My Rough interpretation of the three main dragon breeds from the Aurelian Cycle Trilogy. I might mess with the designs more in sketches later as I reread the series. I feel like I especially struggled to nail down a color I was happy with for the Aurelian in the middle. For a first go at their designs without roughing out thumbnail ideas first I'm pretty happy with them. I gave up a little on coloring towards the end 😅. I need help finding a way to increase my love for the coloring process. I like to sketch and line and then I start to lose interest.

I’m rereading the Aurelian cycle rn and I’ve been in the mood to draw some more of the characters. So here’s more Annieee (this time with a flower I think represents her)

I picked the fire poppy: it grows in places that have recently been burned— which is maybe too on the nose for Annie’s backstory— and it represents rebirth, remembrance, and sacrifice, all of which I think suit her pretty well.

The past few years I've taken to reading a lot of modern fantasy series, and while occasionally one like The Locked Tomb will surface and pull in a big fandom, that is a rare exception. A majority of the time it just leaves me stirring in emotions about characters with little outlet.

okay. for the last couple of years i’ve been obsessed with the aurelian cycle books. And the last book is coming out soon so i can’t stop thinking about it and i’m just sad because the fandom is barely there. I need good fanfics urgently and more more fanarts. GAHDJWHD. i’m desperate. help

Could fans of the Aurelian Cycle come out and tell me they exist and suffer as i do? Just react to the post and you’ll make me happy and if you want to chat about it, go ahead. I’m all about hearing people rant or simply be excited about it.

Here’s how I picture the 3 dragons breeds from the Aurelian Cycle!

Dorian Sur Certa

Duck is arguably one of the most likable characters in the whole trilogy. I've always pictured him with some variation of either light brown or dirty blonde hair. Although I'm not sure it specifies. I hope I did him justice for all the duck fans out there.

And ugh, the scene in Flamefall when he asks Lee to give him and Annie a shift off at the same time because she's stopped sleeping and he goes to her dorm to help her sleep just kills me with the feels.

Also, I experimented more with the blue/ mother of pearl description for the skydish breed. Happy with the results.

Power's Character arch is my favorite in this series. And this is one (of many) of my favorite power moments.

This is also good practice for me because I hate drawing people 🙃 so trying to draw the same person over and over was interesting.

Skyfish House.

I wanted to create something that was fun and lineart heavyand that allowed for me to experiment and that felt a little like a sticker and a little like some sort of ancient dragon artwork. I loved the whole process for this. I'm working on a stormscourge one that's not turning out quite as good I want it to so I might start over. Then on to the Aurelian house. I've drawn Aurelian dragons the last so that one might take more problem solving. Can you tell the skyfish are my favorite?

Not as happy with this as I am with my skyfish but she turned out alright! Hopefully I get to fixing my stormscourge soon. Spring break officially started for me today so heres to some personal art time!
