The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia

Another Netflix original series that's actually good and was cut short is The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia or Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love. With two parts and 15 episodes total, this show tells the story of 15-year-old genius, Ashley Garcia, who travels across the country to live with her uncle and work on her career in robotics.

Growing up as a genius with an overprotective mom, Ashley missed out on a lot during her childhood. Now that she is living with her uncle and has reconnected with an old childhood friend, Ashley is finally getting to experience a more normal teenage life as well as getting to catch up on some of the things she missed.

Throughout the series, Ashley adjusts to the changes in her life, makes mistakes, forms friendships, falls in love, struggles with her job, and begins to see that there is more to life than just science and the small amount of experiences her mom allowed her to have.

The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia is a fun, comedic show to watch that keeps you intrigued but also relaxed. This is the perfect show to watch when you are having a bad day or when you just want a laugh. It has a fun plot that is easy to get into and characters that are easy to fall in love with. I watched this show during quarantine and it was very comforting. This show is short and sweet and the only thing I remember really bugging me is that it ends on a cliffhanger. The show is definitely set up to have another season, but I don't think we're actually going to get one. Overall though, I highly recommend it and give the show a good 8/10.

Entertainment Spotlight: Conor Husting, The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia

A fresh new face in the entertainment industry, actor Conor Husting has quickly positioned himself as a one-to-watch. You can catch him in Netflix’s new comedy series, The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia with executive producer Mario Lopez. Born and raised in Santa Monica, CA, Conor was exposed to the entertainment industry from a young age, but it wasn’t until he was scouted at the age of 17 that he began his acting trajectory. Immediately following his first few auditions, Conor landed a role on Netflix’s Prince of Peoria. Outside of entertainment, Conor is also passionate about giving back. He volunteers with “The Giving Spirit” which provides aid to homeless people in the Los Angeles area and is actively involved with “Amor,” which organizes mission trips with the purpose of building homes for families in need. He took the time to chat with us. Check it out:

How would you describe the character that you play on The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia?

Tad is an outgoing, likable and eccentric character. What he lacks in book-smarts he makes up for in street-smarts. He’s also quick to help a friend.

When you think about the experience of filming, is there a specific funny story or moment that sticks out to you?

I fell a lot whether it was from running down the stairs too fast or leaning back in my chair. It happened frequently and was almost always a comedic spectacle on set.

What’s something about your universe that you would like to expand (e.g. travel more, learn how to play piano, etc.)?

I’d love to get a bit more education on how the United States government works. Sometimes it feels like I can’t form proper opinions because I don’t know the whole story. I’d also love to travel so that I can get a little perspective of the world.

What’s the funniest photo that you have on your phone right now?

Can you take us through a typical day on set?

Every day on set is different from the next which is why it’s so exciting. However, it’s a lot of rehearsing and blocking scenes before shooting them!

Do you have a favorite character arc from the show?

My favorite would definitely be Victor Garcia’s. I think the responsibility of caring for a teenager brings out the best in him and it’s really fun to watch.

Is there a scene or moment from The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia that you’re most excited for fans to see?

Tad may or may not attempt to twerk at some point and I think people are really going to enjoy that.

If a theme song played whenever you entered a room, what song would it be?

Sabotage by the Beastie Boys.

What are you most excited about right now?
