricity alongside Flowey Meadows’ countless wind turbines. It contains enough resources for years to come, but what may be more interesting to the casual tourist visiting the region is the presence of fossils in its rocks, waiting to be discovered between two coats of black ore. As such, it requires constant functioning and there has to be someone to manage the miners, right? Well, it works until the main gear fails: the foreman is, after all, only human.
Length: 2.5K words
Notes: Someone will have to smack my head into oblivion so I don't write that kind of shit ever again. I'm sorry for this, even if I know I'll probably continue to write it beyond reason. Let's hope this isn't the new Symphonie Cacophonie lmao The OCs are cameos of my PDV characters Luc Parillot (Luke) and Timothée "Tim" Ethan (Timothy).Huge thanks to Magnetism and their Auraverse, whose Roark's been an inspiration for my own interpretation of the character. http://archiveofourown.org/works/10698855 It's some good stuff so please check it out, it's worth a read much more than what you're about to read because it has more plot than, essentially, "mine sickfic".I have to expose some headcanons and stuff which count in this story: -I headcanon the Nurse Joy who appears in this as a "doctor" because she can also diagnose humans. Such a famous mine would have at least a bit of security, wouldn't it? -I know Machop is used for mining in the games, but I also added Geodude because it's literally a punching rock who can learn Rock Smash. -I don't know what a foreman does in a mine despite living in the north of France and having seen mine history here and there. Turns out having once visited a terril and Roubaix's La Piscine museum isn't enough to make you versatile in mining history and functioning. Hell, I even had to Google what a foreman was because I'm that terrible.Writing got me thinking: can you get OOC a character who doesn't have much dialogue in their original material?

Oreburgh Mine is Sinnoh’s only remaining source of coal and, as such, serves as its main source of electricity alongside Flowey Meadows’ countless wind turbines. It contains enough resources for years to come, but what may be more interesting to the casual tourist visiting the region is the presence of fossils in its rocks, waiting to be discovered between two coats of black ore.
As such, it requires constant functioning and there has to be someone to manage the miners, right? The role goes to the foreman, who is always up. In any case, there’s a substitute, but he’s usually not in Oreburgh City since the foremen seems to have an iron health. Someone working in the mines would joke that their previous foreman eventually became Canalave City’s Iron-type Gym Leader.
The following and current foreman is the youngest they’ve had yet. Byron used to bring his son to the mine from time to time since the latter was a child, and some of the eldest miners remembered seeing a newly born Roark, twenty years before. It was like he was born with a pickaxe in his hands, and he was already excavating fossils when he was in elementary school. What was once a tease of Byron, “your son is gonna replace you before we know it”, became reality when the foreman left Oreburgh City for Canalave City, called by the League themselves to take care of its Gym after its previous Leader had retired.
Nobody was really surprised when the boy, the eighteen-year-old boy mind you, was picked by Byron as his successor. It was as if they had always been around Roark, and it had “only” been a bit more than a decade, but the transition felt natural. It didn’t mean he didn’t remain in the shadow his father, foreman for twenty years before him, to whom the miners were all attached, and some considered him their own father, in some way.
The foreman sub’s been missing for the twenty-fifth week in a row. “Where in the hell could he be?” isn’t a real question in the mines anymore: it’s more of a private joke. A question nobody really cares for the answer, and usually it’s replaced by the latest, funniest place to put in a conversation. Last time, it was someone’s ass. Maybe comedy isn’t their forte, but as long as it makes the other miners laugh, it’s all right.
Today, Luke is asking the question to Tim, who simply replies “In Canalave’s Gym, right where Former Boss lost to a ten-year old girl and her Gastrodon”. Tim then shots a look in their current foreman’s direction, only to notice he doesn’t even cringe at the teasing of his own dad.
“Boss,” Tim calls out, “you heard me? Your dad lost to a Gastrodon of everything. How ridiculous is that?”
“Oh, right,” the foreman responds with delay, “that’s right. Gastrodon. Canalave Gym.” He forces a snicker out of his mouth.
“How’s the Gym going?” Luke asks. It’s been ages since he’s taken a break in the Gym. Last time, he got to see a blonde-haired girl beat the Gym with a Turtwig and a Starmie of everything.
“It’s going… well I guess. I broke my latest lose streak yesterday…”
Luke and Tim look at each other. The former shots another look at Roark while the second one orders their Machops to work a bit on their own for now. Once they both thumb up each other, they get closer just so they can speak about stuff their foreman shouldn’t hear them talking about.
“There’s something wrong about the boss,” Luke tells him in a whisper. “He’s quieter than usual.”
“He may just be tired,” Tim replies, almost shrugging off Luke’s worried expression. “The boy’s also a Gym Leader and whatnot.”
“I could have sworn he was usually the first one to make jokes about how busy his life is. He doesn’t even bother with our jokes today!”
“Your dad instincts are playing again. This isn’t your daughter we’re speaking about, it’s the boss. Byron’s blood runs in his veins, he’s fine.”
Tim still looks at their foreman. His own face doesn’t seem as confident in his beliefs as before.
“On second thought, the boss looks a bit weird. He’s a bit slow too.”
“Right? The sub’s not here though, so he can’t entirely leave us without having another foreman to make sure it’s secure.”
“I don’t want to interrupt you on purpose, but I think he’s looking this way. Let’s go back to work and discuss that after lunch.”
While he mines, Tim stumbles upon what looks like a fossil, a weird one of that. He swears he has never seen such a fossil before, despite having worked there for twenty years. His scientist of a husband walks behind him.
“Mark,” he calls him out, “come check out that fossil. I don’t think I’ve seen one like that before.”
The scientist walks to the rock and examines it carefully with his gloves and glasses.
“It’s a Helix Fossil. They’re usually found in Kanto, but there are some in the Underground. It’s very rare to see such a big one in a mine.”
“What about we tell the boss? I’m sure he’s going to lost it in front of it!”
“I’ll let you get him then.”
That’s what Tim does. He goes the fastest he can to his foreman, who’s in another part altogether of the mine, probably making sure the Machops trained to dig alone do their job correctly and safely. He swears he can hear some pants and maybe some coughing echoing between the rocky walls. Finding him and his red hard hat isn’t difficult, and it doesn’t take long for the miner to join his “boss”.
“Boss, Boss, I found something incredible! Come check it out!” he screams in the mine, getting the attention of Pokémons around him.
“What is it…?” a weak voice replies to him, as the foreman turns towards him. His helmet isn’t put on correctly, which is weird for someone as cautious as him on security for everyone inside the mine.
“I found a very rare fossil according to Mark. I thought I should at least tell you so you can check it out later.”
“Works for me… Oh, if you’re here, can you check out on the other miners for me a bit? Tell them I’ll check up on them once I’m done here…”
“Sure thing, Boss.”
“Thank you…”
Tim finally gets what Luke meant earlier. He would ask him if he was alright, or something alike, but he has a job to do and the boss probably doesn’t like to be bothered with such questions. He’s probably just tired and focused on whatever he’s doing. He’s a bit hesitant to get to his previous working spot, but he still makes his way there.
Suddenly, he feels something grapping his pants. He looks at what could possibly be clutching his leg: a Geodude. Wait, this can’t be a wild Geodude, there isn’t any wild Pokémon left in that zone of the mine. The fluorescent band it has around its left arm immediately tells him it belongs to the boss. It seems to cry for help.
Tim lowers to the rock Pokémon’s level.
“What is it, big guy?” he asks it.
Geodude points to the back of this section of the mine with its other arm, its face void of its usual anger, replaced with worry. What can it possibly be worried for? This doesn’t reassure the miner at all.
“You want me to follow you there?”
The Rock-type Pokémon jumps around a bit as it lets go of his pants before starting to make his way to where they both come from. Tim decides to follow: there may be someone trapped under rocks that fell, or there may be an Aron they need to take care of.
He decides to run back there instead of walking, as he’s afraid someone got jeopardized. On the way there, he recognizes the specially-trained Machops looking a bit panicked, just like the Geodude he’s following. This doesn’t sit well within him: the only person he’s seen there for a while is Roark. If their foreman has found death between rocks, they’re pretty much fucked for the remaining century. They’ll probably all get fired too. He doesn’t realize he’s crossing fingers.
The Geodude, unfortunately, brings him where he spoke to his boss barely minutes ago. The lack of light, which he finds weird because it was lit just fine before, makes it so he has to turn on his own helmet’s headlight. He can hear the usual sound of pants, something entirely ordinary in itself, aside form the fact he’s never heard these pants in particular. This can’t be good at all.
The miner stops right in his track as the Geodude goes next to the person lying on the floor of the mine. This can’t be possible. He must be in some kind of weird dream, and he has to find a way to wake up. He still runs to the lying body, just like the Pokémon before him.
“Boss?!” he yells as he kneels next to the other man. “Hey, Boss, this isn’t time to sleep! You gotta wake up, this is a mine!”
Tim puts a hand on his shoulder and shakes it off in an attempt to wake the guy up, to no success. He just knows he’s alive: he can hear his breathing, which sounds ragged if not difficult.
“What the fuck do I do…?” Tim says to himself, truly wondering what he can do with an unconscious Roark, the latter’s pickaxe and excavation kit, a Geodude and five autonomous Machops around him. The pickaxe and the kit can wait, really. The Pokémons, a bit less. He just hopes the only idea he has will work…
His foot hits a lone Pokéball which rolls until he grabs it. He finds five of them near it, all marked with a special sticker representing the Coal Badge on them.
“Geodude, come back,” he says as he points the ball towards the Pokémon in question, successfully calling him back. He’s surprised that even worked.
“Guys, you too, come back,” he then says as he points each ball to the Machop group, once again ending in pure success. He puts away the balls in the bag near him before taking it and putting it over his shoulder.
It’s with a pained look and an ache in his heart that he takes his foreman in his arms. He feels incredibly light for a miner: it may be him who is pretty strong, or the boy being a lightweight when he’s unconscious, or just both at the same time. He’ll ask for the guys to get the pickaxe and kit later: for now, there’s something more urgent than recovering some mining tools, no matter how important they are to Roark.
It takes a bit of time, and Tim feels like he’s carrying a statue made out of glass when, clearly, he shouldn’t. He braces himself for everybody else’s reaction: he just hopes it’s not too bad, otherwise they’ll have issues, and nobody wants to cause a coal lack in the entire region, not to mention none of them want harm to their foreman for Arceus’s sake!
He gets to remember it’s noon and lunch time when he reaches his usual zone of work, which is next to the entrance, so not many people are around. The less, the better. However, the nearest infirmary-like area he knows of is already outside of the mines: he has to walk past everyone else to bring their boss where someone can say what exactly happened to him.
Luke spots him from the entrance and runs to him, his own face filled with anything but joy.
“What happened to him?!” he screams, eyes fixated on the carried one.
“I don’t know… I was telling him about the fossil discovery I had made, but as I left his Geodude grabbed my leg and made me follow it, and when I arrived he was already knocked out…” Tim replies. “We don’t have time to waste, I have to bring him somewhere.”
“Wait a second. I need to check something…”
Luke rises the foreman’s helmet a little and puts his naked hand first on his forehead, then on the other man’s one, before almost cringing in a hiss.
“That’s what I thought. He’s running one hell of a fever man.”
“A fever?! He’s been sick all that time?! Quick, we have to run to the infirmary! Inform the others please!”
“Roger that.”
Tim isn’t walking at the speed of a Dunsparce now: no, he’s fucking running for someone else’s life to their infirmary, hoping there’s their usual doctor there. He can trust Dr Taylor to be there, right? She’s always there for them, she’ll be there for Roark too. That’s one unusual case for them all, and he hopes his hardest it’ll be alright.
Honestly, he’s afraid shitless when he kicks the door to knock, his hands obviously unavailable to do so. The pink-haired woman opens the door and she looks like she’s going to scold the hell out of him for kicking the door.
“Hello, Timothy. Why makes you behave like a Growlithe all of a…” she starts to tell him before her voice comes to a halt.
As soon as she sees his face then lowers her eyes, her face takes a sharp turn.
“Oh goodness… Put him on the bed,” she reacts as her thumb points to the inside, “I’ll see what’s wrong.”
He executes her orders and, soon enough, they’re both in the room, looking over the third person in the bed. After taking off the red helmet, he lets her examine his boss, more anxious than he’s been in ages, as she silently works on him.
“What does he have, doctor?” Tim asks.
“It seems like exhaustion and overwork has caught to him,” she replies in a much calmer voice. “He should be all right as long as he rests for a few days.”
“But…”
“Before you say it,” Dr Joy replies in a sadder tone, “I know Mr Roark has a very busy life and probably can’t afford many break days, especially since the summer rush is about to start. However, I can’t let him work when he overworked himself to illness like this.”
“Then, what can we do?”
“We’ll have to see that as soon as possible. I’ll have to call the substitute foreman by myself to justify his suddenly needed presence… Please go take your break, Timothy. Just tell the other miners about the situation, will you?”
“Sure thing. See ya later, Dr Joy.”
“See you.”
Tim can’t shake the situation off his head as he walks to his friends and workmates, lost in thoughts, hoping someone finds a solution real fast unless they all want to get in some serious troubles. The less they see the director of Fuego Inc, the better, especially when Roark isn’t here to discuss the matter with his own boss.
He sits next to Mark and unpacks his lunch as he summarizes the situation, a work already started by Luke. The summery air of early June around them all feels heavy, all of a sudden.

Why Chara Is Evil and You Need To Shut The Fuck Up About Them
So recently I’ve been seeing so many videos, texts, essays and even blogs by the UT Fandom defending Chara, making some of those Character Defense Squads, saying that they’re actually good and that there’s much more to them besides how they’re portrayed in the Genocide Run and it’s honestly becoming a hassle, if not worrying. I am familiar with Tumblr’s habit of going out of its way to look deeper into things just for the sake of erasing an evil character’s traces and dark tendencies and thus turn them into a pure sweetie who did nothing wrong and it’s honestly annoying me. You guys are having sympathy for a character that’s supposed to be a PSYCHOPATH. And before you come saying “Chara is good, the player is responsible for the Genocide Run! The PLAYER is the real villain!”, the hole is a bit lower than that. Just because the player is indeed responsible for the Genocide Run doesn’t mean Chara isn’t evil. Bear with me. Let us begin then. Let’s look into the arguments people use to defend Chara as a “good” character and I will turn them around and, trust me, there’s not much you’ll be able to say to defend them after this because the logic in those arguments are HORRIBLY flawed.
“Chara was only laughing away the pain when Asgore got sick and nearly died after eating that poisoned Butterscotch pie made by them and Asriel!”
While laughing away the pain is a huge theme in Undertale (Hell, Sans does it all the time), I HIGHLY doubt they were laughing at stress. Let’s look into the VHS tape where this situation is mentioned and talked about by Asriel:
Asriel: Howdy, <Name>! Smile for the camera! Ha, this time I got YOU! I left the cap on... ON PURPOSE! Now you're smiling for noooo reason! Hee hee hee. What? Oh, yeah, I remember. When we tried to make butterscotch pie for Dad, right? The recipe asked for cups of butter... But we accidentally put in buttercups instead. Yeah! Those flowers got him really sick. I felt so bad. We made Mom really upset. I should have laughed it off, like you did... Um, anyway, where are you going with this? Huh? Turn off the camera...? OK.
So Asriel playfully tricks Chara, they start laughing and all of a sudden they just remember how they nearly killed their dad along with Asriel, right? In those circumstances and context, it means Chara remembers poisoning Asgore as a prank, something funny to laugh about, the same way purposefully leaving the lens cap on was for Asriel. So, yeah, they weren’t laughing any pain away; they were sadistically laughing at the pain Asgore was in and how probably they were rubbing their hands together while cooking up their little plan to use Asriel to destroy humanity under the guise of “freeing everyone”. This tape also really goes to show how different Asriel and Chara are, as Asriel also mentions how he felt so bad at the incident. I should also mention how Chara smiles creepily at Flowey’s distress when they make him scared of them when he realizes Chara would never hesitate to kill him if he got in their way and they are also shown smiling when we see them for the first time after killing Flowey at the end of the Genocide Run. Also, isn’t it Flowey himself who comments Chara has a "sick sense of humour”? Hell, many many Monsters comment on the protagonist’s “creepy smile” or "strange expression" throughout the Genocide Run, not to mention the =) face that appears instead of the exclamation point (!) atop the protagonist’s head before they fight a monster starting from the Waterfall area is highly associated with Chara. They’re HAPPY to be fighting the Monsters they come across and hunt, they’re happy to kill.
“Chara is clearly uncomfortable with the player the second time they do the Genocide Run”
This argument likely stems from that one line of Chara’s during their monologue if a Genocide Run is done twice:
"But you and I are not the same, are we? This SOUL resonates with a strange feeling. There is a reason you continue to recreate this world. There is a reason you continue to destroy it. You. You are wracked with a perverted sentimentality. Hmm. I cannot understand these feelings anymore."
I’d say “impatient” is the right word, not “uncomfortable”. At this rate, the player’s and Chara’s motives and desires are different. The reason the player continues to recreate and destroy the world is to satisfy their completist desire of wanting to find out every single thing there is to know about Undertale (or any game, for that matter), even if it means traversing the Genocide Run more than once, which is exactly the “perverted sentimentality” Chara is referring to and, considering how much of a real pain in the ass it is to complete it, it’s no surprise that Chara calls such an action “perverted". So they don’t understand you anymore, your desires are not the same anymore. The same is commented by Sans during his fight:
“i know your type. you’re uh, very determined, aren’t you? you’ll never give up, even if there’s uh… absolutely NO benefit to persevering whatsoever. if i can make that clear. no matter what, you’ll just keep going, not out of any desire for good or evil… but just because you think you “can”. and because you “can”… you “have to”…”
Chara on the other hand desires to go out and destroy humanity (and the Monsters, too), which brings me to my next point: The post-Genocide Pacifist Run. Chara is dead and thus lacks a physical body to do anything, so they know the only way to escape the Underground is through Frisk, the character the player controls. Have any of you ever paid attention to what Chara says after what I just put above?
"Despite this. I feel obligated to suggest. Should you choose to recreate this world once more, another path would be better suited."
Chara is suggesting the player “tries another path” and is thus manipulating them into doing the True Pacifist Run so they can go out and destroy both the Humans and the Monsters that now reign the surface.
“Chara didn’t destroy the Humans and Monsters of the surface in a post-Genocide Pacifist Run, they’re bringing justice to the player! They care about the Monsters and is thus punishing the player!”
No, it’s NOT Chara punishing the player, that’s the game itself doing this. One of Undertale’s main messages, especially the Genocide Run, is that your actions have consequences. The only thing that happens at the end of a post-Genocide Pacifist Run (or Soulless Pacifist Run) is that Chara fully possessed Frisk’s body after the player sold them their SOUL and now, with the Barrier separating the Humans from Monsters destroyed, Chara can now go out and destroy both species that live in the Surface. I mean, DAMN, Toby Fox said it himself in his Twitter when asked about the Soulless Pacifist Ending. There is absolutely NO “justice” in Chara’s side. If they were REALLY a good and pure person who loves the Monsters then, well, I’m sure they wouldn’t have to kill them just for rubbing it in the player, right?! Seriously, don’t ANY of you realise how pathetically contradictory this argument is?!
“But Chara is just a child!”
Bitch, have you ever watched two movies called “The Good Son” and “Child of Rage”? Go watch them, your argument is once again invalid. I will also mention how these two children are psychopaths. Also, the youngest arrested and condemned killers of the 20th century were brought to justice when they were both 10 and their names are Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, who kidnapped, tortured and killed 2 year-old James Bulger. So yeah, with real-life evidence, children like Chara are completely capable of being psychopathic murderers.
“Chara is the narrator of Undertale! They nicely narrate every enemy and object to you!”
No, it’s not canon. It’s never said anywhere that they are. The narrator through the ENTIRETY of Undertale is completely up to speculation. Have you ever heard of something called an “omniscient narrator”? Hell, it could be Frisk narrating stuff to you in a Neutral or Pacifist Run. It wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to say it could be the player themselves, considering the amount of 4th Wall Breaks in the game and how Flowey is aware that there’s people that watch gameplays of Undertale out there. The only pieces of narration that are clearly narrated by Chara are the ones in red in New Home in the Genocide Run (which are written in first person). This is also the very same place where Flowey talks about him to Chara the most, should I add. This argument likely exists because the narrator in question is always saying “you did <insert action here>”, in third person as if talking about someone else. Well, the same thing happens in the Genocide Run. There are TONS of entries in the Genocide Run narrated in third person.
“Papyrus is sparing you”
“You punched the dummy at full force. Feels good.”
“Glad Dummy lets you go”
“You took the Snowman Piece”
“You took the key and put it on your phone’s key-chain”
“You feel like you’re gonna have a bad time”
“You feel your sins crawling on your back”
It’s also worth noticing how darker and crueler the narrations both in first and third person get the more the Genocide Run progresses, right? It’s because the more you kill, the more you allow Chara to posses Frisk and the more they can manifest themselves.
“Chara lectures the player when the world is completely destroyed”
Yes, that is true but that still doesn’t make them good, they’re merely acknowledging the reality of the player’s actions. They sound completely cold and stoic saying those words and asking the player if they’re above consequences, which shows they’re neutral about this, not sad or bothered, not to mention it is them who destroy the world REGARDLESS of the player’s choice. I should also remind you that, right after that, the player is left with no choice but to make a literal deal with the devil (as Chara calls themselves “the demon that appears when people call its name”), giving Chara their SOUL as a deal to make them bring the world back. Chara also calls the player a “great partner” if they agree to destroy the world with them so its plausible to think that this is yet another form of manipulation.
“Chara may call themself a demon but Asriel calls himself the ‘God Of Hyperdeath!’"
Exactly. Asriel is the GOD of Hyperdeath. “Of Hyperdeath” is merely a name and a very obvious one, considering Asriel inherited his father’s trait of being terrible at naming things. However, think about this: A God is a creator or recreator, a deity, a divinity. When you look at what he says during his fight, this name makes perfect sense:
“You know, I don’t care about destroying this world anymore. After I defeat you and gain total control of the timeline, I just want to reset everything! Then we can do everything all over again!"
Asriel’s intentions are not remotely bad, even. He does not wish to harm anyone, he only wants to reset the entire timeline and redo what he and Chara did wrong, even if it means killing the protagonist to gain their Determination, for the greater good.
“Chara forgave Asriel for his betrayal!”
Dude, WHERE do people get this from?! Chara clearly DIDN’T forgive Asriel for betraying them and is clearly merciless to him at the end of the Genocide Run. They inclusively mention his betrayal when talking to the player:
“At first, I was so confused. Our plan had failed, hadn’t it?"
When Flowey is talking to Chara in New Home, they make him scared of them the moment he realizes that they would never hesitate to kill him if he got in their way, not to mention Chara is the one to make Flowey realize that his “kill or be killed” philosophy does not work, he knows Chara is much stronger than him. Hell, Chara clearly doesn’t care at all for Asriel as they, not the player, CHARA completely MUTILATES Flowey right when he reveals his true identity as Asriel after killing Asgore in one shot. Also, speaking of which, it is clearly stated on the books in the “Librarby" that the stronger the will to kill a Monster a human has, the more damage their attacks will do. One more thing worth mentioning is this parallel right here which pretty much speaks for itself:
Asriel, in the second True Lab VHS tape: Okay, <Name>, are you ready? Do your creepy face! AHHHHH!! Hee hee hee! Oh! Wait! I had the lens cap on... What!? You're not gonna do it again...? Come on, quit tricking me! Haha!
Flowey, in New Home: S-s-stop making that creepy face! This isn’t funny! You’ve got a SICK sense of humor!
The real thing that goes to show that Chara is evil is their relationship with Asriel/Flowey. Asriel was never comfortable with Chara’s plan, to the point that he cried at the thought of having to hurt or kill anyone. Flowey (who is equally evil), on the other hand, understands and even admires Chara for their murderous genocidal tendencies when he talks to them at the end of the Ruins and in New Home, not to mention Flowey only recognizes the protagonist as Chara if the player is doing the Genocide Run. It’s also worth mentioning that it was because of Chara that Flowey acquired his “kill or be killed” philosophy. Hell, Asriel even comments that Frisk and Chara are completely different from each other despite their very similar fashion choices and that he was only projecting. Hell, he’s the one who admits and recognises that Chara was never the greatest person.
Now on to something to top it all off: The Sociopath Flowey and Psychopath Chara theory. What you’re about to read now is a written adaption of a video in Portuguese explaining that Chara is a psychopath, whereas Flowey is a sociopath.
So, as you’ve probably gathered, there’s not much data about who Chara truly is but the they are just enough for us to understand their mentality and perspectives throughout the game. Chara was the first human to fall down Mount Ebott after the war that separated humans from monsters. Upon falling, they are found by Asriel, Toriel and Asgore’s biological son, and is adopted by the Dreemurr family as a family member. However, when Asgore gets awfully sick after eating a pie prepared by Chara and Asriel, Asriel feels bad about everything that happened, yet Chara LAUGHS in relation to that (I already proved your little “they were laughing away the pain” point wrong so shut the fuck up). Instead of putting “cups of butter” to make the pie, Chara uses Buttercups, poisonous golden flowers in the recipe, causing Asgore to fall horribly sick. Seeing the potency that the flowers have in Monsters, Chara starts to cook up a plan. Chara then gets terminally ill (too) and, before passing away, they ask Asriel to take them to see the golden flowers of their village in the Surface. Throughout the game, it is revealed that Chara had poisoned themself intentionally so that Asriel could absorb their SOUL and thus cross the barrier so that they could kill humans together and harvest their SOULs. So, yeah, Chara INTENTIONALLY poisons themself so that they have the chance to kill humans (which they succeed with the sole exception of Frisk that they posses depending on the ending we achieve in-game). But anyway, upon reaching the Surface, Asriel is attacked by the humans, for they have thought Asriel had attacked and killed Chara. This causes Chara’s desire to kill humans to manifest into their fusion and put it in a state of hatred but Asriel is able to resist that and let the fusion be attacked. Asriel then returns to the underground horribly wounded and both Asriel and Chara thus die. This story takes us to the story of Flowey; when Asriel died, his dust was spread across Asgore’s garden of golden flowers. Later, Alphys, doing experiments with Determination, injected the first flower that bloomed after Toriel left Asgore with Determination. The initial experiments didn’t work, which made Alphys return the flower to Asgore to be replanted in the garden. However, the flower woke up alive in the garden and thanks to Asriel’s essence from his dust in the garden, Flowey retained Asriel’s memories, but he also noticed that he din’t feel any emotions since he didn’t have a SOUL and thus was unable to feel love, joy or compassion. Those, dear readers, are all the information available about these two characters, so now let’s move on the psychological part. All of these informations affirm that both Chara and Flowey suffer from psychological problems, with Chara being a psychopath and Flowey being a sociopath. Now let’s analyse this a bit; many people assume amiss that psychopathy and sociopathy are the same but that’s wrong. Indeed, both disorders are very similar but there are a few details that set them apart so let’s see what psychopathy and sociopathy have in common, first:
Both are “antisocial personality disorders”;
Both lack empathy;
Both despise and disobey rules of social behaviour;
Both do not feel remorse or guilt;
Both are violent and hurt people;
Now that’s where things change. Differing from a sociopath, a psychopath possesses the following symptoms: The origin of their disorder is in the innate condition of their existence. According to a research made by the International Institute of Minnesota, 60% of psychopaths are psychopathic by heredity, meaning they were simply born this way. Now:
A psychopath has GREAT chances of being a nice and well-mannered person with a good professional career;
A psychopath possesses a very controlled temper and behaviour;
A psychopath is highly manipulative;
A psychopath is completely incapable of creating (real) bonds with other people;
A psychopath is generally very smart, intelligent and carefully calculates and plans their actions and risks, leaving the least amount of evidence as possible in their crimes;
Whereas a sociopath is very different. The origin of their disorder has great chances of being generated due to the environment they live in. Researches show that great part of sociopaths have become sociopathic due to their precocious institutionalisation, meaning they were NOT born this way. Now:
A sociopath has difficulty in being polite or well-mannered and generally cannot maintain themselves in a job;
A sociopath has a behaviour of loss of control that generates hate and anger;
A sociopath is impulsive and spontaneous;
A sociopath is capable of creating bonds with other people or an individual group;
A sociopath is spontaneous and thus leaves marks and evidences in their crimes;
Now it’s when we analyse how Chara and Flowey fit in those profiles, starting by Chara. Chara is a psychopath: If we analyze their story enough, we’ll see that their story is indeed based in a frenetic impulse of psychopathy. Like I said above, a psychopath is usually a well-mannered person and gets very well socially. Chara was very well-seen by the Monsters while living in the Underground, so much that they say they “filled the Underground with hope” and therefore had great capacity of interacting with others. However, when we look into the manipulation thing, Chara is an extremely manipulative character, both while living in the Underground and at the end of the Genocide Run. Their attitudes in relation to the player at the end of the Genocide Run testify that: They induce the player to erase the world and is thus manipulating them by doing exactly that. They are intelligent, they know they need you to escape to destroy and kill everyone, so they need you to do their bidding, which is exactly what happens at a potential post-Genocide Pacifist Run. The same way they manipulated Asriel: to take him to the Surface as a SOUL inside him and carry their own dead body so the humans can see and make the mistake that leads them to attack him. Chara is clearly manipulating him by doing that. Chara also does not possess sympathy or empathy for anyone; When Asgore eats the poisoned pie and gets sick, Chara sadistically laughs at what happened and thus does not feel remorse before that. Another example of Chara’s lack of empathy towards anyone is how they didn’t care for how clearly uncomfortable Asriel was with their plan, they literally have to convince him through guilt-tripping and manipulation when he’s CRYING to go along with their plan:
Asriel (fourth True Lab VHS tape): I... I don't like this idea, <Name>. Wh.. what? N-no, I'm not... ... big kids don't cry. Yeah, you're right. No! I'd never doubt you, <Name>. Never! Y... yeah! We'll be strong! We'll free everyone. I'll go get the flowers.
This tape really goes to show how Chara clearly despises weakness, chastising Asriel for being “weak" and only cares about gaining more power, not caring a thing in the world on how other people feel. Remembering that Chara does all of this calculatedly, planning everything step-by-step, the same way a psychopath would do. Now, it is said by Asriel that Chara “hated humanity” and people just assume that this somehow means that they are actually depressed and abused and jumped on Mt. Ebott as an attempt of suicide, right? Well, that’s unfortunately NOT the case. The real reason why Chara “hated humanity and felt very strongly about it” is NEVER stated out loud and Asriel even goes to say that Chara never said why they felt this way. That’s right, Chara has no reason to hate humanity, they do what they do because they want to and because they LIKE hurting and killing. Like I said above, psychopaths are born psychopaths; They just want people to die and suffer by their hands and they leave it as less evident as possible, to the point of using Frisk as a physical vessel for them to kill Monsters and they only reveal their true colors and their plan to erase the timeline at the very end of the Genocide Run. Not to mention the way they fell down Mount Ebott is a bit suspicious to me. The intro of the game shows them tripping on a vine then falling on the hole leading to the Underground so it isn’t really a stretch to say that they’ve been lying to Asriel to gain his sympathy (another form of manipulation). Now on to Flowey. Flowey is a bit more different. Yes, Flowey also has the very same destructive impulses to destroy everything and everyone, but differing from Chara, his attitudes and motives to do that are different. First off, Flowey doesn’t have that much of a good capacity to interact with other monsters, as his explosive temper and his urge to attack everything he comes across turn Flowey VERY distanced from the others. Indeed, Flowey usually resides in an place that’s excluded from the Monster society, the Ruins. Flowey also isn’t very polite, his way of speaking is very different from the others. His signature “Howdy!” is southern slang, the way country people speak, whereas Chara, should I also add, politely greets the player with “Greetings”, a very formal way of saying hello. All of Flowey’s explosive behavior and lack of control towards Frisk, especially at the beginning of the game, shows that he doesn’t calculate his attitudes or his actions and is impulsive, the same way a sociopath acts. Also differing from Chara, Flowey has and had bonds, with Papyrus and possibly many others after he found out about his power to reset, save and load and, of course, with Chara. Flowey constantly feels like he has to do Chara’s bidding and even apologises to them at one point, showing that he is capable of bonding with someone, different from a psychopath. Flowey’s acts of violence are also very clear; he doesn’t do it all in secret like Chara does, he shows it in your face that he is indeed an antagonist. Who else makes crimes leaving marks behind? A sociopath, obviously. And surely, Flowey wasn’t always a sociopath, he became one, he is what Asriel became after being manipulated by Chara, Chara made him a sociopath (if not the boredom he felt after seeing all the Underground has to offer but you get my point). Indeed, Flowey/Asriel only turns evil and sociopathic due to the manipulative influences of Chara, Chara made him this way, Chara was the starting point for Flowey to start having those attitudes of violence in the game. To sum it all up: Chara was born a psychopath, as they have no reason to hate humanity, and Flowey is a sociopath because he was manipulated by Chara as Asriel. He doesn’t do what he does because he wants to, he only wants to satisfy Chara.
Conclusion (Chara=The Player/Character Analysis): Now, it is indeed a bit difficult to explain this line of thinking. Every RPG has in its essence killing and defeating your enemies, getting stronger, winning new equipments, gaining experience to evolve in levels and going to face new challenges. But that’s different in Undertale. This game values every single character it has, from simple enemies to NPCs, killing and defeating is not a necessity. Indeed, the more you kill, the worse your (most precisely Neutral) ending becomes. It really goes to show how being stronger than everyone else doesn’t necessarily make you better than anyone else, and in Undertale, the exact opposite happens, it makes you the worse. It completely goes against the idea that the more you kill, the better you are, without caring about anyone else, without the least bit of remorse, being the very best at every cost even if it means killing everyone around you. Chara is never met in person at all in every other route of Undertale besides the Genocide Run, and that’s because every EXP and every LV you gain gives them power, thus causing them to grow stronger and mentally posses Frisk. Why do you think Chara is the embodiment of the feeling you get every time your statuses increase? Why do you think you’re supposed to name them after yourself as the player (as stated by Toby Fox himself)? That's because completing a Genocide Run would be just like completing an RPG like any other and Chara is that feeling we have inside of us every time we gain more power, when we feel nothing upon seeing people get hurt, upon seeing the news of terrible things happening in the world and feeling nothing at all. They’re that evil voice whispering “kill them, you have the power” when we’re clutching a knife in our hands just about to cause pain and suffering for those who hurt you instead of feeling empathy and learning to forgive. Have you noticed how Chara is the only character in the entire game that we don’t fight? It's because Chara, being the feeling of only wanting more power and feeling no empathy for others at all, can only be defeated by doing good to others, by forgiving, by making friends and not using or manipulating them into doing what only YOU want them to do. Chara only resurrects at the very end of the Genocide Run, when everything and everybody are truly destroyed and only for wanting more power, they tell you that your “human SOUL” and your “Determination" are what brought them back to life, meaning that, upon wanting to become more powerful, you as the player, acquired their traits. HP. ATTACK. GOLD. DEFENCE. EXP. LV. Every time time a number increases, that feeling, that's Chara. With your guidance, Chara has finally resurrected, they could have never done this without you and have finally realised why they’re back to life: power, and that’s exactly what Chara represents. As that old saying says: “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely”. The player needs an equal, a representative in-game to represent their thirst and lust for power, their want to be the best at every cost and to kill everyone in their way if needed. Chara is a separate entity that lives in all of us, our thirst and lust for power that, if one lets it grow, can destroy worlds regardless of one’s choice, because YOU are never in control. Chara takes the game's control away from the player more and more as the Genocide Run progresses and, towards its end, more and more and more Monsters do not recognise Frisk as human anymore. That is because, as you kill, you literally strip yourself of your humanity. Is it really you in control of your actions, or your greed? Are you really the one making the rules, or your selfishness? Is there really anything more than just your ego and your futility that keeps you going? Are you leaving good things to the people around you or are you just an asshole wishing to manipulate everyone and have an easy life? Are you a true true friend or do you manipulate your friends and steal their attention, their empathy and sympathy with lies just so they can all cater to your needs and whims? In other words, you inner Chara? Soulless monster, you have no excuses to say you haven’t been warned, for when there is nothing nor nobody around you, do not complain that you did not know where you were going to.
I am open to discussions and will ignore flames.

Chapter 20: Short people are moody or bipolar?
In which Sans behaves like a prick at first.
*Frisk's POV*
I looked over the mirror in my room and smiled. I was wearing a plain purple sweater and a pink skirt, along with my wonderful brown boots and a small pink ribbon in my short hair. I was ready to see them all. To have the day of our lives with them!
I sighed, knowing it will probably won't be that exciting. Everything in my life makes me feel empty and... incomplete. That's why I kept on resetting; so I could finally be able to find the path I wanted. However, I haven't, and...
I can't reset any longer.
It's probable that Sans will throw a party after knowing, but I? I simply don't know how to react. The resets were the best power in my life, the only thing that made me feel special. And now, all of that is gone... because I have stayed in the Surface for too much time. That's why I never did a "Pacifist" route, I always killed at least one monster.
oR sOMEtIMeS i wOUld vAnISh tHEm aLL.
It's... quite funny, you know? It interests me how far someone can get thanks to the curiosity we eventually deal with. Also boredom. The kind of power a simple human girl like me can have due to her personality is also quite impressive. But how does it work? How a single trait is able to determine (get it? because mine's determination? *wink wink*) a whole person? Everyone has a lot of backstory, ideals, dreams, hopes, and problems. How can only a word represent all of it? It's just amazing how souls work and how their power depends on each person individually. I have a theory, though...
I think that the trait is settled only in the Underground thanks to the huge concentration of magic the Surface lacks. In that place, it was able to see the purest and original trait of the person, but in the Surface, thanks to all the experiences, this trait is slightly modified, changing its color into a combination of the first one and others. That would make more sense, and each soul would be different, just like our fingerprints.
That, however, won't explain why all monsters have the same color and, therefore, trait. All of their souls are white and, according to some reading I made, the color means more than a simple word. No. Their souls are made of love, hope, compassion... or so the books say. The whole consistency of a soul is unknown, still. After all, humans' souls have proven to don't need these things to exist. Then what is exactly a soul?
Monsters are... way too attached to their souls. If they are afraid or not willing to fight, then their defenses will grow weaker. If they are mentally unstable, depressed, or with another problem in their personality and mind... their hp will be way too low. That's why I suspect that Sans has problems of this kind and that he has lost all hope in continue living. Hp means "hope", so it makes complete sense. He has only one hp, but also only one of defense, which must mean he is vulnerable.
Mmm...
Vulnerable, huh?
Is he like that because of what I've done these past timelines?
Unfortunately for me, I have not found the way to make a True Reset. For that reason, Sans remembers all the timelines I have created since I fell in the Underground. He also remembers Flowey's timelines, which is quite odd. Where did this guy find the secrets of determination? How has he been able to remember everything if he lacks determination? Sans, in none of the timelines, has been the most determined monster in the Underground. Besides Flowey, Undyne was way too determined. But why she doesn't remember? I must ask Gaster about this...
After all, he is the one who experimented with Sans...
The mere thought of someone using their own son as a lab rat makes me sick but thrilled at the same time. That's I've always found a fascination for how Sans still lives, after all the experiments he has suffered. Of course, he must be enduring some psychological trauma, but that doesn't erase my fascination at all. In fact, thinking that Sans's hope and defense are down because he may have some mental disorder at this point is... is just amazing! Think of the possibilities! Sans is like an experiment himself, all modified in soul and powers. He is the only one with the ability to make artificial magic invented by a monster mind. The Gaster Blasters are a creation of his father, but Gaster himself doesn't have them. He only implemented them on Sans, and amazingly, that unnatural project can be popped up with the same effort as regular magic requires.
Oh, c' mon. You can't tell me it isn't intriguing!
I've... I've been fucking up Sans's mind for oh so long...
But that's a funny sight.
The face he made when he realized I knew everything was priceless. After that encountering, Flowey and I laughed our asses off. He is so... alive! Unnaturally alive! Most of his magic and abilities are artificial (not all of them, don't get me wrong), and still... he is alive! I mean, he was born naturally, but... his strength? His strength wasn't normally developed. His ability, "Karma", is artificial. No other monster has it...
Do you know what's the best of it?
Gaster didn't create "Karma".
Sans did.
He is a living being, and thanks to that, his feelings of dread, revenge, and displeasure created that ability. He... he can even KILL  his father in the blink of an eye! However, Sans is totally unstable in his mind. I can even say he is way too mad and crazy at this point. He's probably waiting for the next reset. Poor thing.
Maybe, and just maybe, Sans has an artificial determination created by that ability of his... that thought is more exciting! He may have a strong determination, but since it's artificial, he has never possessed the powers over time and space. That's funny! He looks so frustrated about me being able to do so!
Or well, when I was able.
I noticed myself being daydreaming about Sans's incredible aura again, and I immediately went up from my bed. Sans is a nice pal, yes, but his power is way better than what his personality could even reach with the maximum of effort. Since he never efforts at anything, I know that his mind will never surpass the amazing magic he has been blessed with.
The possibility of having artificial power is endearing. Just imagine it! If we open our research with human advanced technology, we'll be able to create a new form of life that is COMPLETELY not made by a god or nature.
Oh Jesus! Imagine when that happens!
My life won't be boring anymore!
It'll be like a sci-fi novel!
And I will never have the urge to reset again!
I'll finally... finally-!
I'll finally feel complete...!
"My child!" My mom screamed, her being downstairs of our huge house "Undyne and Alphys have arrived!"
"Gimme a minute!" I answered, and enthusiastically went out of my room. There are high probabilities that the skeleton family will come today, and I'm super excited about it! Gaster is super nice when he's around me, Arial is a sweetheart, Papyrus is a cute cinnamon role and Sans... well, his power!
My OTP, Alphys and Undyne, greeted me at the moment they saw me. They looked... a bit tired. Nothing I can't understand, of course. The house changes and the new step of their relationship can surely make someone feel devastated. That feeling of dread... what I've been feeling since two years ago...
Maybe the hormones are responsible for that.
But I don't care.
I don't deserve to feel empty and without a purpose. How can someone feel like this and not die? Two years have been enough. I bet no one has passed over five.
It's stupid.
Really stupid.
People who feel like this for five years have killed themselves by now.
After some minutes, the rest of our guests arrived. (Y/N) was quite punctual...
Oh, (Y/N)...
She is... interesting.
That strange glimpse of DETERMINATION I saw on her eyes the day she met us has caught my attention. I... I don't think I could define her with a single trait. She is too diverse, too deep of a person. I bet she hides things. I can see it in her desperate look, like if she's trying to escape. Is she bored like I am of regular life? Oh, I bet we'll be pretty good friends if that's the case! She's really smart... she'll understand the concept of time and space manipulation. And when she hears it, she'll be as fascinated as I am. No doubt about it.
I should investigate her more.
When I saw the skeleton family arriving, my heart skipped a beat. But... I think Sans wasn't that well. Did he tire himself? His own powerful existence tires him up a lot.
"SANS! BEHAVE!" Papyrus scolded him after the short skeleton punched Mettaton on the arm... quite roughly.
"fuck this robot" Ok, this isn't like him at all. He's normally pretty laid-back and with an "i don't give a shit" attitude. But now? He looks like cares! This isn't the Sans I know! "actually, fuck everyone"
"SANS!"
"papyrus"
"STOP IT! I KNOW YOU ARE ANGRY AND ALL THAT STUFF, BUT PLEASE! DON'T ACT LIKE A BABYBONES! YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS!"
Sansy groaned loudly which worried everyone in the room. Something bad must have happened...
Hope it doesn't involve his magic.
We started our evening by playing an old board game that Sans surprisingly loves: Yahtzee. Minute by minute, the madness of the short skeleton started to go away until he said the first pun in that evening. Everyone knew then that Sans was back.
Honestly, he is the perfect definition of "messed up teenager". He is pretty... bipolar, and sometimes he is just too... childish. Too mature and, at the same time, too stupid. How can someone like that exist?
How?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Papyrus's POV*
Thanks to a bit of effort, Sans was back to his usual, punny self. And well, I also have to thank Yahtzee. He loves that game with an unhealthy passion. And I say unhealthy because he mostly played it on the bar of Grillby...
Talking about bars...
Remember when Sans left the house all angry? Well, guess what?! He went to a freaking bar!
I was so disappointed when I found him there, unconscious and on top of a table. He had a small glass on his side, which I think it's for smaller beings than him (which it's weird since he is pretty small. He is only 5'1 feet tall!). Anyways, he was just there, obviously passed out thanks to that horrible thing called alcohol. Seriously, the life of my brother would be way better if that thing didn't exist in the first place. That's something that messes up with him as well. He just doesn't want to admit it.
After finding and scolding him when he woke up, he became really mad at us. No, I don't think mad... more like moody. It is said that short people are moody! That must explain it...!
Sans has been pretty bipolar these last days. He is at first happy and then he's angry. Sans wasn't this moody when we were younger. I have the theory that all these sudden changes and how often does he see our parents now are the major causes of this problem. This is becoming so overwhelming for him that he needed to feel at home again... and that's why he went to a bar.
I don't pity him, but I know he's been through a lot. He doesn't even know how to express or even call his own feelings, something that interests me. I'm quite good at expressing myself, but him? Maybe he never was good at this, but I recall those days that he used to interact with a lot of people. Now he's closing his world and he's not letting new people come in. Not even the ones he used to care about are allowed to enter there anymore. When we were younger, I practically knew everything about my brother. I can't confirm that now. He's been pushing everyone away, including me. I don't know his thoughts, I don't know how he sees life. I only know his likings, and there's where I'm trying to base myself on my research.
After a few of board games later, my favorite star (Mettaton) caught everyone's attention with his marvelous and robotic voice. Sans seemed a little annoyed, but he quickly joked about it...
I'm worried.
I think Sans has been using these jokes to despise us and make us think he is fine when he clearly isn't. Thinking about it, (Y/N) smiles a lot and tries to show a positive image when she may be struggling with her problems. She shows a bit of confidence and clear kindness, but is that all she wants to let us know? According to what I've seen with my brother, he hides his feelings until he is on the edge. Is she the same? Is she trying to hide her mind from us? Why in the world do they think it's a good idea?
...
I don't think I'll ever understand them.
"Beauties!" Mettaton exclaimed glamorously, like always! "My creative and artistic mind has settled the next activity: A KARAOKE CONTEST!"
"OH MY GOD!" I gasped happily, with the hope that my brother would sing again "THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Your POV*
Yeah, now I was really regretting this.
A lot of the people present thought it would be a wonderful idea. Some were more hesitant about it, and a certain someone was... scared?
"oh hell no. i'm not doing this"
"C' MON SANS! YOU SING REALLY GOOD! I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE!"
Wait, so he sings? Or well, sang?
Papyrus kept on complaining that his brother had a real talent for singing. I was not the only one dumbfounded at this statement. In fact, the only one who was not surprised was Mettaton, confirming what the tall skeleton was saying.
For destiny reasons, I had to agree with joining the competition. Mostly because everyone was going to join (except Flowey). It was about to get awful, I knew it. Thank God that Sans wasn't angry anymore. He was more like... anxious and having a panic attack. He...
ohmygodheisnotdoingfinehelookslikeheisgoingtocollapseohgodaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Em pal...?" I tried to sound as confident as possible. I failed. "Are you okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost?"
"i... i'm fine, kid" I sighed in relief when he seemed to be more relaxed. "by the way, what do ghosts have to do with all of this? i just saw napstablook and i was pretty much okay"
Oh right, ghosts are indeed a thing...
I don't think I'll ever get used to it.
"So... is it true that you used to sing?" I asked, trying not to fall into the dark hole of awkwardness.
He remained silent for a moment, and his expression was pretty... shocked. I thought I may have touched a complicated topic, but when I was about to apologize, he answered.
"i used to. i just don't have the guts to do it anymore"
...
Oh my God, I'm going to kill this guy.
He remarkably smirked while I rolled my eyes, feeling like a complete idiot. At least I was sure of something: I didn't hurt his feelings at all. That made me feel peaceful and sort of... angry? More like pissed off, actually. After all, I was the only one worrying, and Sans? Oh, he never gave a shit.
So...
Mettaton went first on this stupid contest. Said he had to "make the beginners feel confident". He sang REALLY good, yes, but...
"INSIDE MY HEART IS BREAKING! MY MAKE-UP MAY BE FLAKING BUT MY SMILE... STILL, STAYS ON!" Aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnndddddd he struck a dramatic pose on top of a table. Again.
I couldn't help but cringe at every time he did so. A wonderful Queen song, ruined by dramatic actions between lyrics. I kept my cool and hummed the song silently, trying not to punch the robot on the face. I don't hate the guy, but Jesus, he was starting to flirt with everyone! The song is not even flirty!
"MY SOUL IS PAINTED LIKE THE WINGS OF BUTTERFLIES! FAIRYTALES OF YESTERDAY, WILL GROW BUT NEVER DIE! I CAN FLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MY FRIIEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!" And he jumped from the table and fell on his metallic butt...
Before I could tell myself what was wrong and what was right I laughed loudly. He gasped in fake horror, and soon more people started to laugh as well. He finished the song more dramatic than ever, and after that, he punched me lightly on the arm.
"Dude, what the-"
"You don't have the right to offend me, darling!" He laughed mischievously " And, as a consequence, now is your turn!"
Oh no.
I felt how my heart stopped for a moment, and then, how fast it started to beat.
I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it.
...
Yes, I can.
I took a deep breath and let the song picker choose. You bet I was shaking, but... I somehow felt sure about myself in that place. They have shown nothing but kindness and support, so I went along with it. What a silly song would change?
And so I sang "Dream" by Imagine Dragons. It's such a powerful song, and I let myself get lost on it. They applauded me, just like they did with everyone else, and it was really good actually. I was having fun, I felt really welcomed. My singing wasn't spectacular, but still, I received a couple of compliments.
How can they be so nice?
Everything went well, the rounds started to pass by and more applauses came in the end. That, until it was Sans's turn.
"do i really need to do it?"
"SANS! JUST FREAKING DO IT!"
Sans sighed and stood in front of all of us. It doesn't matter how hard he tried to hide it- panic was still visible in his eyes. His posture was normal, his smile as well, but his eyes said everything. He was scared of people not liking his voice. He felt overwhelmed because he was overrated. He had our expectations high...
He just didn't want to disappoint anyone.
It's kind of scary how relatable I see Sans. He shows a smile and a laid-back personality, but in reality, he cares. His look says it all.
And just when things were not bad enough, the song picker chose "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses. And oh, that's a hell of a song. However, he didn't complain. In fact, he was looking pretty dead at that point.
And before he was ready, the music started.

Real Talk: Baby Sans (Take II)
Name: Baby Sans
Fandom(s): Undertale
Chapters: 15
Description: Title literally says it all. Also, it's and AU and I obviously don't own Undertale, or any of its characters. T because safety. Enjoy at your own risk, my writing is terrible.
Summary: An experiment to figure out the nature of resets leaves Sans as a baby who has strange new powers he can’t control because of it. Meanwhile, thanks to Sans, Flowey manages to find a part of himself he forgot ever existed.
[WARNING: Undertale spoilers ahead]
Now you all are asking me why I’m doing Baby Sans again. As some of you might know, I already reviewed Baby Sans back during the first set of reviews for this blog. But, reading back through it again, I realized there’s a LOT of stuff I missed, so I’m reviewing it again, only, this time, I’ll be doing it a little differently.
Here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to go through it “arc” by “arc” to see if we can’t get to the bottom of where this fic went wrong (I’d also recommend reading the old review too). Here we go.
PART 1: BABY SANS (chapters 1-5)
The fic starts off with Papyrus telling Sans he's going to be late to go the laboratory to help Alphys with an experiment. This experiment is on the nature of resets and also involves Frisk (why Sans is also involved, I couldn't tell you). If there's one thing I know about Alphys, though, it should be that she'd NEVER be willing to do an experiment on her friends after what happened with the Amalgamates. Nonetheless, Sans and Frisk get placed in two separate pods, but, when the experiment starts going wrong and Frisk tries to reset to fix it (even though that is not what should be the first logical solution), the reset gets...transferred into Sans? This is what turns him into a baby. He's then left alone when Alphys and Frisk leave...until Flowey shows up, that is. When Sans cries and a tear lands on his leaf, though, Flowey suddenly turns nice (for no explained reason). Then Frisk and Alphys return, but Sans sneezes on Alphys, which turns her into a baby as well (for no explained reason). After Alphys cries for a bit, Papyrus arrives and makes spaghetti for everyone.
PART 2: FLOWEY’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE (chapters 6-10)
After everyone's finished with their spaghetti, Flowey asks Sans to cry on him again to see what would happen. Sans agrees and, this time, Flowey sees Gaster and Asriel standing in the void begging him for help (which OH MY GOSH IS STILL UNEXPLAINED). Gaster tells Flowey he has to save Asriel first and that he has to do it with something Alphys made called the “soul container”. Flowey immediately finds it and takes some soul energy from it (WHY DOES ALPHYS HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS???), which transforms him back into Asriel (and also, for some reason, Flowey can't remember anything about actually being Asriel in the past and only remembers once he IS Asriel again, which absolutely goes against canon, but, as was established in the oldest version of the description, the author wrote this BEFORE playing the games, which is insipidly dumb). Asriel takes Frisk's phone and invites Toriel to Alphys' lab to see what's happened. When she gets there and sees Asriel, Sans sneezes on her, turning her into a preteen/teenager (she's CALLED a preteen at first, but, in a later chapter, she says she's between 15 and 19, which leaves me really confused)(also WHY IS SHE NOT A BABY???). Just then, a portal shows up with Gaster and a baby Asriel standing just inside (which is, once again, never explained). When the portal disappears, Asriel gains a huge wound in his chest from which Flowey crawls out (however a flower can crawl) (also WHAT????). They throw Flowey in the sink for a while to attend to Asriel. Undyne and Mettaton show up, but Alphys only tells Mettaton to come in, leaving Undyne standing outside wondering what the heck is going on. Alphys then reveals that Mettaton has medical capabilities and equipment (for some reason) and he immediately goes to work on Asriel until he's all healed.
PART 3: THE CROSSOVER NO ONE UNDERSTANDS (chapters 11-14)
While Asriel's healing, the group talks for a while about various things before Sans sees another portal with Gaster inside and gets a strange vision that tells him he's actually part of a fanfiction. Because of this, he gains a new ability (on top of the other ridiculous ones he already has): when he snaps (which a baby shouldn't have the coordination to do but whatever) he gets transported to another world (which I can only assume is the world of this other fanfiction that gets brought up later). Alphys is there too and, together, they follow that world's Toriel back to her house. Sans sees Flowey in the window and tries to get Flowey's attention. Meanwhile, Alphys climbs a tree only to be forgotten and never mentioned again. Once Sans gets Flowey's attention, Flowey figures out how to send Sans back to his own world. When he gets back, though, he can't speak, as his words only come out as gibberish. He “involuntarily” teleports away again and ends up in the void with another version of himself and Papyrus. He has another vision and figures out this Sans and Papyrus come from the world of a fanfiction called “Little Asriel” (which I’m probably going to have to read at some point, aren’t I?) and he manages (through the power of terrible writing) to break the language barrier to say hi to them. That's where the story ends, as the fifteenth chapter is just the author telling us the fic's discontinued until further notice (essentially what's said).
After looking at it like this, it's easy to see where the fic's problems lie. Essentially, this fic loses its purpose after a while. It leaves plot points hanging in the air while it goes off on unrelated tangents and forgets what it's actually supposed to be doing. It forgets about things it's established and leaves them behind in favor of things that aren't what it's supposed to be focusing on. There was no purpose to most anything in this fic and nothing's actually important. The story devolves and devolves to the point where “author power” is literally stated to be the only reason anything's even happening anymore. It's near impossible to keep track of anything that's going on and it took me reading it OUT LOUD and talking it over with my sister (mostly with bad jokes and whatnot) to actually make sense of anything at all.
I've said it before and this statement still stands: “Baby Sans is a fanfiction written by someone with no idea what they were doing that loses focus at the rate of a toddler. In fact, this fic is easily comparable to baby babble: utterly incomprehensible.”
