STRAW HATS | DUSTY GROUND | OPLA SEASON 1
This show has me in such a chokehold that I made my first AMV in years. It was a lot of work but I had an absolute blast. I love this show so much (and I hope this convinces you to watch it, please watch it-)

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned my super long sea shanty playlist (almost 16 hours!)
If your favorite sea shanty or shanty band isn’t on here, please recommend it to me!

Tagged by @mybackup-account to post my current top 5 songs/artists! Ok, here goes~
1. Hypnosis Microphone
I am. Obsessed. To put it mildly. It's gotten to the point where I barely listen to anything else. My spotify wrapped with just be an endless loop of Fling Posse. Going with a representative song by DotsuHon's Amayado Rei (voiced by Takaya Kuroda) because his wicked bass tones give me shivers every time.
2. The Dreadnoughts
Bangers all the way through. Great blend of traditional and folk music, sea shanties and punk. Lifts my mood whenever I hear them.
3. Marianas Trench
Criminally underrated in my opinion. I feel they're on par with many others in their genre but I never hear anyone discussing them, a crying shame.
4. Autoheart
Oh my, it's hard to pick just one. They have songs that make me want to punch a wall, to squirm and kick my feet in delight, to call & remind my boyfriend how much I care about him... anyway. They're a remarkable and honest look at the ups and downs of gay relationships, and more besides, set to irresistibly catchy rhythms.
5. Cavetown
They have a lot of mellow or melancholic songs with a gentle, contemplative vibe to them, and I certainly enjoy those, but I'm picking this one simply because it goes so hard.
Tagging @tortizgryazi228 @veetyuh @vantablackpearl @cupcake--knife @my-little-girlboss @fluffbreadbug @trillionsutensils @certified-boykisser @wisterius @isurviveddoomedyaoi @ao3snowbutterfly and @rrrrrr ! Only if you feel like it, of course☺

THAT OTHER BAND: Yeah, you got into us for our gritty Victorian port town vibe, but we do 80s synth now, keep up
THE DREADNOUGHTS: You know what rocks? SHANTIES. And CIDER. And whirlwind Eastern European fiddles! And how the First World War was not a very nice time! And yeah, we're going a new direction, WE'RE LEANING INTO THE TRAAAAAAAD!!
Srsly if you want a solid shot of electricity, go and check out the Dreadnoughts – and it's Bandcamp Friday, so not only do they get more of the sale price but if they get 50 preorders on their new album they'll give us another song off it early!
(I have not been paid to say this, I just really really love them and wish to have more fans to fan with.)
(UPDATE: omg the Dreadnoughts tag is giving me so much dopamine right now, I should NOT have clicked on that so close to bedtime)

“average celtic punk band records 5 cider-related songs” factoid actualy just a statistical error. average so-called celtic punk band records 0 cider-themed songs. The Dreadnoughts, who have 250 songs about cider, are an outlier adn should not have been counted

Our belly's all empty, our backsides are bare,
No wonder we've reason to curse and to swear
Honesty's all out of fashion
These are the rigs of the time,
Time, me boys,
These are the rigs of the time

Polka is such an underrated genre. Like, genuinely the steepest drop in interest I think I've ever seen. Don't believe me? Name one polka artist other than weird Al. The dreadnoughts don't count. Look up the polka hashtag on here and see how little of the actual music is represented. Like, don't get me wrong, I was mostly unaware of it too before I heard the dreadnoughts, but I don't just listen to their stuff. The older recordings are pretty fire too, recordings of polka shows that I've seen seem like the friendliest place on earth, there's a pretty cool history to the genre, and interesting stuff still being done with it to this day, despite how unpopular it is.
Look, if anyone is willing to give a genuinely great genre the chance it deserves then I'm more than happy to compile a list of gateway drugs. I can promise you won't regret it because even if you don't like it it's not going to hurt you. It's such a happy little guy. Please. Do it for me. For polka. For the fins who used it to save their town from Russian mines in the winter war. For weird Al. For the Polish scammer with a heart of gold who may have been the first -and only- man to combine polka with rap (that one didn't turn out great, I'll be honest). For the middle-aged punks who decided to make a band and play what they loved and never got anywhere but enjoyed it anyway. Do it for yourself

Out of context thought of the day
I can't think straight, because my head is too full of sea shanties.
