An idea I had that I wonder if other people would also think would be something cool. A Spiderman show that centers around Miles instead of Peter. With similar writing to both Spectacular Spiderman and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
The Professor Power thing where he is some guy running around in his dead son's body is... really kinda one of those comic book things that are better off not being thought about too much... also Jean just kinda sorta talks this dude to death here...
I thought about writing this more deeply after a couple of observational encounters with the Andrew Garfield movie, “Under the Silver Lake”, and a Spectacular Spider-Man episode yesterday. I worked too hard on Saturday doing laundry chores and dealing with aging parents that I didn’t have time to watch more episodes.
Those who know anything about Marvel comics should have no trouble recognizing the little lady on your screen as May "Mayday" Parker, aka. Spider-Girl. As the matriarch and sole survivor of the short-lived MC2 Universe, she's enjoyed no shortage of popularity since her initial introduction as a one-shot character. But at the same time, people will also undoubtedly notice some design changes from her comic book appearance. Changes which I'm about to explain, as they once again stem from my Spectacular Spider-Man fanfic ideas.
Most of you might not know that my fanfic plans (assuming I can find co-writers to help me get them off the ground) promise the inclusion of "Spider-Gwen" into the mix. And that's where the direction of May's life is already going to make a sharp turn. Instead of being the daughter of Peter and Mary Jane, as she is in the comics, she's, instead, going to be the daughter of Peter and Gwen. MJ will still be in the picture, but she'll, in fact, be May's Godmother and will, actually be the one to design the costume May's rocking here, which incorporates elements from both Peter and Gwen's designs.
As you can see, I haven't strayed TOO far from the original "Ben Reilly" Spider-Man costume that May took up in the comics, but adding elements from Gwen's costume allowed me to make some alterations that I felt were aesthetic improvements. While I always thought the Ben Reilly costume was cool, my main problem with May wearing it was always that, with the exception of her VERY attractive lady parts, she just looked too much like her father in it. So I wanted something that would exude a little more femininity. However, we've already seen the open-mask concept with the various Spider-Woman incarnations. But since I already knew I was going to give Gwen spider powers in her own right, making her costume an amalgam of hers and Peter's only seemed right. So the hood pretty much became a no-brainer. From there, I kind of played fast and loose with the web designs, added in some "Spider-Gwen"-style booties and what you see is what you get.
Granted, the picture, itself is very simple, with no background. But that decision was by design, because I wanted the image to be a nod to the Spider-Girl comic covers, several of which were just plain white backgrounds or gradients. In fact, the gradient of this pic (as well as the title) were both intended to be an homage to her first comic book cover.
All-in-all, I was quite pleased with how it turned out and I hope everyone else feels the same. Also, hopefully, if someone sees this and becomes intrigued in possibly helping me put these ideas into written form, so much the better. Either way, I hope to hear from you. ^_^
MJ is really cool and god I would have killed to have a friend like her in hs but people need to be REAL and admit that most of her character is about about guys. Most of her dialog is about dating/flirting and 9/10 it's usually what she is gonna talk about as soon as she appears. She is in everyone's business about their own relationships too.
There is nothing wrong at all with being interested in dating and dating a lot, that's amazing she is finding herself out more and more as she transitions into adulthood, but there is a problem for a character when literal one digit percentages in dialog are for normal friend convos. Especially when some of those friends are girls.
She is portrayed initially to the audience as an intelligent cool feminist free spirited icon but it becomes apparent real quick that she is written then forth as mostly a romantic drama creating temptress who has been in the midst of cheating scandals since season one. It's weird!! And others should think it's weird too!!
She had so much potential as a chill and actual smart person who still loves to date but cis men screwed it up as per the norm 😭😭 ( yes I am aware the show is from the early 2000s )
