so yeah, my main macbook (pro 2012) is definitely broken so that sucks. I decided to remove all of the stickers on the palm rests of the laptop and transfer them to my macbook air (2013) which had fewer stickers on its palm rests and still had some space on the back as well. It took a little bit of rearranging some packing tape, some double sided tape and some scissors but I got it all to work out in the end.
Then I used isopropyl alcohol to remove the adhesive residue from the stickers on the MB pro palm rests. Tragically did lose 4 stickers in the transfer, but considering how many there were, I did pretty good overall with transferring them as the other 16 stickers lived to tell the tale.

Can you share what your art-making process is? What software and tools do you use?? I'm falling in love with your work!!
Thank you, I'm so happy you like my work and are interested in the process. The short answer is I mostly use Adobe Animate.
I hate how I'm using an Adobe product (although I still regard it as a MacroMedia Flash product), but there's just no other software that compares to its jankiness. Perhaps it's just my long familiarity with the program, but nothing I've experienced matches how it simultaneously feels like drawing in MS Paint and using Microsoft PowerPoint vector shapes. The result is something that feels in-between the two; handmade yet computer-generated.
Typically, I'll start with a hand-drawn sketch, often beginning as a thumbnail done with pencil and paper.
Tumblr media
I'll then do a mix of hand drawing and vector shape tool rendering. I use the Paint Brush tool to hand draw strokes, and the line and shape tools mixed with transform to make more geometrically accurate shapes. The design is rendered into divided closed loop shapes, ready to be filled with a solid. The strokes are kept or removed depending on the design.
Tumblr media
These fill shapes are then either coloured and rendered in Adobe Animate, using fills, gradients, or a more complex process of masks and effects.
Tumblr media
Alternatively, I'll bring all these vector shapes into Photoshop and use them as clipping masks. The vector shapes act like masking taped areas or shields to maintain sharp edges, while the brush is like an atomized airbrush used to build soft volumed forms.
Tumblr media
Please excuse all that horrible Adobe Cloud and AI bloatware...
And there we go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Variations in the process include just using MS Paint, index color in Photoshop, or 3D programs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very old works of mine were almost abstract, just exploring digital mark-making, which was a trend I was following in the mid 2010s that I loved. This kind of stuff.
Tumblr media
While my current work uses its digital material specificity as an intermediary to the subject in the illustration.
Tumblr media
For example, #ersatz.world parodies clip-art and flash edutainment styles but imagines the characters living within that kind of world. The designs are meant to be cute, easy to read, light in computer processing, but also irreverent, janky, and generic too.
Tumblr media
People typically regard this sort of clip art style as ephemeral trash, but I always found them charming. I use Ersatz World primarily as a satire vehicle, parodying educational formats to spoof corporate explainer content and digital media.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, part of the problem with Ersatz is I've made it look too polished, complex, and I've grown too attached to the characters, which I imagine is a typical issue with overbuilding a world. So recently, I've made an even jankier Ersatz-like set of characters to play about with, using an even simpler style with less cohesion. I like to try and use slightly different styles and digital material styles to relate to the property at hand.
Tumblr media
That’s why #autonymus has a bitmap digital material and a denser feel to it. Unlike Ersatz, Autonymus is not meant to be an overt semi-meta fiction. It’s not exactly pixel art, but the pixels are just about visible, as the intention is to create a digital expressionist depth to the setting. Although it’s still stylized and not realistic to our world, I definitely still want to evoke semblances of our world. That’s why there’s attention to landscape, plant life, and implied life beyond what you see in the frame with the characters, etc. But I'm still making a cartoon, and I still want it to feel at ease with itself being a digital material work. Characters are therefore flat, simple, stiff, and the speech style is like a bad Shakespeare parody. I like to balance between ugly and appealing, simple and complex, familiar and unfamiliar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In regard to things like inspiration, references, and my relationship to aesthetic genres; these things certainly factor into my work, perhaps I'm even overtly dependent on them. My work can definitely be post-modernist in method; creating new, ironic, or fragmented interpretations through deconstructing a mix of various styles or methods. But at the same time, I'm still trying to make a digital gestural representation where the aesthetic is driven by my relationship to the software and techniques directly—not simply in an attempt to reference a style. For example, I like drawing lines in sweeping strokes, not to a point of geometric perfection, but just in a way where the curves are smooth and simple. But if I want perfectly curved or straight lines, I'll use the vector tools.
Tumblr media
Working this way, you can sort of learn why certain styles and design choices in past vector aesthetics were made, as they would have also needed to make similar choices. That’s why I’m more mindful of using digital material specificity as a foundation to build narrative and subjects upon these days.
For example, genre references like cyberpunk clichés for #cyberhell or late medieval design for #autonymus or 2005 to 2015 era subculture fashion for #gradientgoblinz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it’s important to take inspiration and reference from a wide variety of sources, but I think they’d mean nothing without having something to say or express. Autonymus, although it is a collection of tropes and clichés, isn’t just about that. It’s a story about the tensions of socially constructed systems and how that shapes faith, technology, and the natural world, or at least that's what I'm aiming for anyway.
But despite all that, I think there’s a danger of locking myself into the past by using these methods. For example, using nostalgia and references to past aesthetics can result in just recreating the past in a form of role-play. To avoid that, I try and evoke the past through a messy, inaccurate pastiche rather than caring to accurately re-enact anything. I’m probably not always successful at communicating the deliberateness of this, and it can certainly get very frustrating and pedantic. To be honest, I do kind of hate aesthetic labels (terms like Y2K, global coffee house, utopian scholastic designs from a pre-9/11 world).
Tumblr media
I do not believe that a project aimed solely at mapping history through aesthetic styles is worthwhile. Sure, they can be handy for organizing style trends, but they can also be reductive and ahistoric. Who are these people to define the history of these design eras? The result is a kind of suffocating simulation of design history but removed from context, perfect for moodboardism. I wish it felt more tongue-in-cheek, less absolute of itself in its own practice. Instead, it acts to legitimize and engender those making these labels, almost giving them ownership of the design styles. It’s similar to the logic and process of generative AI and its databases in a way, just done manually.
I’m very inspired by artists like Oneohtrix Point Never in this regard, as I think he’s able to create an aesthetic portal to all kinds of memories, feelings, and worlds reminiscent of the past, while still being in the present. It’s more a reflection of how timelines are messy now, like a memory or dream, rather than an audacity to say the past was actually like that, or to try to actually map some kind of timeline.
I think the benefit of this process is how it avoids the other side of the spectrum—being locked into chasing the cutting edge of digital processes. I don't necessarily think using an old digital process means your work inherits the semiotics of old aesthetics. Non-digital mediums don’t have this issue to this degree, as you can still paint in oils and be considered contemporary, or at least it's not frowned upon to such a degree. And I also don't think anyone in the heyday of Flash ever made work the same as I do, especially as computers are more powerful now so can handle more. I probably shouldn't boast too much about that though, as artists at the time probably just had more sense than to use Flash like a painting program! So then, why is my use of Adobe Animate critiqued as obsolete and an aesthetic dead-end? Because to whose standards is this process obsolete? If you value digital aesthetics as an apparatus in industry practice, then sure, my work is redundant.
Tumblr media
But as wonderful as the latest tech can be in creating new aesthetics, I do feel it can be overtly dependent on the trends and directions of tech corporations, and therefore act as an indirect propaganda tool to their hegemony over digital aesthetics, such as the ever-demanding processing power needed for simulated realism. If anything, work that does follow in the direction of the latest tech trends is ironically the quickest to date once the trends move on.
Tumblr media
I've noticed I've not really described what my work is about, just the process, in this text. But I don't know, maybe I like Flash because it is regarded as redundant. No one really cares about it, so I feel free to make whatever I want, and can decide on form myself, to my own standards, the quality of my work. As fun as making images is, I find it difficult to put into words what it is exactly I'm expressing in my work, and perhaps that would spoil it anyway.

Internet site design can be very interesting, and really terrifying way too. It's difficult to know who to transform to for guidance, what amount of cash to enjoy and how to begin. Following the tips offered here, it will be easy to put off in the right direction in the first place.
So utilize this post and the assistance within it to be able to truly feel self-confident about web page design. Make certain your text and backdrop has got the appropriate compare. There's facts demonstrating that white colored written text over a black color history is least complicated for most people to see, but other colors are great as long as they're readable. Also understand that those with visual impairments might not be able to go through your site if the compare is poor. Find out in case your internet site complies with assorted comparison specifications making use of the resource at http://snook.ca/technological/color_distinction/shade.html code . Take notice of the background of your own website. Eliminate challenges to easy textual content reading through by steering clear of things like GIF qualification that move. Select a track record that accentuates what your site previously has to offer, as opposed to performs from it. This will assist get your concept over for your site visitors. Make certain you utilize the correct anchor text. The anchor text of your hyperlink should clearly illustrate just what the website visitor need to expect to see as he clicks the link. As an example, in case a website link contributes to your widget getting site, the anchor-text might go through "Purchase widgets." Especially stay away from "click the link" as anchor text. Make use of a design sheet to keep constant. There is certainly nearly absolutely nothing a lot more disconcerting than getting sent to a page that appears at absolutely nothing just like the website you were simply looking at, even if it is in regards to the exact same topic. Type linens aid in conserving your formatting, so every page looks similar to the sleep. Regardless of your focus on audience or your site's purpose, you usually desire to strive for a ten next packing time or better. An effective site will appear just before a visitor's eye inside of occasions. If it takes a long time, visitors is actually going to come to be discouraged and go someplace else. If you are looking to get a software to help you style a website, think about Adobe Dreamweaver. Even beginners can certainly take advantage of this item. There are various features, layouts, layouts and much more, and you may also try out your web site to see what it's gonna appear to be. When you have several internet pages in your web site, utilize a menu nightclub on the top to aid site visitors obtain the information they require without delay. Incorporate contact information, for them to talk to you if they'd like. Headings should be very clear and noticeable, and paragraphs ought to be brief in addition to readable. Understand that web developing doesn't need to be costly. While many equipment like Photoshop can be high-priced, there are several more affordable instruments that will last just as well. For example, you can use free of charge software program to help you make sites and add more design elements to all your website. Open up supply application generally does a similar stuff as paid for computer software. Specifically when you are first beginning and require low-cost solutions, the software that may be available via open up resources can be quite a lifesaver. Even if you understand how to design sites to the website you still need a lot to understand. Everyone today is utilizing smart phones so which means that you will find a better need for making sites portable well suited. Start learning to create cellular websites to ensure that you're knowledgable of how to construct various types of web sites. Always restriction your posts in early stages in your web page layout. Plenty of content might be hard so that you can coordinate and might mistake and annoy those who come to your site. In the event you count on many people to give rise to the information from the site, incorporating a information management method (CMS) into the appearance of the site generally is a good plan. A CMS will make it easier for everyone to enhance and up-date the material without needing a high measure of technical information. These techniques are really easy to use, and will make submitting content material on the webpage much more effective. An excellent way to find out how appealing your website is, is to look at the site's figures each time the internet site is current. You will understand who trips your web site and which webpages they like probably the most. This will reveal which areas will need upgrading to tempt folks back repeatedly. To wrap it, that you were unclear in the significant position that website design performs in the company's achievement, but now you have quite a good feel for it. Essentially, this short article will be ample to help you move these details on and aid other individuals with the exact same queries.

Things the Sims 4 Community Can Do About Paywalls...A Post...
[This is going to be a bit long, so you may want to save it and read it when you have time, or just...you know, buckle in.]
I thought I would ring in the new year by talking about something that I feel we as a community need to finally decide on. (It’s been debated since 2017 or so, and it’s now 2021...) I’d like, if possible, to try to suggest some real solutions and choices that we can make that will hopefully create a better and more honest community out of all of us.  Now I would like to start by making some postulates. In geometry, postulates are facts that do not need proven with a mathematical proof. They are assumed to be true. Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers would call these “Self-Evident Truths”. I would like to use these as a bit of a basis for my arguments.
Truth: The Sims 4 has been enough of a cash cow for EA.  If you buy the base game ($40) plus all expansion packs (40 each x 10) + all game packs (20 each x 9) + all stuff packs (10 each x 17) you would come to a total of seven hundred and 90 dollars ($790) plus tax. This is of course, without sales, bundling, etc, which many people DO take advantage of, but STILL. That is a TON of money for EA’s pockets.  EA makes a majority of its money on the fact that the Sims 4 is an “incomplete game”. It “completes” the game further and further by adding more “expansions” to the game to the point that it seems almost useless to buy the base game alone without adding to it.
Even with sales and other things, it’s easy to spend over $500 dollars on the sims 4 game + expansions. Still a lot of cash for a game that is years old. This is just money that is spent on the game that goes to EA. This does not account for:  * Money spent to buy a new computer because your old one wouldn’t run the sims.  * Money spent supporting CC artists who have donations open or early access.  * Money spent on access to sites that have ads/paywalls/exclusive sims 4 CC such as Leosims, etc. (Which are the problem, frankly)
We should be able to respect the fact that a majority of us paid a hefty amount for this game. It is unfair, and frankly greedy to REQUIRE people to pay MORE just to unlock or gain access to specific user created content.
I am not talking about a VOLUNTARY support or donation because they like what you offer. I am talking about FORCING people to pay if they want to ever be able to use the CC or mod you offer.
Now, the typical defense for this is “Well, I’m an artist! I spend time/effort/etc working hard on these meshes, the code, etc to make this content!”  Which leads me to point #2.
Tumblr media
Truth: Mods, CC, and other content for the Sims 4 are useless without the game. Once they are created/uploaded to the game, all copyright to those objects IMMEDIATELY transfers to EA.
I teach art in a Missouri public school. Our state standards dictate that when art students are in middle school grades, they have to learn about copyright, fair use, and creative commons. While I am not a copyright lawyer, I have had to learn enough about this subject to teach it. So allow me to break down a few facts about copyright:
First, when ya make it, ya own it. There’s not a process to apply for a copyright. The moment you create something that is 100% your own work, you hold the copyright to it.
Second, when you make something that is created based off of or USING someone else’s intellectual property as a reference or resource it is a fan creation. In art, we call this “fanart”. It is not 100% your own work. Someone else’s intellectual property is involved.
Fan creations always have tread a very thin and shadowy line when it comes to different companies and the legality of them. You can easily search google for various articles explaining it, but to summarize it in a short method:
Most companies do not actively go after those who create fan creations unless they are making profits that could instead be going to the creators of the intellectual property. If the fan creation is discovered to be making profits and/or taking the intellectual property in a direction the creator does not approve of, they have legal options to pursue (court, cease and desist letters, etc).
Third, Copyright can be transferred from person to person. In most cases this is done through a written document that both parties sign, however there IS an exception to this that EA uses to allow itself to transfer your copyrights to your content to them:
Tumblr media
EA’s agreement with you is non-exclusive, meaning that the moment you hit “agree” on the sims 4 terms and conditions, you have handed over your rights to any CC you create for the game.
If you want to maintain full creative rights over the mesh/mods/etc you make then, you have to not make that content for the sims 4 and make your own platform to host it on. This is way easier said than done.
Truth: There have been various examples in the past of CC creators who have stolen meshes, bases, bits/pieces of work, or “inspiration” for CC from other sites/companies, who have been called on it publicly.
The most recent event concerning this was drama concerning itsbrandysims and their use of meshes from imvu/secondlife (you can see my opinion on the subject HERE), but there have been other documented cases. Leosims, for example, has been listed as an example of someone taking meshes from secondlife creators and reuploading them (when it was told to me, I was shown THIS thread as evidence). Another well known creator was accused by a former sims 4 cc creator (who now makes content from second life), and was called out in THIS post in 2019.
The horrible part of this? Many of these creators are charging people (often at not so great rates as well), for STOLEN content. Content they don’t even own, that they ripped from another place. This should not be accepted by a community that loves a game as much as the Sims 4 community.  Truth: EA has provided a way for people to make money while not hiding content behind paywalls entirely, and the INTENT of this was to OFFSET COSTS.  Almost every post about content locked behind paywalls features this post found on the Sims Forum from 2017. In it, SimGuruDrake, who was the community manager at the time (she has since left the Sims 4 team for another job).  Most of you who have seen this discussion topic before know this post by heart, but I’d like to highlight one important aspect of it:
Tumblr media
One thing that is always important about communication is the intent behind it. The intent for people to be allowed to make patreons and allow early access wasn’t so people could just make money for themselves, the idea was to offset costs to buy programs to make the content. For example, a yearly subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud (which has photoshop, illustrator, etc) costs a couple hundred dollars US a year. If someone was using photoshop to help them create their CC in addition to blender or other free programs, EA/Maxis wanted to allow the creator to not have to pay for making the CC out of pocket.  Can EA/Maxis control what people spend the money they make off of patreon on? No. But it should be noted that the intent of this action was to help people pay for supplies for their hobby more than to make a business out of it.
Onto the next truth! Truth: There is an image that disputes this post above, however the authenticity of it and timing of it are very disputed.
Tumblr media
This image is often thrown around by people who lock content behind paywalls, but I would like to take a second and try to provide an honest assessment of it.  First of all, I have a bit of a problem with the fact that the original person who “messaged” SimGuruDrake this question has not been identified. This image was not posted on the tumblr of a CC creator who claimed “Hey I reached out to a sims guru and this is the answer I got!” The main pages that have this image are either tweets from CC creators using it to defend their stance on paywalls (ex: here), or tumblrs/tweets “debunking it” (ex: here, here).  I even reverse image searched this image using google, and another platform and could not figure out where this originated from. Of course, I’m not an expert, but...still.
Tumblr media
The fact that the origin of this picture is unknown casts doubt on it. If it were a well known CC maker who is known for being honest, that’s one thing. But the fact that we don’t exactly know where it came from is suspicious. Because frankly, anyone with some decent editing ability could photoshop this.
Tumblr media
Here’s my imperfect edit, but I’m just a self-taught graphics nerd and I am not as dedicated at faking screenshots as some. (And the crap photo quality didn’t help.) Another common issue is that at the supposed “time” that this question was being asked, some state that SimsGuruDrake had already left the Sims 4 team. I will admit, this photo is within the correct timeline, as SimsGuruDrake did not officially depart the sims 4 team until February 2018. (There is a post on the sims forums that has a timestamp that confirms this.) But, if you were in the process of leaving your job within the next month (as a two week/30 day notice is common when leaving a job), would you REALLY be answering questions in DMs on twitter, or be focusing on packing up, and training your successor?  The last thing that really makes me doubt the validity of this picture is the fact that it’s not really easy to message the sims gurus on Twitter. This appears to be twitter from the screenshot (although there are some things that are a little out of place from the current UI): But when I attempt to direct message a sims guru I get this message:
Tumblr media
I even tried seeing if I could reach out via DM to Drake herself, (who now posts under a different twitter) to see if it was possible:
Tumblr media
Could the policies have changed since 2018? Possibly, but I feel that opening up direct messages is just asking for Sims 4 team members to get angry messages, so this could very well be a long running EA policy. I have also reached out to her via a twitter tag (as of 1/2/21), and will update y’all if I get a reply:
Tumblr media
Okay, so now that we’ve gone through all of this, let’s talk about the last truth that’s really important:  Truth: Putting content behind paywalls has generally been considered disgusting by many in the sims 4 community, and TAKES AWAY the choice of people to support CC creators they love/appreciate WILLINGLY.  A few notable posts sharing the disgust with this practice can be found: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE & HERE). And these are just what I can find from a simple precursory search.
Okay, Brainiac. So what can we do to solve this problem?
Well, there’s a few methods we can employ, and sadly, it’s going to take a bit of a commitment and concentrated effort from the community.
Step #1: Make the COMMUNITY the VICTIM instead of EA.
Now when I say this, I don’t mean we’re actually victims, but mean that instead of constantly saying things like “WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU VIOLATE EA’S TOU!”, thus making EA the “victim” of the crime. We change the dialog to saying “When you lock stuff behind paywalls, you cheat the sims 4 community and disrespect their choice to support you or not.”  Because let’s be honest. Maxis/EA really doesn’t give much of a care about if people aren’t following this rule. You can report people to the team, but as far as most people have seen, it doesn’t get anywhere. But if we make it where the community is the party being “wronged” it is much harder for those who have paywalls to not be scared. Because the community, in the end, has to be with them.  DepthofPixels had a really amazing post about this HERE.
Step 2: Decide to not support anyone who puts their content behind exclusive paywalls and do not hesitate to spread the word about why you choose not to do so.
By that, I mean
not paying any patreon accounts that don’t offer either their content 100% for free, or offer early access.
And sharing about why you choose to do that on your social media. Something I might suggest would be to make it a bit personal and share something like:
Instead of spending $15 a month to get exclusive content from Leosims (or any other patreon/paywall creator here) I’m spending that $15 supporting creator x, creator y, and creator z, who don’t put their work behind paywalls!
Link their patrons, share why you like their content, and why you take the stance to make the community better. Make it a positive thing, praising the people who are doing RIGHT by the community.
Yes, you may not get their content for a while (although there are some different places (
x
,
x
) to find them *cough*. But in the end, is it worth supporting someone’s content when they’re treating the community badly?
Step 3: Report creators who actively steal content from IMVU/secondlife to those respective companies, and all others to EA. (Even though nothing may happen.)
Here’s the deal. When people steal from either of those sites, they are infringing on someone’s copyright, as well as Imvu/secondlife’s copyright as well. It’s not okay, and they should be held accountable for it. Here’s the LINK for submitting a ticket to Secondlife. I haven’t been able to find one for IMVU, but maybe someone else will find one. Let those companies know and allow them to handle those specific creators.  As to the other creators, EA may not handle them at the moment. But IF (and this is a wishful thinking “if”) there were suddenly a flood of messages about certain creators...? I think they might have to pay attention to some of those messages. There is an official report form, but it might even be worth tweeting to SleddingGuruFrost, who is the current community manager asking about their stance on paywalls.  And last but not least:
Step 4: Make sure that those who are doing the right thing and not putting their work behind paywalls feel appreciated. Show them some love via a tumblr ask, or by tagging them on twitter, or by going up a tier on their patreon (or pledging for the first time). Celebrate these heroes who are creating content and not forcing it on us.
Us asking for people to give us a choice to support them isn’t being greedy, or disrespecting their time. We just want transparency, and respect from those who create content for the game we love so much versus them treating us like we’re just a source of income. I know it might seem a bit hard to do this for some of you, and for some it may seem like I’m preaching to the choir, but we have to decide where we stand on this issue and stop letting those who abuse this system keep doing it. We can make a difference if we decide as a COMMUNITY to work together.
With commitment,  ~Sunny

The Covenant: Tech Guy
Tumblr media
Reid Garwin x Reader
Word Count: 3,826
Summary: After renting a laptop from your campus library, you run into a download problem. A call to Library Tech Services for help introduces you to Tech Guy. Good at his job, but with questionable people skills, you learn to work with him. It certainly helps that he has an attractive voice.
This was not good, not good at all. It was less than an hour to midnight, the sun long since having set, and time seemed to pas faster, not slower, the later it got.
Now, you considered yourself to be pretty good with technology, perhaps not a computer genius but good enough to be able to troubleshoot most of your problems. It was pure bad luck that the night your capabilities failed was the night before you had an assignment due in Graphic Design.
Your own laptop had been ruined after an accident in the library had left the screen nothing more than a web of shattered fragments, but thankfully the library also carried laptops for checkout which saved you from having to fork out money that you didn’t have to buy a new one. You thought that checking out a laptop would be a quick fix to your problem, but you underestimated how high their demand was.
The librarian you spoke with at the circulation desk put you on a waiting list much to your disappointment and you left the building empty handed, unsure when one would become available.
The answer was six days later, the night before you had something due.
When they left a voicemail on your cell phone around seven o’clock to tell you that it was ready for pick-up, you immediately hopped on a bus bound for the library. The anxiety should have been somewhat alleviated because you could actually start to work on it now but when you got back to your dorm room and opened it up, another problem presented itself: the program you needed wasn’t installed.
Bad luck 1 – You 0.
Every time you tried to install it a message would pop up prompting you to enter an admin username and password in order to start the process. You had never seen that message before and innocently tried your own username and password. When that didn’t work, you tried three more times just to be sure.
Next stop was the internet, everyone’s favorite place to ask questions. You ran a quick search describing the problem and read through a couple of chat room threads. Disappointingly, nothing really applied to the situation at hand.
In hindsight, you shouldn’t have spent so much time trying to fix it because all that came of it was a lot of wasted time and you still hadn’t installed the program. You really didn’t want to take another trip to the library tonight if you could help it.
Frustrated and stuck you opened up the library’s webpage to see if there were any answers to be found. They didn’t but you did find the phone number for Library Tech Services, which was miraculously open even this late in the night.
Punching in the numbers you dialed and waited for someone to answer and when they did, it was short and to the point. “Library Tech.”
“Umm, hi… my name is y/n and I’m having an issue installing a program on my laptop rental.”
“Hmm. What’s the problem?” Again, not much to go on but the you could admit that tech guy’s voice sounded attractive.
“Well. I clicked on the install button, but as soon as I did a message telling me that I needed admin permission to continue flashed on my screen.”
“Did you try your university username and password?”
“Yes.”
“Did you double check that you typed everything correctly?”
“Yes.”
“Did you try Google?”
“Of course, I did,” you answered with exasperation. He snickered and you felt your hackles rise. You called the number to get helped, not to get laughed at. Attractive voice be damned.
“I promise I exhausted every trick I know, I’m not stupid. But I do have something to finish tonight so if you can help me out here, that’d be great.”
For a split second you felt bad for being short with him but the aggravation was quick to return. He was the one providing terrible customer service… why should you feel bad calling him out on it?
He must’ve gotten the hint because he cleared his throat and started being serious. “The library puts restrictions on its laptops because they don’t want people downloading stuff willy nilly. What do you need to install?”
“Just Adobe Illustrator.”
You heard him typing on a keyboard in the background. “Sounds okay to me. I’ll just give you the admin credentials so you don’t have to make a trip over here tonight.”
You started to say thanks until you processed the end of that sentence. “Wait, what do you mean by that?”
“Normally we require people to come in person to fill out a form. Once the request is approved, a person is supposed to enter in the admin stuff, but I’m going to give it out over the phone to save you some time.”
His words left you speechless. You had no idea there was a whole process to do something so simple as install a program; you should’ve asked more questions before you walked out with it. It was a good thing to remember for next time. And the earlier guilt returned, too. He was being so nice now, bending the rules so you didn’t have to make another trek on the bus, which was quite frankly a gamble after dark.
You thanked him profusely, the tension draining from your shoulders. Once you told him the laptops id number and he was able to confirm that it was rented out to your account, he shared the username and password with you.
With baited breath, you typed in exactly what he told you to and couldn’t help the happy noise that escaped you when it worked. It was impossible that tech guy saw your chair dance through the phone but he laughed again, making you question if he somehow knew anyway.
“Thanks, you’re a life saver!”
He cleared his throat and said “Glad to be of service.” Then he hung up without another word.
You pulled the phone away from your ear and looked at it blankly. What the heck was that about? Thinking back on the conversation left you feeling very confused but you threw yourself into getting your images drawn up on Illustrator and soon lost yourself in the work.
You ended up staying up late well past your normal bedtime but the deadline was enough motivation for you to push through the drowsiness and yawns. Around 3:30 you finally finished and emailed it to the professor so you wouldn’t have to worry about it in the morning.
Sleep came easy that night and you vaguely remembered dreaming about tech guy’s voice which was utterly ridiculous. He hadn’t even mentioned his name, for goodness sakes! Plus, he was so hard to read, bouncing between jerk and nice on a whim. Nope. You were not going to stoop to finding out who he was. Not a chance.
After yesterday’s incident, your first course of the new day was to go grab a cup of coffee. You weren’t an easy riser on a good day, even less so after being up until the wee hours of the morning and caffeine was going to be essential for powering you through your classes.
Your go-to place was a campus coffee shop two blocks down from your dorm. It was still winter but you found that as long as you bundled up, the walk over went quickly and the cold air worked wonders for organizing your thoughts. But the real reason it was your favorite was not its closeness, it wasn’t even for the coffee; it was because of the heavenly pastries they made daily. The croissants, the eclairs, the danishes… they were all excellent. None was above their banana chocolate chip muffins.
A little bell chimed as you opened the door and the blast of heat from inside the shop felt nice against your chilled cheeks. The familiar worker at the register looked up and smiled when they saw you. “Hey, y/n! Should I start working on your cappuccino order?”
“Yes, please!” You approached the counter, removing your gloves to make it easier to take out your card from your wallet. A gleaming dessert case also caught your eye and you tried to glance over discreetly. As subtle as you tried to be, the cashier knew you too well after serving you for the past couple of years.
“Oh, sorry. We’re out those again.”
“Again?” you questioned sorrowfully.
He gave you a sympathetic shrug. “They’re very popular, they always go fast.”
It used to be that you could get your hands on a banana chocolate chip muffin whenever you wanted one but the secret must’ve gotten out to the rest of campus because you’d struck out for the past weeks. With a dramatic sigh, you settled for a chocolate croissant. It was no muffin but it was something to tide over your stomach until lunch.
“You know,” you started conspiratorially, “How can someone be so talented yet stupid simultaneously? If that no-good-baker bothered to make more of them knowing how fast they sell, this wouldn’t happen.”
You had never actually met the baker that was the source of the yummy pastries. In fact, you’d never even seen him and only knew that he was good at what he did and that he never came out to the front of the shop. There was really no reason why you ragged on him that morning other than you had major plans for that muffin that now had to be put on hold.
The cashier chuckled as he rang you up and looked back at the door to the kitchen for a moment. “I’ll pass along the message.” He slipped the croissant in a brown paper bag and handed it, along with the travel coffee cup, over to you.  “Have a good day. See you next time.”
You accepted it with a “You, too,” and were out the door to catch the next bus to your class.
***
Later that week, you ran into a familiar problem with the laptop. This time you needed to add Photoshop but figured that it shouldn’t be an issue now that you knew the password. So when you typed in the exact same thing as last time and the computer told you it was incorrect, you dragged a hand down your face and groaned. Well, you weren’t going to make the same mistake twice.
Swiveling around in your chair you grabbed your phone and called the Tech Services line again. The only thing that would make this even better would be if tech guy answered again, that’s how your luck was going that week. And sure enough, “Library Tech Services.”
You refrained from groaning again. Out loud anyway. “Hi, it’s y/n again. I was the one who called about the admin credentials Monday night?”
“What’s up?”
“I’m trying to install Photoshop right now and it’s telling me the username/password is incorrect, which is impossible because it’s what I used the last time.”
“Right. We had to change the password for our monthly maintenance, it’s a security thing.”
“You’re kidding,” you said surprise coloring your voice. “Any chance you can share the new one with me?”
“Technically, I wasn’t supposed to give that to you last time.”
It was time to turn on the charm and convince him like you managed to previously. As you pleaded with him to do you this favor he interrupted you.
“How bad do you need it?”
What was wrong with you that hearing him say that put your mind in the gutter? He definitely hadn’t meant it that way when he said it! He was much chattier this time around so you were able to appreciate his voice better and his voice just did it for you.
You cleared your throat. “It’s not an emergency this time, no impending next-day deadlines, but I do want to get working on this new assignment…”
“Okay, okay. You’re lucky I like you.” That was news to you because you didn’t get that vibe based on the last call. It was nice to hear though. Some clicks sounded from the other end of the line and you waited silently for a few moments before he was ready to say the new password.
“Whew, we’re good to go,” you updated him as the Photoshop installation started. Another moment of silence passed.
Finally, he said a quick, “Good.”
You weren’t caught off guard when you heard the click that signaled he had hung up. Unlike the last call, he hadn’t seemed rude and he did mention that he liked you. Maybe he was just an awkward sort of guy, despite his killer voice. That might explain why he worked an IT job, weren’t those kinds of guys supposed to have terrible people skills?
You worked with Photoshop for a bit and when you reached a good stopping point, you got ready for bed. That night you laid awake for a while, unable to drift off to sleep. Instead, you replayed the conversation with tech guy over and over in your mind.
He was very helpful when he wasn’t giving an attitude and he this was the second time he had bent the rules for you. That pesky word ‘like’ kept rattling in your brain and you started to wonder if that nice voice belonged to a nice face. Furthermore, was there a chance that he found your voice attractive as well?
***
Sunday morning on a college campus seemed like a smart time to visit the coffee given that most of campus wasn’t up yet, which increased the chances of you getting your hands on a banana chocolate chip muffin. Maybe even two or three if you were honest, to make up for the past several failed attempts.
The sun hadn’t been up long when you opened the door, the little jingling bell announcing your presence. A barrage of delicious aromas caressed your nose and to your extreme delight, one of the scents you detected was a banana-chocolate combination.
You walked up to the counter and the cashier smiled as he told you good morning.
“So… can I get three banana chocolate chip muffins?”
He merely smiled and started working on your cappuccino. “Of course. Reid just finished them so they still in the kitchen, piping hot.”
Reid must be the baker that was responsible for the muffins as well as responsible for never making enough. “Finally! This is a long time coming for me.”
“I passed him your message, I think he took it to heart.” He handed over the drink and turned to go to the kitchen. “I’ll be back with the muffins.”
He pushed the door open and for a split second you caught a glimpse of a side profile belonging to a blonde guy. He was too far away to distinctly make out any facial features but he had nice shoulders framed by his black tee and obvious blonde hair that was hard to miss. He looked cute to you, at least from a distance.
Those two details were the only things you took note of before the door closed, effectively blocking you from more staring. Too bad. It was totally ridiculous to think about but tech guy’s voice would be a good combination with baker guy’s looks.
You picked at the lid of the coffee cup while you waited for the rest of your order already anticipating how they would taste. Your plan was to only eat one this morning and to ration the rest, but you were honest enough with yourself to know that you might enter a feeding frenzy and have all three finished by lunch.
When the door opened up again your eyes searched for the seemingly cute baker but there was no sign of him. There wasn’t a chance to get down about it, however, because a smile lit up your face as soon as you saw the medium sized brown paper bag that held the muffins.
“Reid says these are especially for you,” the cashier said as he lifted the bag over the register.
You were quick to raise your hands to take it from him and made sure to thank him as you left, not questioning why Reid, a person you’d never met, would make a comment like that, figuring that he was referring to how you complained that the muffins were always sold out.
The morning air was especially cold as you trekked back to your dorm, your breath condensing into a fleeting, frozen cloud around your face and the only thing keeping your hands warm was the cappuccino you held between gloved hands. Still, the trip to the coffee shop was definitely worth it and you were hoping that it was a good omen to start the day off with.
***
Perhaps you were still experiencing the high of the morning victory at the coffee shop, but later on that night while you were working on homework once again, you started thinking about tech guy again. There wasn’t any need to call him; you now had both Illustrator and Photoshop on the laptop and there wasn’t anything else that you needed to install.
Still, you debated calling him. Not because you needed to but because you wanted to. Which was weird, even to you, but you had missed him the past couple of days, bad people skills and all. After the second call, you felt even more confident that he wasn’t as condescending a guy as you had first thought him to be. And you wouldn’t mind getting to know that awkward version of him better.
The hard part was you literally knew nothing about him other than he worked the night shift at the library. You didn’t have a name, a face, not even a work schedule to confirm whether he was working tonight or not. Reid must’ve been serious when he told the cashier those muffins were made especially for you because there had to have been a secret dose of recklessness mixed in there. How else would you explain this strange, and potentially creepy, call you were about to make?
The dial tone rang and you took a deep breath, not sure how this would turn out. On the fifth ring, someone finally picked up. “Library Tech Services.”
You laughed in relief. Tech guy was the on the other end of the phone. “Hey.”
“Hey, y/n. Having another crisis?” On one hand you felt a little embarrassed that you no longer had to say your name for him to recognize your voice but on the other, the possibility that he enjoyed talking with you, too.
“It may come as a surprise but I can get through a day without having a tech issue that needs solving.”
“Oh, really?”
“I swear.” You crossed your heart even though he couldn’t see you.
“Well, what do you want then?”
Time to be brave. “Actually, I called for you.”
“I would hope so, I’m the only who works this shift meaning I’m your only option.”
“No, um, I meant I wanted to tell you thanks for helping me out with installing that stuff on the laptop. You were a lifesaver.”
“I try.”
“Seriously! I definitely would’ve missed one graphic design deadline, potentially two if you hadn’t come to the rescue.”
That seemed to get his attention. “Is that your major? Graphic Design?”
“Yep. Don’t I give off bumbling artist vibes?”
“Hmm you seem pretty confident to me but there’s nothing wrong with that. My grandma was—” He started that sentence but abruptly cut off and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“Are you saying I remind you of your grandma?”
“Shit,” he grumbled. “My friends told me to stop bringing her up when talking to hot people.”
“Don’t sweat it, she sounds like she was awesome so I’m honored. But back to the part where I’m hot… do you really think so?”
“Obviously. Do you think I hand out library secrets to every person who calls? Your voice is strong and you sound super smart so I tried my best to be cool with you.”
“Okay but future tip: hanging up on people and not telling them your name is rude, not cool.”
His embarrassment was tangible through the phone and you let him sweat momentarily before speaking. “Luckily for you, I like dorks such as yourself and am willing to look past it as long as I get your name.”
“It’s Reid. Reid Garwin,” he rushed to say.
Now that was interesting. You fell back on your bed, your brain trying to make connections. The name while not super common, wasn’t rare either and what were the chances that you met two of them on the same day. If Reid with the nice body and tech guy, er, Reid with the nice voice were one in the same, you wouldn’t be upset. Quite the contrary.
“Reid as in Reid who bakes my favorite sugar fixes on campus?”
“One in the same. You seen me there before?”
“Only once,” you reveal. “When I went to pick up some muffins this today.”
It was his turn to laugh. “Wait. Are you saying that you’re that customer who called me stupid the other day?”
“…Maybe.”
“They don’t let me out front cause I’m ‘too much’ for people but rest assured that the door isn’t that thick. I feel like an idiot for not recognizing that it was you though.”
The revelation that Reid was baking a tech hero, a winning mix by the way, thrilled you all the way from your head to your toes. At the moment you didn’t even care that he heard you calling him names at the coffee shop although you were sure the mortification would set in later.
“Would you like to go out sometime—”
“You do want to go out with me sometime—”
The two of you spoke at the same time and when you realized that the other had read your mind, you both giggled.
“After you,” you assured him.
“Shit, would you like to go out sometime? There’s a restaurant downtown that’s really good and I promise not to bring up grandma Garwin again.”
The plan was to pretend to think about it but your excitement overrode your brain and you said, “Deal as long as you promise to tell me more about her, not less.”
He started to answer you but stopped suddenly and you could vaguely hear him getting scolded by someone, reminding you that technically he was still on the clock.
“Sorry,” he grumbled, “The librarian on duty told me to stop flirting and get back to work. Stop by the coffee shop tomorrow though and we can talk more.”
You said your good-byes and rolled around your bed, the comforter thoroughly rumpled by the time you stopped. It seemed that your luck may be turning around for the better.
_______________
Thanks for reading my most self-indulgent piece to date. Also my longest! Reid may consider himself to be mister cool, but he is also an awkward bean who would make a great tech guy. It's also my first time experimenting with moodboards, let me know what you think :)

hi! im trying to get into digital art, but I have no idea where to start. for a beginner, what programs/tablets/pens do you use or what tips do you have? thank you so much for any help!
It always depends on your personal preference overall, but programs wise:
Autodesk Sketchbook is free and very good for starting out, it’s got a very simple interface, a pen stabilizer tool, and you can also make your own stamps and brushes pretty easily. (this is the program I use the most and started in) It has an animation ‘flipbook’ tool, but it’s not... great. at all.
Krita is another good free program. It’s a bit more complex than sketchbook but not *too* much. It does have a bit more of a more pixelated look, but it also lends to less blur. (but I like my blur so... also why I like sketchbook). Its a better animators tool, but again, more complicated to understand.
Adobe Illustrator is the Industry Standard among digital artists in the pro world but tbh It’s not my favorite. It’s subscription, and has a very similar interface to Adobe Photoshop. *shrug* It’s fine I guess.
People also use Adobe Photoshop. .....it’s....definitely a photo-manipulation program more than an art program. But you can definitely make it work. About the same complexity as Krita...maybe slightly less, if you ignore a lot of buttons and tools.
I was reminded of Fire-alpaca, fairly easy to use interface and a nice animation program. ( @/kitkat1003 aka @/sanders-sides-reverse-au totally just reminded me of it and uses it primarily)
I’ve also heard of Paint Tool Sai, GIMP, and Corel Painter, but haven’t actually tried them myself or anything.
If you wanna try Vector drawing (aka, Math Drawing. and allows for better image sizing without deteriorating the image) Inkscape is there. (Idk what else is out there in terms of vector drawing, I just know inkscape because I need to use it for making logos and printmaking)
In terms of tablets,
Wacom is usually the go-to for most artists tbh? (They have a small monopoly I think)
I have a wacom pen and tablet called the Wacom Intuos Pro (medium size. about the same size as a sheet of paper). It comes with the pen and changeable tips (which last quite a while tbh). It has pressure detection, you can turn the pen around for an eraser like a pencil, (I use the program’s own eraser tool more often though), and the texture of the tablet is closer to a piece of paper. You have to look at the computer screen though, and the usb cords tend to break kinda easily in my experience? (but they’re relatively cheap and easy to find a replacement) And you can place a sheet of paper over it and trace over it without too much trouble.
Beyond that I think there’s some tablets with screens and pens like the surface pro that work with many art programs, but... they’re basically just tiny computers.
Any other tablets I’ve seen are just... not as good as any wacom options? But hey, I could’ve missed/forgotten some the last time I researched it.
Beyond that, in terms of tips for getting started, don’t try to get too complex at first? I’d suggest scanning stuff in or tracing over them, and digitally inking and coloring them to get a feel for the difference between it and paper. Don’t think about it like traditional mediums. A lot of programs try to claim they’re like traditional media, but, honestly, I feel like that looses the point of digital drawing. Don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t look like what you can do with traditional media. Explore what you can do with the program that you couldn’t be able to do with traditional media. Use your layers!! Also- play with your brushes! Experiment, see what works nicely for what. idk pal, have fun, explore, don’t get discouraged.

There is no better way to get to know someone than through a good question tag. In this case we have decided to make an Indie game dev question tag with the responses of our four developers. We hope that it will reveal many unknowns, but if you are left with any questions, do not hesitate to use our ask.
What part of game development are you responsible for?
Athe: I write and write, I melt in my seat, I correct, I cry and then I program. It’s an endless cycle. Occasionally I laugh like crazy while I eat Pringles.
Sam: I draw and color without leaving the lines (almost always) the sprites, the illustrations and the ravings that usually occur to us past 3 in the morning.
Illy: English translations.
Sher: I draw BGs
What tools do you use (hardware / software)?
Athe: Recently my desktop PC has passed away, so I’ve had to rescue my old PC from the garage. I also have a laptop that saves my life more times than I would like to admit. As for the software, I need, above all, drive documents, video editing programs, image etc (I have an Adobe package) and of course Renpy and Atom.
Sam: My main friend and companion is my tablet, a wacom intuos S (pistachio color, so cute). As programs I mainly use the Paint Tool Sai, because there is nothing in this life like its stabilizer. And less frequently than I would like (for details, texture brushes, effects ...) I also use Clip Studio Paint, which I only know how to use at about 2% of its capacity ... If someday I have time I would love to stop and learn seriously what can be done with it.
Illy: During the school year I live in a residence, so I use an old laptop, and when I return home I use a desktop computer that never has memory space. I translate the chapters in the same Atom where the complete script is and I keep them in google drive files where I share them with our beta reader. I also use editing programs like photoshop when I have to translate comics or procreate for when my artistic skills are required.
Sher: ipad+procreate+some final tweak in photoshop, I don't need much more
What is your favorite part of the job?
Athe: Would it be wrong if I say that is when we released the episode? During the whole production time everything is very stressful, there are times when it’s really uphill, but when we release a new chapter it feels soooo good. It's like saying to yourself, yeah, dammit, I can do it. Look at everything you've climbed by yourself. You're doing it right.
Sam: In general, my favorite parts are when the first scenes start to be programmed, and I can see the sprites with the backgrounds, the texts, and how the illustrations look. Everything always looks so much better when viewed in-game… I also really like being able to check out the script as it is written. And from the artistic part that concerns me, when I see that my hands capture the idea that I had in my head ... Especially in character designs.
Illy: Having to find a way to translate very spanish expressions into English, research vocabulary that I have never had to use and commenting on some translations with our beta reader (which we adore) to make it understandable without losing the original meaning.
Sher: I like to do the lineart when the sketch is complete, if I no longer have to think about anything else and it's just going through it, I find it very fun and relaxing
What is the most difficult part for you?
Athe: Offf, yes, I admit it, sometimes writing is the WORST. Other times I love it, especially when I can expand on the descriptions or stop at a part that is intimate or that I find interesting (for example, Hasiel's conversation from 6.3, small spoiler: P). But, I HATE having to paste scenes, often the protagonist moves between scenes and you always have to add lines to those transitions that really do not interest anyone, but that otherwise the text would be confusing. Anyway... It is a very wide world, with a lot of history, I have to deal with what I need readers to know to understand the facts, although sometimes it gets a bit boring.
Sam: What part does not... Rather who e.e Zihel and Ariel are a thorn in my side. Especially Zihel. I know it has to do with the fact that it has never been my strength to draw boys, and much less if they are more masculine in appearance... That's why I also suffer a lot from drawing muscles. Another thing that brings me a headache is the perspective of the illustrations. Every time I try to get out of the typical shot or poses a little... It doesn't work out.
Illy: Doughy’s  stuttering ¬.¬
Sher: chairs, sofas, tables... anything with four legs is my enemy
Anything to help or encourage you while you are working?
Athe: I need music, no, seriously, I NEED IT. I’m unable to focus without it. If, on top of that, I can get what I hear to act as a sounding board for what I write, the text is a thousand times better... But the muse is a pretty bad person.
Sam: Having a show/movie in the background that entertains me. The longer the better, so I don't have to stop to think what I want to put on next.
Illy: Eating sunflower seeds to trick my brain and not be tempted to do something else that distracts me.
Sher: I try to see other artists to motivate and inspire me before I start drawing, what I find most difficult is that initial push and that is where I need the motivation, then I usually have something in the background but it is not necessary
Something that’s a pet peeve or discouraging?
Athe: Some narrative climax moments. Generally, they are not important plot moments (that is almost entirely decided), they are often small decisions to go from scene A to scene B, but I can spend a LOT of time deciding which is the fastest and best way to tie those two ends. I'm the worst.
Sam: Many times when starting, I can't get the poses to fit the way I want, for example.
Illy: Finding many parts in a row that I find especially difficult to solve and that make me believe that I have forgotten how to English properly. And looking at how many lines I still have left.
Sher: When I don't know how to fill in some area, if I see something very empty but I don't know how to solve it, I can spend days looking at the screen without being able to advance, even if I have other areas that I could do in the meantime
What is required on your table or work surface?
Athe: Notebooks, sticky notes, pens… I’m a person who writes everything down, especially the tasks, but I also order the story by color schemes. The stack of sticky notes have 9 different colors, each one represents a character and I play a lot with them for a lot of nonsense. Besides, even though I have been writing on the computer for many more years than I wrote by hand, I still have a preference for the analogical.
Sam: Coffee, sweets, chocolate, cereals... And cats.
Illy: My phone, the sunflower seeds, a Capital America: Civil War 1L water cup, sticky notes that remind me of tasks.
Sher: I have nothing really lol all my things are for decoration
Your most productive hours?
Athe: Owl. Totally nocturnal. Although I have several crises a month to force myself to work at other times that always end... Wrong.
Sam: Also at night for the most part, although I can no longer stay awake as long as I endured before having a job (the good old days...) However, in the middle of the afternoon, when the zoo that I have at home is still taking a nap, I also manage to go a long way.
Illy: From when I finish eating until 7 or 8 in the afternoon, when I don't have to cook, clean, run errands...
Sher: I take over for Illy apparently, from 7 or 8 is when I start to get into the mood until bedtime
Do working hours make you forget to eat or make you eat twice as much?
Athe: It depends, in the past I ate a lot, now if I have stress I don't eat anything. If I'm in a normal productive phase and I'm not on my nerves, I'm probably eating by inertia.
Sam: They make me eat more, but especially junk food e.e And they make me forget healthy meals, especially dinner at night.
Illy: It depends on my mood, but I usually eat twice as much.
Sher: I'm generally a VERY distracted person so I don't usually get to focus on a task to get to either of those two modes but I guess when I am sooooooo much on the task, I forget. But that happens like a couple of times a year and "forgetting" is "I delay an hour."
What part of your set up would you improve / change (in aesthetics or functionality) if you had no money limit?
Athe: I'm trying to match some of my peripherals with the rest. They are all a damn different color, apparently I'm cursed... Now seriously, I wish I had a better graphic card that would allow me to make video captures, some speakers and a quality printer.
Sam: Actually, I don't think I need anything more complex than what I already have… But if I had to improve something, I'm curious about the most professional tablets, the big ones with the included screen and all that stuff.
Illy: A new laptop that lets me open 4 chrome tabs, Atom and photoshop at the same time without dying.
Sher: A pc screen that will not change the colors I use on the iPad would be nice, really
Which character are you most like? And why?
Athe: Phew I think the easy answer would be to say Akane ... But, Akane is a better person. : P
Sam: This is very difficult... They are all very different, but still I do not think I look much like any of them. If I have to say something, I could identify with Maske's tendency to avoid problems, and his more homey and calm side. And well… Since Akane has been an OC of mine for many years, surely I have something of her too.
Illy: I think I partly have Maske's instinct to stay out of trouble, and on the other hand Joe's shallowness, although tbh I wish I really did look like any of our awesome babies.
Sher: surprised because (unpopular opinion around here) is one of those who I "least care" about really but I would say that Pin because he is a little dumb, happy and probably has a Satanic room and proud of it
Favorite CG/art.
Athe: AT THE MOMENT. Maske chapter 1. It couldn't be more predictable. I know.
Sam: I quite agree with Maske in chapter 1. But I would also put Pin in chapter 5 and Akane in chapter 6.2 on the top.
Illy: Kyeran in Coco's tank ?? Is he even real? Being basic is my brand.
Sher: surprised again and disappointed but I would say that of angel Hasiel because I like pretty dresses, pretty hairs and pretty wings
Favorite BG/scene.
Athe: The Red Light District amazes me. I already liked the life of that place, its history, but the way of expressing it... Uggg Sher took it to another level. The dirt on the street, the night, the constricted buildings...
Sam: I think I’ll say Raziel’s square, I like it a lot from the first day.
Illy: I don't know if I can choose just one T__T but I would say that the Red Light District and Valefar's pub are at the top.
Sher: for not repeating the red light district that I also like very much, I really like the areas of Coco's laboratory, including the “main” area although the perspective is horrible and makes the characters look tiny, but I like how it looks :(
Your favorite chapter to date?
Athe: Ufff... The first and second one I assure you no, hahaha. I will say that the third one, but also for things that are not necessarily from the chapter, but of the production. It was a good moment. I felt that everything was flowing with ease. We all assumed a clear role, they were times that made us feel comfortable and capable of assuming what came next, I think it was a qualitative leap also, both in texts and in art.
Sam: Oh. Well let's see... Chapter 5 is amazing for me, for everything that happens but also because there are many personalized interactions and choices. I can't say I have a definitive favorite, but it could come close… Also from the last ones I really like the 6.2.
Illy: Chapter 5 has so many details, so many things happen, it's hard not to be my favorite. But the last ones with the specific routes are so great that if I stay with the 5 it’s with the  pain of my heart to have to choose one.
Sher: I would say 5 also because in the end when a lot of things happen is when you remember the most

Illy: Las traducciones a inglés.
Sher: Hago fonditos
Sam: Qué parte no… No sale bien.
Athe: Los nudos narrativos.
Y mirar cuantas líneas me quedan todavía.
Athe: Libretas, post-its, bolígrafos…
Sam: Ay. Pues a ver…

It Started with the Hawkeye Initiative & Ended with Safespace & Snowflake: GAME OVER
This is how the comic book industry dies. Or is it a dawn of self-publishing?
If it wasn’t for years of horrific ad sales, it was definitely insulting the vast majority of it’s consumer base. Or more specifically for Marvel’s case, CATERING AN ENTIRE MARKET THAT DOESN’T BUY COMICS IN THE FIRST PLACE. Regardless of intentions, YOU CANNOT MAINTAIN A BUSINESS OF CONSTANTLY FLIPPING OFF YOUR FANS AND EXPECT THEM TO PAY YOU FOR YOUR VIRTUE SIGNALING.
There’s a difference between being progressive with fiction and being a radical activist for the sake of retweets and likes, followed by a selfie for more self-esteem boosts. In a society where there’s no turning back from capitalism, money is your God, whether it’s right or wrong. You could suddenly be hit with a car and you better damn respect that the more money you have, the more likely everything will be fine afterwards. It pays the bills, it puts food on the table, and you better understand, it’s not going to change, outside of an act of God or Aliens simply invading our planet and enslaving humanity. Your pick.
It’s no secret that working in comics sucks, regardless of country. The pay is bad, the deadlines are killer and it has always been the least practical way of storytelling for a mass market, especially in America. Case in point, you don’t really need a colorist, a letterer or anything else, outside of a distributor (RIP DIAMOND). Anyone with a graphic design degree knows, you can easily be a one-man publisher without the need of an entire crew of mouths to feed. Not saying it wouldn’t be helpful, but given the future economy, it will be the norm.
See, the old buzz word of digital publishing really is a big deal, especially when it comes to the incoming job market change. No longer can you simply “specialize” in just one area of expertise, but you will be expected to fill in multiple roles to be successful. Even if time is against you in certain projects, it is entirely possible to save more money by just doing everything yourself. Here are the major hurdles and solutions to creating a new comic in the new landscape of comics next year:
1. STORY - This is where EVERYONE gets it wrong. Do not follow the trend of  IDW publishing by planning out an ENTIRE world building graphic novel that will span DECADES.
Stick to what exactly you’re good at telling. Tell a short story. Polish every line of dialog. Make it shorter. Polish every line of dialog, make it shorter.
Third and most important advice is leave politics out of your story, unless it is about politics. Most older women buy trashy romance novels to escape their shitty sex life. Most middle-aged men by comics for the tits and ass and possibly the articles? Again, all ways of escape reality, yet you have Marvel comics for years that kept interjecting real world politics and views in their titles. Trust me when I say this, less than 10% of the United States is on Twitter. That means most people could give two fucks and a shit about Trump, Biden or Bearnie, BELIEVE OR NOT. So when most of America retreats after a long day of work and not TWITTER, they are spending money on things to make their lives tolerable. Being told Orange Man Bad is not one of those things, nor is bringing up Obama, again and again. Don’t make market assessments based on social media, leave politics out of your comic. Additionally, learn about basic story telling and especially learn from other mediums outside of comics. Films and actual books will teach you a lot about pacing. You can learn basic writing skills by taking a community college course or higher. The goal and mindset should be to be humbled and not a place to be bitter when you get criticism.
2. ART - KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. If you’re catering towards a WOKE AS FUCK CROWD OF TRUMP HATING LIBERALS, make sure you book will actually sell and not retweeted... Simply collecting a check and going unemployed for months on end is not an actual goal in life, much less beg your followers for coffee money. Example, see the animation industry.
Art is your mode of presentation, the book cover (not literally), the point of sale. If you want to cater towards a crowd of people of color, who happen to be gay, trans, and dealing with PTSD, etc, then make fucking sure your art matches with the story. You cannot have “tumblr” artists doing action intensive comics, where they spend more time creating people of color of diverse identity politics, than learning to draw a simple choreographed action sequence. You can’t have an action comic with ONLY 2 small panels of action to sell your comic. Again, no shame or secret to point out that the VAST majority of comic sales are made off of issue #1s and tits and ass. Disposable income of middle-aged men cannot be underestimated, regardless of what cherry pick data you want to argue with. The older you get, the less progressive and liberal most Americans become as well. That’s called “reality” of real politics. So my advice, if you’re into action comics, learn to draw action, learn about the demography that buys those titles and don’t interject your politics in it, especially if you want to put food on the table. I’m not telling anyone to suddenly put Trump as the “good guy” president, but I am telling you that you shouldn’t include real world politics in your comic. You’re not offending either side of the political spectrum, IE, you’re not insulting your customers.
If you want to make a rom-com comic like Archie, sure those years of learning tutorials off of tumblr might pay off, but again, know your audience. Archie continues to sell steadily with a profit from the boomer generation, white women (vast majority), Christians, etc. Don’t expect your rom-com comic of a gender-less trans-protagonist that may or may not want to be dependent relationship with another person of color. You see where I’m getting with that? You’re welcomed to write and draw a book like that, but don’t expect anyone to buy it. Getting your book retweeted by your favorite SJW, doesn’t mean sales, it just spells virtue signaling for them.
My advice in the art category is DIVERSIFY your portfolio. Don’t just learn off tumblr. That boat has sailed and failed, as seen with every sale of tumblr picked artists at Marvel. Go out there (when the virus gets under controlled) and learn to draw from life. Don’t worry about gender, people of color, none of that stuff. Draw stuff that you actually care about and not for political points with your peers. If you wanna draw short men struggling to open a can of coke, then draw. If you wanna draw hot women, draw hot women. You wanna draw a cute tennis player with short shorts and looks like Swedish male model, then pack some sun screen. You’re not looking to be judged, you’re not looking for internet points of how woke you are. You are simply expanding on things that interest you and how it will indirectly help you grow.
Think Mr. Miyagi, but do it 80,000 times. You’ll master drawing short men struggling to open cans of soda!
When creating the art, DO NOT THINK ABOUT COLORING. It is way more profitable to create BW comics than color. Not only do you save money printing, but the amount of time you free up helps you to micromanage yourself better.
3. DIGITAL PUBLISHING - You don’t need anyone else if you have a computer and some basic digital programs. Once you understand how to write a short story, present marketable characters, then you’re set. The only enemy is time.
Learn Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for art. Learn Adobe Indesign for lettering, page layouts, etc. A few talks with a local printer and you can independently self-publish any book.
So to sum things up, learn to self-publish, respect your readers and the politics/baggage that industry houses and understand that things revolve around money. If you want to be a stereotypical far-left wing tumblr artist that wants to create a superhero of a trans-black girl/binary that may or may not want to be involved in a relationship with another binary/trans person, which could be their sister/brother/internet gas, then by all means make that comic. It won’t be profitable nor will it sell compared to other titles, but I guess you can’t claim victim-hood without a self-afflicting handicap and an arrow to the kneecap.
After all, Marvel’s done it for years without profitability and look where the industry is headed towards... This was all pre-Covid-19 mind you. The virus, if anything, is just the nail on the coffin after Diamond distributors quit. The comic industry might be dead, but books as a medium will never die.

Top 10 Benefits Of Having A Digital Marketing Career - 2020
Though the idea of digital marketing in India is not a new one, its implementation and rapid growth fairly and comparatively rare. In contemporary times. It can transparently be seen that the mainstream of businesses is shifting from traditional to digital marketing day by day. To be precise, up until 2010, the traditional business models were dominating the field of Indian business arena and practices. One of the biggest reasons for this happening was the attitude of the entrepreneurs who simply did not want to leave that kind of traditional business media practices.
However, after 2010, a paradigm shift started to happen when these entrepreneurs started to understand and appreciate the stuff that digital media in the fields of business was offering.
Before starting to talk about the opportunities and perks that having a career in digital marketing presents, let's understand the scopes in India in contemporary times. The Indian government has started a program with the name inverted "Digital India" which created a lot of opportunities in the digital marketing branch in order to empower Indian society and economy digitally.
Benefits of having a Digital Marketing Job :1) Freedom :
Freedom is one of the biggest perks having a career in the digital marketing field. Any kind of freedom be it artistic or creative, it is one thing that can be guaranteed in this career as there is a lot of scope for reaching the goal. Depending on how the temper of your employees is, it may also be possible for you to continue your work from home.
It is pretty natural for people to want to use all the platforms in the Digital world in order to provide and sat updates. For example, the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Police is very very active and they provide details of each and every minute to the citizens by using those tweets. In order to make it much more attractive and interesting to be yours especially young ones sometimes the contents which are used are pretty creative. Therefore the freedom that is present in the careers of digital marketing is not just about the culture but also about the quality of work.
2) Demanding Future :
The scopes of digital marketing careers are on the rise constantly. One of the biggest reasons for that being possible is the versatile and flexible nature of the work which makes it so attractive to clients as well as marketers. People who are trying to enter the arena of digital marketing and associated careers have a lot of room to get into.
Those geeks who are savvy with technologies like SEM and SEO and are confident in their technical intellect are especially perfect for this career. Most of the businesses of the whole world are turning towards shifting their marketing techniques to the digital arena and looking at that, marketers can predict that the demand for digital marketing in the future will rise and get doubled up.
3) Scope :
One of the most important things about this career is that it is always engaging and ever-changing. That's what attracts most of the people to work in this field as there is always something to learn. The other thing is the adrenaline rush of getting to do adventures with new clients everyday especially if you are working with an agency.
if you don't want to work under a boss per se, a lot of freelancing options are there too. Portals like Indeed, Freelancer, Upwork, Naukari have freelancing opportunities that they can provide you as a freelancer.
4) Financially Good :
Marketing is one of the key tools for business. Because most marketing today is done in the digital field, the salary of digital marketers is on the rise. It has been calculated that a decent digital marketer on the time of demand can earn $400,000 in a year. One other big plus point is that the rays that you want to get exist at regular intervals. The better you are at your job and the more you are able to upgrade your skills, the higher the chances are to get big fat checks at the end of the day. Those who don't have much experience to start with can also earn around $300000 to $1,300,000 per year.
5) Not a Hectic Job :
Digital marketing is not a job like sales. Unlike traditional marketing where you had to go in order to promote and sell your services here, you can reach your potential target audiences through the web.
Not just manufactured products but also services sectors like restaurants and hotels are also taking the help of online platforms in order to promote their services. Because of the revolution in the technological field, it has been possible for people to promote and market their products and services from one place not roaming around
6) Easy to get into :
High qualifications and technical training to get into this field of career are not very important. There is no defined specific qualification that is required to be a digital marketer. If you are thinking about getting into this field and you worry that you don't have any specific qualifications then the good news for you is that you only need to be serious, creative and must have good communication skills, that's it.
Though it is better to have basic knowledge in the marketing field which you can get from digital marketing courses which are available today everywhere.
7) Discovering professionalism :
As the field that we're talking about is booming with the growing development in the technological sector a lot of opportunities are opening up. Associating oneself with these opportunities can provide a hard-hitting experience with professionalism which one can enjoy thoroughly. The diverse nature of this field can introduce a person to various sides and various ways of the world which eventually can lead to being a better professional.
8) Wide Range of jobs opportunities :
The digital marketing field is not restricted to only one kind of job structure or portfolio.
If you get into this field you will be exposed to jobs like :
Content marketing managerDigital brand managerContent writerDirector of digital marketingInternet marketing specialistInternet marketing directorContent brand managerSocial media marketing managerSocial media marketing analystSEO manager
9) Opportunity to show creativity :
If you are creative and actually in love with expressing your thoughts in an attractive way then this is true "The field" for you. Digital marketing provides various opportunities to showcase your creative skills as part of your portfolio.
10) Get Involved with a change :
Evolution is happening in the field of marketing. If you get involved with digital marketing jobs you will be a part of this revolution. The confinements of traditional media opened its doors to digital media. After that happened, automatically the various kinds of prospects that were intermingled with the digital media started to go up.
Getting associated with the digital marketing field especially in a booming time like this has no cons. If you are truly creative and passionate about your work then this is the appropriate job title for you. Increasing popularity simultaneously generated the rise of career opportunities which eventually in the digital marketing form led to the foundation of various kinds of institutes exclusively to teach and research digital marketing.

Become a Photoshop Expert in 10 Steps
Become A Photoshop Expert In 10 Steps | PS Actions
Being Photoshop users we have to realize everyone that uses Photoshop actions, nobody really knows everything that Photoshop can do. This is amazing and helpful for those how to try to find something new in Photoshop or want to become an expert in Photoshop Actions. Further, if you are a user of Photoshop you should try to learn most of it and keep learning. According to my personal experience, I will recommend the following habits if you want to become a Photoshop Expert.
With the help of this article, we will explain how to become an expert in Photoshop:
Own the Latest Version of Photoshop:
If you don’t have your own copy at home then it’s pretty hard to really experiment with Photoshop. Having the latest version of Photoshop is important too much. Because the latest features usually either make your job easier or give you those facilities that didn’t even exist in prior. According to our experience, we will recommend you try to purchase your own copy because with this you can enjoy lots of features during the creation of photoshop actions for photographpers. So, if you are a teacher or student who is not using Photoshop for commercial purposes, with these professions Adobe allowed you to purchase the educational version at half-price. Further, you can usually purchase this version with all other complete features. When you will buy it then adobe will be allowed you to run your Photoshop software on two systems.
Make Mistakes:
We are sure that you will be fully aware of the quote of mistakes make perfect. Without a mistake, you can’t learn anything or can’t get any expertise. So, Experiment and play with the mistake is the key to learning something beyond the basics. Try out all features of Photoshop tools and filters, and see what they do with different settings. With this technique, you really will learn Photoshop. Take a bunch of photos from your computer or from the camera and apply some tips on those images. For example, you can see how blend modes change an overall image as layers are moved around. You can try all of the layer adjustments, and every filter combined with another filter
Take a Class:
To be honest, we have an awful Photoshop expert at InventActions. He did little beyond schedule what we were supposed to complete in the article. We were stopped going at one point. We had learned how not to teach, and five years later we were teaching Photoshop. What a good expert can do is give us assignments and said never dreamed just do. More importantly, a good instructor can give your personal guide when you don’t even realize you made a mistake, or there’s a typo in the textbook, or you accidentally skipped something, and something goes wrong. Finally, a good Adobe or illustrator will give you projects to do that give you real-world scenarios and specifications.
Go to Seminars:
There are many firms that arrange seminars all over the world in special terms, so try to find any seminar related to Photoshop. We are sure you will much more from this technique and further you will increase your professional links. These seminars have to increase professional creativity and efficiency in Photoshop beyond belief. So join any seminars learn to enjoy and build the relationship. Go to one of these seminars if you can, or find something comparable in your area.
Read Photoshop Magazines:
A lot of professional Photoshop experts publish their magazines and share their experiences, research, and expertise. Like, you can read NAPP magazines that are best for Photoshop users and it comes to American Photoshop publications. You can get it from the book store at just $10 and can increase your exposure related to Photoshop. You can become a member of NAAP and can access to online tutorials. This is one of the best learning sources for photographers and designers. If you want to explore further magazines then Layers is another best choice for you. They also offer the latest reviews, tips, and techniques about the latest design products. They have different types of tutorials related to the design of adobe, illustrator, flash, InDesign, and Dreamweaver.
Read Photoshop Books:
This is another best idea for those who want to increase their professional skills, you can find out hundreds of books that are specially published in Photoshop. But before purchasing any Photoshop book you should be clear about what you want to learn. And get an overview of the content of books, images, and other data. Then feel about the book, is it those that you really want to read. Try to find a book that makes you feel like you can create those images that are mention in this book. Decide what work will remain best for you and look at those books that are written in the same way.
Search Online Tutorials:
Being a professional Photoshop expert we love doing online tutorials. Some good places to find Photoshop tutorials are available on YouTube. Many experts share their ideas and skills on their YouTube channels. We are sure after a little bit of research you will find any best online tutorial that will help you a lot. Try to look for any best tutorial that provides enough images, proofread their work, and don’t leave steps out. With the help of these, you will be able to create an awesome result that will look much like. As with tutorials, your skill level will increase without any doubt. So, now push yourself to do more challenging stuff than you’re used to.
Be a Community Member:
Community membership means you want to excel in Photoshop. You can excel because it’s a modern age of technology and the world has become a global village. There are hundreds of forums, websites that connects professional together and try to build professional relations. You can take benefits to join their community, discuss with them ask the question and enhance your creativity. Recently our Photoshop team also hangs out on Twitter and following a large number of fellow graphics and photographers. They are always feeding new links to incredible online resources. But we found a solution in the form of InventActions blog. Our team research and write different types of articles to share their ideas through the blog. Our team is also a member of ADAC and also we share our ideas with these community members. You can also join them, one of the best ideas and further Real-world design club is also a great opportunity to learn all about design in addition to some of the business aspects of freelancing. More importantly, you can come away inspired with fresh ideas by looking at the works of others.
some examples and work here you can check here, https://www.fiverr.com/users/ajlal_graphic/manage_gigs
Learn Other Adobe Programs Too:
There are many times when a Photoshop project is enhanced by the contributions of artwork done in Illustrator, for example. Learn how to save your work for the press using Acrobat. Learn how to create vector artwork in Illustrator and import the paths into Photoshop. Learn how to place your Photoshop files into InDesign. Learn how various Photoshop plugins can expand your design horizons or make your work easier. These are but a few examples. A thorough understanding of Photoshop must include an understanding of how well it plays with others.
Teach Photoshop:
Teaching Photoshop helped me develop my expertise in ways that no other experience can. When you have to communicate how to do something to someone else, you come to understand it in a way that sets it in concrete in your mind. I often get my students to find something new to learn, and then have them turn around and teach it to another student. And when both students make mistakes during this teaching process, they both learn more. Writing tutorials – and finding out if someone can follow them – takes this concept step further. I wasn’t a Photoshop expert when I started teaching Photoshop. I am now, thanks in part to having taught it.
Further:
you can also check some fantastic work here

my futuristic plan
WARNING: this is taken from my assignment for college class, do not take any information to face value
Part 1: Longer term goal: 3 year planPart 2: Short term goal: Summer internship or entry level Digital Arts related job
Limit yourself to thinking ahead no more than 3 years in the future. Be ambitious but realistic, you probably won't be head of a media empire yet. Envision what you want your life to be like at that time. Will you be at a 4-year college working on a BA in Animation? Working as a junior designer in a marketing firm?
Throughout the world, there are many things a person can do, but with the way, society is now it is quite hard to do the things we want. For me, my goals are impossible in this world, so as a substitute there are other things I could do like making a twenty-minute or more animation by the end of college which I shall plan on taking other art courses and maybe some English courses. Hopefully, by the end of college, I will get a BA in animation.
Take stock of where you are now. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses. Be honest!
I am not a very ambitious person, I dare not to plan very far ahead of the future and I have trouble deciding what to do. However I am quite creative, I accept that I’m uglier than most people, I try making things work, I don’t give up very often, I have great imagination, and I have two thumbs.
Outline the steps you need to take from where you are now to where you want to be.
First I need experience so, I shall take things slow and first animate some more gifs and other short animations in my free time. Since I shall be doing a lot of art classes there will be some times I may be tired of doing it, so then I shall practice my writing and imagination so I wouldn’t deprive of that.
For this part of the assignment, you are going to pretend you will apply for a summer internship in 2021.
Review the internship opportunities posted in the Opportunities!  module (for this assignment they can be open or closed internships) or do a google search on arts internships in LA (some of these will be unpaid but you can still use it for this assignment), or do a search for Digital Arts jobs such as Digital Artist, Digital Production Artist, entry level Graphic Designer etc. (Glass Door is a site I have used)
https://www.lacountyarts.org/employment/international-city-theatre-arts-administration-intern
Look at the requirements for internships or jobs. Some of these will be what are called soft skills such as "hard worker, good communicator, team player" and others will be hard skills such as "knowledge of the Adobe suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects"
Soft skills: Microsoft excel and access knowledge, C++ knowledge, computer hardware knowledge, Adobe knowledge specifically photoshop and illustrator, basic javascript knowledge, and basic Latin knowledge.
Hard skills, Hard worker, good learner, good listener, good editing.
Make a list of the requirements you have, and those you don't have. Consider both soft skills and hard skills. Both are important. In fact, good soft skills can often compensate for the lack of some hard skills since employers will expect to train interns.
Stuff I have are the list above, what I don’t have is: good intrapersonal relationships, communication, and good math fluidity
Look at the following pages that introduce the digital, design, and studio art classes you can take next semester at ECC and pick at least 2 for next semester that would help you gain skills you would need to apply for that internship. For this assignment, don't worry about scheduling issues, just pick the classes based on their content.
I am going to be taking art 42 and art 222, one has to do with animation the other is painting

“quick” life update while i wait for my ipod to charge
(do ppl even still use ipods in this day & age. whats spotify)
i never made any posts abt it but i started the new semester & im taking 2 classes, it’s funny actually bc i waited even more til the last minute than i usually do to figure out my classes & spent the 1st week of school trying to see a counselor to find out if i still needed classes and that’s a whole other story for a whole other day but long story short the answer was no but i decided to take a couple anyway
mainly because every time im not in school The Depression takes over & i just needed something to Do so im taking intermediate painting (even tho painting 1 made me want 2 die every day) and animation (even tho i’ve already decided i don’t want to be an animator????)
so heres the thing, okay, since these are classes i don’t need in order to fill any requirements or anything i had to pick them based on nothing, really, like my main reason for taking classes this semester was to give myself something to do, right. i picked painting because my friend had told me she was taking it so i was like yo i’ll just do that too bc we had fun last time & it’s a good way to stay in contact. originally that was gonna be my only class bc i knew it’d be a lot of work and time but then i talked to my school’s art counselor about transferring to another school after im graduated from here and i’d said i was maybe interested in storyboarding so we looked at schools with animation programs and i decided super last minute to just take the animation class here and Boy what a mistake
last semester i was talking on here about a computer art class i had considered taking but dropped bc it seemed kinda... shitty?? because i hated the way the teacher taught and i felt like i wasn’t gonna gain anything from the class??? well animation is taught by the same guy and hhhhhhhhh he’s so fucking unhelpful it’s such a nothing class
see i was hoping to learn some hand-drawn animation basics like timing, squash & stretch, the fucking bouncing ball assignment, shit like that, right. the teacher was like “today we’re gonna go over the 12 principles of animation” and i was like “sweet i’ve heard of that this’ll be good” & literally he brought up a list, read off most of the names, briefly described a few, and told us to google it if we wanted more info like?? holy shit dude????? thanks for nothing oh my god
i’ve been taking a lot of time practicing animating in flipnote studio on my 3ds and watching youtube videos and i’ve been learning so much more from that than anything explained by my teacher bc godddd. basically what the class boils down to is like. flash animation. so far we’ve been working in adobe illustrator and animate & i cannot stand illustrator. i know it’s a good and useful program and if i wanted to i could learn how to use it & eventually get used to it but just the way he teaches it makes me want 2 slam dunk my computer
the computer art basics class was strongly recommended to be taken before this class but tbh i don’t even think that’s the issue here because i tried to take that class and his method was the same; he does a demo on screen that you’re supposed to follow along and do with him and he explains what hes doing as he goes but he goes so fast that if u miss a step ur fucked
and it’s not just that he goes fast, it’s also that theres no understanding of the program itself, like ok u know how in math there’s all these formulas where if u just plug numbers into them it gives u the right answer? i always understood formulas better when i knew what each variable stood for & why the values were being added or multiplied together because then it made it easier to extract the information i needed from word problems and also helped me memorize the formulas themselves easier because i could make those associations between numbers and purpose. i had the groundwork of the formula, so i could apply it to all kinds of situations
this class is like, he only gives you the very specific formulas required to accomplish very specific tasks in the programs so i can’t make the connections to figure out how to perform other tasks and i get super lost every time & it’s super frustrating & i could ask for help because he comes around and helps people who need it but i sit in the back corner so he never really even looks my way so i feel like i can’t get his attention w/o speaking up or getting up to go get him & i get lost so often that it’s really just a pain to ask him every single time
i just hate when i have a problem in one of the programs & i just have absolutely no clue how to fix it or even work around it? im used to photoshop and illustrator is just so opposite that my brain doesn’t want to work with it so im. 100% floundering in this class
we have 2 assignments during the whole semester, the first was a group project where we hand draw a 3-second animation (~30 frames) and that was literally the very first thing we did in the class with no prior guidance and honestly i suspect that the only reason he assigns it is to fill the requirement for a group project (which i know is a thing bc a lot of my past teachers have talked about it being a thing) so it was literally just. a nothing project
the second assignment is our final which is a 90-second animation (~1080 frames) and we have basically the rest of the semester to work on it, so about a month and a half-ish? and all we’ve learned how to do so far is motion tweening in animate, basically. i mean we did a ball-and-string thing which was kind of different but it mostly involved a lot of copy+paste bullshit in illustrator & also like automatic shortcuts & stuff, there was really no drawing involved at all
also it’s one of those classes where everyone just kind of messes around and does their own thing like?? i saw one girl reading manga on her computer & these two dudes at my table were comparing yugioh cards & i hear like 50 thousand conversations about anime every day & i mean im not one to talk tbh but it’s just the atmosphere, it feels like u either know what ur doing or u just fuck around w/ ur friends and im in the “neither of those” category and the girl who was reading manga is in the “both” category bc every other time i’ve looked over there she’s got this amazing masterpiece on her screen that she made in illustrator & i die inside every time what the fuckkc
he showed us examples of final projects from last semester and i noticed that some of them were done traditionally or in programs that were obviously not illustrator so i asked him about it & he said it doesn’t have to be done in illustrator/animate as long as it’s 90 seconds long so Guess What i think i’m just gonna make it somewhere else lmaooo i mean i feel like it’s a missed opportunity bc i have these programs at my disposal & im not even using them but god amn. god fuckign damn
im thinking of animating it in flipnote bc that’s what i’ve been using & im pretty familiar with it by now but im not sure because there are some important things im not sure i’ll be able to accomplish with it like backgrounds (which are another requirement for the assignment) and i don’t want to back myself into a corner, especially with how little time i have to do it, so idk for sure. my other idea was to use clip studio paint but i have the pro version which only lets u use 24 frames per animation which totals out to a whopping 2 seconds so idk if i want to have to deal with that bullshit either. right now im considering making the rough animation in flipnote so i can figure out the timing & shit and then slapping it into clip studio to finalize everything (or technically i could even do that in photoshop, since im more familiar w/ it & can probably work faster there- from photoshop it’d be a matter of copying the finished frames into clip studio to export into 2-second clips & then compile those in movie maker & then bam finished animation)
so!!! it’s a lot of shit im dealing with in this class & im just like. if im doing it this way then why do i even need to show up for class. what am i even in this class for im just basically making an animation on my own time with my own resources using none of the techniques taught in the class. im only doing this animation because it’s an assignment for the class im not gaining anything from. it just seems so pointless & the only thing getting me through it is the thought that i could possibly put this in a portfolio somewhere down the line, and for that i’d want it to look nice and not rushed so im thinking that for the sake of finishing the assignment i might just use my rough animation so that i can spend more time on the “nice” version afterward
aaaanyway it’s um Late for me & i went on about this for too long but i needed to get it off my chest tbh, i’ve been thinking abt making this post for like 2 weeks so there u go. i didn’t even talk about my painting troubles good lord. if you’ve been wondering why i havent been online as much lately This is why. also bc im a huge loser and 100% of my free time has been going into watching anime bye
