#the reyincarnation theory

Jeez Louise, this is nonsense, but okay:
Why I think the Reyincarnation Theory (Rey is somehow a reincarnation of Anakin) is plausible:
Okay so. The Rise of Skywalker has a lot of things to do as a film. It has to conclude the sequel trilogy and thematically link all nine movies as “the Skywalker Saga.” But there’s a problem.
For various reasons, Han, Luke, and Leia, the original trio, can’t be used to do this (they’ve been written out, Carrie Fisher’s untimely passing, etc.). Their legacies are important, but the sequels solidly focus on new characters. We don’t have an in-focus Skywalker in the sequel trilogy at all, do we?
(Yes, yes, Kylo Ren, sure. But he doesn’t actually count. He’s an antagonist, purposefully designed to be a bit pathetic --it’s no accident that Snoke eventually snaps at him that he’s playing at being evil, and he’s actually a more successful villain and much more Vader-like after he symbolically breaks his mask and stops trying so hard. Heck, maybe he embraces the spirit, at least, of the Sith code (through power my chains are broken; the Force will set me free...))
Anyway.
They’ve partially solved the problem of linking the movies by bringing back Palpatine. Nothing like a returning villain to do the job, and I’ll be very surprised if they don’t retcon it so that he was somehow influencing Snoke (see also: Palpatine’s tendency to keep his apprentices as pets more than full apprentices, Snoke's comment about Hux being a dog, Palpatine's ‘always a bigger prize’ mentality towards promising youngsters, etc).
But bringing back Palpatine creates a whole new narrative issue: It makes Anakin’s story (finally breaking free of his limited choices out of love and destroying his master, supposedly bringing balance to the Force) unfinished. I’ll get to that later.
Then there’s that bizarre subtitle. The Rise of Skywalker? What the heck does that mean? It’s an awkward title, especially since we’re used to using it as a family name. Luke Skywaker, a Skywalker, another Skywalker. But here it’s phrased in a singular way, like a title, or the full name of a person. What if someone in the sequel trilogy is not a Skywalker, but “Skywalker” full stop? The only person available for the job, really, is Rey.
Where does Rey come from, anyway? It would seem pretty out of character for Han, Luke, or Leia to have a secret kid that they just...dropped off somewhere. Luke grew up without knowing his parents. I don’t think he would like doing the same to another kid. Kylo Ren said that Rey’s parents were nobodies, and he was telling the truth from what he knew. Rey certainly sensed no lie. But when she looked for answers in the Dark Side nexus, she didn’t see whoever dropped her off on Jakku. She saw only herself. Could it be more accurate to say that Rey’s parents were no-one?
Back to the structure of the series. Looking at the Original Trilogy by itself, Anakin being saved in ROTJ is not the catharsis of Anakin’s story, but of Luke’s. Luke, who idolized Anakin and hated Vader, had that thoroughly kicked out from under him, and came back angry and certain that there was still hope, still another way, a way out, and being proven right (tell your sister you were right).
Anakin’s story in the first six movies does reach a conclusion: he saves his son out of a free choice of love after decades of being defined by hate and a life of limited choices, destroys the Emperor and so the Empire.
And yet.
We have to ask the question: did Anakin bring balance to the Force?
The sequel trilogy seems to say no. The First Order rises from the ashes of the Empire and gains power. Whatever Snoke’s deal is is going on. Luke has come to the conclusion that rebuilding the Jedi Order will only perpetuate the problems that led to its fall and Darth Vader being a thing. (He’s not wrong, but uh, TLJ possibly could have handled that better. Luke grew up on Tattooine, never knew the Republic or the Jedi Order as it was, and never showed any hesitation about following the spirit rather than the letter of the Rules. He’s maybe not the right character to deliver that message, and certainly not so cynically.)
And Palpatine, apparently, is back.
So Anakin’s story reached a conclusion, but it was temporary. The Chosen One prophecy is potentially unfulfilled. There was a redemption, but there was no rise, no triumph. But there could be!
If Rey is somehow Anakin, or meant to finish what Anakin started (see what I did there?), it would explain a lot!
There’s Anakin’s lightsaber, which “calls to Rey,” and triggers visions, which are an Anakin thing in the movies. Despite Kylo Ren’s claim on it, whenever he and Rey fight over the saber, it hesitates, but ultimately ends up with Rey.
There’s the lovely line in TFA about the same eyes in different people.
There’s Rey’s fighting style, that overhand pressing forward that Anakin loved so much.
There’s Kylo Ren’s obsession with Darth Vader, and come to think of it, isn’t it weird that there’s zero inkling of Anakin’s Force ghost telling Ben to sit down and reevaluate his choices? Except, perhaps, that nebulous call to the light and Rey’s determination to give him a chance to do that, even though he doesn’t end up taking it.
There’s Rey’s facility with droids and Binary, and teaching herself to fly.
There’s that new trailer --Rey and Kylo fighting like Ben and Anakin, but with water all around instead of fire. And then Rey in a dark cloak with a saberstaff, looking ready to kick someone’s butt.
I’m not any good at conclusions, but I think it’s really plausible that the “road trip” aspect of TROS is going to be chasing the slow revelation of who Rey used to be and how she can finally bring balance to the Force --by ending the Jedi and the Sith, and creating a third way that is an appropriate blending of the two.

you know...just because a character has thematic parallels with another character...or a ship has thematic parallels with another ship...it doesn’t mean they’re literally related to them or literally that ship/character reincarnated........

I absolutely love ur blog and I’m so happy more people are accepting the reyincarnation theory I know it’s pretty predominant on reddit but it warms my heart when others see merit in it :’)
djfjgfjfkl! Thank you!! I love that theory, wayward jedi from youtube was the one who sold it for me xD

so I’m placing my bets on Rey Solo being canon, and being revealed in The Last Jedi, and at this point I’ve pretty much decided to disown the next two movies if she’s not a Solo and the canon plot doesn’t convince me, which Rey Skywalker probably won’t and Rey Kenobi/just Rey definitely won’t. Reyincarnation is a bold idea and has the potential to win me over but only if it’s done just right.
I’m always going to consider Rey Solo canon no matter what the movies do. I’ve been convinced from the moment I saw Daisy Ridley’s face, back when she was called ‘Kira.’ Ever since The Force Awakens has been a thing I’ve been looking for Solo siblings and I’ve found them. They are there. I’ll still be writing Rey Solo fanfiction and meta and headcanons and shitposts from now on, even if the theory is debunked.
I’m so unbelievably nervous that it will be debunked and I won’t get the story I want and won’t be able to enjoy the next two movies, but I already consider Star Wars my sandbox.
I believe in Rey Solo. I have since the beginning and always will.

Star Wars & Sailor Moon
Thank you!!
Star Wars
I like to view the prequels as non-existent, as if they have no impact on the entire Star Wars continuity whatsoever. Padme Amidala? Mace Windu? I don’t know her.
The Reyincarnation theory annoys me because it makes it seem like Rey needs to be propped up by Anakin in order to be an interesting character, which isn’t true.
On that note, I feel like the fandom puts WAY too much emphasis on Anakin by hammering him into literally everything, as if he’s Jesus or something. Like suddenly the original trilogy isn’t about good guys vs bad guys in space anymore, it’s about some bullshit ~prophecy~ that Space Jesus will bring balance to the force by terrorizing the entire galaxy for twenty years and then killing the emperor in the end. WHY CAN’T IT JUST STAY GOOD GUYS VS BAD GUYS IN SPACE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT.
Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie even though the plot takes a bit to start up. I just absolutely love the score, the costumes, the sets, and the tension, and I feel like this movie is where the characters are at their strongest. With the loss of both Obi-wan and Yoda also puts a lot more pressure on Luke to stop relying on his masters and to take matters into his own hands and it’s really refreshing.
Sailor Moon
I like Mamoru a lot and think he’s a hilarious dork.
The filler in the original anime adds a lot to the characters’ personalities and helps the viewer get attached to them. A lot of people complain about how filler-y the series is, but the more character-driven episodes make you care a lot more about their safety when actual shit starts going down in the season finales. Like, if I hadn’t sat through 30 episodes of the girls being friends, I wouldn’t have given nearly as much of a shit when they all died in the finale of the classic season.
I really don’t like Seiya at all, especially because of how he responds to Usagi’s breakdown towards the end of the Stars season, where she’s sobbing on the rooftop over the fact that Mamoru hasn’t called or written to her in months and he’s just like “am I not good enough?” like Fuck Off please
I know that R is a fan favorite but personally it’s my second least favorite, just before SuperS. It’s not even that I don’t like Chibiusa (I do), but the character whiplash from Usagi and Mamoru just getting back together in the Doom Tree arc to breaking up two episodes later is unrealistic to me. I think of R like a discount version of S with a more douchey Mamoru and a smaller amount of interesting characters.

no matter how deeply invested i am in the rey kenobi theory if it means that r//ylo will also become canon as a consequence i’ll personally become a bastion of support for rey skywalker/rey random/reyincarnation and renounce all former support for rey kenobi

DON'T DELETE ME FOR THIS??
Here is what I think and I was going to write a meta about the other night. No matter what, unless Rey just has some dead or deadbeat parents, it is going to require explanation. And if her parents are random and aren't going to play some sort of big factor into the movies, I don't know why LF would keep it such a secret on the down low to the point where the cast can say absolutely nothing. Some ReySkys are getting worried that Daisy's comments about it being obvious means that she is an everyman type of character, which I don't believe is the case considering that the direct general audience came out believing Rey was a Skywalker, and Rey Random seems to be on the smaller scale of the fan spectrum. Since TFA came out, there has only been truly one incident that negated Rey Skywalker. If you don't believe me, I have posted three different polls that were taken on Rey's parentage and it is always the leading theory. The one thing that temporarily squashed Rey Skywalker was when JJ said that her parents were not in The Force Awakens, which he almost instantly reiterated, clarifying that she didn't discover them in TFA, not that they may not already be in her world. Which is curious since Ryan Johnson wanted to know exactly what happens right after Rey finds Luke. So regardless, let's skip to what I am trying to get at. There are three major questions the next films need to answer. Those being: 1) Who are Rey's parents? 2) How did she end up on Jakku? 3) Why was she left there? Rey Random would be the easiest answer to those questions if her family were dead nobodies and I am not ruling that out, but considering that Ryan Johnson also said that the answer would be satisfying, I don't know how that could be true if we didn't know anything about them at all. I would also like to mention that we don't even know if it was Rey's parents who left her there at all. Just because it is the easiest doesn't mean it is the most obvious, especially considering Rey's Skywalker traits. According to canon material, Rey is waiting for her family, but it is never explicitly said that it was a mother or a father who left her there. She also thinks being left on Jakku was a tragic mistake. In the novelization of the movie, Rey recalls a voice telling her that they will be back. So in that aspect, I don't think Rey Random will happen, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be on our toes about it. Let's get onto those questions I mentioned before about Rey's possible lineage. Rey Palpatine 1) Rey's parents are people we know nothing about. She comes from an ancestry that doesn't exist, but does somehow she is related to a Sith master who has been dead thirty years. 2) Why was she left on Jakku? Good question... But why would that make us care about her familial ties otherwise? Palps has been dead a long time and his reign is over. Bringing him back into the current plot somehow is jamming another character into the plot that is pretty filled at this point, and what kid is going to go into TLJ thinking how awesome it was that Rey was related to Sheev? Reyincarnated/Luke clone/Force baby 1) Maybe you missed the bit from the prequels where everybody and their dog hated the midichlorian and Space Jesus concept. And reincarnation of Anakin is just... such a stretch. If you can admit that she has strong ties to Anakin and Luke, why are you fighting so hard for a big twist in her relations to them? The easiest answer is that she is a direct descendant of the Skywalker lineage, and as this is a continuation of Luke's ended story, well... I don't quite think any of those theories were ever in the minds of the writers. Just imagine the filmmakers trying to explain that in the movie without most people cringing. Now my favorite topic, Rey Ken/obi: 1) Rey is SOMEHOW related to Obi-Wan, somebody she will never meet ever, whose voice she heard in the visions upon touching the Skywalker lightsaber. Obi-Wan said the same thing to her that he told Luke once he began his training. I have really tried to see the perks of Rey Ken/obi, but there aren't any. Sure though, let's presume that Obi-Wan had a one night stand or a secret family. I can pretend. Her parents are again people we don't know anything about, and Luke probably doesn't know who they are either. Ryan Johnson has repeatedly said that Luke and Rey have the key relationship in VIII as LF has called this the Skywalker saga. Obi-Wan will not be appearing in these movies whatsoever, so please enlighten me on how emotionally satisfying that is for the audience. She won't even know that much about Obi-Wan from Luke, either -- Obi-Wan lied to him about his father for years, and Luke knew him best as a strange hermit. 2) She was left on Jakku presumably by someone in this alleged Ken/obi family. Once again, nobody we will care about, since we have no idea who Obi's baby mama was, we don't know anything about kids he could have had, and any other relation to Obi-Wan makes no difference than a random character. So, I am not trying to sound biased, but that is what I think. Now the last bit of my essay. Ergo, I would like to point out that none of those theories answer some other major scenes in --those of which J am about to explain. Rey Skywalker 1) Luke Skywalker is Rey's father, which answers a lot of questions. Like why she is so Force sensitive, why the lightsaber called to her, why the lightsaber went to over Kylo, and why she dreamed Luke's island on Jakku. Tell me how ANY of those other theories could equate to everything she has in common with Luke? And no, a British accent doesn't count. Lest mention that answers one half of the parents, and she will be spending onscreen moments with a father who possibly failed her. 2) There are numerous possibilities to who could have left her on Jakku. Her mother, who is currently anonymous -- and some people think it could have been Kylo, but I doubt it due to his age at the time. However, I personally think she (and possibly Skymom) were abducted, since JJ said in the DVD commentary that she was being "taken away" from her family. No one think Luke left her on Jakku, and no, the Force is not Amber Alert. He wouldn't be able to locate his child across the galaxy. That's pretty much it for now. Hopefully that was constructive and y'all can sleep easy tonight. Regardless, don't stress so much about it. Either she is a Skywalker or a random but it doesn't do well to dwell on the shitty theories that definitely won't happen at this point.

queenofvase replied to your photoset “Rey + Parentage and Origin Theories”
IMO she’s either Luke’s daughter or a plot-hole… BUT my guilty-pleasure theories are still reyincarnation or clone!Padme/Vader or Aphra/Vader’s daughter.
Rey Skywalker is the theory I believe as well. It just makes the most sense and fits with what’s been established so far. That said, I’m pleased with all the support for Reyincarnation. That’s a definite guilty pleasure that I fully enjoy.
BTW, who is Aphra?
