Hinata was not the type of girl who could handle horror stories, urban legends, or anything spookier than a rom-com set against the background of a popular coffee shop. However, there was something about this creepypasta that caught her attention. Maybe she read it to prove that she wasn’t a scaredy-cat or maybe she read it because something about it was almost too real.
It came across her Curestagram feed, screenshots reposted from another site with long form text functions rather than the optimized for photos aesthetic of Curestagram. It wasn’t late at night, quite the opposite, Hinata had just been scrolling as she was half nibbling on a banana muffin for morning tea. So she was kind of bored and not already unsettled by a vague anxiety sort of mindset so she stopped her scroll to read this totally true story from a friend of a friend that had happened upon her timeline.
The story involved a sickness. A lovesickness, hooking Hinata immediately since she was a hopeless romantic and leaving her vulnerable to what was hiding down below a few paragraphs after and Hinata realised she was reading a surreal medical horror story.
Supposedly, some girl from a high school in the next town over had been hospitalized due to damage to her stomach and esophagus but ultimately culminated in her passing away from brain damage due to suffocation. The suffocation that was the outcome of the damage she had taken to her stomach and esophagus had, supposedly, been caused by the growing of flowers inside of her. Doctors couldn’t explain it. They were baffled by the impossibility of it. Yet where they failed to posit theories at all, their patient had her own she desperately desired to reveal.
The nameless girl, as weak as she was in her final moments of speech and cognition, was certain with the most crystal clear clarity that she could muster said that reason for the flowers growing inside of her was due to a crush that she had been fostering for quite some time. A crush that was so powerful and deep that it had manifested as literal and impossible distress in the form of tiger lily flowers. Though her claims were dismissed as nonsense, despite the very given evidence that she had been vomiting exotic flowers, except by the narrator who was sharing her story online on her behalf.
Hinata got to the bottom line of the final screenshot and she dropped her phone on the table. She shivered and flinched as her phone clattered. Nyatoran looked up, alarmed, from the milk that he had been sipping.
“Heh? Are you okay Hinata?” he asked.
“Y-Yeah, I just lost my grip.” Hinata replied. It wasn’t a lie.
“Really? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Nyatoran pointed out.
Hinata made an expression that was both guilty and embarrassed, “Er, sort of… I read a ghost story online and I haven’t the stomach for them.”
“Oh, well, no worries then. I’ll keep ya safe from all the ghoulies then.” Nyatoran boasted.
Hinata laughed, “Thanks, Nyatoran.” she replied.
And that was more or less enough to keep her mind off what she had read for the rest of the day as she did her Sunday homework and such. At least until well after lights out.
Hinata cursed herself. She knew endless walls of text in screenshots never bore good news but it was under her skin now. It wasn’t even that scary, she tried to convince herself. It just so happened to play off something she had been thinking about in ways that cut deep and yes, even scary.
Hinata had a crush of her own. One she didn’t think she ought to act on. Or didn’t know how to act on.
Hinata had a crush on Nodoka. She was sweet and gentle yet so motivated. Hinata felt like she learned something new about either herself or Nodoka after every time they hung out. Things never felt old between them despite how natural their companionship was between them.
Catching feelings for Nodoka was inevitable, Hinata felt regarding their dynamic as close friends and their friendship was relatively intense due to their bond as comrades being Pretty Cures but that made Hinata sick to her stomach with fear. This wasn’t her first crush that she had on another girl.
In the not so recent past, Hinata had been wrong reading other girls’ opinions and feelings regarding her before. She and Eriko had been so close, childhood friends with a pact that seemed fit to stand the test of time when they had made it, and Hinata didn’t think it was a coincidence that already scarce contact between them after Eriko moved was when Hinata had confessed her feelings to Eriko.
The rejection had been crushing and Hinata had never told a soul about it. The wound was older now but it still hurt so, as lovely as Nodoka was, Hinata didn’t want to gamble their friendship due to that prior rejection. Yet her feelings crackled like electricity near a lightning rod whenever she was around Nodoka anyway. She could only hope that Nodoka was oblivious since she was so inexperienced socially due to her childhood spent mostly in the hospital.
(And that Chiyu never brought up the blatantly obvious which she would hopefully never do since she knew there was a place and a time and it wasn’t her place).
Thus, for all these different and entangling reasons, that horror story Hinata had read this morning really resonated. The thought of her unrequited feelings becoming literal, even in the form of pretty and seemingly harmless flowers, and suffocating. It was a very real fear to Hinata despite that fantastical execution that it was captured inside.
All because she was a magical girl infused with the power of light and thunder. She fought villains who caused infections in nature and created monsters. To her, it didn’t seem too far outside of her sphere of tried and true reality that such a floral disease of the body could exist. Heck, maybe it did exist and was tied to the war that she and her friends were fighting in secret on behalf of the Healing Animals. It was entirely possible this flower vomit disease was another agent or power of the Byougens.
Hinata groaned and the more she scolded herself for thinking about these horrible possibilities, the more she thought about them. She tossed and turned all night, in the dark and under the covers of her doona. She knew Nyatoran would live up to his boasting over morning tea if she asked but he was totally conked out in his little room. Hinata couldn’t bring herself to wake him, to unnecessarily burden him, so she just hid from her fears as best as she could in her blankets.
The following morning, Hinata was a wreck. She had bags under her eyes and was generally a drag. She hasn’t slept a wink last night but just like she was hiding from the horror story in her head, she decided to hide from the aftermath too. She touched up her eyes with concealer and finished off her make-up with a nice little kiss of lip balm, too. She chose a nice tropical flavour: pineapple with vanilla undertones and wore nude in practice. With that, she was ready for what was no doubt going to be a long, long day of school.
A prediction that she was very right in having. Just making it to lunch felt like an eternity and a half on low energy. Worst still, despite the precautions that Hinata had taken, both Chiyu and Nodoka had noticed that she wasn’t exactly her bouncy self today. Even with her favourite lunch box in her lap with fried chicken and a fruit drink, too.
“Are you okay, Hinata?” Nodoka asked and she batted her long eyelashes in concern.
Hinata knew she couldn’t lie or deflect around Nodoka, at least for the most part, and deflated, “No…” she moaned. “I slept awfully last night.”
“I expect that it wasn’t due to over studying?” Chiyu asked, sniping.
“No, I just. Couldn’t sleep.” Hinata shrugged.
“Well, be sure to put yourself early to bed tonight then. There’s nothing worse than being tired.” Nodoka said.
   “Will do.” Hinata sighed.
   “Also?” Nodoka prompted her.
“Yeah?” Hinata glanced at Nodoka was she tried a spoonful of rice from her side dishes.
“Your lip balm has a very strong smell today, I can smell it from here.” Nodoka laughed.
“Oh, joy…” Hinata hung her head in misery. She didn’t think it was so pungent in the tube.
“I didn’t mean that in a mean way.” Nodoka panicked whilst Chiyu had a discrete giggle at Hinata’s misfortune. “I really like it. I think it smells nice. Like cherries. I love the smell of cherries best.”
“Huh?” Hinata mumbled and she stared straight at Nodoka in confusion.
Nodoka stared back. Also in confusion. “Is something the matter?”
“Er, no,” Hinata awkwardly began and she forced herself to laugh and she flapped a hand about too to disguise her weirdness, “I must have been so tired this morning that I though I used one lip balm and instead used another.”
“That is a little odd…” Chiyu murmured.
But Nodoka seemed to buy it, she gasped, “Fwow, you must have been really tired this morning to make such a mistake. Promise me to get a good night’s rest tonight then.” Nodoka fussed for her.
“I promise, I promise.” Hinata replied.
Just as Hinata spoke, the end of lunch bell rang. She moaned with the utmost misery as she hadn’t finished her lunch even slightly and roused much sympathy from both Nodoka and Chiyu. So, Hinata crammed what she could into her mouth and swallowed before returning with her friends indoors to their classroom.
She plopped down in her chair and desk, her stomach growling almost immediately. Were it not for the teacher at the front of the classroom, Hinata would have flopped down and keeled over right there and then. She would have killed for a nap. Not even a luxurious nanna nap at this point, she would take a horrid power nap. Anything would have been better than nothing. Instead, the best she could muster was some daydreaming whilst scribbling in her work book so she could at least pretend to be paying attention.
Her mind strayed to Nodoka. She couldn’t help it. A silly little pining schoolgirl was exactly what she was after all. She doodled Nodoka’s name in her margins, surrounded with love-hearts, paw prints, and even flowers. It was a little bit childish but Hinata was a lot childish so she didn’t mind, she was more or less on cloud nine since Nodoka had shown her care for her over lunch, fussing for her like that.
It was such a small act but it was more than enough to launch Hinata’s heart in a million miles an hour race. So much so, she began to taste something at the back of her throat. It was a sweet taste accompanied by a fizzy sensation. Hinata liked it and it seemed to get stronger the more she daydreamed about Nodoka. Even though it was the middle of class, Hinata was letting her mind completely run away from the contents of what the teacher was attempting to educate on them.
Finally, after what felt like a day of self torment because of reading some stupid horror story about puking flowers, Hinata felt free of that gnawing anxiety. But just as she revelled in this, her stomach wretched. She dry gagged with the searing taste of bile at the back of her throat and her hand automatically clamped over her mouth, pen and all. The prior anxiety might have dissipated but a new one had spiked in its place.
Hinata frowned. Was it because she hadn’t eaten all her lunch that she suddenly felt nauseous? Or was it something else? She begged that it wasn’t her period, she was still quite irregular so this felt off or early to her.
Then she gagged again. She swallowed it back down. Hard. Whatever she swallowed was thick and sweet. It wasn’t vomit, Hinata had the startling realisation. She tried hard to keep it down but she failed. She vomited into her hand, or at least something similar. The motions were awful, worse than anything else she had ever had to eject from her body orally before.
Hinata felt sick to the very bottom of her stomach. Her hands shook as she slowly removed the one over her mouth and… and she couldn’t believe her eyes. They widened in shock as she saw the head of a flower in the palm of her hand. It was a cherry blossom, she realised. The pale pink petals were frayed at the edges, burnt by stomach acid and wet with her saliva; the anthers of its centre drooped and dragged, splayed across the petals. Her skin crawled as she marveled at the insane gravity of the situation. She quickly paled.
And the teacher noticed, “Hiramitsu, are you okay?” he asked from in front of the chalkboard, looking up concerned from the book he was reciting from.
“I-I, um, I need to go. To the nurse.” Hinata eked out her words with strained difficulty.
Her stomach flipped and she could feel another one coming up. It slithered up her throat and she hated the slow, dreadful sensation of it, the way it made her mouth taste of bile and cherries in horrible combination. Hinata bolted to her feet, afraid, alarming the whole class. She hid her mouth behind her hand again, holding tight that first flower that she had vomited.
“I need to go.” Hinata mumbled and she fled.
The feeling of her classmates' eyes on her felt like broken glass digging. She knew, deep down, they didn’t mean harm but their gazes only served to amplify the terror she felt as she fled. She was fast at first, escaping from the classroom but her stomach lurched and she vomited another flower and then again but two at once this time.
Hinata stopped in the hallway, she had to rest her shoulder against the wall just to stand as she looked down into the palm of her hand. The flowers were accumulating against her skin, wet and heavy, and accelerating in pace of production. Already she felt another lurch and this one was dire, Hinata didn’t think she would be so lucky to only vomit one or two this next time.
She had to get to the sick bay. She wasn’t sure what she would do there but anything had to be better than nothing, so she hobbled on in immense pain. By nothing less than a miracle, Hinata managed to get to the nurse’s suite without collapsing. Or with leaving too many flowers in her meagre wake.
The school nurse panicked almost immediately when she saw Hinata in this state. Hinata sputtered out a thank you whilst she was put to bed. Hinata curled up under the sheets, her stomach lurching and mangled petals dripped out of her mouth. She had to hide her ailment from the nurse. She just had to. She didn’t know how to explain it or anything else pertaining to it but fortunately, the nurse bought her some time by going to use administration’s phone to let her father know that Hinata was in immediate medical distress.
Hinata held her scrawny belly with one hand and her mouth the other. No matter how hard she tried, these flowers kept dredging up from inside of her and it was worsening. There was distention building inside of her, it was as if she could feel the bushels of cherry blossom flowers forming inside of her and something else too. It was raw and firm and poking up through her like a stick. Hinata moaned in utter agony as she tasted not just sweetness and bile in her mouth, but the cutting, metallic taste of blood too.
She whimpered as she tried to swallow it down. Attempting so, just made the nicks and cuts to her throat worsen and the petals to clog. Her lungs ached sharply as she struggled to breathe. Her eyes squeezed tight and she begged every deity she could think of for a saviour.
The door to the sick bay opened again. Hinata murmured to herself and the curtain was pulled aside, “Hinata?” a sweet voice greeted her.
   “Huh?” Hinata slurred.
She rolled over, still holding herself but even a simple and slow motion like that was enough to rouse her illness violently. Her grimace was deep on her face as she tried to look at Nodoka, even feebly.
“A-Are you okay, Hinata?” she asked. “I couldn’t sit by and worry when I saw you ill you were, what’s wrong?”
Hinata opened her mouth. Mostly to reply, but that’s not what happened. She threw up in front of Nodoka and Nodoka couldn’t believe her eyes. Hinata was throwing up bushels upon bushels of flowers. Cherry blossoms. Nodoka blinked. She couldn’t believe the sights - or the smell. The smell was disconcerting with how almost pleasantly fragrant it was, heightening Nodoka’s realisation that this wasn’t Hinata pulling pranks.
“H-How on Earth did this happen…?” Nodoka asked.
She was horrified yet found herself unable to resist the impulse. She picked a blossom out of the pile that Hinata had vomited up. It was soft in her hand, even if it was grotesquely wet.
“I - I don’t-” Hinata tried to speak but she cut herself off when she felt something jut out of her mouth. An entire branch of cherry blossoms began to spike out of her mouth.
Her eyes began to roll back on themselves as Nodoka watched, in abject and frozen horror, as Hinata contended with this stick inside of her. It emerged slowly from the depths of her throat and made her chest convulse. Her fingers spasmed as she choked around it, flowers blooming along the thin and coarse branch.
   “H-Help me.” Hinata sputtered out.
Nodoka nodded. She was scared, her heart was pounding, but she was first and foremost a helper of most empathetic ends. She had been on the receiving end of a strange and bizarre illness that had rendered most her childhood for naught. She couldn’t just let Hinata struggle. Suffocate.
So, she got onto the bed with Hinata. She straddled her so she could best approach the foreign object inside of Hinata. She focused her eyes and was as ready as she could ever be for an amateur operation quite like this one. Nodoka reached out and pinched the end of the branch delicately. It was entirely unsafe, Nodoka knew that, but she began to pull. She peered into Hinata’s pink mouth was clogged with twigs and petals, and tried her best to dislodge what she could.
Hinata gagged. Tears in her eyes and she plead, silently and afraid, that Nodoka could handle this. Nodoka’s hands shook but she did, in fact, manage. She tried her hardest and she did succeed even if it felt pyrrhic as Hinata screamed out as the last, and thickest, part of the cherry blossom branch was removed.
Nodoka flinched hearing the scream, dropping the cherry blossom branch between them. Hinata spat out blood and petals but the cherry blossom branch had been removed. She caressed her neck and it was raw with what it had been through. Her touches did little to soothe or quell her pain, she looked up at Nodoka with pathetic, red rimmed eyes.
“What was that?” Nodoka asked, her heart quaking. “How could any of this be possibly real?”
“I - I don’t know.” Hinata mumbled but that was a lie. She choked on her words all the same as she had choked on those cherry blossoms. Her hands squeezed tight. “No. I’m sorry. I do know.”
   “Pardon?” Nodoka quietly exclaimed.
“There’s a very rare disease,” Hinata began, hasty, “that causes flowers to grow inside of someone suffering with a crush that they just can’t handle.”
   “That’s horrible…” Nodoka murmured.
It was now or never, Hinata realised. Or she was going to end up exactly like the girl from the story that she had read yesterday. She knew it. She just knew it.
“Nodoka, it’s you.” Hinata confessed, half a sob in her voice. “I’m crushing on you.”
Nodoka was stunned by Hinata’s admission.
Hinata panted, her face was going bright red whilst her heart pounded like a hammer at her rib cage. She couldn’t believe it. She had done it. But it felt like a weight off, she had to admit, she didn’t realise her crush had been such a burden until right now. She felt herself lighten with the confession, from the very pit of her stomach, upwards and outwards.
Nodoka averted her gaze and Hinata was reminded once more why a crush was called a crush. That borderline feel good feeling from before popped. Burst. Nodoka played with her hair, fidgeting, and then managed to speak in a very calm and very quiet voice.
“I have a crush on you, too, Hinata.” Nodoka replied. “I admire so much how you sparkle and shine. It’s very refreshing to be around. I like you too. A lot.”
Nodoka reached out to Hinata’s hand and held it. She was so warm and she was still trembling but Nodoka’s caress of it did soothe her. Hinata hazarded a smile, like she couldn’t believe her ears, through her scarlet expression. Nodoka leaned in and kissed Hinata.
Hinata was unable to kiss back, afraid of her own breath but Nodoka didn’t mind. It was pungent with cherry blossoms and wet but she found the kiss sufficiently sweet, kissing Hinata’s soft, balmy lips. They were tinged with pineapple and vanilla beneath that overwhelming sensation of cherry blossoms.
“Thank you, Nodoka…” Hinata murmured and somehow, she didn’t know or understand how but she wasn’t going to complain, she was cured, prettily, of her affliction.
The cherry blossom flowers on the bed or in her gut, disappeared. All with seemingly little aplomb. Even the branch that had to have been removed from her throat, all with a soft, fizzling noise that Hinata could hardly hear over the sound of her pounding heart. She still had the cuts and scrapes, but she was no longer growing flowers inside of her stomach. Hinata was cured and Nodoka was her blessed, angelic cure.

i received validation from two (2) people so here is a lil teaser from witchrry!!! y/n is just discovering his shop (verbena & birch apothecary) for the first time and also bonus points to anyone who can guess why i named it that lmao
“Yes.” She finally replies to him, breathing a sigh of relief as she steps forward. “Yes, that’s my cat.  I’m so sorry, he just escaped from my apartment and ran all the way here, and I couldn’t stop him before he got inside—”
“It’s alright.” Harry assures her, a small smile tugging at the corner of his strawberry lips as he scratches Butternut behind his ears. “Worse things have stepped into this shop, I can assure you.  And given how cute this particular intruder is, I don’t mind.”
Y/N’s smile matches the one on his face as the full relief of knowing that Butternut is safe washes over her. “Thank you, really.” She reaches out her arms and takes Butternut from Harry, pressing the cat into her chest protectively. “He didn’t break anything?”
“Oh, no, everything’s fine.” Harry says easily, waving one nail polished hand without an air of concern. “No harm, no foul, and all that.”
“That’s a relief.” Y/N bounces Butternut in her arms absentmindedly as she glances around the shop. “His second worst habit after jumping out windows is breaking things, and a lot of things here seem breakable.”
Y/N isn’t exaggerating. Now that the relief of finding Butternut has uncoiled her stomach, she can take a moment to really look around the shop.  Every wall is lined with a wooden built-in shelf, each one filled with an assortment of products, and the types of products varying from each wall.  One wall has shelves labeled with different kinds of teas, sorted by its uses, such as “awake and alive,” “blood pressure support,” and “happy tummy,” as well as sorted by flavour and blend.  Another shelf is lined with small dropper bottles labeled with different types of oils, and the shelf to the right of that one is lined with small brown bottles labeled as various tinctures.  The opposite wall hosts a wide variety of salves and balms, also sorted by uses such as “super healing,” “anti-anxiety,” and “mood boost.”  Along the back wall are rows of bulk bins usually found in the grocery store, except these bins are filled with large amounts of ground dried herbs, all labeled neatly to match everything else in the store. Despite the great quantities, however, there are also jars filled with unground herbs still attached to their host plants sitting neatly above the bins. The last wall, however, has the greatest variety of anything else in the story, and stocks row upon row of various crystals, stones, and minerals, all hosting neat labels with their properties and meanings underneath the names.  And if all that product wasn’t enough, there’s stand alone shelves throughout the store, displaying more tinctures, oils, and products, as well as candles, incense, and things that Y/N can’t even put a name to.
If Harry’s tone when he replies to her is any indication, then her curiosity about the products is written clear across her face. “See anything interesting?”

Often finds it hard to value his powers because they're not as visually strong and impressive as other people's

But he gradually becomes aware of how vital his powers can be, and learns to control them and make them as advantageous as possible

Soft bean that gets nervous and throws up before a fight
But he's hella determined and won't back down
Honestly, just wants to protect Tsukki and make him proud PROTECT HIM

Sometimes shrinks really small to avoid social situations she doesn't want to be in samez, honey
The clumsiest and least experienced on the team
But she tries her best, gradually getting to grips with her powers
Sometimes uses her powers by accident, like when she's nervous
Once touched a watermelon slice on the refreshment table and accidentally blew it up to the size of a car Hinata, Kageyama and Noya fully dug in with their faces 😭😭
Nearly passed out when Daichi, the literal god of the Hero Association, told her she had great potential

Was convinced to get back in the game when he found Hinata and Kageyama fighting, both struggling with their abilities. He broke up the fight and agreed to coach them
Doesn't do much of the flashy hero stuff anymore, but will occasionally get stuck in when he's needed must protecc his children
Is only, like, ten years older than the other heroes, but they treat him like some fossilised sensei out of Natuto, or some shit
Tbf, he has the back problems of one 😭😭

Powers: power absorption
Transferred from being a hero to hero management after having having issues with the effects of his powers he has a conscience :(
He felt guilty and responsible for permanently taking the powers of others, even if they were criminals
It was like removing a piece of their souls it kind of broke him
These days, he makes sure nobody knows about his powers, so it can't be used against him
He helps in any other way possible
He would only use his powers again in dire circumstances he knows he'll eventually have to
Is generally chipper and good natured, though
If he was ever captured by a villain, they'd probably send him back because he talks too much omg, hahaha
Helps gather info for the team and direct them on missions and in fights

A New Kind Of Sleeping Pills Or Just A New Trend: Can CBD Help Your Insomnia?
Every night, millions of individuals from our planet are experiencing the same and well-known problem – insomnia. Some are counting sheep, others resort to taking sleeping pills. Nowadays many people prefer using CBD. How will taking CBD oil affect sleep and can it be helpful? Learn more about CBD, its benefits and potential use for sleep problems.
Everyone knows how essential sleep and its quality is for an organism. It affects daily productivity, energy and mood, immune system functioning and overall well-being.
Sleep issues can be a short-term problem as well as a prolonged struggle, which, to no one’s surprise, can deteriorate health and prevent the sufferer from living happily.
The need to have sufficient sleep hours can potentially lead to sleeping pills addiction. Consequently, it may cause dangerous side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness during the daytime, and potentially contribute to mortality risk.
CBD can be a more natural alternative to traditional sleeping pills. Today, it’s exceptionally trendy due to its effectiveness and variety of benefits. CBD is a natural remedy that can help maintain health without any risks of severe adverse effects or reactions.
The CBD market is represented by a vast amount of products with various CBD concentrations to fulfil people’s needs – from oils and lotions to vape pens and even edible products. CBD based products can potentially help patients to manage different forms of diseases and ailments. However, let’s first get the answer to the main question: what is CBD?
What Is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is an active botanical chemical that is found primarily in Cannabis Sativa plants. CBD is a non-addictive compound from a special group of similar components extracted from hemp. There are more than 100 naturally occurring ingredients called cannabinoids, which may be useful for many disorders.
Tumblr media
CBD doesn’t possess psychoactive qualities, which eliminates risks of “high” or euphoric effects, as well as any form of intoxication. Such reactions can be caused by high doses of another infamous cannabinoid Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Although CBD products can sometimes contain levels of THC chemicals, the low concentration doesn’t get users “high”, which ensures a safe treatment.
Exploring CBD Benefits
CBD is a widely used remedy due to its safety and purity, including a vast amount of advantages and uses. CBD affects cannabinoid receptors in the body due to the ongoing effects of cannabinoids and the production of a broad spectrum of chemical and physiological responses. CBD is fast becoming a popular treatment for both physical and mental diseases, including the following problems:
CBD for anxiety. After consumption, cannabinoid receptors send signals to the brain to decrease feelings of concern and calm the mind.
CBD for depression. Cannabidiol can be taken as a natural antidepressant, that can provide relief in cases of depressive disorders and mental imbalances.
CBD for sleep. CBD can regulate the sleep cycle and abnormal awakenings at night.
CBD for pain. CBD oil is an effective method to reduce pain, muscle tension, and various types of chronic aches. CBD can reduce extreme inflammation and prevent pain flow in the body.
Other uses. CBD may be useful for issues, such as nicotine withdrawal, epilepsy, diabetes, acne, and other dermatologic conditions. Furthermore, cannabidiol might ease the symptoms of cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
This makes CBD worth considering as a beneficial solution for people that need clear-headed support to alleviate the symptoms of many disorders.
CBD For Insomnia: Is It Worth Trying?
Tumblr media
There are a few reasons why people face severe difficulties to fall asleep.
First of all, sleep issues can be caused by mental imbalances (depression, anxiety, PTSD), prescribed medicines, caffeinated drinks, and irritating external factors such as noise or bright light.
Another reason can be pain or chronic aches that prevent rest and restful sleep. This problem is especially relevant for professional athletes due to regular and intense training sessions, including painful post-workout recovery.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays an essential role in regulating body functions, such as mood, appetite, and sleep. ECS includes a network of natural cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors mainly present in the brain and central nervous system.
After consuming CBD, cannabinoids transmit signals in the brain, which can produce a variety of effects including calming down thought processes (useful for anxiety and panic attacks) and reducing pain. Our body can get those messages either from existing cannabinoids or external cannabinoids from CBD infused products.
Cannabinoids also attach to cannabinoid receptors which can potentially affect the sleep/wake cycle. CBD also interacts with receptors in the brain to decrease anxiety and aches, both of which can affect sleep quality. By reducing specific symptoms, CBD may improve the number of sleep hours and promote needed rest.
Types Of CBD Oil Products
The CBD market offers various types, concentrations, and forms of CBD infused products. The choice of a specific product is based on individual preferences. Take your time to try out available CBD products and find the perfect one for you that meets your personal needs and boosts your health.
  CBD Edibles. Food products infused with CBD can be anything from gummies, cookies, and chocolate to protein powders and snacks. Furthermore, there are vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free variants mixed with natural ingredients and CBD compounds;
CBD Vape Pens and Juices. Smoking distillate oil or CBD infused vape juice from a vaporiser ensures a fast effect of CBD benefits. You can inhale CBD oil from vape pens or vaping devices with a disposable or refillable cartridge. Also, there are disposable ready-to-use vape pens, that provide instant pain relief without a big financial commitment. Bear in mind: prolonged vaping may cause a negative influence on respiratory health.
CBD Oils and Tinctures. A liquid form allows using the product as a supplement to food or beverages while enjoying CBD advantages. You can use a few oil drops when you cook desserts, make cocktails and any other meals.
CBD Capsules and Tablets. Pills and capsules can provide the body with an accurately calculated daily dosage of CBD. Capsules don’t have any flavour or specific taste and can be easily and discreetly consumed, unlike oil intake when you need to place a dropper in the mouth;
CBD Creams and Balms. Target topical application can provide fast absorption and effective treatment. Creams penetrate through the skin layers to help heal inflamed body parts.
CBD Side Effects
CBD oil is usually a well-tolerated product, however, some consumers may face minor side effects such as dry mouth, diarrhoea, reduced appetite, tiredness, drowsiness, or weight changes. Also, CBD may cause negative reactions in cases of simultaneous intake with prescribed medications or supplements. Such consumption can reduce the advantages of either CBD or other medicine.
It’s advised to consult your doctor before taking CBD products and discuss potential drawbacks, adverse effects and allergic reactions to particular components in the composition.
Is CBD Legal?
Allowed THC limits in hemp and marijuana vary from one country to another, according to their laws and regulations.
In 2018, the Farm Bill reclassified hemp from a banned plant to an agricultural commodity in the United States. This means customers can purchase CBD based products with determined levels up to 0.3% of THC in their composition.
As for the EU regulations, manufacturers are permitted to cultivate industrial hemp on a legal basis only if it includes less than 0.2% THC. If the CBD product meets all standards and norms set by the government, it can be sold and purchased legally.
Things To Remember If You Decide To Try CBD:
Visit a doctor or medical specialist before starting treatment with CBD.
Consume the lowest dose suggested on the product’s label and gradually increase the dosage until you experience a positive effect.
Take your time before you increase the dosage to give your body enough time to get used to taking CBD.
Don’t worry if you don’t experience results right away. People need different amounts of time to respond to medicine as well as CBD.
In conclusion, CBD can help to restore wellbeing and increase productivity while also managing pain. It can also provide relief from symptoms which can help the insomnia sufferer to experience a better quality of sleep.

Self-Care Interview Series: Erin Lovell Verinder
Erin Lovell Verinder is a herbalist, nutritionist and energetic healer living in the wilds of the Byron Bay hinterland in Australia, working with clients locally in her Sydney clinic and worldwide via Skype.
Routine
— Is routine important to you or do you like things to be more open and free?
I honestly love both. I keep certain parts of my day very structured especially around work days and where I can, I claim open space. I follow structure to bring in the foundations of support that are essential for me to thrive and maintain my balance. Like slow mornings, connecting to nature, enjoying a whole nourishing breakfast. But then I open up my days where possible to flow & allow spontaneity.
— What do your mornings look like? If they differ from day to day, describe your ideal morning.
I keep my mornings slow and sacred, it’s been a very intentional movement towards this over the years. I wake with the sunlight pouring into our bedroom, we live in an old church and the light in here is just next level serene. I always keep the blinds open to allow my body rhythms to harmonize with the sun and moon cycle. This regulates your cortisol and melatonin in such a fundamental way. I allow myself to wake slowly, no rush, no jump out of bed, no alarms, no startle response! I will then take time to do some stretching sequences with conscious breath, and then sit for a 20 minute meditation. Followed by a morning dog walk around our very green country town. Other mornings it’s a swim in the ocean with my husband and a lazy lay on the sand. After this, it’s breakfast time. I brew a tea, or make a tonic and take that out into the garden. I really feel it’s so important to have a whole breakfast, and we really honour that in our household, we sit and chat and connect over a meal before the day unfolds. I do my absolute best to only engage in anything work related after 8am and completely screen free before then is the daily goal.
— Do you have any bedtime rituals that help you sleep well?
Yes! I am super ritualistic about the evening wind down. I ensure I am off all screens at least two hours before sleep. I feel this is so greatly important to allow our bodies to align and flow into the yin cycle of the night. I switch off all overhead lights and only use very warm low light lamps as the sun sets. This is another trick to converse with your body to wind down, let go of any tasks and prep for rest. I read, write, listen to music and savour evenings for creative flow and conversation with my husband.
— Do you have any kind of mindfulness practice?
Many. I practice conscious breath and meditation as my main allies. But I also spend A LOT of time with plants, growing, making, conversing and in nature scapes. This is for me the ultimate mindfulness practice of oneness, presence and connection.
Sustenance
— Describe your typical or ideal meal for each of these:
Breakfast – Scrambled eggs with turmeric, garlic and greens, avocado and some home fermented veggies on the side.
Lunch – Wild caught Mahi Mahi with tarragon, parsley, lemon and garlic cooked in ghee, on top of a bed of greens with some roasted sweet potato on the side. (Literally one of my favourite dishes ever)
Snack – I love smoothies. Often a smoothie, my current fav is Strawberries, cashew nut butter, cashew nut mylk, collagen, hemp seeds, tocos, cinnamon, vanilla powder & ashwaganda powder.
Dinner – San choy bow, with a rainbow of veggies & lots of bold ginger flavour in vibrant cos lettuce cups.
— Do you do caffeine and in what form? If not, what is your drink of choice in the morning?
I actually do not, I am completely stimulant free. I have not always been, but just find myself so very sensitive to any stimulants these days. I used to love love love a great spicy black chai tea but since going caffeine free I have replaced it with a dandelion chai blend I make myself that is just so warming and grounding I adore it. Plus no crazy energy spikes and lows, so thats a plus!
— Do you have a sweet tooth and do you take any measures to keep it in check?
At the same time when I let go of stimulants, I completely let go of sweets- even natural sweeteners. In the past I have been an avid lover of raw chocolate and quite the connoisseur (ha) but these days I make my own carob chocolate that has no sweetener in it at all. I love carob as it’s very sweet naturally so you can get away with no added sweeteners. I pair it with vanilla powder and they work synergistically to give a natural sweetness that I find so comforting.
— Are there any particular supplements, herbs, or tinctures/tonics that you take regularly and find to be helpful with your energy level and general wellness?
I do utilize supplement support as needed, this shifts as my body shifts. I love Vitamin C on so many levels but particularly for its adrenally restorative healing elements, so it is absolutely in my daily supplement routine, alongside Magnesium citrate on the daily. With herbs, I will vary what I am taking depending on my needs. I add herbal powders and medicinal mushrooms to my tonics and smoothies. Currently my favourites are Withania (Ashwaganda) and Reishi. I also am a huge lover of infusions (long loose leaf herbal brews) and always have a big jar of an overnight infusion with me to sip throughout my day. My most utilized blend would be Nettle leaf, Oat straw and Hibiscus. Earthy, calming, tangy and nourishing.
Exercise
— Do you exercise and do you have a particular exercise routine that you repeat weekly?
Years go I had a heinous back injury, I herniated multiple discs from overexercising. My approach and relationship to body movement completely shifted after this, from rigorous to gentleness. It is still an area of my life I have to encourage myself back to and approach more as an act of self love. Taking care of my temple. I walk my pups daily, I love pilates and swimming, I have begun the be.come project and absolutely LOVE the approach to body movement with body positivity, inclusivity, no need for any equipment and in the comfort of my own home. This all feels really supportive and a mix of gentle yet effective support for me and my body.
— Do you find exercise to be pleasurable, torturous or perhaps a little of both? How do you put yourself in the right mindset in order to keep up with it?
I am not a natural athlete by any measure! I have recently connected to how emotional it can be to return to body movement when you have been through a big physical injury/body change/life change. So for me the way I psyche myself up to do a session is to come from self love, to know this is a loving act of care for my body. That really helps me so much. Also knowing there are no rules to how you must move your body, allow exercise to meet your vibration- yin, yang and all between. Shifting the type of body movement I do with my menstrual cycle/hormones is so key. Be your own compass.
Beauty
— What is your idea of beauty – external, internal or both?
Authenticity, when someone is just purely themselves and at ease with it. I find it absolutely stunning.
— What is your skincare approach – face and body?
Oils, oils and more oil. I swear by the dewy hydration of oils. I am pretty low maintenance with skin care, and have noticed I need a lot less intervention since moving to the sea and swimming in the ocean most days. The salt magic is so nourishing for the skin. I also find the sun very healing, contrary to the fear of UV rays we have been indoctrinated with! I use a homemade herbal balm for a lot of applications, hair mask, makeup remover, and moisturizer. It is a power packed plant based mix, and such a heavenly blend. I also use Ritual oil, a moringa and blue lotus oil as a body moisturizer.  I am in my mid 30’s and really notice my skin responds so well to the dewy goodness of oils. I practice dry body brushing also, which I feel is so wonderful to aid stagnation and lymphatic flow. I use a jade roller which I keep in the fridge for extra lymphatic cooling, and use on my face every few days with oil. I always end my showers with cold water, to add in a hydrotherapy element. I wear very little makeup, but when I do it is always natural, as clean as can be. I love RMS and Ere Perez.
— Are there any foods, herbs or supplements you find to be helpful to your skin/hair/general glow?
The importance of a vibrant whole foods diet and hydration is EVERYTHING! So many compounds in our foods, fruit + veggies are anti aging and collagen boosting anti oxidant heros. I drink 3+ litres of filtered water daily and do my very best to eat a rainbow of seasonal organic fruit/veggies daily and honestly I rely on this to support my health, skin and hair primarily. I do add in a marine based collagen daily to either smoothies or tonics. Also I am in a stage of encouraging my hair to grow, and am using nettle, rosemary and horsetail infusions as a hair rinse. I also massage in olive oil and rosemary oil into my scalp, truly it is so simple and aids hair growth.
— Do you have any beauty tips/tricks you’ve found to be especially useful throughout the years?
A low tox life is key. Keep your stress in check, move your body, eat as clean as possible – mostly plants, organics or pesticide free produce, clean water and clean air. The most incredibly glowy humans I know follow this ethos. This has been my guideline and I am often told I really do not look my age. I am so at ease with ageing but it is always nice to hear you are maintaining a youthful glow!
Stress, etc.
— Do you practice any consistent routines in order to avoid stress?
I really do. I work for myself and direct all of my offerings at this point. This can be demanding and means “work” can have a never-ending feel. There are always so many thoughts, needs and energy streams flowing into my work life. I also feel when you work as a space holder and in the healing realms, your energy output can be hefty. Burn out is high in this line of work, as you truly want to assist so deeply to aid others, we can often throw our needs to the side. I have learnt this many times in my years as a clinician/healer. I implement a lot of consistency with a structured clinic week~ limiting the amount of clients I see weekly to where I feel my energy is at and how many clients I can truly be present for. I balance myself with time off, away from screens, in nature and welcome in receiving energy to counteract my giving energy. My self care practice is the core of how I seek balance. I am actually freakily good at giving back to myself, which I believe enables me to do what I do!
— If stress cannot be avoided, what are your ways of dealing with it?
For me, it is much healthier to come at it head on.. (typical Aries answer!) I do my finest to address the stressors, and clear the way. Whether this means a mountain of admin,  which is often a stressor for me as I not a natural lover of admin. I bunker down, switch off all other distractions, play some flute music or chants, burn some incense and get in the zone. When I exit that zone I feel so accomplished and reward myself with an ocean swim, or a nature walk to balance out the mental space I have been in.
— What measures do you take when you sense a cold/general feeling of being under the weather coming on?
First and foremost I rest. Immunity can be a very strong conversation our bodies communicate to us with the message of needed REST. My go to supplement and herbal approach is to take a high dose of Vitamin C consistently in divided doses throughout my day, I also add in zinc supplements. I always have an immune focused liquid herbal tonic in my first aid support cabinet, so I begin this at a high frequent dose to meet the acute presentation of a cold/virus~ generally dosing up to 4 x daily. Usually it will have Echinacea, andrographis, elderberry, manuka, thyme in it. I love medicinal mushrooms to support immunity so I will take a blend of Reishi and Chaga in higher doses. I avoid raw foods and focus on lots of cooked warming nourishing food to feed the cold, congees, broths, soups, stew. I also make fresh oregano, thyme with sliced lemon & ginger tea. If I really honour the rest that is needed, the cold/rundown feelings will shift very swiftly.
— How do you reconcile work-time with free-time? Do those things overlap for you or do you keep them distinctly separate?
The best thing I ever did was to get a separate work phone. I have a dedicated phone that my clients can contact me on, so in my free time it is left at home or on silent. This has helped me enormously create healthy boundaries. I also do not have my work emails on my phone, so I do not check them at all unless I am sitting down at my computer to work. It is so important to be available to your own process and own life, especially when you are in the field of assisting others. These simple interventions help fortify those boundaries greatly for me.
Motivation
— Describe the actions you take or mindset you try to tap into in order to stay on track with your self-care practice and being nice to yourself?
I return to softness with myself if I lose my way a little. I do my best to not judge or engage in negative self talk. I soften and return to my centre. We all have patterns we are cycling. Although I feel I am quite a master of my own self care practice I definitely can get caught up in my workload a fair bit. One thing I do consciously do is to book a treatment in weekly in some form, usually a bodywork-massage session. I find this tactile healing so restorative.
— What do you consider to be the single most important change you’ve made to your routine or lifestyle in terms of wellness?
I recently moved from the mountains to the sea, although they are both completely beautiful nature rich locations I was very much in need a big environment change for my own health and wellbeing.  Having lived in a very cold environment mountain side for 10 + years I was craving the warmth, the salt and the sun. Being by the ocean and soaking up the sun rays has been so fundamentally healing for me at this point. Total game changer! The power of changing your environment is so potent when you feel the call to do so.
— How do you deal with periods characterized by a lack of inspiration or procrastination?
I acknowledge that this too shall pass, it is transient. I do my best to trust my own creative genius. I am quite a forward motion person, so when I am feeling uninspired it absolutely can get me down. I am naturally a procrastinator in many ways, which can be so frustrating but saying that I also have the ability to then smash out the tasks in an uncanny way! I often find when I am not in such a wonderful place with myself I feel that sense of stagnation, so I do my very best to get to the roots of that stagnation. Often it takes me getting into nature to be re inspired, crafting out some quiet space to re energize and tackle the task head on. I try to ask myself what is the block, and unpack the block to free up the energy flow.
— A book/movie/class that influenced your view of self-nourishment or self-care.
As cheesy at it sounds I LOVED Practical Magic, the witchy plant potions and the apothecary Sandra Bullock’s character opened was a total inspiration for me as teenager.. & still is now (lol).
Knowledge
— What was your path to becoming a herbalist, nutritionist, and energetic healer? How do all of those practices interweave for you?
I was always drawn to the esoteric realms and the mystery of nature. As a little girl I loved being outside, I loved the flowers, the trees, the plants, the grasses, the oceans, the mountains. I loved being an observer and always felt so held when I was in nature. As soon as I began to understand that plants could have a positive effect on our health, it just fascinated me. Learning about folklore of plant medicine, applications and remedies drew me into a language I wanted to be fluent in. I believe that much of our call to the plant path is remembering, these plants have been with us through our ancestral lines for eons. My career began really at the age of 16 with energetic healing, I met a group of wild women up north in Australia and was welcomed into circles, introduced to the concepts of healing, and recognized as a student of these realms. I learnt reiki which led to crystal healing, then to sound healing, colour therapy, kinesiology.. I went to a college for 2 years to learn energetic healing in depth and graduated by the age of 19 holding full in depth sessions on auric healing and clearing energetic blockages. For me it felt too much too soon. So I went and travelled, met my husband in the USA and studied a whole lot more. When I returned to Australia I wanted to anchor my knowledge of healing with more grounded modalities so I began studying Naturopathic medicine. I forked off into a Bachelor of Western Herbal Medicine and Nutritional Medicine. I loved learning about plants and food as medicine, I loved the union of science and grass roots knowledge. Over years of being in practice, I have found that there is no way or no need to seperate these modalities. I weave them all in together to ultimately support the client in a very holistic way. I approach my practice with this lens of perception. I lead with intuition, and merge functional testing, pathology testing, traditional folk medicine, evidence based plant medicine, nutritional medicine, and energetics all to support. I believe there are always energetics involved in a health presentation, along with the demand for nutritional healing as powerful ally, and herbal medicine to assist, shift and support. Aligning these healing modalities is a potent combination. Essentially the basis of Naturopathic Medicine is individualised care, no one case is the same. This ethos rings true to me, there is not one client I have worked with that is the same as any other. How can we approach health in one way, or believe there is one remedy for one presentation? It goes against the nature of our uniqueness! My practice is about honouring the individuals path, story and health goals.
— You put a lot of emphasis on gut health in your practice and believe it to be the root to all balanced health. Can you talk a little bit about why you see this as such an important aspect of wellbeing?
“All diseases begin in the gut” – Hippocrates had it right!
So many issues stem from the gut, it is the root of our health. With the emergence of continued evolving science we are seeing so much more information come to light around the microbiome/microbiota, which is truly wonderful. Much of our immunity is linked with gut health, it impacts mental health greatly with our “second brain” residing in the gut producing neurotransmitters, it is involved in the auto immune expression, it defines our ability to absorb and produce nutrients/vitamins/minerals, it impacts our metabolism, it is directly connected to our stress response and digestion responds accordingly.. And so much more… I work very closely with digestive healing with each and every one of my clients as I believe this is a key element to balanced health and shifting imbalanced symptoms. Many of my clients present with poor digestion and we dig like detectives to get to the roots, often it is a leaky gut like picture – with parasites, yeast overgrowths or SIBO which we generally detect via functional testing. Once we have a good sense of what is actually happening in the gut, we go in with a supportive treatment plan – lifestyle, supplemental, nutritional and herbal interventions. It always astounds me how health can transform so greatly, from imbalanced to balanced with the right support, intention and dedication. Our bodies are so wise, and so willing to transform.
— What is your favorite way of incorporating herbal medicine into your (or your clients’) everyday life?
I personally incorporate it in so many ways. I make my own products and use them on my skin and in my home on the daily, I drink herbal teas and infusions daily and use tonic herbs to support my body/being. I have a herbal garden that is buzzing right now, so connecting with the plants via gardening is medicine to me. There is something so potent about growing and caring for a plant and utilising her healing, knowing the story of the plants beginnings enhances the healing power I believe. For clients~ it really depends but I do always advise infusions to become a part of their everyday lives. They are so very simple and accessible, basically a long brewed overnight tea! If you are working with me in a session we will touch on many ways to incorporate plant medicine into your life, from the herbs that are suitable for your current process, to cleaning up your skin care with more plant love, to working with herbal tablets/liquid tonics for marked support.
Fun and Inspiration
— What is something you are particularly excited about at the moment?
This next year feels so full of creativity, as I expand and launch multiple new offerings. Right now I am in a potent brewing stage, so I look forward to it all coming to fruition!
— What do you do to unwind or treat yourself?
Days off at the beach, going into the bush, gardening in my medicinal plant patch, reading a great book, screen free days, massages, hugs with my husband & dogs.
— A book/song/movie/piece of art to feed the soul:
Book – Braiding Sweetgrass – Robin Wall Kimmerer Song –  Stay – Cat Power/ Ba Movie –  Call me by your name Piece of Art –  A oil pastel pencil drawing gifted to me by my husband and family by my dear friend and incredible creator Chanel Tobler called “Curves like jam”
— Is there anyone you would like to hear from next in this interview series?
Emily L’ami from Bodha, she is a scent magician.

Benefits And Side Effects Of Citronella Oil
Medical Counsel Benefits And Side Effects Of Citronella Oil
We all are familiar with different kinds of oils extracted from seeds, plants, and many other natural ways. Most of them are part of our daily life. We use them in our food and for some cosmetic use as well.
Benefits And Side Effects Of Citronella Oil
One of such oils is citronella oil. It serves many purposes. In this article, we are having a deep sail through the benefits and side effects of citronella oil. We are also going to burst some of the common myths revolving around the use of citronella oil.
What is citronella oil?
Citronella oil falls in the category of essential oil, extracted from the stems and leaves of different species of Cymbopogon or the lemongrass. Lemongrass is a tropical plant of the Asian genus. Lemongrass is also known in different names at different places, such as Malabar grass, Cochin grass, and fever grass. The plant itself is used in cooking and for herbal medicine. This citronella oil is made by distilling the plants of the Cymbopogon genus. ‘Citronella’ got its names from a French word that means ‘lemon balm’ due to its citrus-like floral aroma. The oil has got tremendous health benefits. It has been used widely among the Asian population for centuries. It is mainly used to treat infections and rashes. Citronella oil is commonly used as an insect repellent, mainly as a mosquito repellent. It can help you keep the biting bugs at bay. It is also used in cosmetics, soaps, lotions, perfumes, and sprays as a fragrant element.
Apart from helping prevent insect bites, it is also known for its chemical elements that can enhance physical and mental health. At times, citronella is also used to treat diarrhea and parasitic infections. Though it is used as a flavouring agent in food and beverages, using it in large quantities can cause serious side effects. Let’s look into the health benefits and other effects of citronella oil in detail.
Benefits of Citronella Oil at a Glance:
Since centuries, our ancestors have been using the oil for many purposes. Some of them are:
Insect repellent
Parasitic infection treatment
Wound healing
Eliminate fatigue
Flavouring agent in food and cosmetics
It is also said that, when applied on the scalp, it protects the hair from dryness, dandruff, frizziness, and flaking. It can also moisturize the skin and hair. Citronella oil is used as the main ingredient in aromatherapy which is found to be helpful for conditions such as:
Cold
Depression
Menstrual cramps
Stomach ache
Muscle spasms
Flu
Difficulty urinating
While it is used for many purposes, there are not many scientific studies or researches that support them. Research and studies on such essentials are still going on. We only have evidence of experience by our forefathers.

Benefits of Citronella Oil Explained
Let's have a look into some studies conducted by prestigious institutions on the benefits of citronella oil.
As insect repellent
A review of studies in the Tropical Medicine and International health conducted in 2011 finds that, when used in combination with Vanillin- an element found in vanilla bean, acts as an effective insect repellent. It can provide up to three hours of protection. The study also suggests DEET is more effective than citronella oil. DEET is a chemical repellent that can offer 35 times more protection than citronella oil. Mosquito repellent candles using citronella oil are less effective than the diffusers and sprays. Some studies also suggest that citronella oil needs to be reapplied to be effective.
As antifungal agent
Some studies suggest that the antifungal properties found in citronella oil help in destroying fungi causing health problems. A study in 2013 analyzed how citronella acts against the strain of fungus called Aspergillus niger, which causes lung and sinus infection in people with weak immune systems. The result of the study was amazing. It says that citronella oil can effectively destroy the fungus that leads to infection. As a result, citronella is suggested to be used as an environment-friendly, safe fungicide. Citronella oil can be a powerful antifungal agent. But in some cases, it requires reapplying daily to put fungal infection under control. Though it has antibacterial properties, citronella oil is not a beneficial solution for killing a wide range of germs and bacteria when compared to other essential oils.
For wound healing
Studies point out that the antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties of citronella oil can be helpful in wound healing. It can speed up the process of wound healing, which can help people with diabetes. A study conducted in 2016 suggests that the anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties of citronella oil are helpful in diabetic patients who face difficulty with slow wound healing. But the research findings have certain limitations as it is conducted on animals.
Aiding weight loss
The effects of citronella oil on weight loss are yet not authentic as the research was done on rats. The research findings were thrilling as it showed significant results in weight loss by decreased food intake, lowered cholesterol, and slower weight gain. It needs more research to be authentic about citronella effects on weight loss in humans.
In aromatherapy
Two types of citronella oil are used in aromatherapy- java citronella oil, and Ceylon citronella oil. Among them, java is considered to be a better quality option. Certain studies suggest a decrease in blood pressure, respiratory and heart rate in people who inhaled citronella oil. It also suggests that citronella oil can help with fatigue and stress management. However, all of these findings lack authentic research support.
Citronella Oil Side Effects
There are always two sides to every coin! We have seen that citronella oil can be of many uses. However, not certain about the citronella oil side effects. Studies are still going on to find out the benefits and side effects of many natural oils such as citronella. You can consider using citronella oil in moderation if needed. Research and studies that back citronella use as of now lack scientific evidence. As of now, considering the research findings, toxicity is lower if you inhale or apply the oil over your skin.
Citronella oil should not be consumed internally. Internal consumption can result in health issues like stomach upset, cough, and throat irritation. Do not apply it to the eye as it can cause irritation and redness. It can also cause temporary opacity of the cornea, which is a mild condition that can reverse in a week. It is said that undiluted citronella can have adverse effects on the skin if applied. It can cause skin irritation and rapid heart rate (tachycardia) in some people. Excessive application of citronella oil can cause allergic reactions as well. If you are to opt aromatherapy using citronella oil, take necessary safety precautions. Pure citronella oil can result in nose and throat irritation if inhaled. It might also result in acute inflammation of the airways.
What to Watch Out?
There are no written guidelines to use citronella oil properly. If you want to save yourself from citronella oil side effects, here are some tips that might guide you in proper usage.
Do not apply pure citronella oil directly to the skin.
Mix pure citronella oil with any other neutral carrier oil in a ration of 1:1.
After use, wash it with soap and warm water.
Avoid excessive sun exposure after using the oil.
Do not use directly in aromatherapy. Take a tissue or a cloth to apply. You can also use a vaporizer or commercial diffuser.
Do not inhale the oil directly from the bottle.
Don't take it internally without medical supervision. Try maximum not to take the oil internally.
Conclusion
Citronella oil is widely accessible online and natural food stores. Availability can never assure quality. Here are a few things to consider while buying that can ensure quality.
Read the product label to ensure quality. Do not buy if there are added ingredients mentioned in the label.
Have a quick quality check before buying. Sometimes people sell it diluting with vegetable oil. See placing a drop on a piece of paper to find it. The product can be diluted if there is an oil circle developed around the droplet.
Do not fall for the fragrance. If you go behind the scent, you may end up buying citronella oil with added artificial aroma.
Keeping it in a plastic or clear glass bottle can lead to degrading if exposed to the sun. The ultraviolet effects can be oxidizing. So, it is vital to keep it in light-resistant glass bottles.
Some might say that Java citronella oil is a better version than the Ceylon essential oil. But there is no scientific evidence proving its effectiveness, except that one is a bit stronger. The oil is useful to treat minor cuts and scrapes as it contains methyl isoeugenol compounds. It can also help control body smells caused by bacteria. If you are to use citronella oil for cosmetic or other purposes, the best choice is to talk to your doctor. It is said that citronella side-effects can be alarming at times. Prevention is always better than cure.

Five Essential Culinary Herbs for the Witches Garden
Tumblr media
The Witches Garden
Throughout time, witches have had  magical gardens full of herbs, vegetables, vines, flowers, and trees. Stories of witches gathering herbs in the moonlight, tilling the land in the spring, and speaking to the trees, abound in folklore and fairy tales. Witches use herbs in their magical endeavours, as well as medicinally to heal ailments of many kinds. Before doctors were prevalent, when one had an illness or ailment of some kind, one would travel to the outskirts of town (sometimes into the mountains) to find the local witch and acquire an herbal cure from the witches garden or apothecary. Here are the five essential culinary herbs for the witches garden. Keep in mind this depends on your climate, but most of these witch herbs can be successfully grown in pots in warm weather.
Tumblr media
Rosemary has multiple uses for flavouring foods and also magical endeavours.
1. Rosemary
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is native to the Mediterranean region of Europe and parts of Asia and is a woody perennial. It has evergreen leaves and will produce white, blue, and pink flowers. You can grow it successfully in a pot, and it does well in hot sun and warm weather. It can also stand colder weather, as well and is considered a sort of evergreen plant. It requires little watering and so it is a low maintenance herb. If you live in a warm climate, rosemary will grow easily year-round for you in the garden. If you live in a fairly cold climate year-round, you might want to keep it in a pot and bring it in during the coldest weather. They can grow up to five feet tall and are truly a very hardy herb to grow in the witches garden.
Rosemary is one of those all-purpose witch herbs that can be used for healing and magical needs. It is said to help improve one’s memory and cognition when taken medicinally. Rosemary has been used to help stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth and healthy hair when infused into oil and rubbed on the scalp. Magically, it’s used to purify the air when made into incense or a smudge bundle. It is also used in love spells – the leaves and sprigs can be put into love sachets, bottles, and used in food as an aphrodisiac. Rosemary also has protective properties and can be placed under a child’s crib to protect from malevolent spirits and faeries; it can also be worn to ward off evil and sickness. Don’t forget that rosemary can be used in many dishes as medicine or as magick to induce properties of love, healing, and protection.
2. Basil
Another one of my all-time favourite culinary herbs for the witches garden is basil. Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is native to India but now grows in the Mediterranean and all over the world in gardens. It is known for its use in Italian dishes, particularly. Basil is also called Saint Joseph’s Wort and the King of Herbs. Basil is an annual herb and grows well in a pot and in raised garden beds. This witch herb needs moderate watering and regular pinching of the new growth is recommended to keep it from growing too “woody” or “leggy”. Grow basil near your tomato plants to deter pests. There are many varieties of basil, the most common known as sweet basil. The leaves can be added to salads, Italian pasta dishes, caprese, fruit salads, and many other dishes. Its culinary uses are wide-ranging.
In addition to its culinary use, basil has medicinal and magical properties. Basil has more than one essential vitamin, including Vitamin K and Vitamin C. It is said to have anti-inflammatory properties. The aroma of basil is due to its many essential oils. Pick a leaf and rub it gently between your fingers, then breathe the scent in and enjoy! The scent is uplifting and energising. Basil’s magical properties include (but aren’t limited to): money-drawing/luck and love.

Mint is easy to grow, tastes great in teas and food, and aids digestion.
3. Mint
Every witch should grow mint (Mentha) in her garden. There are various kinds including chocolate mint, peppermint, pineapple mint, and spearmint (just to name a few). Mint is native to a majority of the continents worldwide and is very easy to grow. It is a perennial and is quite hearty. Mint sends out shoots and will take over a garden if it’s left to its own devices. For this reason, it’s best to keep mint in pots or separate containers from the rest of your plants. Mint is a sweet, green witch herb that can be used in the kitchen for different meals. It adds a sweet flavor to desserts and is used often in Mediterranean and Indian cuisine. Throw a couple leaves on the top or side of meals as a pretty garnish.
Besides its many culinary uses, mint also has multiple magical and medicinal uses. Peppermint tea is not only tasty and relaxing, it can also be drank to calm an upset stomach. Mint helps with digestion, so a cup of fresh mint tea after a heavy meal is just the ticket! Some other medicinal uses for mint include treatment for irritable bowel syndrome and use in aromatherapy to relieve nausea. Really and truly the mint is all about relieving stomach and intestinal ailments. Magically, mint has a number of purposes, just as the other herbs mentioned in this article, and can be used to draw money, to heal, to ward off illness, to draw love, lust, and to ward off evil. According to Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, mint on the “altar will call good spirits to be present and aid in magic.”

Culinary sage is used to flavor meat dishes, and can be burned for purification just like white sage.
4. Sage
Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a popular culinary herb and can easily be grown in the witches garden. It is a perennial and is native to the Mediterranean. It is a subset of the mint family and can be grown easily in a garden or in a pot. Sage has grey-green leaves and is a shrub, if not trimmed regularly it can become “woody”. Its blooms are typically a delicate purple or blue shade. This witch herb has been used since ancient times for various purposes and are documented widely. There are different types of sage. Sage is easy to maintain as it needs low to a regular amount of water and a healthy amount of sun. For culinary purposes, sage is used during the holidays as a stuffer for poultry (turkey, chicken, goose) and used in dressing, and is an essential herb in many Italian, Balkan, and British dishes.
Medicinally, sage has been used for hundreds of years for various illnesses. It’s been used as an anti-inflammatory, a diuretic, a tonic, and more popularly as a part of the Four Thieves Vinegar (which was a vinegar and herbal concoction thought to keep away the Plague). It was also used for snakebites, palsy, and fever. Sage is similar to rosemary in that it can also help improve cognition and memory. Its magical properties include increasing fertility, warding off evil, immortality, increasing abundance, and making wishes. Put the leaves in poppets, spell bags, ointments, and more!

Lemon Balm is part of the mint family but has a lemony flavor.
5. Lemon Balm
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is part of the mint family and is a perennial herb. It grows native to southern parts of Europe, as well as the Mediterranean and parts of Asia. As its name suggests, it has a lemony scent and flavor. Growing it in Florida, I’ve found that it does best with part sun / part shade and in a pot with compost added to the soil. If you live elsewhere in a cooler climate, your plant may need more sun but you’ll have to move it around to see where it does best in your yard or garden. Lemon balm’s official name is Melissa officinalis, as it is said to attract bees when it flowers, though it is not the same as Bee balm. Melissa was a Greek Goddess associated with bees and that is how this witch herb got its name. Keep it in a separate pot, as it will overtake the witches garden just like mint!
Lemon balm can be used in food to give it a lemon flavouring and is great for fish dishes. It’s also used medicinally as a tea to help calm fluttering or anxious nerves. It has a very mild sedative effect and can be drank before bed to help promote sleep. Lemon balm also helps with digestive problems, just as its cousin the mint plant does. Drink it in combination with peppermint for a nice complimenting herbal tea. Magically, lemon balm can be used in bee magick, to honor the goddesses Melissa and Diana, as an aphrodisiac, as an anti-depressant and as a complimentary herb in dream pillows and sachets.

AM I THE ONLY ONE
"Am I the only person in this planet who is so attracted with broken people, I love vanilla ice cream, mocha flavoured cake, watermelon lip balm, lemon scented detergent soap, I love him" She is so drunk, I never seen her like that. "Look at the moon jamie c'mon look at it" I look at the moon as she said. "Whats with the moon? You know what, youre so drunk that you couldn't even recog--" "Ssssh!! shut up, just look at it... Do you think he's lonely too?" she ask me while staring at the moon. "He? who? the moon? how would I know? Maybe no. because its a thing and it has no emotions at all" I sarcastically replied. "He looks sad, Jamie." she is still looking at the moon, moonlight shone on her beautiful face, this is the first time I stare at her. she faintly smiled. "You know what's at the end of a rainbow?" I don't know about her voice but it sounded innocent and sweet as she asks me questions like that out of the blue. "Mmm? Pot of golds? unicorn? care bears." I tauntedly replied, she laugh so hard, her face turns red. "Silly, of course not. Ummm prism Jamie, Prism looks like diamonds, and diamonds seems to have rainbows too" she explained while trying to make diamond figures through her shadow on the ground. "Okay? so?? whats with the moon and rainbows then? are they the reason why you drink too much tonight" I'm still staring at her but there is something different. Her eyes shines but it looks sad, she is smiling but seems hurt. "No. sweetie, I'm just trying to figure out why I fall for him. His voice is a broken record, I keep on playing, His name is a song in my ear, with inconsistent melody but turns to be my favorite lyric. He didn't do anything, he didn't say a word he never even barely talk to me or to anyone. He is a sad young man, he thought that nobody cares for him. Then what Am I? a chair? a rock?-- I love him as I fond the moon too beautiful but so far away, facinated by his depth, scars and brokeness, like a diamond shattered into million pieces but the beautiful rainbow effect is constant- hahaha he is beautiful, his soul is beautiful his imperfectly beautiful." She lean on my shoulder, her tears starts to fall, and seeing her like that. Makes my heart skip a beat, I suddenly felt a bearable pain in my chest. How could she makes me feel this way, I felt so responsible for her pain. "He is a lucky guy, but too dumb to realize it now. Or maybe he just want you to get what you deserve. A love that was whole and new, the kind of love reserved just for you. Because you're too good to be true to someone like him-- this might be not the right time for him to love you or you to love him, that man needs more time to heal himself, wounds doesn't heal overnight." I looked at her, her eyes were now close. "I'm not asking him to love me too, I just want him to be happy but you're right, I hope you're right.. you're the best gay friend I ever had, thank you Jamie. Now call a cab and let's go home" "Yes, I will" Jamie answered, who's patiently standing behind us and waiting for his best friend to recognize it wasn't him she's talking to. "Shes drunk, and so inlove with you, her heart is gold, if you couldnt love her just please be happy, youre happiness is her happiness too. But anyways thanks for backing up Leo." Jamie smiled and say goodbye. -- As I sip my morning coffee, I see flashback of her in my memory. I whisper to the wind "...If I could just love you, Gail but wounds doesn't heal overnight"
