power ballads
yesterday someone in of all places a pokemon go discord's off-topic channel was asking for votes on what is the best power ballad of all time. i was sitting at the kitchen table with dude, debating where to go for dinner-- we'd cleaned out the garage and i said we should go out to celebrate and the notion intrigued him, but he didn't have anywhere in mind and neither did i, so he was scrolling yelp. but he paused when i asked him his opinion on power ballads, and we had a discussion about those.
he used to have a cd, maybe still does somewhere, the first Monster Ballads compilation. His car when I met him didn't have a CD player so he'd recorded it onto a tape and would play it in the tape deck and howl along. Can You Take Me High Enough. To Be With You. Etc., and we were going through all these in our mind and thinking them over. Did you know the bassist from Mr Big is from Buffalo, etc., trivia and such.
Anyway, I paused to write our answers back in the discord, and he was scrolling through music videos on his phone.
And he says, "The Jerk Hut," and i was like oh I have never heard that one, and he was like oh no it's a restaurant. Carribbean.
Ohhhh.
Here I was envisioning it as a like. Sketchier version of the Love Shack.
So we then of course had to come up with lyrics. The jerk shack is a little old place where / we can jerk each other-r-r-r

Why don't you listen to The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen on loop for like an hour and maybe you won't calm down, maybe you'll feel some strange sort of weightless emptiness and/or existential dread. Maybe you'll also get to hear some cool beats 👍.

Vader senses the Anxiety of an Anxious Person
So, I was at Hollywood Studios in Disney World on July 21st, and I did some character photos with Chewie, Darth Vader, Frozone, Edna Mode. The most hilarious interaction was with Vader.
As in the title, Vader mentions he “senses high levels of anxiety” coming from me, and my immediate first thought was “that’s because I have anxiety”
And me being me, I had an absolute blast with that. Like, thinking “you sense the anxiety of an anxious person, congrats! Would you like a gold star?!” And it obviously still amuses me.
After mentioning that, he asks if I was hiding a rebel informant. I wasn’t (in fact, my brain said “Hah! I AM the rebel informant”) and that it would be a shame if they found something that would bring me back into suspicion (lol, why give the anxious person more anxiety? something else could be happening right under your nose and you’d be none the wiser, because all your efforts go to the one with anxiety.)
Sorry not sorry. This was way too much fun.
