Had a silly chat with a friend yesterday, and this came up: "Bambi's b*tchy ass dad in Bambi II and Sesshomaru have the same vibes"
I don't know if I'm crazy, but now I CAN'T UNSEE IT...
The Great Prince of the Forest's Character & Personality
The Great Prince is the protector of the forest and Bambi's father. Unfortunately, he's the widower of the Great Princess of the Forest. After his mate's death, Great Prince tried to appear strong for the sake of his son. However, he would get upset at the meer mention of her. Great Prince is a highly dignified deer who sometimes treats his child harshly without realizing it. Although he has an intimidating appearance and presence, he has a loving heart, especially towards his family. Thus, Great Prince loves his son more than anything. In fact, he admitted he was a lot like his son as a fawn.
Continuing from my previous post on fancasting for Disney remakes, here are a few more suggestions.
Sara Tomko as Pocahontas
With the current PC climate, its unlikely that Disney will remake Pocahontas anytime soon. However, if they did go along with the remake, I think Sara Tomko would be a good fit for the title role. Tomko is another underrated actress who deserves more starring roles, but with what she has performed in thus far, she has shown she is capable of portraying witty, empathetic, clever, and adventurous characters, all in which embody this bold Native American heroine.
Idris Elba as The Great Prince of the Forest
Although the father of Bambi has a minor role in the film, one of the most unforgettable things about the Great Prince is his powerful presence that commands the respect of the surrounding creatures of the forest. And such power should have a powerful voice to go with it. Idris Elba's voice is one that no one forgets easily, and his performances as authority figures in films are phenomenal to say the least, which makes him perfect as the forest's mighty prince.
Meryl Streep as Mother Gothel
If her role as the Witch in Into the Woods is anything to go off of, Streep has the energy, drive, and eccentricity to pull off the role of Mother Gothel in a hypothetical Tangled remake. With a spectacular singing voice, her ability to flawlessly represent manipulative and depreciating villainesses, Streep would kill as Gothel like she killed Eugene (sorry).
Ewan McGregor as Basil
Although McGregor had already filled his live action Disney quota, we all know how much Disney loves reusing actors. And honestly, with McGregor's wit and charm that gets so often displayed on screen, is there anyone better fit for the role for Basil?
Willem DeFoe as Ratigan
No matter the generation, Ratigan deserves to always have the most iconic villain actor portray him, be it Vincent Price, or per my suggestion, supervillain icon Willem DeFoe. DeFoe's acting ranges between terrifying, deranged, goofy, and at times sympathetic, which would fit the world's greatest criminal mind to a T.
So ever since watching Nimona, I thought Ballister looked really familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. Then I was watching Bambi last night, and uh-
In Bambi II, Ronno knows what a deer call is and how to describe it--and that's possibly secondhand info, but where did he hear about it? Maybe another deer witnessed a hunter using a deer call and survived to spread the word, yeah. But also--Ronno has a notch in one of his ears, which could very possibly be man-made.
I kind of have a headcanon Ronno did encounter a hunter, but maybe he was kidnapped or taken in for a short time like Gobo in the book. It probably wasn't pleasant, because he only exhibits trauma symptoms. He probably either wasn't going to be a pet or wasn't going to warm up to a family.
The movie is already about healing from trauma, so I'd love looking at it with Ronno acting as a Bambi foil as well as representing the uglier ways someone heals from trauma (overdramatization, low empathy, selfishness, picking fights, acting "tough" but also being a crybaby, claiming to be grown up but also being behind maturity-wise. That last one is clearly apparent; it's suggested that Ronno is a little older than the other kids by his antlers alone. So why's he the least mature out of all of them.).
Brenden & Pavel Royal Attire by kaco on skeb&twitter
Crown Prince of the Fores Plains, Brenden Hirv
Second Prince of the Fores Plains, Pavel Hirv
Located in a Deep and Vast Forest not far from the Draconia Castle. It is a small Kingdom. The Kingdom of the Fores Plains are known to trade with the Brair Valley holding a friendly relationship. The children of both Kingdoms have never met
With how the recent stuff coming out the Diasomnia Chapter
The Fores Plains Royalty has held a stronger bond with nature so it is easier for those of the Briar Valley, especially the Fae to have better relations with them
I did in fact cry during Bambi 1 and 2. Both times because of Bambi’s Mother
Something about an 1h 15m animated film of two grieving deer royalty learning to be father and son makes me so emotional and will forever remain in my favorite Disney movies
This scene? The one where Bambi is dreaming of his dead mom? Tears
“But I feel so alone/I’m always with you, even when you can’t see me”
The whole montage of Bambi and his dad? Peak
It’s probably also on Disney Plus, but it’s also on Youtube
i finally realized that a portion of why i go so feral over father-child dynamics specifically is because one time when i was young and spending a summer in france and still hadn't mastered french enough to want to read french books or watch french films, one of the few pieces of english media in my possession were children's book novelizations of disney's bambi and bambi ii and so i read it a lot at a formative time
the things that are generally wrong with the volstovic cycle are made (naturally, by virtue of the setting and pov characters) so much more egregious in shadow magic but like. kouje & mamoru are unfortunately still the only prince/retainer dynamic i’ve ever read like nothing else compares. sorry. forever.
