#the feminism of the barbie movie is nothing new

Tbh I think the Barbie movie handled its theme of existentialism better than the feminism.
#the feminism of the barbie movie is nothing new#its nothing you wouldnt have seen in a 2016 tumblr post#and in its efforts to platform the struggle of misogyny it unintentionally shrinks the issue of other forms of bigotry#like it IS about a cis conventionally attractive white woman and the prejudice that she applies to her#because shes a woman. so is not on the TOP of the privilege scale and is going to face bigotry as a result#like Greta Gerwig clearly wrote what she knew#and she didnt feel she was educated enough to touch any other topics#the mistreatment of women is a layered topic and it is a complex matter depending on the varied range of women in this world#queer women trans women women of colour#they dont all experience misogyny in the same way that Barbie does#so its definitely not a very rounded discussion#like even Gloria focuses entirely on the pressure of just women in general#like you can claim that shes speaking from her own experience but. its very mouthpiece-ish#her speech is for the purpose of whacking you over the head with the film's message#yknow i think the focus leans too heavily as ''look what we as girls have in common''#but doesnt touch enough on ''but look how we differ too.'' a balance between those two concepts would have been nice#i feel like Sasha being like ''hell yeah white saviour barbie!'' was like a lazy acknowledgement that theyre AWARE of this issue#but like. theyre too deep into the script now#anyway yeah i was just thinking about this cuz of that gifset#Barbie feeling unsafe and being objectified in a public space#while Ken faces no issues whatsoever. even tho he is a loudly colourful flamboyantly dressed man on rollerskates#because we are going for a misogyny message here. so we need to poof homophobia out of existence for a bit okay??#like this is basically what i mean. putting misogyny under the spotlight#and as a result quietly pretending other social disadvantages dont apply right now. bending reality to reinforce the message that we want#this isnt like. a scathing criticism on barbie btw. i dont have a film critic brain#im dumb and i love everything#also im really not the person whos qualified to talk about this#this is just some word vomit because i cant stop thinking about it#anyway i think the themes of what it means to be human and live and breathe fucked royally#i loved that stuff

the complexity of feminism in Barbie (2023) is just *mwah* chef’s kiss
residents of barbieland thinking barbie fixed everything. barbie near-immediately being sexualized and objectified in the real world. teenage girls thinking barbie is horribly misogynistic and supports the patriarchy. so many people on the Mattel board only valuing barbie due to consumerism. barbie thinking she can’t do anything and someone else will come and fix misogyny. barbies brainwashed into enjoying being subservient. barbie feeling like she isn’t enough. gloria telling her she is enough. gloria pointing out the difference between giving women equal treatment and “society claiming they have empowered women by actions they have already done to justify any possible misogynistic action in the future.” gloria saying how nothing women do ever satisfies the patriarchy. the movie itself acknowledging that the movie’s view on feminism is from a white perspective. THE MOVIE EMPHASIZING HOW FEMINISM ISN’T SUPPORTING A MATRIARCHAL IDEAL, IT’S GIVING ALL GENDERS EQUAL RIGHTS AND RIGHT TO IDENTITY. paralleling real world society by giving kens only a foothold in power like giving women only a foothold in power.
feminism isn’t a giant chunk of an idea that can easily be discredited into something as simple as “support women.” it’s a complex issue with individuals of different perspectives that deals with intersectionality and confronting completely new worlds in an attempt to understand others. long story short this movie is a masterpiece

Is Barbie A Joke To Critics?
Just a week ago I wrote an article about the Barbie movie and how it was not only misunderstood but also overlooked when it comes to its deep meaning. We’ve had people like Jo Koy mocking the movie and comparing it to Oppenheimer which is a movie inspired by real events of our past, not only that but the winning song was I’m Just Ken, that alone should show just how little critics care to take what the movie teaches us and use it in the real world.
And we’re back at it. As you know, the nominations for the Oscars have been released. You’d be surprised to see that neither Margot Robbie (the main actress who interpreted Barbie) nor Greta Gerwig (the director of Barbie) got nominated in their categories. Speaking of the directors’ category, Greta is not new to being snubbed by the Oscars, it had already happened with Little Women. The only difference is that in 2020 there were no women nominated as best director, this year we have a female director who’s been nominated and that’s Justine Triet with Anatomy of a Fall, which is not bad. What’s laughable is the fact that Barbie has won the Golden Globes Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and yet its director is not taken seriously.
And we’re not even talking about any film, to this day Barbie has made 1.45 billion U.S. dollars worldwide which makes it the best movie debut for a female director.
Margot Robbie didn’t get nominated as best actress although her performance as Barbie was absolutely iconic, she really brought Barbie to life in a unique way that not many actresses could’ve achieved. If you thought it couldn’t get any worse, let me tell you that Ryan Gosling (the actor who interpreted Ken) got nominated as Best Supporting Actor. That is fair, Ryan did an amazing job at portraying Ken, he really made his character funny and entertaining, he earned his nomination and I’m sure everyone is happy that he was one of the two nominees for Barbie.
But fans were not the only ones who were disappointed, Ryan Gosling himself commented on the matter and showed his displeasure. Here are his words:
“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought l’d being saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.
But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film.
No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius.
To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.
Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.
Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.”
As Ryan said, the only woman who got nominated is America Ferrera who had an impactful role in the movie, her monologue about women and every hardship that they have to face because of society has become viral. Her character represents women, any women, and she did an outstanding job that earned her the nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The only shame is that she’s the only woman who got the privilege of being nominated for a movie that talks about feminism and how women don’t have the same treatment as men.
The Oscars proved Barbie right once again.

Also I dunno whether you've watched Barbie movie in the end, but there is an actually good message of one embracing their life in their *entirety* and not just at the time of youth, energy and beauty in like period from 20 to 30 or something. Though I'd think mention of a scene where Barbie tells an old woman that she is beautiful (thus embracing the idea) and thing about her choosing to become a human and live whole life rather than always be a (literal) doll already would reach anyone by now? 🤔 And also I personally think the message that a person is already valid and enough as their own entity, even without a partner (of the opposite gender in this case) has a good merit (when Barbie and Ken let each other go). Plenty of people still think that they have "failed" in life if they don't have husband/wife. It is important to love yourself first and foremost, rather than place your worth on having a partner! Some people simply will live and die single, and it is not always a bad thing (for example, plenty of scientists of the past never found wives, instead choosing life of solitude for proper pursuit of knowledge). Basically it strangely speaks with men too, not just women. If you didn't have context for the "I am Kenough" pictures here it is yeah
Basically what I am saying is, this movie actually has kinda valid existential messages that maybe *should* be obvious but most people will get caught stressing over dumb things. Like, seeing your "worth" as a human being only in period of youth and beauty is very 'human' message. Recently one feminist movie after another fails and evokes nothing but arguments and hatred, but this movie feels different? But now I do want to know what do you think of it. Would you say that 1) they boosted it with actually very 'human' sentiments to push the agenda better (the 'giving medicine with a spoon full of sugar' kinda logic) or 2) there was *genuine* intention and positive vision of feminism? Like... do you think this is "all part of the plan" but this time trying to be "nice" instead of just insulting their own audience (like feminism movies normally do), or creators had genuinely optimistic vision and what they *think* feminism means? Or maybe the secret third thing where the movie is not bad because it doesn't take itself all that seriously + did NOT have advertisement campaign built on fabricated audience's outrage (you know, THE ones)?
I'm glad you found things in the movie to provoke thought, but I've no intention of ever seeing it myself. It's good to remind oneself sometimes that just because something's in the news this week, you don't have to jump on board the coach and go pay to look at it, with either your money or your time. I've heard in passing many detailed reports on the plot of the film, from many differing points of view, so I feel I've received enough of a multifaceted picture of what it does to know I don't want to waste two hours of my life on it. There are tens of thousands of actually good films out there that aren't trying to smuggle in radical feminist hatred of men, so I'll choose to watch those instead.

The argument that if Taylor Swift/Greta Gerwig/any rich white woman can face sexism and discrimination it means any middle class to poor woman (white and especially of color) can face this sexism and discrimination, so you should be in support of their agenda is stupid and I'll tell you why. No one is saying women of all races and classes don't face discrimination. Of course they do. But there is a fundamental difference in the capabilty between these women and others: safety. A system in place for physical and emotional safety. Taylor Swift and Greta Gerwig and whoever else have a system of safety in place. If they walk the streets of LA, they have bodyguards and protection in place. They have better access to resources for mental health and overall emotional wellbeing. That's not saying bad or unexpected things can't happen and definitely not saying that people don't have feelings. But when I see the things that people deem as issues, it highlights a large contrast in the issues of those in power vs. issues of people with no outlet, no platform, and no voice. Because in the long run the outrage of these things does not help or engage with the fundamental injustices of the world. The outrage over these "issues" that involve privileged celebs in the long run really don't incite change at all or trickle down to the larger population the way people think it does. The Barbie movie getting snubbed does not contribute to injustices and an overall look to feminism. Can it draw attention to a male-dominated culture and space? Absolutely (and it should). But the Barbie movie not receiving nominations for it's female producers and actor is not the same as say a woman in the workplace paid scraps for her hard and far greater labor than 1 or more of her male co-workers. Their world will still go on, not in the way of someone who struggles financially due to these issues with no justice. Because they still have the money and resources to make movies. Looking at the state of our world-if you even just look at the people in Palestine vs the women in Hollywood who just got to attend the Grammys, where they didn't say anything about the horror people are facing, and some and others will later attend the Oscars, you are reminded of the fundamental difference between people with privledge and people with no freedom. They even have financial safety in place. But even if we're not comparing the 2 extreme opposites of Hollywood and Palestine, there still is a vast difference between those people and us when it comes to the right to that safety. Even if you look at Lizzo (bad example given what's happened, but I'm using her as a specific example as someone with 2 forms of discrimination against her), there is privilege there. Do black women in the public eye generally face more scrutiny? Yes. But it is the luxury of that lifestyle that separates from where they were (talking about minorities specifically, but for any woman whatever race) to when they become famous. So, when I see people say that essentially we're all screwed if even a rich, white, and successful woman can get hated and endure what they deem as mistreatment, it makes me upset, because all these statements do is put in place a continuous worldview where white women in power are prioritized above lesser in power women of lower classes and minorities the same way it's always been, and that doesn't incite change. All it does is keep these women in power, who can't even call support for Palestine when they have the luxury to celebrate their music and movies (which in the scope of what I'm talking about add nothing of value to a wider problem and topic). So, these causes for concern from a large section of the public are really minor in the overall look of underprivileged people, grand injustices that don't even make news a lot of the time, and the state of our world/economy (which are never considered priority). And these people that are causing concern for their "being wronged," multiple "snubs," movies, and music can't even say ceasefire when they trend for far more minor things.

I may be a girl, but I don't agree 100% with feminism. Nothing against it. The ideia of iguality is good. But how people use it...that it's not. Instead of putting Women and Men on the same level...I only see men being putting down and women ordering them. This is not cool or healthy. We are all humans here. We should be equals because no one is better than anyone else. This just made me hate some things, like:
. Captain Marvel:
(She gives me the vibe that she doesn't like men very much. Nothing against it, but to almost all of them? I think who watched her movies can answer it better. I only watched one and the best parts were from a man and a cat)
Tumblr media
. Barbie
(The movie and maybe some female characters. They destroyed Ken's personality. Barbie being called fascist and many other things. Only the women getting the power in the end. The only good parts from the movie were from Ken)
Tumblr media
. Annabeth Chase
(She orders and Percy obeys. Not only that, but she even makes fun of his intelligence to other people, even though he is the one to save her most of the times. She tries to sound like she is superior to him and many other things)
Tumblr media
. She Hulk
(What have they done to Hulk? Where is the anger? Where is that monster guy? I didn't want to watch the series...because based on some spoilers, I think I wouldn't like it)
Tumblr media
. Peter Pan
(The new movie from Peter Pan. I didn't want to watch because I knew Disney would make something terrible to the movie. I'm really grateful that I didn't do it. Wendy more powerful than Peter Pan? Girls in the island? Wendy being the hero? Peter without powers? Wendy punching Peter? What story is this? The only good thing was the story between Captain Hook and Peter. Many people must know now that Peter was always the villain...I guess)

Self proclaimed radical feminist who *just so happens* to have zero radical feminist friends, associate with zero radical feminist organisations and read zero radical feminist literature or theory and just so happens I guess to disagree with the main front that radical feminists in the West are currently going to war on (Like saying, "Im a Communist who supports the USA in the Vietnam war"). Probably supports prostitution, watches porn with her boyfriend, dresses for the male gaze and agrees for her boyfriend to open the relationship "just for other women" and go to strip clubs. Then she'll hire a surrogate from the third world to carry her baby when she can't conceive. Highly doubt that a "radical feminist" who "supports trans rights" (AKA is against women's rights and child safeguarding) has anything in common with radical feminists. Radical feminism means seeing the new Barbie movie when it was in Cinema I guess.
I mean, it's consistent with the ideology I guess. If a man can "identify as" a woman with nothing in common with them then a non-radfeminist can also just "identify as" a radical feminist while disagreeing with everything they believe in.

Thoughts on barbie, but not on the movie itself just audience reaction, anyway here is my hot take, barbie isn't a franchise movie in the way comic books movies are BUT it is still a big movie from a big studio based on a product that has been popular for decades, so some people set out to watch it maybe thinking it would offer the same kind of apolitical approach as those other movies, the difference here being that greta gerwig (and also noah baumbach as her co writer) had more freedom to say what they wanted to say than directors under, for example, Marvel's iron fist and absolute need to make movies look somewhat uniform, and having this sort of expectation for one more normal franchise movie be broken by the movie leaning heavily on feminism (and mainstream feminism, mind you, at least for me there was nothing absolutely new there) that it just melted the brains of part of the audience who thought they would just have some easy entertainment (i'm not ignoring the fact that conservatives also go bananas over some Disney movies, that is not my point, i'm thinking about more moderate people here not fucking Ben Shapiro and the sort).
In conclusion or in internet lingo TL:DR: most of the movie going audience got so used to (big) movies trying to stay as neutral as possible on politics and being bland, that getting some spice was too much
P.s. I think the success of this movie proves that studios should give more room to directors/writers say what they believe in instead of forcing creative people into a mold, because even tho it has detractors, they are still making the big bucks they crave so much

Oscar Snubs
My take on this whole Barbie thing: 1. Barbie was a fun movie, but it wasn't so good that I feel like it deserved any nominations really. 2. If you ARE going to nominate Barbie for anything, it IS ridiculous to nominate Ken twice (Ryan Gosling and I'm Just Ken) and give nothing to Barbie herself or the woman who directed it. Though this is really an argument for Ryan Gosling not getting a nomination, rather than Margot or Greta getting one as well. 3. As producer and director respectively, Margot and Greta DO have nominations since Barbie has been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. 4. The fact that this blew up to the point that it did is peak white feminism. This doesn't need to be on the news. The entire Best Lead Actress category is white except for Lily Gladstone (first indigenous person to win a Golden Globe, first indigenous woman from the US to be nominated for an Oscar). White women are not lacking representation in the Oscars. 5. The focus on Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig takes focus away from America Ferrera and her first ever Oscar nomination. Why aren't Barbie fans celebrating her? 6. The Color Purple was a fucking phenomenal movie with amazing performances across the board. This was the first time Black people actually got to direct it and it's just such a gorgeous film. Danielle Brooks was wonderful and stole the spotlight. She ABSOLUTELY deserves her nomination and I'm rooting for her to win. But it is a CRIME that she was the only one to get a nod. Fantasia and Taraji both deserved nominations, and the directors Blitz Bazawule and Marcus Gardley deserved nominations, too. 7. Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig have three nominations each. They'll stay booked, they'll stay busy, they'll stay making more money than their Black and brown peers. And I have no doubt they'll secure their wins eventually. It doesn't have to be for Barbie. How often do you see Black people in the Best Director category? Of the ten slots there are for best actress (lead and supporting) how many do they give to white women vs women of color? How many go on to actually winning an Oscar? When people of color DO win an award, how often do you hear them making history as the first to win in 50 years? Or the first to win period? Margot and Greta will be fine. I never see this energy for non-white people who get snubbed. 8. Watch The Color Purple

Barbie is Maleficent Bis : pretend te be feminist while putting down orignal Barbie
Tumblr media
So i have Watch Barbie. Sadly I hate it 🥲because i adore the actors and the existential crisis of Barbie was very interesting idea ( not really exploit on the movie) . Really I hate that movie. there was plenty reasons that make me hate the movie but the ultimate one : thats basically Mattel version of Maleficent. And I hate maleficent for what it did to sleeping beauty 😂😭
that's a movie that is gonna passed his whole marketing campaign trying to hype you about something beloved from your childhood promising a coherent adult story about that beloved character/story. ( sleeping beauty/Barbie) but once in the cinema : this has nothing to do with the source material when they whole existence is based on. They put adult theme very weird such like Rape and patriarchal society ( wtf) but also they are extremely insulting piece of movie because the Writer that was thinking herself so smart and feminist end up not making any single research about the source material or just not caring and decided to put down original aurora. Original Barbie. Which is the whole contrary of feminism putting down an other women.
( long post and spoiler ) my post is more about discovering the world of orignal Barbie that a review of Barbie.
1- Ken
Ken in the movie is an accessory Not Barbie lover he had no job except beach ?
Yeah like king Stefan who is a loving father for aurora who is gonna want to cancel the wedding because he care for her feeling is gonna be turn into a Monster that don’t give a fuck about aurora….
well i make research 2 second thats actually Fake news !
Ken was always mean to be the PERFECT MEN for WOMEN ! He is sweet but still mainly !! He is cool but not stupid !
Ken is Barbie’s counterpart. He is her double. Her twins in some way. he is NOT an stupid silly extension. and have plenty activity. Kenneth is Barbara Brother in real life.
( exclusive reaction of ryan gosling when he read the script)😂 love that gif
Tumblr media
« Kenneth Sean "Ken" Carson is a fashion doll and fictional character introduced by American toy company Mattel in 1961 as the counterpart of Barbie, who was introduced two years earlier Ken was introduced as a male counterpart of Barbie by American toy company Mattel in 1961 » Wiki
So Ken was always mean to be Barbie male version and that’s logically because when we think of Barbie we think immediately of Ken after he is not just Ken that’s only a weird idea of the movie. And little girl playing less with Ken is just the sign that they prefer Barbie because she is a girl not that Ken is a silly little dumb acessories for Barbie.
He was named after Kenneth Handler, Son of Barbie creator/inventor Ruth Handler, just as Barbie was named after her daughter.
like a said before....Sick. really Sick. because the whole moving passed his whole time humiliating Ken. And Ruth is gonna meet Barbie and have a mother-daughter meeting so son are useless I m sure Ruth handler is gonna appreciated ! Lol! love it ! 😍
I found GOLD in wiki that give you a taste of their mind behind that movie : in the movie Ken is said to be only silly jobless dolls and Barbie a super powerful doll because she can all the jobs she want.
All Ken occupation on wiki 😝 ( yeah Ken WORKS just like Barbie ) : Total 76 some examples : Astronaut (clothing pack 1965) Banker (playset 1995[17]) Barista (2019[18]) Baseball player (clothing pack 1991[19]). Basketball player (clothing pack 2021[20])Beach (2023[21]) Boxer (clothing pack 1963[16]) Businessman (clothing pack 1992[22]) Cameraman (playset 1987[23]) Coach (clothing pack 1992[24]) Country Western singer (1999[25]) Cowboy (Venezuela-exclusive Llanero 1989[26]) Dancer (2011[27]) and plenty others Dentist
Ken have occupation just like barbie....the only fake occupation come from the movie..."beach" so there is not any "Ken is jobless and Barbie is better than him" thats a made up fairy tale of the movie that want to belittle men.
II- BARBILAND
Just like the land in maleficent has nothing to do with sleeping beauty same same for Barbie. In the Movie they live on a World where Women hate on men and men after on women not treat them really well. A Matriarchal society. where Ken suffer and Barbie don’t love him.
BARBILAND ORIGINAL WORLD
Barbie's sisters ( all info are found on wiki it’s long I copy the text )
Skipper Roberts (1964–2003, 2009–present): The first character added to Barbie's family, she is Barbie's younger sister. Originally around 8-years-old, she was changed to a 14-year-old later on. After stopping production in 2003, Skipper dolls returned in 2009 with brown hair and a new colored streak (purple or blue) in her hair. She is one of the main characters in Life in the Dreamhouse and its follow-ups, where she is shown to love technology, music and gadgets.
Stacie Roberts (1990–present): Originally introduced as Kelly in the 1990 Wedding Day Midge gift set as the flower girl, this doll was renamed and re-introduced as Stacie shortly thereafter in 1992, and the Kelly name was instead used for her younger sister. In Life in the Dreamhouse and Dreamhouse Adventures, Stacie is 11 years old and shown to be a competitive, skilled athlete. She has her own line of sports-themed dolls called "Team Stacie".
Kelly/Chelsea Roberts (1995–2010 as Kelly, 2011–present as Chelsea): Barbie's youngest sister, approximately 6 years old, then later 7 years old. Chelsea loves the color pink and has blonde hair and blue eyes like her older sister Barbie. Chelsea is the star of her own series, Barbie: Dreamtopia.
Barbie's parents
George Roberts (1960–present): George is Barbie, Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea's father and the husband of Margaret. Originally just a book character, he has not been issued in doll form but has appeared for the first time in animation in the digital series Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures. He was originally an engineer, but his job changed to documentary filmmaker in Dreamhouse Adventures.[12]
Margaret Rawlins Roberts (1960–present): Margaret is Barbie, Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea's mother and the wife of George. Also, originally a book character, she has not been issued in doll form, but she made her first on-screen appearance in Dreamhouse Adventures. She was initially a homemaker, but in Dreamhouse Adventures, she is a computer engineer and the designer of the Roberts family dreamhouse. She has a sister named Millicent.[12]
Tutti and Todd (Tutti: 1965–1971, Todd: 1965–1996): Twins, both Tutti and Todd were younger siblings of Barbie and Skipper and had seamless 'bendy' bodies with internal wires.[13] The two were only sold together in one set. They debuted in 1966 and were available in the US until 1971, remaining on the European market until 1980. Todd was reintroduced in 1991 as part of the wedding party for Barbie's best friend Midge Hadley, but Tutti was not reintroduced, with new sisters Kelly and Stacie taking her place. Mattel produced several more of the new Todd dolls over the next few years, but Todd was dropped from the Barbie line after 2008. The last version of Todd was the 2008 Todd and Stacie Mary Poppins boxed set, with a comment on the back that "Todd and Stacie are dressed as Michael and Jane from Disney's Mary Poppins".
Francie Fairchild (1966–1977): Marketed as "Barbie's Modern Cousin," Francie paved the way for Barbie's transition into the MOD era. Francie appeared to be only slightly younger than Barbie, and had a straight, streamlined figure. The Francie doll was the first to feature rooted eyelashes. In the March 1966 issue of Barbie Magazine, she is the daughter of Claude and Lily Fairchild.
Jazzie (1988–1992): Another cousin of Barbie and part of a small group of high school age dolls. She was taller than Francie, with Jazzie being almost the same height as Barbie.
Kristine "Krissy" Roberts (1998–2001): This character is an infant and is only intermittently included in the Barbie sibling lineup.
Blaine Gordon (2004): Barbie's Australian ex-boyfriend, whom she dated during her much-publicized "breakup" with Ken. Blaine is said to be the brother of Summer, one of Barbie's friends. Blaine does not show up in any of the Barbie series but was originally a character from Generation Girls and showed interest in Ana.
Ken family : ( all info found also on wiki)
Edna Carson (mother) ,
Kenneth Carson (father)
Iazzy Carson (sister)
Tommy Carson (brother)
Barbie Roberts (best friend, girlfriend)
Barbiland Exist. has an existence for little girl and that Family Place that no an overtly girly world. Authors make a wrong inaccurate version of Barbie World.
Barbie whole Script by not doing research ( or they just dont care ) is an infuriating story that end up very insulting and infuriating because yes Ken is not just Ken in the original version Kens has Job like barbie in the original version Ken and barbie have a family and are not in over girly world and Barbie is a sweet girl very cool and feminist when you learn about her.
Conclusion : yes Barbie is anti men propaganda if you Change source material that was not belittle man and you belittle man. Then that means yes you are not being feminist you are hating on men.
II- Barbie and Ken relationship
Except the screenwriter no one , literally no , literally not any single soul on earth has associated Ken with a "nice guy". and literally no one no one was thinking «  Barbie hate Ken and is a bitch » literally no one take « barbiland » for a matriarchal world but a cute place. And really no one no one has associated Barbie with things like patriarchal matriarchal. so barbie and ken hate each others and are gonna learn to only be Ken and only Barbie. and to enjoy your womanhood and Menhood you need to be separated ! you cannot love someone nope sorry !
We can have an idea of their relationship based on toys story and barbie cartoon :
Barbie is a very cool friendly girl that is doing plenty different jobs not because it’s give a sort of power over man but because she just like being a doctor a lawyer an astronaut and Ken that’s her boyfriend or just best friend sometimes !! he also have job he is very cool. She can appreciated her womanhood and her boyfriend Because Ken is a healthy guy he is not an Asshole and has no problem with her doing what she wants he doesn’t feel his manhood is threatened and he is hot. ( really I have watch cartoon moments they have a lot of chemistry and are fun together) Ken is cool guy. Barbie is very cool guy. But to know that you need to get yourself interest into Ken and barbie ! even in toy story their interaction are very fun ! they are very likeable couple ( well in my opinion). 😊
Original Barbie and Ken are fun very healthy very cool Duo. And with them there is no «  just Barbie » and just «  Ken » because they are before being love interest BEST FRIEND.
By by ignorance and lack of respect Barbie took the healthiest coolest couple on pop culture to wrote a very hateful story that put apart Ken and Barbie who are originally best friend before being lovers when Barbie was already feminist. just like how maleficent put a story even less feminist that sleeping beauty by tearing apart Aurora and the fairies when the fairies were already Feminist.
III- Same Accident that With Maleficent :
Maleficent passed her whole time insulting the fairies when Flora was name in 1959 After Walt mom.
Barbie passed her whole time insulting Ken when Ken was name after Ruth Son Keneth Handler
Even worst : really sad !
Flora died very tragically from a gas accident in 1939. "due to a gas leak in the house the two brothers had recently purchased for her" Walt accidentally feel responsible of his mother death and name in 1959 Flora afer her.😞
Kenneth Handler died very tragically from a tumor that was rumor after also to be possibly AIDS diagnostic in 1994 when Ruth will deceased 8 years after him in 2002.😞
Behind Flora and Ken there is a part of the sorrow of a Son and a Mother.☹️
To finish We could have the two most genuinely feminist movie of the whole galaxy of movie with original Sleeping beauty and Barbie adapt for adult but it’s never gonna happened because authors put down an other woman « not enough feminist » and decided therefore they should not care about the original material and end up just being a feminist hating on men movie.
I think I belong to small minority that didn’t like it 😅

Me: *watching "Barbie"*
Me: WoW, I feel like it completely missed the point and doesn't really understand matriarchy and feminism. Besides, the movie itself as a story wasn't that great, not bad, but still. Not to mention that Mattel is very hypocritical and has always tried to avoid being label as feministic. On top of that, the "CGI is bad, we are doing this the old way" marking makes make my blood boil ("CGI" has existed for a long time, even before the effects were computer generated, if you think it's a new thing to paint most of the scenery or add a crowd than you know nothing about cinema), especially when you notice the deleted blue screens in BTS videos.
Some random women on the internet: I related to the X character, this move was so meaningful to me, it opened up the room for an important conversation in my home and in society.
Me: You know what? I'm glad you enjoyed it and felt seen thanks to it. Who am I to rain on your parade?

I did finally see the Barbie movie. I watched it on a flight from London to New York; it was December 23 and we spent it above the clouds heading westward, so I had hours of extra sunlight on one of the shortest, greyest days of the year. Upgrading to first class was relatively cheap so my dad and I did that, and almost no one else did, and it was quiet in the cabin apart from the family of five who took over about twelve seats' worth of space plus one of the bathrooms. During the weeks previous to this I visited three countries including two I'd never seen before, so the Barbie movie was really a pretty minor event in my December in general; final verdict was more or less that it was funny and also had about seven climaxes and seemed to be interested in talking about Womanhood with a capital W along axes that don't mean a whole lot to me. I dunno, questions of what women "have to" be like (and how motherly or submissive or whatever), to use the words of the big climactic speech, just have a whole lot less to do with where my mind is at on feminism these days than questions about bodily autonomy and work and care, none of which affects the plastic dolls in Barbieland very much. We passed over Greenland at some point in the middle of it, and they gave us some boxed snacks and then a meal immediately after that; I still have the boxed snack leftovers in my fridge but I should probably throw them out at this point. After Barbie I went on to watch The Duke, which I had heard nothing about when it came out even though it stars Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren with Anna Maxwell Martin in a small role; it was charming and unexpected, based on a true story. Eventually we got to New York and took a long, rather unpleasant cab ride to Grand Central Station and caught a train to Connecticut, which was so busy (bunch of people who had gotten out of Broadway matinees, bunch of Rangers fans) that we had to stand half of the way to our destination. The pair next to me, who seemed like maybe a mother and adult daughter, chose to sit on the floor and they talked to each other in a language I would cautiously identify as Russian, except when they dipped into English for phrases I assume they were quoting and laughed at them together; these all seemed memorable at the time but the only one I remember now was "I'm a stripper from South Africa." The day went on for hours yet after that.

This will be my last post on Barbie. Some spoilers below.
I've been seeing some posts about how we shouldn't complain that Barbie is too simplistic. That most women don't even think about feminism and only those who are terminally online already know the stuff that was talked about in the film.
And I'm so confused?? Where do you all live? I watched this movie with a conservative woman who doesn't care about feminism and is all about just living our lives. And she liked the movie too, thought it was okay. But later, when we talked and I told her about how some people were hailing it as revolutionary, she was confused too. Because it's all stuff she knows about already.
In my experience, it isn't that women don't notice the injustice. It's just that they are indifferent about it. Whether it's about how husbands stole from their wives to write, or how violent cops are to their families . The reactions mostly vary from:
Yes, I knew that.
Ah, well that's just how things are.
This is where, for me, the disappointment about Barbie comes in. Because the movie does the same thing. It points out all these problems that men caused and does nothing about it. No, I didn't expect the Barbies to go on a Ken killing spree. But there was no reason to spend so much time on Ken in the first place. To apologize to him, to give him sympathy. Give him time. It would've been much better to ignore him. It's like one of those men need love too posts. They just turned women into their servants. Why are we still sympathizing with them?
In the end, the movie became about Ken. Sure, some women are talking about the message. But most news are about Ryan Gosling. Let's hear the amazing song Ryan sang for the movie. Is anyone else addicted to I'm Just Ken? Wow!! Ryan did amazing. I love Ken. Ryan deserves an Oscar. Where can i get the Kenough shirt?
Which pretty much summons mainstream feminism nowadays. Yup, let's focus on the men. They suffer, too. While ignoring the fact that they are culprits. So it's okay to be disappointed.
As a parting note, I will say that I exclude teenage girls from what I wrote. I do think that this movie will be good for some of them and will awaken feminist thoughts. As for the rest of you... if you need Barbie for feminism, good luck to you.

I’m kinda losing it over how silly people are being about The Barbie Movie. Like you got misogynists doing their thing, nothing new. But all the people saying it’s not feminist enough are kinda ridiculous. It perfectly executed what it intended to be with applicable and accessible feminist takes, and has a lot more rewarding unspoken depth if you’re looking for it that people don’t give it credit for. And it ultimately focused more on making women (and men!) feel seen and validated rather than on having the deepest takes, which is a perfectly fine direction to take for a summer blockbuster!
Sorry it wasn’t a 3 hour documentary about feminism and how barbie dolls are evil, but the movie was literally never going to be that. Judge it on its own merits instead of just using it as an effigy to be mad about something else, expecting the Barbie movie to also “solve gender inequality” in less than 2 hours while every other movie is spared the expectation is a bit ridiculous folks, c’mon

ok yall some of you are a bit out of your mind i think like. yeah, barbie is a fun, enjoyable movie about womanhood that is pretty well done and really funny. however nothing this movie said at any point is even remotely revolutionary or very new or super bold and daring and i am not saying it has to be but some of you are kind of pretending like this movie reinvented feminism
