Love that they already know that season 5 will be the finale
Like this they have a fixed end and know that they have wrap up the story beautifully and not let it end with a never resolved cliffhanger
They promised seven seasons, we’ll get five. I think that’s actually a good outcome

Everyone is talking about the Barbie/Oppenheimer movies coming out on the same day but no one is talking about The Witcher season 3 and The Dragon Prince season 5 coming out on Netflix on the same day

Honestly, it's kinda nice that they released The Dragon Prince like five days ahead of schedule. Late next week was looking a little crowded for me and now it's not.
(Netflix should still pay its actors/writers/creatives way better, of course)

So i finished season 3.1 of The Witcher...and fuck that was bad.
The whole thing was a meandering mess. Literally parts of it were unwatchable, all that saved it was how bloody good the main cast are.
Like the character dynamics? the found family? the soft friendship? the confirmed bisexual Jaskier? CHEFS KISS
but literally all the actually political plot they were trying to string around it? chaos. and that's not to mention the terrible pacing
I cannot understand how a show can have so much going for it in terms of excellent stars, brilliant characterization, iconic soundtrack, a massive budget, and yet still turn out a season that felt like it was written on the back of a grocery receipt.
Henry, Joey, Anya, and Freya carried it amazingly, but I can see why Henry had chosen to step away, and give some of the atrocious casting choices here (i'm looking at you Robbie Amell), i highly doubt that Liam Hemsworth will actually be able to come across as aythig other than a cheap parody.
for all this whole season was supposed to be about political plotting and intrigue, it felt like they basically just reduced Ciri down to a magical macguffin that no one can actually explain why they want. they just know they're supposed to want her.
Cahir and Fringilla, two of my favorite characters in season 2, here felt like random legacy characters - specifically Fringilla who has gone from a powerful vet vulnerable leader to....a stumbling drunk? The elves too also felt like a hanger on, which is bizarre give how important all 3 were last season
It also suffers from the season 7 GOT problem of 'no travel time needed'. Season 2 spent so much time on the slog of distance and travel, with characters desperately trying to make their way across the continent in safety ad in good time, which added great tension. but here, in a season where we establish Yennifers portals are not usable, it seems they're able to jump around the continent like ping-pong balls.
I think this seasons main problem was a complete lack of drive. Season 1 had 'get Ciri to Geralt', Season 2 had the simmer of getting Yen's magic back and unraveling the mystery of Ciri's power, but Season 3 was just...play magic keepaway with Ciri?- but to the point they never let a single villain get close enough to her to present a real threat.
There was so much of this season that should have been cut, to the point episodes often became mired in a bog of confusing extra plotpoints and character moments that added nothing to the story, except to slow its pace to a crawl. I often found myself literally tuning out from boredom, a problem i never had in season 1 & 2
the decision to split the season like this is also odd as hell, ad speaks to me of total chaos behind the scenes and a lack of faith in their story.
I'll watch the conclusion when it arrives, but honestly this felt like a whimpering death-knell of a once brilliant show

@week-of-whump
August Whump Week Prompts: Day 3 - "Nobody needs to know."; Day 5 - "Stay still"; Day 6 - "Do you trust me?"
I used three prompts for this one chapter, hope that is OK? (It’s longer than three double drabbles 😉). Thanks a lot for the inspiration! ❤️
Chapters: 1/6; Words: 2,127 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach & Fringilla Vigo, Francesca Findabair | Enid an Gleanna & Fringilla Vigo Additional Tags: Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach Whump, Major Character Injury
Summary: Cahir is badly injured and missing after his fight with the Scoia'tael on Thanedd island. Fortunately he has a good friend in Fringilla.
Excerpt from Chapter 1 - A friend in need
"Where is the girl? Have the scouts returned?" Francesca asks, rushing through the cave towards the entrance where two elves are standing guard. "Did Cahir capture her?"
"They haven't returned."
No, of course not. Why should anything go like planned? They have lost everything and won nothing. Achieved nothing except to put the world-famous Aretuza to ruins. Explosions still shake the island. Francesca gazes outside. She gasps as she sees the ancient elven tower, Tor Lara, crumble, the falling stone revealing the smooth black rock of a monolith. What by the gods happened here? She cannot only hear the rumble of falling stones, feel the vibrations of the explosion, sense the aftereffect of a powerful blow of magic, but for a second it is as if a rift in the material of space and time had opened, a dangerous chasm that could devour the world. Or rebirth it. Francesca blinks and the unsettling feeling of foreboding is gone.
"We need to leave. Ready the boat!" she orders the guards and the elven soldier that has come down here with them.
"Francesca, we need to wait," Fringilla urges. "Maybe Cahir and the scouts are still out there. They might still catch her."
"No, they won't." The absolute certainty in her words even surprises Francesca. But she knows it is the truth. "Cirilla is not on the island anymore. I can feel it. We won't achieve anything by waiting."
"I won't abandon Cahir on this island and leave him to his fate." No, not again. Not like after their defeat at Sodden Hill.
"Stay if you want. I say good riddance," Francesca spits, her blood-splattered face a mask of distaste. There is clearly no love lost between the two despite them being allies. "Cahir brought us to this cursed island. My husband is dead because of him. Most of my men are dead because of him. We cannot even bury their corpses."
"Still, he's my friend."
"Since when?" Francesca scoffs. "Back in Xin'trea I had the impression that you were rivals, that you were afraid of him."
"Things change. And I was wrong. Please, Francesca."

I have to scream about The Witcher sorry.
I watched Season One when it came out as a joke because lol there was no way it could be good right? And then it was funny, and thoughtful, and sad, and funny! It was wonderful tongue in check story telling and you could FEEL how excited everyone was to be a part of it. The costumes. The music. The tension. The dialogue.
And it is all gone. Season 3, none of that remains. The costuming was non existent — Geralt didn’t wear armor even once — and Yennifer! Her makeup was orange, her clothes didn’t fit, they robbed her of all her pain and spite. They made her a mom without showing us any of the heartache involved in being a mom.
The dialogue. Like. What. Happened. Were there no writers in the writers room, just computers?!! Geralt said “alone at last”. Geralt. Of Rivia. (Did I mention his hair doesn’t move?) every line was a cliche, there was no passion, nothing. All the heart that Geralt had in season one and two is just gone.
And Jaskier. I. I can’t. It’s too painful. To have him be canonically bi is so fucking wonderful, and then… like who fucking framed that scene in the shed? There is no art, no storytelling. I wanted to cry.
Anyways. I’m normal about this.

the fact that before we even know that what we're seeing of the ball is a lie, as we're watching everything go down and thinking "that was... weird" and "that feels out of character?", when we're getting more and more certain that something's up, valdo's troupe is in the background the entire time, singing "all is not as it seems"...
literally sexiest episode of all time.
