I seem to be in a vampire ducks mood lately. While looking at Count Duckula stuff online, I discovered this guy, Filmation’s Quacula. Quacula is a vampire duck living in the basement of a rundown mansion on the edge of a swamp, a mansion owned by a bear named Theodore. In the book “Lou Scheimer: Creating The Filmation Generation”, it is stated that Quacula didn’t drink blood: he instead fed off the fear he inspired in others, in particular in Theodore. I know he’s not exactly a popular character, but I like him. His antics make me laugh, and I love his mischevious grin. Heckle: Not this one.

Quacula is an animated fictional character, an anthropomorphic vampire duck, created by Filmation. He starred in his own segment on The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle for one season. Not to be confused with the unrelated cartoon series also about a vampire duck, Count Duckula. Quacula (voiced by Frank Welker) was depicted as a pale blue duck with a Daffy Duck-like bill and fangs, dressed in a blue jacket and a black cape with a red lining. He slept by day in a white coffin shaped like an egg, in the basement of a house owned by an anthropomorphic bear named Theodore (voiced by Norm Prescott). Every night Quacula would rise from his coffin and try to terrify Theodore and others, but he would never really succeed; his antics tended to be more comical than frightening. Also, Theodore would come up with one plan after another to rid himself of Quacula, but always fail to do so. Quacula made his debut on September 8, 1979, on the first episode of The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle. However, cartoonist Scott Shaw filed suit against Filmation due to the fact that he had created a character named Duckula for the comic book Quack! #1 (July 1976), published by Star*Reach. Flopcast episode 419! We’re continuing our look at the Saturday morning cartoon landscape forty years ago, but we’re changing the channel to see what was happening on CBS. (Sorry, no remote control, kids. Gotta get off the couch and turn the stupid knob.) CBS ran a bunch of Filmation shows that year, including some odd remakes of older properties (Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle, Tom and Jerry) and surprisingly strong versions of a couple of action/adventure legends (Tarzan and The Lone Ranger). Hanna Barbera supplied a new (and strangely violence-free) Popeye series, as well as one of our very favorite monster cartoons… Drak Pack! And of course, Bugs Bunny and Road Runner ruled the morning for ninety whole minutes. So get yourself some Frankenberry and join us. If you keep the TV going deep into the afternoon, you might even spot Kornflake’s grandfather on Candlepin Bowling. So, you know, on with the show, this is it.

(story “Encré dans le Mystère" english translate ) prologue: the legend of bendy
Not so long ago, when humans were looking for a way to entertain their own, men and women began to draw little black and white characters in order to make them live beautiful adventures to amaze the children ... when the characters began to come alive thanks to the power of their imagination of the designers. The new beings were named toons and their creators animators!
Many studios were formed, creating their own toons that lived their own adventures made children laugh with gags. Among the most famous, there was Bendy the little devil. It was a small toon with very childish character and had everything to be happy: a brilliant career, many friends (his best friend being : Boris the Wolf) and a studio that loved him as a family , Especially his animator Henry and his director Joey. But alas, happiness without any spot did not last.
One day, the creator and animator of bendy leaves the studio to go to work in the neighbors and look for new ideas for his little devil, the little toon did not overcome the idea of being separated To the one who be very attached he He was trying to be always so joyful and continued his gags for months ... but one day the pain of his loss becomes unbearable!
Without anyone expecting it, bendy suddenly becomes mad, he began to absorb more ink than he needed, making him suddenly terribly violent and aggressive. He then used his control on ink To invade the studio, forcing the animators and the director to flee ... but he continued to attack them, forcing the other humans to intervene to calm him down in vain. Joey decided to cut the ink in order to weaken bendy but with all the ink he had absorbed, it was still very strong. The animators managed to lock up the crazy toon in the studio, let him scream of rage
august 1959
Suddenly changed to show a children's room of the 1950s. Sitting on the floor stood two toon children ... well, a toon child and a kitten half-toon. The pure toon is a small pie with a yellow beak, with black plumage except its belly which is gray. The kitten has white hair, tiger-beige-gray fur on her hind legs, her tail, half of her belly on her ears, and one behind her on the cheeks, her face 'Feline appearance and arm (without fur but armed with claws like cats) are Caucasian skin color, the white of eyes are yellow and its blue irises.While the chick is not wearing any clothing (being a toon, it was not necessary to wear), the little tunman wears a red t-shirt and brown short.
In front of them stands the father of the chick: Heckle, one of the two speaking pies of terrytoons studios! Today, he takes advantage that her husband is not here for have a head-to-head with her son, the little Aiden, and the friend-kitten of the latter, Keffan, who is the adopted son of Sourpuss and Gandy Goose. The mother of the young bird was not there and judging her boy big enough, the pie toon had decided to tell him the legend of bendy, the toon demon! While little Keffan seems frightened, tetanized, Aiden seems fascinated.
"Since that day, no one come in this studio, which has remained closed," says Heckel, looking threatening. "The few people who dared to enter it never emerged or were found in a near-death state." Bendy attack holy humans, but his madness is uncontrollable "He goes on raising his tone, startling Keffan. Some stormy nights, the wind even bears the howl of bendy until toonville! Despite all those years of forgetfulness, bendy is always alive, he wait his hour hidden in the shadow of his formerly studio" say Heckel.
While Keffan is frozen on the spot, visibly terrorized, Aiden is passionate
"Wow!" He marveled, surprising his friend who stared at him as if he were mad. "Is this story true, Dad?"
"But of course it is true!" magpie smiled, amused by the look of his boy, before regaining a threatening air. "And that he will be free, toonville will find himself under his anger, engulfed by his ink and nothing will be able to stop him"
Aiden smiled, marvel (to the surprise of his father) when ...
"Heckle!" What did we say about telling stories that scares the little ones! "Jeckle grumbles as he enters the room.
Heckle jumped (not hearing his companion come in), then he smiled, turning towards him before he whistled. The other fellow saw him and stamped his foot; Annoyed. Aiden restrained himself from laughing, then, wishing to help his father, he rose and ran to tighten the legs of jeckle.
"good evening mom !" "He chirped, making his eyes gentle.
Heckle try to not laughing as Jackle looks down at their son ... but the smile and big sparkling eyes of Aiden make him crack. Sighing, he smiles as he grabs his little one Who clasped him in his little arms before Kiss him on the cheek.
"Little punk !" jeckle smile.you have the chance to be so cute.
"We see from whom it hold." Intervenes Heckle by catching her husband by the waist before depositing a kiss on his cheek.
Jeckle glares at him, seeming to say "Wait a little, you!"
Under the laughter of the two children. Heckle looks at him with a charming air, knowing that his spouse could not remain angry with him for a long time ... but for now, the magpie and well reassembled!
"I thought we had agreed not to tell these stories to the children!" He grumbles.
"It's just a story! Aiden is big enough to hear it."
"Ah yes?, so it's you who will take care of him if he wakes up with nightmares tonight!" "And Keffan, what are we going to say to Gandy and SourPuss? "sorry, but we scared your little one with the story of bendy while he Was with us "?
"scared ? I'm not scared ! " Indignant the kitten tunman by bending the torso.
Except that during this time, Aiden recovered a small ball under his bed, inflated it and slipped behind his friend ... before release the ball that deflates loudly. This ridiculous sound that he had already heard repeatedly flinched Keffan, who leaped up and ruffled his fur, whistling with fear before hiding under the bed growling. Aiden burst out laughing with Heckle but the adult magpie and silenced by a blow Elbow of her husband.
Keffan, hear that make fun of him , comes out from under the bed and growls, making the big back, ... before leaping over Aiden in miry furiously. The little pie jumps up and flies away laughing ... except That his kitten friend begins to chase him throughout the room, turning around the pious parents as if they were not there. Jeckle wants to intervene but Heckle holds him back.
"it doesn't matter." Smile the magpie. "These are children's bickering"
Keffan leaps on the bed and climbs enough to reach Aiden and both roll on the ground ... and the kitten finds himself clad on the ground, the little pie lying on his chest with a big smile.
"i Won!"
"Oh , this okay uh !" Grumbled the half-toon as she straightened up, making the chick slide on her knees.
Aiden smiled proudly before jumping onto the floor to join his parents.
"Dad!, Mom!, and if Keffan stayed here tonight?"
"Ah, not stupid, my sont!" Heckle smiled. "That way, if there are nightmares, it will stay between us! Gandy and SourPuss will be nothing!"
Jeckle looks heckle like to say "this is it, try to catch you" before sighing.
"I warn Gandy that Keffan is staying here."
Aiden leaped with joy, shouting "YAAAY!" Under the laughter of his father before Keffan leaped over him and the plate on the ground with a small smile.
"You do not win every time, feather ball!" He laughs as the little magpie pulls out his tongue.
