Self Portrait (WIP)
So, we're working on cover art for my book, The End of the Tunnel, and we've almost got the Blender mesh done for my model. I'm very excited about this, because this is really quite close to what my vessel looked like aboard the Sunspot. Sarah and Goreth have been a big help in helping me to visualize this.
Tumblr media
There are a few details to finish, yet. And before we send this to print we're going to want to take a smoothing tool to a lot of those curves and vertices.
The figure in the background that's full of stars is a stand-in for @ohthatphage. We're planning on completely redoing its mesh and texture as well.

So. In our story we just wrote, the heroes write up a contract for their system, and then the narrator writes it down in their own language (Inmararräo, one of our conlangs) as well.
We haven't finished the translation work yet. But here's the first paragraph of it:
We, Sarah and Goreth Ampersand, as the original hosts of this vessel, hereby officially welcome Phage, a.k.a. Mau, a.k.a. efejee, to our plurality and our vessel, to join with us in our life and our goals for it. We thank it for its help so far, and with this document we hereby lay out our requirements and needs and expectations for behavior. These are also to be understood and adhered to by everyone else inhabiting our system with us, including ourselves:
And this is what it looks like with the word order rearranged to prep it for translation:
To join with us in our life and for it goals Welcome to our plurality and vessel Phage Original hosts of this vessel we, Sarah and Goreth Ampersand. For its help so far thank it we, and hereby with this document lay out for behavior our requirements and needs and expectations we. Also are to be by everyone else with us, including us, inhabiting our system with us understood and adhered to These:
The name Phage is just going to be rendered as Mau in the Inmararräo version, as everyone who speaks that language knows it by that name.
It's also not going to be a literal translation, but it will be pretty close, since it's pseudo-legalese.
Thinking in VOS word order instead of SVO (like English) is not a thing we've trained ourselves to do yet. But the more we work with it, the easier it gets.
We might be messing up a bit there, but it's all going to be rendered in Inmararräo orthography as well, and nobody reading the book will know. Not, at least, until they learn the language, too.
What's really fun to us, though, is how understandable it still is in rearranged English, so long as you're aware of what's happening. It's obviously wrong for English word order, but our minds can adapt to it at least.

Ashwin the maybe not so Artless
Oh. Oh, wow. Oh.
Maybe I am the Linguist.
Maybe it's because I'm just strongly coconscious with a couple of my headmates, but it doesn't feel like I am. But I woke up today fronting strongly and I've got all these memories I'm reminiscing over as if they are mine.
Memories of writing our languages, Fenekere, Mäofrräo, and Inmararräo.
Memories of skulking r/conlangs with @fenmere while at work.
Memories of writing posts about our languages.
Memories of interjecting into @your-tutor-abacus' book with nerdery about our languages for it.
Shit. I even remember our first attempts at making a conlang in middle school, and studying up on Irish Gaelic, German, Korean, and Spanish around high school and college.
Just as strong and present and feeling like mine as my recent memories of writing my own book and living its events in our head.
So, I'm writing here in our system's blog instead of my own, because my own is dedicated to the kayfabe we created for my book.
In that blog, I write as if I'm living in a much, much smaller system with Sarah, Goreth, and @ohthatphage (who are real people, btw!) having traveled an uncounted number of parsecs across the universe through the Tunnel Apparatus, in a different part of Portland than we actually live. (If you go looking for the house we describe, you're not going to find it.)
I don't want to break that kayfabe there (@ashwin-the-artless). But, here? That's what this blog is for.
Honestly, it makes sense that I'd be the one to come forward and take the name Ashwin. The whole point of my book, The End of the Tunnel, is to tell the story of how our translation team got here to Earth to publish the Sunspot Chronicles for you.
But this explains why I've got such a strong handled on English idioms and my own colloquial U.S. English dialect and voice. I've actually been speaking this language for nearly 40 years, maybe longer.
In my book, I handwave it off as sharing the linguistic centers of Sarah and Goreth's brain, of course. Because that's actually a plausible and very common thing among systems.
In our actual system, the Inmara, that's how it works. Maybe with some active help from other headmates, even. All of the girls, who live in the right hemisphere of our brain, think in wordless thoughts, and get help from us dragons for translating them into English words.
Sarah and Goreth's fictional system was made to work the same way, but with 4 million fewer headmates.
Anyway. Hi!
Nice to meet you!
How are you?
~ Ashwin Pember, maybe not really the student of Metabang, maybe actually very much older than Metabang

Imagine this. The stadtwatch finds a tunnel underground somewhere in Ketterdam. They're like "Wtf is this doing here", climb in and follow the tunnel, thinking it's leading them to an underground crime syndicate or something, only to find Kaz freaking Brekker at the end of it with a shovel in his hand. They just stare at him for a moment and he stares back until he eventually says "Leave" with his appalled, scratchy ass voice as if they just broke into his living room and invaded his privacy. The stadtwatch officers are entirely confused and unsure how to handle this situation, so they just awkwardly retreat, one of them even mumbles a "Sorry".
Kaz turns back to his work shaking his head, being all like "The NERVE of some people"

Goreth
This will mean more once my book is published and people have read it, but Sarah managed to sit down and draw her twin sibling and headmate, Goreth. It's actually pretty close to how I see them in our inworld, too.

An introduction to our current novel:
In one of the universes that is in our head, once, long ago, the Great One gave birth to many children. And each of Their children had an Art, a passion or talent, a skill that they could do better than any other. But most of them could not learn what their Arts were until the others had explored theirs enough to invent meaning for them. The Artist of Cars, for instance, could not learn what their Art was until the Artist of Wheels and the Artist of Internal Combustion Engines had created their things. This left many of the Great One's children very vulnerable for a long time, so They created a world for Their children to live on using the bones and flesh of Their own body. And around this world, They wrapped Their hide, scales pointed inward to act as stars, to protect it and Their children. And they called this world Kepekape, meaning "My Body".
But one day, the Artist of Storytelling made a wager with the Artist of Hunting that they could not hit the morning star with their arrow. And when the Artist of Hunting tried, their arrow tore a hole in the sky and let the Outsiders in.
However, this was not like the fall of any humankind, for the Children of the Great One were not humans, and the Outsiders were not evil.
The Outsiders brought with them tales of the Universe without, and eventually the Children of the Great One combined their Arts to create the Great Exodus Ships, to explore the reaches beyond the Hole in the Sky.
And they formed the Inmara, the Great Alliance, with the Outsiders, and set forth to do just that.
And that action would, one day, lead to the writing of this book.

Armenian PM Warns Of ‘Large-Scale’ Azeri Attack On Armenia
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian on Thursday rejected Azerbaijan’s continuing demands for legislative changes in Armenia and said that Baku may be planning “large-scale” military aggression against his country. Pashinian complained that despite his readiness for compromise, the Azerbaijani leadership is pursuing a “policy of military coercion” in an effort to clinch more Armenian territory and other concessions from Yerevan. He said that it is reluctant to delimit the long border between the two states where four Armenian soldiers were killed in an Azerbaijani ceasefire violation on Tuesday. “Our analysis shows that there may be one reason for this and that reason may be, for example, the launch of military operations at some sections of the border with the prospect of turning the military escalation into a full-scale war against Armenia,” he said during a weekly cabinet meeting in Yerevan. [...] Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reiterated on Wednesday that he will not sign a peace treaty discussed by the two sides “if Armenia does not bring its legislation to a normal state.” He said that legislation contains territorial claims to Azerbaijan.
Armenian soldiers killed by Azerbaijani fire in biggest skirmish since exodus
Armenia said on Tuesday that four of its soldiers were killed by Azerbaijani fire along the two countries' heavily militarised border, the first fatal incident since they began negotiating a deal to end more than 30 years of intermittent war last year.
as i said before, azerbaijan is going to invade and conquer armenia within the next 5 years
