And an old-but-not-as-old-as-her-years-would-suggest Ame will think of a flooded witchfire plain and fire bursting across a platform covered in magical sand and panicking mages.
And she’ll laugh, but it will be tinged with hint of sadness. “Never make mistakes, eh? I know one or two people who’d disagree with that”
And The Witch of Toma would absentmindedly scratch behind the ears of a fox, fur long gone to gray, as a voice in her head would gently say “I know boss, I miss them too”

Okay, I know this is probably not what happened that got The Fox to bite Suvi
But
What if
Suvi, who said “she’ll wake up soon” on the first day back at the Citadel, who visited her as often as she could, probably between other duties, got frustrated as the weeks went by and Ame still lay there unconscious
And Suvi is a reader. So you know that between all the histories and books on theory and practical knowledge there has to be some entertainment. Maybe a myth or two. Maybe a romance here and there. Because she learns everything from books.
And Suvi, desperate and exhausted, has seen so many things not work. So she reaches. For anything. For something from the stories. Even though she know it won’t work. It worked for Sleeping Beauty, though, didn’t it?
So she leans over, brings her face close to Ame, and purses her lips.
And the fox, the poor, sleep deprived, on edge fox, nips Suvi on the cheek.
Suvi lets out a yelp and bolts up, already chiding herself because she knows it is not possible to consent when you’re not awake and she knows Ame would not want this. Not like this, at very least.
She can feel a faint trickle of blood running down her cheek though, so she growls at the fox out of habit more than anything
The fox bristles. “It won’t work”
Suvi doesn’t know what to do with that. “Uh. What?”
“Biting her to wake her up.” The fox looks down. “I already tried it. It didn’t work. You could tell she felt it. it hurt her. But she didn’t wake up. I’m not going to let you or anyone else hurt her.”
Suvi relaxes. The fox didn’t kiss Ame. The fox doesn’t think she tried to kiss Ame.
She. She tried to kiss Ame.
Suvi did not want to even think about the implications of that right now. So she sits back in a chair and picks up the book she was reading.
“You. Bit. Me.” she growls at the fox.
“Sorry. But I’ll do it again if i need to. To protect the Boss.”
Suvi smiles. “Good.”
